Boy Released was such an intriguing follow up to Boy On Hold. I could not put this book down. The story of the aftermath of Cabbage Night (the night before Halloween) continues 10 years later. We see Hen still trying to cope with his brothers’ mental illness and the effects of it on his family. Wow! Again, I can’t help myself but to be lost in the world of Tyler and his continued attempt to recover from that fateful night and his demons (mental illness). Institutionalized and then released to home after ten years and the trauma and uncertainty that still haunts the family is heartbreaking yet heartwarming as the end of the story draws near. I absolutely love the ending of the story (no spoilers) but let me tell you, we should all take lessons from the family and how they respond and cope with the demons following Tyler around. Please read this book! You will find a new understanding and hope for those afflicted with mental illness!
