You can tell there was a lot of historical research that went into writing this 19th century realistic retelling of Cinderella with some added twists. Unlike Cinderella here, you have a curse that needs to be broken by midnight which holds more urgency than just someone seeing your ball gown disappear and your coach turn back into a pumpkin. Another difference that I enjoyed was the idea of multiple love interests. Though I’m typically not a fan of love triangles, I really enjoyed the way Christine Norris utilized the love triangle to help us understand the characters and how their histories affected them and their lives. This is a fun, clean-cut young adult fantasy read. Do I wish it had included more steampunk aspects? Yes, but it’s a nice read nonetheless.
