I’m a huge fan of Naomi’s. I just started this series and I’m hooked. I cannot wait to read more about Xenobia. If you like this one definitely check out her other stories.
This is a Daddy dom/Middle book and my first time reading this trope. There is ageplay in this book. I found the dynamic between Cutter and Emily intriguing. She is a cop and he is in a MC. There is lots of suspense as well as a fair amount of spice.
This is the 9th book in the Masters of the Consulate series. This is a fated mate’s book. Botosoni and Catina’s story is compelling and their attraction is instant. They both need the other. She is a seer and can help with the upcoming war. She needs to get away from her family before they can sell her. This series is fast paced and spicy.

This is the first book in the Titans of Chicago but this series is in the same world as the Titans of Manhattan series. This was a great second chance romance. Harper and Gabriel thought they would be together forever until the unthinkable happened and she was ripped from him, then she destroyed him. The dynamic between these two is explosive when they meet up again. I love the world that has been built in these series.

This book is an interesting take on shifters and mates. It is the first one that I have read where there is a second mating and I loved the idea of it all. The author has taken a well done trope and played with the concept that true love doesn’t just happen once. I really enjoyed the characters in this book. They had an obvious connection right from the start, despite the obstacles they were facing. I thought it was great watching their relationship develop and I loved getting to know them. This is a great addition to the series and I am looking forward to seeing what else is to come.

Dancing Butterfly is Book Two in the Butterflies Fly Free Series. It is a historical romance set in the 1920’s and full of action, suspense, mystery, drama, intrigue, passion, dancers, gangsters, and love. The story centers around the characters of Suki and Frank and is told from each of their POV. Suki, AKA Susan, is a dancer trying to make money to pay her rent. She is strong, fiercely independent and used to only having herself to rely on when times got tough. Frank is one of Al Capone’s right-hand men that Suki finds herself attracted to, but she is uncertain what to do with that attraction. As fate would have it, Suki and Frank are thrown together when gunfire opens in the club Suki is dancing at. When she tries to escape through the underground tunnels, she becomes injured and must rely on Frank for help. With her injured foot she is unable to dance so Frank makes her his girl and vows to protect her at all costs. The chemistry between them is undeniable and Suki finds herself uncertain where their relationship is going or if they have a future together. The author did a great job of pulling me into the story with the descriptive scenes. I felt as though I was there in the 1920’s, alongside Al Capone, the gangsters, and the dancers. I could vividly see the dresses, hear gunfire, and feel the chemistry between Suki and Frank. A great read and I look forward to Book Three.

The Missing Red Envelopes is another fun and heartwarming chapter book that will captivate young readers by Yobe Qiu with lovely illustrations by Kris Fulk. It is an Asian kids story. The Mating Chance is a fantastic second chance romance tale and the second book in the Long Claw Pride series. I really enjoyed the first book The Mating Call in this series and couldn’t wait for this book to come out. Make sure you read the first book because like this book it is full of paranormal goodness. It’s my first love in genre. The world that Brooke has created is one that makes you want to be there and experience what they do. It is so easy to imagine and get lost in. This captivating paranormal romance story is set in a small town where mountain sexy lion shifters live, and soul mates are eagerly sort after. They are wild, absolutely crazy, and most definitely a lot of fun and you can’t help but fall in love with them. With plenty of passion, action, drama, hopes, needs, wants and love and mix it up with fate and you have one explosive read that you just can’t put aside until you have devoured every inch of it. Cricket had it all then it was horribly ripped away from her. Now when a second chance with fate comes along, she doesn’t believe it is true. Boone just wants what everybody has and that is the answer to the Call. Now that it has happened, he must convince them that fate has given them a second chance. I can’t wait for what comes next.

This has been one of my favorite series to read. The concept of getting another mate after the one you were lifemated with was really interesting. Cricket is a fiercely independent single momma that was settled into her thinking she would be alone forever now, then BAM, here comes the pull. Boone is trying to avoid his cousin, Sheridan, the bikini-clad wildcat that always needs her jeeps repaired when his pull comes. He takes his leave and follows his pull. I find that amazing because they take such faith and go (yes, it’s just fiction but still). When these two meet up, the chemistry and sparks are there, he just has to get her to accept. I loved reading this story. These prides are full of personality. The elders that the characters talk to are wonderful and wise. When Cricket takes her little one out for a run, I couldn’t help but think of a certain movie. It’s a bittersweet romance that comes with a happy ending that has beautiful characters and always brings a smile and chuckle. I’ll be eagerly awaiting Afton’s turn.

This is an author that I have enjoyed reading from the first book I picked up with her. I enjoy her writing style as well as her attention to details that make her characters come to life on every page. This is a well written story about Jed and Hannah. Their story takes place during the War of 1812. He is the heir to a plantation with a family with secrets. She comes from a family that holds the key to a riddle. What happens to them you do not want to miss. They take you on an emotional journey that you don’t want to see end. They are great characters that are connectable and pull you in from the start. I enjoyed watching their growth as well as the chemistry between them. This is a fast paced, engaging, hard to put down story that I highly recommend. This is a must read for sure!

The Rise of House Valdis is my second time reading work from author Naomi Valkyrie. I started with the prequel to this story, House Valdis Origins: Xenobia. While not ‘necessary’ to read the prequel to this book, it was a quick read and I think worth it to really get to know the background of the main character, Xenobia.
I loved the way this story came together. With the descriptions, character developments and getting different points of view of the characters involved, it was so easy to feel the same feelings with them. The pages didn’t stop turning. This story seemed to have a little bit of everything! The author is incredibly imaginative and keeps you locked in until the end. I highly recommend to book lovers who love a strong female lead, where supernatural fantasy meets with sci-fi. It works!

The first thing I absolutely love about this series is that each book can be read as a stand alone or in whichever order the reader wants. As someone who would always be looking for the first book in a series, and sometimes not be able to find it, this takes a lot of that stress off the table. Basil is a quirky and fun rom com packed with the supernatural! As a curvy girl myself I absolutely loved the body positivity in this book. I will definitely be looking for more Silver Springs Pets books! I highly recommend giving this series a try!

Basil is part of a Silver Springs lineup that features different authors, this one by K. Rose. RH, why choose, spice, fantasy, supernatural, vegan, vampire, HEA (yeah, what did I just write? haha)
The story starts with Basil waking up in ICU after a horrific first date that somehow ended in a car crash and also her turning into a vampire… that’s vegan. No idea what happened to her date other than he was in the ICU as well or who turned her, how did she turn, etc. Feel like a lot of set up was missing there. Maybe it was intentional since she didn’t know, I’m just not sure I see a super science biomed girl just walking away from that question. The science part behind how she was able to sustain her diet without eating anything with a face was fun to read. She moves to Silver Springs- again, not sure about how easy it was for her to find out about a whole town of supernaturals but it’s also on the downlow from the rest of the world… in the space of a few days of her shop (vegan smoothies and tanning salon) opening, she meets 3 fated mates.
Drama ensues via the twin of one of the mates. Happily ever after is wrapped up. No cliffhangers unless you count the plot holes haha For a while there I thought the caterpillar/butterfly in her shop was going to turn into one of her fated mates (no, seriously. I really did, and it would not have seemed far fetched in the story line)
It was super easy to read, even with the plot holes and really very funny at times. Maybe another one will come along and fill in the gaps? Wasn’t set up for a part 2, but I could see it happening. I’ve read a lot of RH, fantasy mashups, supernaturals, fated mates stories, but this was definitely unique. World building, set up and backstory could have been a little stronger, the spice was NOT lacking. if there was a 2nd, I would give it a read 🙂

Family Ties Family Lies was an awesome read! It is outside of my norm and I enjoyed having something different to die into. This book centers on family, secrets that no one wants to talk about, and a persistent daughter who cannot simply let things lie. An enjoyable and engaging romantic comedy which kept me happily turning the pages. Molly Rose is completing her final grad school project; having written a play she now has to stage it. Her girlfriend Poe has found the perfect looking man for the kilt-wearing Scotsman role but unfortunately, he cannot act. The ruggedly handsome Lachlan is not sure how he’s ended up helping Molly but apparently, he has the perfect accent. Although Molly is happy with Poe they are in a polyamorous relationship, and she can’t help but feel an attraction towards Lachlan. Despite not having dated a man since high school Molly is keeping an open mind as her and Lachlan have a real connection. They all believe that once the play is over their fling will be too, but they are all keeping an open mind. I love the characters in this story, Molly, Poe and Lachlan are all likeable and relatable. The chemistry sizzled off the page and led to some steamy scenes. I loved the fact that the storyline centres on a polyamorous relationship, and I love the idea of this series chronicling a polycule’s romantic adventures.

A gripping murder mystery which had me hooked throughout. Trueman “True” North is a retired homicide detective who is very familiar with death and thinks that his next case will be just another ‘by-the-book’ investigation. He’s been asked to find out who murdered the son, Stoddard Skidmore but must contend with both the meddling daughter Kitty and Skidmore’s ruthless business competitor. True finds himself in the land of the uber-rich among people who presume he can be paid off, warned off or seduced. True is determined to find the truth as if he does not find the real killer than an innocent man will rot in prison, and the murderer will be free. The characters and the setting were brought vividly to life through the descriptive narrative. I found that True is a great main character, and I look forward to investigating further murder mysteries with him.

This is the first book in the Polyam Fam. It is a romcom which deals with relationships, family, angst and learning experiences. I really enjoyed this story and I have loved the authors previous works so I was excited to read this and I wasn’t disappointed. This story has a polyamorous relationship which our leading Lady Molly is in. I didn’t have much of a understanding of this type of a relationship however the story has helped my understanding more. This is a story of finding romance when you don’t expect it but also learning about different types of relationships and learning to accept people for who they are. This is Molly and Lachlan’s story
Molly is in a polyamorous relationship with Poe. Since being in a relationship she has never wanted to date someone else until Lachlan came along. Lachlan was introduced to Molly as she needed a Scottish man for her play. The connection and attraction between them was instant but Lachlan doesn’t date and Molly isn’t sure how she feels about dating someone other than Poe. The more time they spend together though the more they can’t fight their attraction to each other but will Lachlan understand and accept the relationship that Molly currently has? Will Lachlan be able to be in a relationship with Molly knowing she is also in a relationship with Poe? Will this just be a fling while the show is happening or will it become something more?
This book is full of twists and turns as our characters battle with their feelings and emotions while they find out what they really want and how they can get there. This is definitely a story of acceptance which I loved and I found it interesting. I can’t wait to read more in this series

A wonderfully written historical novel about the children of the Founding Fathers, who were the first American born generation. Set during the war of 1812, I found myself transported back to that era through the authors descriptive narrative and the added historical details. Following the signing of the Constitution, Washington, Franklin, and Hamilton have all died and the British have been trying to break the spirit of the new young government. America declares war to reconfirm her independence. Both Jed Pearson the heir to a large plantation and visionary women Hannah Stansbury believe that a more divine purpose awaits the Union. However closer to home Jed has a tainted family heritage surrounded by mystery, whilst Hannah’s family may hold the answers he wants. As treacherous forces on both sides battle to manipulate the outcome of the war for their own purposes, Jed and Hannah are about to learn the ultimate definition of liberty. A fascinating story with well-defined main characters in Jed and Hannah. This is an era of history that I’m not familiar with, and I thought the author did a great job of setting the scene and explaining the history whilst also providing an engaging story.

Dark Sky at Dawn (Free Men and Dreamers Book 1) by L.C. Lewis. I really enjoyed this historical fiction book. I can’t wait to read the next one. Its the story of Jed & Frannie Pearson and their life on a Maryland Plantation. Its set during the war in 1812 and all the craziness that happened. Jed is in charge of buying slaves for the plantation. Some of the slave owners treated their families horribly but Jed always treated them like family. Jed has a dear friend Hannah Stansbury actually they are in love and have been for a long time. There is a secret within Hannah’s family that comes out and makes for tense times. This book was written so well that I actually felt like I was there and the way some of those slaves were treated was horrible. It was actually hard to read about. I really enjoyed this book and the drama that ensues. I can’t wait to read the next installment.

I wasn’t sure what to think when I decided to read this book. I wasn’t sure how the characters were going to relate and if this would be a hidden love affair. This one did not disappoint. I love the fact that the main female character has a career and isn’t shown as some needy girl. That made me want to keep turning the pages and finding out more about her. I also enjoyed the fact that she is mom. That isn’t something that we typically see in romance books. The main male character is also a single dad. This story just melted my heart. I love, love and this book had so much love between them. They had a spark and took a chance. It is such a sweet romance story. It kept me turning page after page because I just fell for the characters. This is a quick read and definitely worth it. I feel that this a true classic romance story that definitely hits different. Wonderful book. I love reading about other cultures and traditions. The pictures along with the book are beautiful and make the story that much more interesting. It is so nice to hear that the children are able to get out of school to celebrate the Lunar New Year. The tradition of family members handing out red envelopes with money to the children in their family is such a cool part of many Asian cultures. It is especially sweet that the sisters are wanting to save to spend their money on someone other than themselves. The sisters work together to find their lucky envelopes that were left behind, and Lorie as the oldest sister feels it is on her to protect Weina and solve the mystery. I love the patience she shows her sister even in the face of losing all the red envelopes, she didn’t yell at her sister she calmly talks it out. I wish I could have seen them buy the jade bracelet in the end!
Fun story. Part of dialogue and mannerisms made me cringe, like when JJ says “bruh” and gets high or makes pot references. I just felt like his character would have been better without all of that. I can’t understand why it takes JJ and Jo so long to meet Theo, and it seemed like Theo was around more than the other two. I liked Basil a lot! First of all, the name Basil for a woman, love it, she is also strong and independent making a fresh start on her own and building something beautiful and also meeting her mates. I think Theo was my favorite, at first I was iffy about him because of how Lainie reacts to him but I am assuming that is due to who she thinks he is. All together a nice read, weird take on supernaturals with a snowman and a relative of the Jolly Green Giant but, fun.

What a fun third book to the Nessie series. I think Craig and Linda’s parents by the end of this book are about tired of hearing the words “Nessie” and “monsters” and they may not take a vacation near water ever again. I really liked the magic of Craig and Linda going through the maze to help Princess Sheona, starting in Canada and ending up in Scotland, where they first met Nessie. It seems there is a new hero to help Nessie out in place of Craig and Linda, Angus. It was entertaining to read from the Canadian side of the maze with Craig and Linda and then switch to the Scottish side with Angus and his mother. I like how Angus’ mom encouraged him the whole time and helped him accept the task of being a courageous knight to save Princess Sheona.

This is a book that was hard to put down. Who needs sleep anyway? I’m not always a big fan of multiple POV’s. However, when it’s done right, I actually LOVE it. This author does it right! You really get the feel for each character and get to know them well. The contrast between Xenobia and Matthew is extremely interesting and makes for a great read.

What a neat children’s story. It tells about the custom of the Red Envelopes that is part of the Lunar New Year. The illustrations are pretty. I found it was a neat way to teach a child about other cultures. I read this to my granddaughter and she really enjoyed it. She loved the story so much that I’ll be getting a paper copy for our family library.
This was one of those emotional stories that made you want to have tissue nearby. Rose heads home to help care for her mom after an injury takes her out of work for a bit. While taking care of her mom, she finds some family secrets. Though her mom and Aunt discourage her to leave it alone, Rose in an investigative journalist. She has to find the truth. This is a beautiful story, even if the truth brought pain. I found the characters to feel so real that my hurt truly hurt for them. I would get so mad, yet could understand the pain her brother felt. Rose just had her own surgery yet came down and was doing care for her mom. She had a lot on her plate. So many emotions with this story. You’ll really have to read it to understand. It’s up there at the top of my list of favorites for 2024. The writing pulls you in. You feel it.
