I’m telling you C.A King has to be one of the most uniquely talented writers i’ve ever seen. I have read some of this author’s other books ( which are crazy awesome, definitely check them out) but i was a little reluctant to read this one, but i just decided to jump in and omg i’m so glad i did idk why i waited so long. I should have known it wasn’t going to be anything less than awesome. It had just the right amount of horror for me. This is a what if story with twists and turns, that really make me think my fear of the ocean is justified lmao. But I totally look forward to reading the next books! I also look forward to reading more stories from C.A King
Soara lives up to her name, and goes Flying at Recess. She enjoys many activities with her two best friends, but flying, that she does with the butterflies. She goes high in the sky and into far away fields. She is having so much fun she looses track of time, and has to rush to make it back before recess ends. Like many of this author’s books, it is filled with colorful illustrations. The main character has a wonderful imagination and the sky is her limit. My son (8) always enjoys these books, but often says they “don’t make sense” so perhaps geared toward younger audience with endless imaginations.

This story about Soara, Zanie, and Lulu has some very vibrant illustrations throughout. This is my favorite part of this book.
Soara is a bit unique. She can fly into the sky when she drinks flower nectar. It’s cool and all but her friends Zanie and Lulu really miss playing with her at recess. The bell rings and Soara is nowhere to be seen. Can she make it back to her seat before the teacher realizes she’s gone?
This wasn’t my favorite read by this author, who is a favorite of mine. It was a fun book but just seemed to lack the educational component that I’ve come to love with this author.

Such a great book about a 12 year old that just wants to play music and her brother takes her on a trip under false pretenses. They end up in a small town that just built a new dam. The author keeps you enthralled with all kinds of feelings and twist and turn. She did such a great job at telling the story through a 12 year olds perspective.

Another great addition to your collection of Wickstrom books! The illustrations in this book are so vibrant and fantastic that I couldn’t stop looking at them. The story of Soara and her friends was great and as always, Wickstrom weaves in life lessons. Definitely pick this one up to add to your home library!

Moonlight Drive is a musical romance. Dani’s childhood friend, Nick, has made it as a rock star. She takes a chance to join his tour as a groupie, hoping to reconnect and rekindle the love they have for each other. But they have both changed and it’s not the reunion Dani dreamt of.
This is an emotional book that moves between different times in Dani and Nick’s lives. We see their difficult childhoods and the lifeline their friendship provided. We see them at various stages in their adulthood as they each run towards and away from the other.
I like that Dani has her own musical skills and dreams that she pursues separately from her pursuit of Nick. Jim, the drummer in Nick’s band, is a great friend and mentor to Dani and a solid, grounding presence throughout the story.
This book gets four stars from me! I’d recommend it to anyone who has dreamt of having a relationship with a rockstar and fans of slow burn romances that are stretched out over a long time frame.

This is a fantastic, action-packed, suspenseful thriller that will keep you turning pages long past your bed time. Oram makes her characters relatable and her plot so realistic you’ll think you’re there. We are pulled right into the complex world of Irena and her ex-husband, Jack, and new boyfriend, Buzz, and their group of friends. The twists and turns throughout this novel are so quick that you’ll get whiplash so be careful! If you are in the mood for a suspenseful thriller then this is the book for you! An easy to read book for children. Dinopotamus goes to school with the children. He cannot do everything the children do, but they include him nonetheless. Dinopotamus enjoys his day at school and decides he will go back the next day. A cute book.

Under Jackson Bridge by Susan Specht Oram. This psychological thriller is so good. I’ve found my new thriller author that I will now pick up without second glance! This is the story of Irena who is a single mom of a teenager, Kelly, who has a dead beat dad. Irena has worked so hard and built herself a business working on boat engines and has become pretty successful. When Irena, Kelly, Irena’s boyfriend Buzz and her ex, Jack end up going for a boat ride together Irena has a bad feeling about it. They are on a strict time line because Kelly has a dance class and when Irena and Jack get into an argument because Jack won’t wear his life jacket they are accidentally thrown overboard. Irena of course had her life jacket on and gets back on board but Jack is no where to be found. When they begin the search for Jack immediately they don’t find any sign of him. Even the next day all they find are questions. While Irena is determined to find her ex for Kelly’s sake she is also afraid from all the stuff she is finding out. This thriller will keep you guessing til the very end. Such a great read!

3 – 3.5 stars An age gap, small town romance set in the beautiful setting of Montana is what Catch A Cowboy is all about. It is a slow burn romance tale that is clean in its telling. Being on his own for many years with a broken heart has turned this cowboy into a grumpy man. Whilst the kindergarten teacher may have turned his eye it was their age difference that stilled his hand. She was sunshine and roses and he was all thorns and bristles. But they both have a past that affects them. Rachelle did a good job of defining them and their lives, but they didn’t have much integration as a couple which I would have liked to see. The characters in the book felt like they were more apart instead of sharing their lives. We did get to revisit with characters from the first book as Catch A Cowboy is the second book in the Match Made in Montana series.

3.5 stars There is suspense, action, danger, tension angst, chemistry and intrigue something for everyone. Vague Directions is an interesting urban fantasy set in the modern world. Starts out in the setting of a Renfest, a medieval SCA but there is a twist. It was fun to read about as I have often wondered about going to one of these events. Heather was swept away into medieval times and one dashing and charming stranger Sir Roland. Things take on a deadly hue when Heather realises there is more to the darkness, more lurking in the shadows. But who can she trust. Who is friend or foe? This paranormal fantasy tale is fun and intriguing with unusual shifters, attempted kidnappings, prophetic owls, romance and more.

Flying at Recess is a magical fantasy children’s picture book where our main character Soara can fly. Lucky girl. Imagine having the ability to fly. I think everyone has thought about flying anywhere you want to go. This whimsical tale will take the young children on an adventure soaring through the sky. All they have to do is close their eyes too to see it to. I love the beautiful illustrations by the talented Ada Konewki. They capture the magic of Soara’s adventure and her enthusiasm to fly is enticing but the pictures invite children to use their imagination. There is always something to learn in Lois’s stories and this one is no different.

When people from high school remain friends into adulthood, there is bound to be tension. When their long-time high school friend Craig decides to take everyone out on his boat to celebrate no one know the events that will follow will change the lives of so many people. The boat hits a rogue wave and Jack goes overboard. All would be fine, except for the fact he refused to wear his life jacket and is now missing, but when you look closely not everything is as it seems. A great read with lots of twists and turns. What would you do if you could escape it all?

This story had me cracking up from the very first page. Libby is so relatable. She’s curvy and she talks a lot when she gets flustered and it’s hilarious seeing how Zach reacts to it all. Their chemistry is immediate and something Zach learns quickly that he can not walk away from. But will Libby stick around in this small town long enough to realize it as well? Was a quick and entertaining read. I cant wait to read more from this series.

This is the first book in the Beyond the Bridge Series. This was a gripping psychological thriller. I captivated by this story and I couldn’t put it down. It is full of suspense, twists and turns, secrets that needs to be revealed and a plot I never saw coming. I can’t wait to see what else this series will bring.
Irena Fishbone is a strong independant woman. Have splitting with her ex husband she has moved on raising their daughter on her own and fixed boats as well as being a rescuer. She has even found love again with Buzz. Things aren’t all sunshine though as her ex husband hasn’t paid her child support for years preferring to spend money on trainers. This story starts when they all go on a boat trip to celebrate their friends promotion. As the waves get rougher Irena and her ex husband Jack fall overboard. Irena makes it back to the boat but Jack is nowhere to be seen. What has happened to Jack? Did he drown or survive? With no body Irena is left wondering what has happened to Jack? Will he ever be found? And if he is what shocking secrets will be uncovered?

I must say this was a bit of a hard read for me because of the PTSD and it’s not a bad thing it’s because I get it and I feel sorry for involved because they’re all “ victims” to someone’s else’s abuse , does that make sense 🤷♀️
Gavin has a loving wife and she’s determined to love and support her husband through this hard and difficult time and it’s not easy ….
Gavin ‘s dad diesand he’s got to back to Boston to sort and settle the estate but his short fuse is going to get him into serious trouble especially with his newfound knowledge of his family history with the mob …..
Katie’s coping mechanism is set and she’s really good at it to and I’m so grateful for the person she is because it takes a strong person to carry another through their darkness and sometimes tough decisions need to be made for everyone‘a safety and well being …..
This is just a reminder that the past will haunt you as will trauma if not dealt with , one can’t just sweep it under the carpet and hope it goes away cause it will jump up and bite you in the rear end !
A hard but beautiful read for me and again keep a supply of Kleenex and emotional snacks 😉on hand .

This book surprised me, because I was expecting a happily ever after with this book and it actually was one, just not the one I expected.

Scoob and RC are a brother and sister duo who have been through a lot, but they both get their therapy through music, RC with his guitar and Scoob with her trumpet. She is so good that at the tender age of twelve, she has an audition for a local band who plays in one of her favourite restaurants, it is somewhere she knows well and is more than excited to play there, but just as she finds out that her audition was successful, her brother has some news for her as well, unfortunately for Scoob, it completely derails her dream.
It turns out that RC has a gig, but it’s not in their California home, not that they have much of a home on the streets homeless, but at least they are together, but this road trip to a festival takes her further away from her gig and from the opportunity it would give her to play in front of a major producer, so Scoob hatches a plan. Once they are on the road and RC tells her she has no choice but to go, however, Scoob is not in the mood to hear, so as soon as she can, she calls to find out when she needs to be home so that she can play in front of this extra special guest.
Unfortunately, this road trip becomes a bit dicey as RC decides to borrow some items along the way, Scoob is appalled, but when she sees their next stop in a tiny town called Rexburg and this is where things get really interesting. As they become embroiled in the drama around a new dam and how safe it is, as well as keeping up their cover about why they are there, Scoob and RC drift further apart as she feels like he is hiding something and when it all becomes too much and she decides to go it alone, disaster strikes and the controversial dam fails, causing a huge wave to smash towards Scoob, will she be able to survive the watery onslaught and see what the future brings, or will she end up in a watery grave? This is an emotional tale of a sibling roadtrip, with a rollercoaster of emotions throughout as truth, lies and secrets create a web of entanglement which you will untangle along with Scoob in this book you will not want to put down.

Gavin and Devin are brothers , identical twins to be exact but that’s where the similarity stops Devon is cruel , vindictive , unkind and abusive , he’s definitely inherited dads genes that’s for sure , while there’s clearly something wrong with Devon I can’t help but feel resentful towards him because to a degree he has a choice doesn’t he 🤷♀️
Gavin is the total opposite and despite how Devon treats him he often protects him which to me speaks volumes of his character
Mom also got my back up because she could remove her and her boys from their poisonous environment but chooses to stay and don’t get me wrong I have alot of sympathy for women in similar situations because their believe they deserve no better but this woman isn’t one of those
To a degree Gavin looses his identity and Devon turn to drugs and mob involvement which in turn puts everyone in danger and Gavin needs to make a decision to save himself and it’s not the easiest position to be in self preservation or family and this is just a nasty family cycle if one looks into their family history …
A heartbreaking , frightful and brilliant read ! I felt like climbing into to the book on more than one occasion to shake that momma or to just save Gavin …be prepared for this , keep tissues on hand and an ample supply of emotional support snacks 😉

Not my favorite Lois Wickstrom book, but definitely still worth reading. The story follows Soara, a young girl who has the extraordinary ability to fly at recess.
The story is beautifully illustrated by Ada Konewki, whose vibrant and whimsical artwork brings the characters and their fantastical world to life. The illustrations are not only visually stunning but also expertly convey the emotions and actions of the characters.
The story itself is charming and easy to follow, with a narrative that is both engaging and accessible to early readers. The themes of friendship, exploration, and overcoming fears are woven throughout the story in a way that is both subtle and impactful.

Summer of Mud by Rebecca Bischoff was pretty amazing. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. This story about a young girl and her brother’s journey from homelessness and barely surviving to finding family, friends, and home was written so well. The author did an amazing job capturing the thoughts and feelings of a twelve year old who had to grow up pretty fast. I smiled, I cried and I felt the emotions written on each page. So many aspects of life were captured in this novel. From grief and betrayal to community and hope. This is definitely in my top 3 books I’ve read so far this year. If you are on the fence, please do yourself a favor and read this masterpiece (yes it’s for 10 and up but I as a 30+ year old woman loved it).

I am at the point with this super talented author that just seeing the name C.A. King means I need to read the book. She always creates such intriguing characters and interesting storylines and let me tell you this book is no exception! I loved Ducky and I really think her story is a truly great start to what I just know will be a fantastic series. If you love the paranormal genre then you are going to love this fun read.

This is the first book I have read by this author and so glad I took a chance, such a cute story. The writing style makes this story easy to read as well as fun to read. Looking forward to the next story in this Love Burns series.
I could feel Libby’s pain and confusion and even her frustration! Thankfully the “elusive toaster fire” brought the town fire department to her rescue. Zach being the main hero of the day and the story! These characters are real, down to earth and so sweet. The story is totally believable right down to that darn toaster! Glad there will be more for Libby and Zach and their friends!

This is the first book of the series. It was great! This story is in the future. People are going crazy over fish because all other meat is banned. When a couple guys are out fishing and discover a new fish, will it be their downfall? I can’t wait to read the next.

Shayna is struggling with life, leaving her abusive ex was only the first hurdle but moving to a small town well that is another kind of strength she will need to overcome the gossip and the stories. So, when her best friend’s BFF comes back into to town as helps her can she hold her feelings for him back as she struggles with life or does she deserve happiness and help.
Burke has decided to come back home, coming back is always hard but when he sees Shayna his perspective changes somewhat. He is fascinated with her and wants to help and be there for her through the tough times ahead, but the strength of this woman is more appealing to him, and he wants to see where this chemistry between them will go but there’s one problem, Shayna herself he must convince her that he is serious and wants to see where this leads.
I love this story, the way the story weaves through the relationship with these two characters is beautiful to read. I love a book where the main male character although a Alpha male has a vulnerable side and shows this vulnerability is lovely to read. Shayna character has been through so much but her willing to restart and in the end take a chance with Burke was brilliant.
The chemistry was off the chart and although this book was a slow burn this just added to the overall story experience. The secondary characters also added to the movement of the story which had me racing through to the end to see what happened in the end. Although this is the second book in the series you can read this as a standalone story.
I can’t wait for the next book in this series.

I absolutely ate this story up. Once I picked it up I couldn’t put it down. This story was well written and put me through all the feels. It follows a young girl, Scoob, and her brother RC who lost their parents and are homeless in California. Scoob gets a gig with a jazz band playing trumpet but just before she’s due to play her first night, her brother whisks her away to Montana. The entire way, RC is acting really weird and obviously keeping things from her. They end up in Idaho and he drags his feet moving on until finally he comes clean and tells Scoob the truth about why they really ran off. Would absolutely recommend this to anyone. Despite it being geared toward a younger audience I, at 33, loved all of it.
