Auctioned Surrender (Sinful Duets Book 2) by Via Mari – Review by Katie Matthews

Auctioned Surrender (Sinful Duets #2)Auctioned Surrender by Via Mari
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This duet contains two absolutely amazing reads. The author’s writing is so captivating you can’t help but carry on reading long after you really want to stop. The duet contains Auctioned and Relentless.

Auctioned

It’s been a long time since I struggled to review a book, I sat here for ages trying to think of the words to do this story justice and I really cannot find them. Auctioned is hands down my favourite read of 2021! I already knew I would love it because I love this author but I was completely hooked from beginning to end – I almost wish I hadn’t read it because I would love to go back and read it again for the very first time. I 100% adored and loved Damian – he was everything I wanted from his character and more. The chemistry between him and Bryanna was off the charts! I loved reading about them and wanted more after the story had ended! There was so much to this story that I was so invested in it and the characters. A truly beautiful read.
I cannot recommend this book and the series enough – they are all amazing reads and I just completely adore this author and her amazing writing!

Relentless

This was a phenomenal read! I adore this author and think I’ve given 5 stars to all of her books but this one was just amazing. I was hooked from beginning to end and I actually cannot wait to re-read it again and that is something I rarely do! I just loved Dereck and Layla, their story was just so exciting to read so many twists and turns I literally couldn’t put it down, I needed to find out what was going to happen next on the turn of almost every page. They had such a great chemistry too, that definitely made for good reading! I can’t wait to read more from this author again! I love her book so much!

Festive Fates: 11 Spirited Holiday TalesFestive Fates: 11 Spirited Holiday Tales by Natalie Palma
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I love a good holiday story! This anthology has eleven of them! Even if you’re not big on holiday stories, this compilation has something for every reader. The characters are all well-written, and their journeys are interesting. This cozy, entertaining book will keep your hands glued to each cover (or to whichever electronic device) and will also leave you wanting more from each of these authors. I could not try to pick a favorite, and I’m glad I did not have to choose just one story to read. There is no better way to get into the holiday spirit than with this book. I recommend this book to everyone, not just those who may be more jolly this time of year. There really is something for everyone in this anthology! It really “hits the spot.”

Dangerous Rhythm (The Echo Series, #4)Dangerous Rhythm by C.R. Alam
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Yes!! I loved this story so, so much! I loved the characters, the plot, everything really! Curtis was exactly as I wanted to be, however with what he witnessed we begin to see a little bit of vulnerability creep in. How amazing was Lina! She is my favourite character! She’s fierce, independent and just an all-round amazing woman!! The connection that these two had was great and I loved the chemistry between the two of them.
With a few twists and turns in the story along with amazing characters this story kept me engaged from beginning to end and I would 100% recommend it!

A Journey for Dorothy (The Reluctant Wagon Train Bride #8)A Journey for Dorothy by P. Creeden
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really loved this read. I was completely swept up in the authors wonderful writing form the very beginning. I love historical romance story – they are absolutely my favourite to read – and this was a great one. I loved the setting for the story, the authors fantastic descriptive language meant I could easily imagine what was going on. The characters of Dorothy and Elias we both so lovely to read about, they were likeable and relatable. A marriage of convenience started their journey together but what follows was so much more.
I would definitely recommend A Journey for Dorothy. It was a great read!

Another book full of suspense, mystery, and action that definitely keeps you on the edge of your seats edge. Will Jorja fill the artifact and solve the murders?

Unexpected by Laylah Abrams – Review by Jayme Raffauf

UnexpectedUnexpected by Laylah Abrams
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Nick – the art student – and Claire – the former model, socialite, and business woman – make quite the unexpected pair. The question is, can their instant connection withstand both of their insecurities? This book was a fast-paced, lovable story of two mismatched people that find themselves in an interesting situation. I really enjoyed the book and was rooting for these two to take the leap and commit to what could be. Unexpected, was just that, two people crossing paths in unexpected ways and having an unexpected connection. Read this book to see how it ends!

Auctioned Surrender (Sinful Duets Book 2) by Via Mari – Review by Cindy Mayberry

Auctioned Surrender (Sinful Duets #2)Auctioned Surrender by Via Mari
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

*****

Book 1
This is Bryanna and Damian’s story. While Bryanna is strong and independent she finds herself in trouble. She will try to save herself while protecting her niece, nephew and mother. But we all know things can not be right when a young girl is kidnapped. Damian is a bodyguard who is assigned to find Bryanna and get her back. So if I tell you anymore, it will not let you read what I just read.
This author has done it again. You are about to read this extremely intense romance. It will be one you won’t soon forget. I love the characters and their strength. This fast paced romance leaves nothing out. You will have suspense, romance, and a crime ring that needs to be stopped. Be prepared to have your emotions played with. I cried, got mad and cheered for the hero’s in this story. Please start on book 1. Get to know the rest of the bodyguards. This is a MUST READ SERIES. Well Done!
Book 2
Get ready to read this unbelievable romance. Full length and for those over 18 years of age due to violence and adult content. I recommend you read the other books in this series, to get to know the characters. As well as the strong women.
Layla Contreras has seen enough, her goal is to find her sister and friend who have been kidnapped. She will stop at nothing and go through anybody to find and rescue her sister. But she wants to help out all the girls kidnapped and sold to the highest bidder. Not even Derek and the security team can stop her. She has secrets and the security team could spill them, who can she trust? Will Derek stop her and convince her he is trying to help? Get her to accept his help, and put a stop to the traffickers?
Another series well. This series has many twists and turns. But the romance is swoon worthy. The characters are hot, hot, hot. But the women are strong willed and independent. I loved this story as well as the storyline. I turned page after page and could not put the book down. I will be looking for the 5th book in this series. No Spoilers in this review, although??? Well Done Via Mari! Well Done!

Knight In Peril (A Jorja Knight Private Investigator Mystery #6)Knight In Peril by Alice Bienia
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book is the sixth book in the series but can be read as a standalone. It is just as good as the other books and is exactly what I have come to expect from this series and this author. I reconnected with the main character straight away and I loved how the book seemed to throw you straight back into it.
The story was full of suspense and took the readers on a thrilling chase around a city most would be unfamiliar with. At times it had me on the edge of my seat as to how things would work out. I was fully engaged with it from the moment I started reading. This is a great story and I am looking forward to whatever comes next.

Whispered Surrender (Sinful Duets Book 1) by Via Mari – Review by Katie Turner

Whispered Surrender (Sinful Duets #1)Whispered Surrender by Via Mari
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Whispered Surrender by author Via Mari is the first book of Sinful Duets, which is a combination of Wayward and Undercover. Two books in one? Yes please!

Wayward captures the story of Jay, the lead of a billionaire’s advanced security team, and Sasha, a ballet dancer who finds herself in some dark predicaments that Jay tries his best to protect her from. Although Jay is instantly attracted to her beauty and feels a deep connection to her, Sasha has incredibly low self-esteem and struggles with believing anyone could really truly care about her the way she wants to be. Jay’s dominating personality makes it hard for her to decipher his true feelings but I think as a reader, you know he is really is falling for her. She keeps trying to push him away as there are more secrets hiding in the dark.

While I did not feel much relatability to either character here in the beginning, I still appreciated the story and kept the pages turning. Eventually I did enjoy these characters more as the story continued to unfold. I think the jumping back and forth between their points of view and experiencing the scenarios from both of their view really helped me to understand the characters more. It really added extra depth to the story. And of course, I loved the steamy bits!

Undercover follows Matt, an undercover bodyguard and Marenah, Sasha’s Russian twin sister. She is caught by the Chicago mafia, who are notorious for brutally torturing women who cross them. Matt and Marenah meet under these harsh circumstances and from that moment, they are both immediately infatuated with one another. Matt makes it his mission to keep Marenah safe but Marenah is keeping dangerous secrets that make his efforts more difficult.

The chemistry between these two characters is delicious and caused me to devour every page without pause. I really admired Marenah’s resilience. She didn’t come off as a scared little mouse who needed protecting. She seldom allowed anyone to be close to her, but I loved how Matt was able to help her break down some of the walls she had built up to protect herself, and allowed herself to experience not only being with a man, but being appreciated and treated well by one.

If you enjoy a good mafia war story that leans heavy on the romance aspect, I highly recommend! Loved these books!

Auctioned Surrender (Sinful Duets #2)Auctioned Surrender by Via Mari
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is book 2 in the Sinful Duet series. This book contains 2 stories Auctioned and Relentless.

Auctioned
I enjoyed this book. It is the 3rd book in the Billionaire Bodyguards series. Even though the characters are linked in previous books  but they are so well written that they can be read as a standalone. The characters are well evolved that you feel like you are living in their lives. This story contains everything i love danger, steamy romance and an attraction that should not be.

Bryanna has been caught in a trafficking ring. The captors have someone on her that means she can’t leave them. Even when she is rescued by Damian.

Damian  has been sent to rescue her my his employer Jenny. He knows it’s going to be a challenge but what he doesn’t know and realise is that the attraction between him and his assignment would be so strong.
Can Damian save Bryanna from the captors? Will Bryanna trust him enough to allow herself to be rescued? Can the attraction between them become something more or is this just got to be strictly business?

Relentless
This is the fourth book in the Billionaire Bodyguards series and these stories keep getting better and better. It is full of romance and suspense, as well as danger.

Dereck is a member of the elite security team. When he is sent to question a women with regards to the person they are looking to rescue, he didn’t expect the sparks to fly.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is book 2 in The Blood Prince. First, you will want to read book 2 if you haven’t. It is best read in order. The author sets things up in book 1. This book is terrific. The author continues the saga with adventure, drama, so many twists and turns. I found this story so intriguing because of it. It is billed as a YA/Fantasy but anyone would love it. It’s one of those books that you can’t set down once you start. It’s really got a bit of everything for you. The author is still in HS and shows such great talent as writing this. I can’t wait for book 3 to see what’s coming next. I’ve been on the edge-of-my-seat-so-far and I’m sure I’ll be again for the next one. Again, you should check this series out.

What a darling romance. I loved watching the relationship develop between Claire and Finn, especially when it began after he knocked her down while riding his bike. This was a sweet story that had such beautiful descriptions of Ireland. The author certainly added beautiful touches to the story. I loved how the earrings added a magical touch of bakery smells to Claire’s senses as she went through her days. It added a delightful and delicious touch to the tale. Such fun characters and an entertaining story make for a tale that you just can’t pass up.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book is as amazing as Whispered Surrender was. Both women are strong in their own ways and try to protect those they love. The men assigned to protect them have their hands full. I enjoyed these stories because they are full of action, romance (steamy at times), have mafia involvement, and are able to keep me engaged the whole way through. You just can’t put the book down. I found the characters quite intriguing. They fit so well into the story. I love this security firm. Such strong men on the outside, yet teddy bears on the inside. They would do anything for the woman they love. These are fantastic stories if you like dark romance, mafia, strong women. I highly recommend this book.

Knight In Peril (A Jorja Knight Private Investigator Mystery #6)Knight In Peril by Alice Bienia
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Knight in Peril by Alice Bienia is the 6th book in the Jorja Knight Private Investigator Mystery. This book is part of a series, but can definitely be read as a standalone, even though I doubt you will want to! I am going to go back and read the previous books in the series just to get the full idea of who Jorja Knight is and her back story. Jorja Knight is a Private Investigator from Canada who is supposed to meet her friend Gabriella Rizzo in Istanbul, Turkey for a little bit of R&R, and soon finds out that she is going to have to use her investigative skills to solve a mystery involving her friend. When Jorja arrives to Istanbul, she finds it odd that her friend hasn’t showed up to meet her at the airport as planned, but then thinks that maybe messages were crossed and goes to their hotel to check in. When Jorja arrives, she quickly finds that Gabs things are in the room, but Gabs is not! Jorja starts to worry especially when Gabs doesn’t show up the next day, Jorja gets the feeling that something is very wrong, and decides to report her missing to the police who do not take Jorja’s concerns seriously. Jorja knows that she has no jurisdiction in Istanbul to look for Gab, but she knows that something is very wrong, and she can’t just sit by and hope for the best. That is when Jorja decides to take things into her own hands and starts investigating what possibly could have happened to Gabs. Will Jorja be successful in solving the mystery about what has happened to her friend, will she find herself in a bigger situation? The only way to find out is to pick up a copy of the book and read it yourself! I don’t think you will be disappointed at all!

Auctioned Surrender (Sinful Duets Book 2) by Via Mari. This author has become one of my favorites and I love all her books. This one was no different. This can be read as a standalone but I highly recommend reading them in order. This is the story of Bryanna who is a young girl in trouble. Damian has been hired to find her and protect her. Bryanna may be young but she will fight for her family with everything she has. She and Damian were not expecting to have feelings for one another but main the sparks flew. In Relentless, its the story of Dereck & Layla. Layla is looking for her sister and wont’ stop until she finds her. The only problem is the human traffickers are more relentless and Dereck is determined to protect her. There are sparks between Dereck and Layla as well and it will have you flipping those pages. This is such a great duet and I can’t wait for the next one.

Auctioned Surrender (Sinful Duets #2)Auctioned Surrender by Via Mari
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Thank you Via Mari for continuing to write such great stories!

The first part of this duet is about Damian and Bryanna who are sexy, sweet, determined, and delicious!

This story continues from books 1 and 2 and it is helpful to read in order. I liked how these characters are the main focus with a little help from their friends. Bryanna is tough and protective and soon learns that Damien is the same way, maybe even more so.

Mari’s writings continue to be an escape from the real world although human trafficking is becoming all too familiar in the real world, this story has a happier ending than real life, making it a great read.

The next part is Relentless, meaning never giving up. Layla is relentless in looking for her sister. Dereck is relentless in helping and protecting Layla. Even the bad guys are relentless in their human trafficking pursuits.

I enjoyed the banter between Layla and Dereck through-out the entire book. And I really like how Layla is such a tough woman. She can protect herself, find her sister and still love the man. Mari has created believable characters and a real-life world that is worth reading about.

While Relentless is not my favorite of Mari’s stories, it is still 4-star worthy. This story can be read as a stand alone since the previous characters are only slightly mentioned. But the Billionaire Bodyguard series is worth the read.

I was so into this book that it was hard for me to out down. The story flooded so will and went really well together that I didn’t feel like I was missing something or skipping anything. My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the fourth book in the series and you don’t have to read the other books before this one to understand what is going on. This is the first one that I have read in this series and it was such a cute quick read for me that I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series. I really like the idea of Cupid’s helpers and the whole romanticized idea that Cupid brings. This story has amazing characters that are quick witted, have a bit of a temper, and have growth for what is needed in this book. This book is realistic in the way that bot everything happens properly the first time and it might take a couple tries to get it right. I didn’t how much I would like that when it isn’t instant. This book was a really quick read for me as I couldn’t put it down because I needed to know what happened next. I highly suggest thus book if you are looking to just sink into a book and escape for a few hours. You won’t be disappointed in this choice.

Murder at the Wedding (Modern Midwife Mysteries #1)Murder at the Wedding by Christine Knapp
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

What’s not to love about being part of bringing new life into the world !? Being there when there’s a struggle to conceive and then it happens!? Holding a parent while they mourn a loss ( you have to have a big heart for that ) being there when a prognosis is made ….

Maeve and husband Will live in Langford , a small seaside town where Will is a caterer and Maeve is a midwife , life seems idyllic , that is until the chief of obstetrics drops dead at his daughters wedding and Will did the carrying ! Oh my goodness this is a disaster 🙈

Maeve is determined to prove her husbands innocence . Look I like Maeve she’s a real gem and she’s got so many facets to her character and can be witty , sarcastic , funny , serious , empathetic and sympathetic , she’s a good wife , sister , friend , midwife and sister 🌸

Just having finished the series “ Call the Midwife” I really enjoy the midwife side of this book but I also enjoy that issues dealt with were done so in a sympathetic and honest way , real and honest .

This is a series that has potential to be a good series for television 😉🥰

To Catch An Elf by Debra Parmley – Review by Brandy Rymer

To Catch An Elf: Pennsylvania Fighter PilotTo Catch An Elf: Pennsylvania Fighter Pilot by Debra Parmley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book was nothing like what I had expected from my first impressions upon seeing the cover. I was expecting a sweet romance between the two characters featured and wasn’t exactly sure how a creepy-looking elf that looked a little like our main character, Marcie, would play into their romance, but this book offered me this and so much more!!! I was so excited when I started reading and realized it was going to take a dark twist that I was not expecting at all! This book had everything I could want and more, a budding Christmas romance, a beautiful wedding (not for our main characters), an overbearing privileged homeowner who had an adorable dog needing love and care, a sweet innocent house and dog sitter for December, and a super creepy elf that feels like it’s watching Marcie’s every move. Add to the mix a cute new neighbor, Ted, with a friendly dog of his own and we’ve got a great mix of characters to make a very interesting story. Oh, but don’t forget the homeowner’s weird boyfriend who brings Marcie into the mix, by recommending her to be the house sitter, who also is the person who gifted the elf to his girlfriend, the homeowner. The elf was to be Marcie’s biggest priority during her house sitting, even more, important than taking care of the sweet dog, with a list of daily tasks she had to take photos of, that were listed out down to the finite detail, including a bubble bath with the creepy elf…you’ll want to pick up this book to see how this all turns out because something was not right about this house sitting job. This book was awesome, it’s got romance, intrigue, drama, violence, and a super creepy elf doll who seems to watch your every move.

What an emotional rollercoaster. I can’t believe that Claire and Nick finally are able to express their feelings and then, ugh!!! It was not nice to do that to a person.

Claire is many things, daughter, friend, former model, daughter of a tech magnate, business woman and lost. Claire wants to do so much with her position at her father’s company but he consistently tells her that she doesn’t have to and that no one expects that of her. But Claire is smart, driven, ambitious and wants so much more than what is expected of her.

Nick is a struggling art student. He works, he attends his classes, he paints, he is also stuck. What he loves to paint, landscapes, won’t bring him fame and fortune, but that is what he really wants out of his art career. Nick wants to be known and respected in the art world. He can’t really seem to impress the professors and critics at school and is close to quitting it all.

One night while working as a waiter, Nick comes face to face with Claire and her group of friends. The friends are dismissive and rude to him. Nick is just the waiter, after all. After being curt to Claire, Nick finds himself in a hotel room with her. After their one night together, Nick gives Claire his phone number. He never expects her to use it. She never plans on using it. Until she does.

Clair and Nick met up occasionally for the next year, slowly building a friendship and a relationship out of their series of hookups. When Nick takes Claire camping for the weekend, they realize that they love each other. Nick feels that he isn’t good enough for Claire because he is just a poor art student. Claire doesn’t feel that way but she knows love never lasts anyways, so she lets him walk away. Can that be all? Will they each move on? Will they find what they are looking for separately before finding it together? The ride will end with you safe back at the station but hold on getting there!
