Creatures of the Night has such a strong opening that I wanted to love the book. It starts with portals opening all around the world and creatures coming out and killing the majority of the human population. Due to this females became mages and males became knights. I wished that C.A. King would have fully fleshed out this new world. Unfortunately, for me, it felt like it was watered down and not enough detail was given. The ending feels rushed and very confusing with unfinished loose ends.

I absolutely love a grumpy/sunshine story where the male is the sunshine, and Evan is all sunshine. Getting to see his and CeCe’s background break my heart. Watching Evan and CeCe go from friends to the beginnings of a relationship, having to battle with sharing your pains with hear other and trusting them to run run away screaming. Small town, grumpy/sunshine, secret crushes, workplace romance, and wonderful food everywhere. What’s not to enjoy 😊

Exposed is the third book in The Descendants series by Lea Cherry. I would highly recommend reading the other books in the series first as it does not work as a standalone. Amy is struggling with the recent events that have uprooted her life. Her mother, who she thought was dead is back but she is unable to wake her. She is also struggling to come to terms with who she is and that everything she thought before was untrue. This books has a great cast of characters and the story keeps you hooked. This is a good paranormal fantasy series, this is the first series I have read by this author and I am looking forward to reading her other works.

This is an amazing story book for beginner readers of pre-teen/teen ages. The fantasy in this book is sure to suck in even the most inexperienced readers. This story has every aspect you would want in a starter chapter book: adventure, magic, growth, and relatability. Not only does it cover the basics of fantasy, it has the relatability factor to that specific age group. It deals with self-righteousness, selfishness, and the “I’m better than you are” attitude. Luckily the story creates an adventure to deter these traits. A book like this is exactly what I want my children to gravitate to as they begin exploring new, uncharted worlds through reading.

I love the first book – Echoing hearts and I was truly hoping to get to know each of the characters in the first book even better. This next one was Brandon’s story. Brandon was such a wonderful character. However his wonderfulness is underscored by Callie. Callie is the perfect main character, she is strong and resilient yet despite her past she is still able to trust in people and open up. She had a past that was difficult and the author did not shy away from tackling it. Because just as in real life, sometimes we have difficult pasts that make us who we are. This difficult subject matter is what made this book even more special. It was handled in just the right way. I truly love the romance that was in this but it was also partnered with a lot of suspense. It was well written and I definitely recommend it!

This isn’t my usual book of choice. But I’ve been expanding my types of reading when it comes to middle grade and YA books so that I am able to make great recommendations to my students. This book definitely is one that I will be recommending to my older students that enjoy fantasy novels. This is one that is fast paced and definitely sucks you in at the beginning and doesn’t let you go until the very end. I will say that this is a book that needs your full attention when you are reading or else there will be moments later on in the book where you will feel confused. I am definitely looking forward to reading the rest of the series!

So much occurs in Manipulator’s War that I am afraid to give anything away. To start off, nonbinary Ruarnon is trying to prove that they are worthy to be king. While a supposed peaceful visit with the neighboring king threatens Ruarnon’s life, a group of four students on a field trip stumble upon a portal into a different realm. Manipulator’s War is a current, traveling-between-realms science fiction novel. Although many events occur, each event winds up being a twist of what is expected. This novel will keep you guessing. Manipulator’s War is full of characters with relatable feelings. You feel as though you are in the story with them with descriptive scenery. With the jumping between realms and the different characters, it can become confusing if you are not paying close attention, same with the use of “they/them/etc” for Ruaranon. I would have to make sure that the novel is mentioning Ruarnon themselves and not the company that they were with as well. Overall, I enjoyed Manipulator’s War. I enjoyed how diverse the characters were and the descriptors that went along with each scene. If you are looking for an action packed science fiction novel with relatable characters look no further.

Spirit Guide, the third book in the Madame Chalamet Ghost Mysteries Series, is full of the same witty humor, suspense, mystery, and drama as the first two books. The slow-burn romance between Elinor and Tristan becomes a point of gossip for Elinor’s new apprentice, Twyla, and her maid, Anne-Marie. Elinor finds herself battling a familiar foe from her early days with the Morpheus Society. This was a very quick read, but still involved the same great world-building as the previous books. I fell a little more in love with all of the characters that Byrd Nash has brought to life. She is becoming a favorite author of mine!

In their new role Ruarnon finds that they are uncertain who to trust within the Royal Council and is also faced with the news that the neighboring kingdom wants to expand into Tarlah. Ruarnon is thrown headfirst into their role as heir to the throne and jumps straight into battling an ongoing war.
Meanwhile, Linh is on an excursion to Australia with her class when her and her classmates find themselves in a foreign land they do not recognize. As they try to find their way back Linh learns of a place that has a race that may have the knowledge to help her get back home. In her journey she stumbles onto a small island where monsters are attacking anyone and everyone. The monsters see everything as a target and annihilate anything that moves. Will she be able to escape to safety and find this race that will help her find her way home?
This book was action packed from the first pages as Ruarnon was thrust into their role as ruler of Tarlah. The storylines were entertaining, and I had to continue to read to see how the two were going to join together. I loved that the protagonist was non-binary and written from their perspective. The character of Ruarnon was written well and the author did a great job of including the struggles they faced as being non-binary without that defining them. It was an aspect of who they were, not what they were. A great read full of action, war, rivalry, betrayal, and even some monsters.

Even though this is #4 as a series, I read it as a standalone, and now I want to go back and read the first three. The story centers around multiple murdered bodies as an actors’ troupe is set to perform the cursed play, Macbeth.
As Macbeth himself says, “If it were done when ’tis done, then ’t were well It were done quickly”- I found the book a fast read, yet intriguing. The author, P.J. Mann, does an excellent job dropping enough hints to help you solve the mystery of the murder yourself, without hitting you over the head being obvious. Enough twists and turns to keep it interesting, and if I wasn’t such a well read mystery reader, I might have solved it before Inspector Scala.
I found the banter between Inspector Scala and his colleagues to be refreshing and highly realistic- I thought I was a fellow detective working along side him. The author also characterizes the suspects well- reminds me a lot of Donna Leon’s writing, which is a high compliment. I also enjoyed the inclusion of every day nuisances like traffic refreshing because even the police have similar irks as civilians!
As a side note, while reading this, I assumed the author was male, because PJ Mann illustrates the camaraderie and banter among the male police squad spot on.

This was an amazing murder mystery story. It was so well written and well thought out that there were times that I felt like I was right there in the story myself. I haven’t read any other book in this series, but I can say that this book was great by itself, I was not confused or lost because it was so amazing that this can be read on its own. But I can assure you I will be reading more. It was very fast paced, suspense, action filled, twists and turns, gripping book that I couldn’t put it down and had to read it as fast as I could to know what Detective Maurizio was going to do or handle the situation next. This book is just a wonderful read and amazing all around, highly recommend.

This is the 3rd and final book in the Descendants series. I do highly recommend reading the first 2 books first so this book is fast paced and it jumps right back in from the beginning, so if you didn’t know the story you could feel a bit lost. This is a YA fantasy story. It is action packed with adventure, danger, secrets, lies, Mysteries to solve and people to save, witches and magic add an additional sparkles to the story. The author does an amazing job with the main character Amy. She has had such a hard time as secrets about her parents came to light and the loss of her friend and she struggles to work through all that. At the same time the danger hasn’t left and she now needs to try and a find a way to save her mother but when the only person who can help turns out to be the only person she can’t trust, Amy is left wondering if she should put her trust in this person and if it is wise to do so. Can she save the people she needs to without losing her life or soul or will making a deal with the enemy be a decision she will regret? It was a great fantasy read which will keep you hooked all the way through.

This book is filled with witches, magic, adventure, life-and death, mystery, suspense, drama, betrayal, a now or never type of situations. This book the third book in the series and I wish I read the other three, but it did not make me feel like I missed or didn’t understand what was going on. It was very surprising and kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time, just waiting and wanting to know what was going on. It was exciting with all the number of things going on in the book especially the wonder when Amy found out there was a whole new world that she didn’t know about. Amy doesn’t understand what was going on and wondered what she needed o do, that she must figure out if what she wants is worth making a deal with the one, she finds an enemy. What an amazing read, and really am looking forward to reading the first ones.

This book is part of a series, but a great stand-alone read. This is a classic who-done-it and it has mysteries within the mystery. The characters are well- developed, and the plot moves along at a good pace. I highly recommend this book for anyone who likes a good, clean, book in which the author does not have to resort to sordid details (that is the plot device of a poor story). This is an excellent mystery, and I thoroughly enjoyed my time with the characters.

This is my first audio book by this author and I look forward to more in the future. I enjoyed the narrator’s tone of voice as well as their ability to keep the story engaging. The characters are connectable and add so much to the story. I really enjoyed them and what they brought to the story. I also enjoyed how the narrator brought so much life to the twists and turns that it had me coming back for more. A story of a recovery mission to save a father and a daughter determined to save him. A story with great growth and one I enjoyed listening to for sure. I highly recommend this audiobook.

Tripp is so protective of Soleil and her story is a sad one but he’s there when she needs him most ❣️ I really enjoyed them but I’m nosy as to to Tillie’s Mr X is , I’ve my suspicions and I hope I’m right but I’m sitting on the edge of my seat , holding my breath in great anxiousness 😉

How To Write A Historical Novel and Love It is a wonderfully written step by step guide to writing a historical story you’ve always wanted to write. I loved everything about this book the way it felt like she was explaining every step to me and giving me guidance on not only researching and writing but the publishing part as well. I greatly appreciate this author taking the time to write this wonderful guide you can tell she put her heart and soul into it. I highly recommend reading this book. This fantasy story was the first that I have read by this author and I enjoyed it. The writing style was good and I was entertained throughout the whole of the story. What a wonderful read! Dean and Rae have tons of things to work through but reading their journey was great even through the hard times. I love a good slow burn/ enemies to romance book! It’s two of my favorite tropes and this book definitely didn’t disappoint. Great characters and a well written story! I wish I could read it again for the first time!

This is the second read , different author , that I started and restarted after i redefined a word which adds a whole new dimension to the title and story within … well it made a difference for me ❣️📚

Juliana came from an affluent and powerful family so her father was not in favour of the love she shared with Dominic so when disappears after an argument it’s easy for “ daddy dearest” to blame it on Dominic and despite the fact that he’s found not guilty 2 years later , Dominic had not only lost the love of his his but he’s also lost 2 years of life , he’s determined to crawl his way to the top and with a full of vengeance it makes for riveting reading and a man I would not want to upset …..
Whitney looks so much like Juliana so when her path crossed with that of Dominic she tastes his ire firsthand and he doesn’t hold back , he’s hurt , he’s angry , he’s cruel and Whitney better have her wits about her , Dominic is not an easy man …,
I had mixed feelings about Dominic …. First I lived him then I hated him and then I just fell in love with him again ❣️😂🙈 as for Whitney , she’s a strong , patient , compassionate and brave woman she was a healing balm of sorts 🫶🏼

Rae is sent in to interview a property owner and write an article about a home when the original woman gets sick. However, the man at the house is not expecting her. He is rude and arrogant…and good looking…and did I mention arrogant? Dean is intrigued by the woman trespassing on his property. When he finds out the reason she is there, he entertains her for the weekend with thoughts of never seeing her again.
When their paths cross again, they start building a friendship…and, later, a relationship. But the betrayal from Dean’s past and the abandonment issues from Rae’s past keeps them from opening up completely to each other. This creates roadblocks that they can’t seem to overcome. When Rae shuts him Dean out completely, there is nothing he won’t do to tell her the truth…but is Rae willing to listen? Or has she closed off her heart forever?
This was a good story. It is a slow-burn that requires the main character to really work for it. There is a lot of emotional baggage to wade through, from both of them…but it feels so real because they are things that normal people go through in their own relationships. I could literally feel the highs and lows of the characters (and wanted to slap Dean upside the head a few times). I found myself immersed into their story and was rooting for them to find their happy endings.

His Forever Muse is book two in CR Alam’s The Echo Series. I fell for Brandon in book one. The romantic famous best friend. He just wants his happily ever after and he truly deserves it. Callie has had a hard time letting go from a hard past. There was a lot of character growth in this story from Callie. I enjoyed the second chance storyline between these two. It felt like any fantasy where you want to fall for the lead of your favorite band. I’m happy that Brandon got his story and that it was just what he needed. Very steamy spicy scenes. I feel like book two was much better than book one – though that is strictly personal preference.

Cash and Hollis own businesses next to each other…and have been trading pranks back and forth pretty much since Hollis opened up her pet grooming shop. They have all been harmless…until the latest one is going to cost Cash thousands of dollars. Feeling guilty, Hollis does whatever she can to help. However, working together causes their hate toward each other to turn into lust and, boy, do these to have chemistry that is off the charts. But, when the truth comes out about what is really going on, can these two trust each other? Or did a line get crossed that they can never come back from?
I enjoyed the banter between these two. While the pranks described are childish and humorous, I couldn’t believe that Hollis would take it that far. Watching her do whatever she could to help out, and ease her own guilt…and watching Cash take on the responsibility on his shoulders so others wouldn’t suffer…reminds me of what being the oldest child is like (even if Cash isn’t technically the oldest). It’s something ingrained in our brains and it is hard to turn off. These two worked through it in a way that felt so real! Overall, a good book that I enjoyed reading.
