I love when I get a new book by this author to enjoy with my children as they always connect with the stories so well. These two books were no different. My daughter loves these books as they are easy for her to understand and follow along with. She really becomes invested in the stories and requests to read them multiple times.
These two books were the first time my son has also shown an interest. He loved the pictures of the Dinosaurs and kept pointing to them trying to ‘roar’. This author has created two stories that appeal to the younger audience so well, and spans across multiple age ranges with ease. These are fantastic books and even I can’t wait to read them again.

Dinosaur Friends are stories about two sweet friends named Spike and Conifer. In these stories, you will see how friends can help each other not be afraid, to problem solve, and to beat the outside elements that can be scary.

The characters are delightful and the illustrations are gorgeous. This is a book I will read to my great-niece – she will love them!

This 2 in 1 book is so cute. Both books are about 2 friends, Conifer and Spike. These 2 stories were both about how together friends can face difficult or scary things. I loved how in each book the one struggling was different, showing kids that sometimes we need to help our friends and sometimes we need to let them help us. My grandkids adore dinosaurs and I can’t wait to read this to them.

These two stories were so cute! I read them to my little boy and although he was probably a little young to understand everything he did sit and listen well. He enjoyed the colourful illustration that accompanied the stories. Again as in previous books by this author the science elements to the story are really great and would definitely intrigue older children scientific minds about Volcanos, what happens to them etc. I found them to be really easy reads that would definitely keep the attention of children probably in the 5-8 years bracket.

This is a combination of two cute children’s stories in one book. The first story, A Present for the Volcano, has the two dinosaur friends work together to make a necklace for the volcano who is about to erupt. In the second story, Saving Conifer’s Eggs, the friends are united to work together to keep a forest fire from damaging Conifer’s eggs. I think both of these stories would be a good addition to a classroom library. There are social, emotional messages of cooperation and teamwork, creative thinking to problem solve, emotional regulation, and friendship in the book. Kids who enjoy dinosaur stories would also engage well with these books. The illustrations also add a vivid picture to the words.

I originally picked this book/books for my 7 year old daughter. She has a speech issue right now, so she is a little lower on the current reading level that she should be. Anyway, she did GREAT with these! And who doesn’t love Dinosaurs! I would recommend this book for any 5-8 year old, maybe younger if your reading it to your dyno loving child(ren). This book is great as an eBook, but I personally would recommend the other version because kids love to hold books and this one flips over and it’s another story! How fun is that, right?! On to the books…. The first book (A Present for the Volcano) is about two Dino friends and a Volcano. One dinosaur (Conifer) is afraid of the volcano and wants to run, while the other Dinosaur (Spike) thinks that the volcano is sad and needs a present. The two dynos give the volcano a necklace to make the volcano feel better. It takes all day, but their gift is complete. The volcano bursts and the dynos run. Read the book to find out the ending!! I don’t want to give anything away 😉 The next book ( Saving Conifer’s Eggs) is the flip side book, book 2. Conifer has a nest with three eggs that she is sitting on. Spike smells smoke and comes to warn her. They must run from the fire, but she can’t carry her three eggs with her two little hands. The friends face a few problems as they try to make it to safety with the three eggs. Will they make it safety? What happens with the eggs? Do they break along the way? Get burned? How do Conifer and Spike fair at the end?! Read this fun children’s books to find out more!! Both books are so fun! I really think kids will love not only the pictures, but the story too!

These books are cute for kids. My girls (3rd and 4th grade) read these and really like them. Conifer and Spike were faced with different issues (in one, they were trying to stop a volcano, and in the other, they were trying to escape a fire), and they found creative solutions to their problems (though to be honest, I’m not sure the solutions would work in the real world. These are creative stories targeted for young audiences and they are engaging and short/easy to read.

This is a cute 2 in 1 children’s story about two dinosaurs Spike and Conifer . These stories are about friendship and how sometimes friends may not agree on everything and how they work through their disagreements. My four year old son loves books and especially dinosaurs. We’ve read several times already and guaranteed to be read several more times in the future. My son was very eager to try and help the dinosaurs that he went and put on dinosaur saving clothes and was ready to go help. Can Spike and Conifer agree on what’s best? I highly recommend reading this cute children’s book that I truly enjoyed reading with my son. We look forward to reading more from this Author.

This 2 in 1 book was such a cute read. Lois Wickstrom never disappoints in the lesson being built into a story that is so easily understandable for little children. In the Volcano story, we see our buddies Spike and Conifer are worried about the volcano erupting. Conifer will never leave Spike so she asks him if the volcano might want a present. We see the buddies thinking that the volcano is going to erupt because it is mad (such cute personification). Together they built a necklace for the volcano around its base made of stone that took them all day. Once the last stone was in place the volcano erupted but lo and behold, the stone necklace they made at the base of the volcano held the lava back. Spike says: “See, we dint need to run. The necklace made the volcano happy.” I just love these two dinos!
The second book we see Spike and Conifer team up to save Conifer’s eggs from a forest fire. When Spike smelled smoke, he went to Conifer’s nest to let her know that they needed to get away. Conifer refused to leave her eggs and so she picked up her entire nest and carried it with them. The eggs were too loose in the nest, so she had to slow down and walk carefully. The friends knew that fire could not burn water, so they decided to take the nest with the eggs to the river. Spike felled a giant tree and pushed it to the river where the two friends used it as a raft and floated away from the fire.

Dinosaur Friends is two books in one. In Book One, A Present for the Volcano, Spike tries to make an erupting volcano happy when he thinks it is sad. Spike convinces his friend Conifer to help him build a necklace out of rocks at the base of the volcano. When the volcano erupts Spike and Conifer are thrilled when the necklace of rocks stops the lava flow.

In Book Two, Saving Conifer’s Eggs, Spike and Conifer smell smoke from a nearby wildfire. They know they must immediately leave the forest and get to safety. Conifer must save her eggs that she has been sitting on, but she has three eggs and only two hands so she does not know how she can save all three eggs. Spike tells her to pick up her nest and carry it which she does. Conifer walks slowly and knows that she must be very careful to not knock the eggs together or she will break them. Spike, on the other hand, is impatient and starts swinging his tail back and forth. In doing so, he knocks down a tree which he uses to push shrubs out of the way and make their way to the river. Once at the river Spike and Conifer use the log to ride down the river and get away from the fire.

These two books were such a cute read about friendship and working together. Along the way we also learn about dinosaurs who lay eggs, what happens when a volcano erupts, and the importance of teamwork. A great read for any child that loves dinosaurs. In fact, I think I will be purchasing another copy for my friend’s son who has a birthday coming up soon. I highly recommend!

Dinosaur Friends are two cute action-adventure stories. A Present for the Volcano is one book and turn it over and discover Saving Conifer’s Eggs. Two books in one. I had a book like that when I was little and I loved it.

These picture books are wonderfully illustrated and beautifully colourful. They are fun, charming and original. These imaginative tales delight children aged 4 to 8. I read them to my 5-year-old and 3-year-old grandsons and they fell in love with the characters and the pictures.

These dinosaurs are best friends, but sometimes they don’t always see eye to eye but they are always there for each other.

What child doesn’t love dinosaurs and fun tales?

Conifer and Spike talking about the volcano and talking about presents made my son think about the objects. This book deals with emotions such as fear and being scared as well as tackling friendship. My son said this was a good book about dinosaurs and a volcano.

I read these two Dinosaur Friends books, A Present for the Volcano and Saving Conifer’s Eggs, to my 6 year old son. He loved the pictures and guessing what would come next. He liked Saving Conifer’s Eggs more. He insisted on googling “ginko trees” after reading, to see if they were real. Thank you for adding in unknown trees, to help my little guy learn! The pictures are really cute and colorful.
We also had a discussion on the names of the dinosaurs. He knew Spike was the anklyo due to having spikes but wanted to know where Conifer came from. Then was mad because a carnivore shouldn’t be named after a plant- so there’s some 6 year old feedback lol
A Present for the Volcano was really cute. My son was sure the Lava would overflow, but was happy the friends were safe and were able to work together.

I love Lois Wickstrom books!! This is a special 2 books in 1.

In A Present for the Volcano, Conifer, a T-Rex and Spike, an ankylosaurus, are viewing the beautiful sight of nature but see a volcano that looks very unhappy. They decided to work together to make it a gift, which in turn, makes the volcano happy.

In Saving Conifer’s Eggs, Spike finds Conifer guarding her nest of eggs to let her know that there is a forest fire happening around them. They need to find a safe place to keep Conifer’s eggs so they work together in order to find that spot.

The illustrations in these books done by Nicolas Milano are very beautifully done! I love the stories too, how they use science to solve a problem.

We talked about what they thought helped the situation as well as what could be done to make it better and worse. I think it is short enough to keep everyone’s attention especially with the beautiful artwork. Both books, A Present for the Volcano and Saving Conifer’s Eggs were so cute. They are very short which I think its perfect for children as they usually don’t want to sit still too long, especially to read. The art is beautiful, it captured my attention right away. In both of the books, Conifer and her friend Spike argue about little things but, in the end, they work together to solve whatever trouble they are in. They are both great friends to each other, and it shows kids how friends can be different and have different ideas, or feelings but as long as they listen to each other and work together, things will work out.

Dinosaur Friends: A Present for the Volcano
This is a very cute book of friendship and science. Conifer and Spike are two friends that see a volcano erupt. They are trying to get out of the area. Spike has an idea. They try to improve the volcano’s mood with a gift. Making a “necklace” for the volcano ends up saving them from the lava. The story involves dinosaurs, volcanos and rocks. What more could kids ask for. Parents will see the kids get some fun out of science reading it. It’s a win win. The illustrations are bright and colorful. Bite size text. It’s the perfect book for storytime.

Dinosaur Friends: Saving Conifer’s Eggs
A forest fire threatens Conifer’s eggs. Spike helps Conifer figure out how to safely move them. Again, the kids are learning science in a fun way as they read about the dinosaurs trying to figure out how to get out. A win win because my grandson loved this book. He’s pretty black/white in his thinking so he took it a step further: how can they float? They are very heavy.
These books are really good for starting conversations.

Two Dinosaur Stories in One Book. Flip it over and read another story. These dinosaurs are best friends, but sometimes they disagree.

A present for the Volcano

Spike (an ankylosaurus) sees a volcano erupting. He thinks it is unhappy.  He wants to give the volcano a present to cheer it up.  He gets his friend Conifer (a tyrannosaurus) to help him build a necklace of stones around the base of the volcano. When it does erupt, the stones block the lava flow.

Saving Conifer’s Eggs

Spike and Conifer smell smoke and know they must leave the forest. But Conifer is sitting on her eggs. She has three eggs and only two hands.  When she lifts her nest, she must walk carefully so they don’t clack together. Spike is impatient and swings his tail back and forth.  He knocks down a Ginko tree. The two friends decide to take the fallen tree to the river and use it to float away from the fire.

Learn about volcanos and egg-laying dinosaurs. Learn about friendship, too.

Lois is a former high school chemistry teacher and former head science teacher at Science in the City Summer Camp in Philadelphia. She has also been an adjunct science teacher at University of South Florida. Since retiring, she continues to take science classes. Her class in Forensic Biology led to Little Red, The Detective, in which Red is studying fingerprint identification, so she can tell that “Grandma” isn’t who she says she is.

Lois has taken so many science classes that she believes science is the solution to almost every problem, including the dilemmas in fairy tales. She has invented what she calls Science Folktales. In each science-based tale, the protagonist achieves a better ending than the original because of learning scientific principles. She has turned some of these tales into plays.

She has also created a series of Mermaid Science stories, which make use of water science.

Lois is married to the love of her life. She has two children, four grandchildren and a dog.
