This historical mystery is different than my normal eveyday reads (romance) but I really enjoyed it. It was nice diving into a mystery because I had figure out what was happening along with the main characters. There’s alot of elements to thus story, theres mystery and secrets and some twists and turns that I didn’t see coming and well… you can’t forget MURDER. This was one I’d recommend if you like historic mysteries! I liked this authors writing style alot so I will be looking for more books by them in the future! Happy Reading!

Set in year 1899 in Colorado Springs, this book follows the young protagonist Cora work with famous Nikola Tesla in his secret lab . She assists Tesla in his detective work to unravel the mystery behind the murder of his assistant. She faces opposition from her own mother but she hangs on with her friends. It is a well narrated plot and the mystery lingers till the end. It is one of those stories which has a very strong female lead, in the times, when women were struggling to establish their footage. I enjoyed this book quite a bit and look forward to more from this author.

Once again our author knocks it out of the park. I have read this author before and she is quickly becoming one of my favorites, her writing is just simply amazing and she always manages to keep me on the edge of my seat. This book really had a little bit of everything mystery, intrigue, twists and turns, and of course murder. While I am not much for the historical genre, our author really grabbed my attention with this one. I thought I had it all figured out but by the end of the novel and the authors wonderful plot twists, I was all wrong. So if you need a good mystery to make you think, then pick this one up today.

Well this story felt like it has it all. Historical fiction – check. Mystery and intrigued – check. Interesting characters – check. A great storyline- check. I did not take long at all for me to become invested in this book. I wanted to figure out the mystery and see what was going on. The author really draws you into the book and takes you on the same journey as the characters. I thought the book was really well written. It was so easy to imagine the time and place the author were describing. At times I felt like I could really picture myself there, right among the characters. This book was a great one to read and I really enjoyed it from start to finish. Definitely a book worth picking up to read!

The year is 1899 and Cora Croft is seventeen years old, she lives is Colorado Springs and is in the last year of Palmer High School and is hoping to continue her studies in a prestigious university, however being interested in biological sciences and a woman is not going to help, so when she hears about a position as an assistant to Nikola Tesla, she is dubious, but decides to apply for the position anyway. The day she goes to see him, she is accompanied by Marshall, a long time friend and Harrison, a student in her class who is always trying to charm her, she has heard differing opinions on Tesla, but she wishes to make up her own mine, however, the position isn’t what she expected when the tasks are menial, however, when some papers go missing from the lab, Tesla reveals that this isn’t the first time this has happened and that the young man who was found dead the day before was his previous assistant.
This revelation shocks all three of them, but when Tesla announces that without those papers, he might as well just pack up and leave Colorado Springs, so Cora decides that she is going to investigate who has stolen the paperwork as well as look further into the death of the young man which also seems suspicious, so she asks Marshall and Harrison for their help and they agree, although reluctantly. Cora starts that evening by asking Harrison and Tesla questions, however, they don’t know overly much, so she decides to use her societal position to ask around the town and see if she can uncover any pertinent information, while Harrison and Marshall use their own connections to try and find information their way.
Cora soon realises that they might be in over her head when things start to happen and the more she investigates, the more danger creeps closer to her, Marshall and Harrison, but will they be able to solve the mystery before the person behind these nefarious acts comes after them? This is a historical mystery which is full of secrets, revelations and murder where you will be sucked into the investigation all the way until the suspect is uncovered.

The author was knowledgeable about the time period which really helped to pull readers in and keep their attention! The attention to detail really makes a difference! The characters are so well developed and each play such a significant role in the story! I cannot wait to find more by this author.

It has been a while since I have read a Mystery and I have to say I am so happy that I decided to read this fantastic book snuggled up on a cold winters day. I was completely hooked from start to finish! I loved the very creatively written story that takes us back in time so vividly you really can imagine everything as if you are right there with the characters. Speaking of characters I really liked Cora, as the lead character. She is smart and intriguing. The author added in some fabulous twists and turns that I wasn’t expecting at all. If you like YA mystery then this is definitely the book for you!

Cora Croft is a high school senior that gets the chance to be Nikola Tesla’s assistant. This is a wonderful chance for Cora; especially at a time that saw it as unusual for women to pursue such things. This assignment leads her into a world of murder and intrigue. I always enjoy reading this author. They really have a knack for a grand retelling of historical situations. As always a great plot and well-written characters lead the way. The plot sucks you in and the characters are relatable. Murder in the Lightning Room is a definite page-turner.

Nikola Tesla keeps his workshop a secret. Cora is chosen to work with him and discovers there are mysteries to be solved. This was a good book that kept me reading. I plan to read more by this author.

This book transports you to the Gilded Age and keeps a grip on you through the end! The author clearly is knowledgeable about this time period and location; these details make the pages come to life. Written in an adapted Old English style, it feels as though someone from that time period wrote it.
I have read many historical books about this period (and Nikola Tesla) both fiction and non-fiction, and this book is up there as one of my favorites. The messaging is consistent with historical figures and events, and the characters are well defined. The story is fun, engaging, and thrilling. A murder, some science, witty banter – all make for an engaging tale that I didn’t want to end! The suspects kept me guessing until the end, and wasn’t entirely what I anticipated!
I will be searching out other books by this author! Very well written.

When I saw the cover of this book I was already intrigued. This YA Historical story is a murder mystery and I thoroughly enjoyed.
Cora was approached with an opportunity to be an assistant for none other than Nikola Tesla. Cora would embark on this only get wrapped up in more than experiments…..there is a mystery to solve…. one of Nikola Tesla’s previous assistants death and documents that come up missing. Cora volunteers to help find out what happened so Tesla stays to finish his work and no leave to go back to New York. As the pieces are put together in this mystery…..danger lurks and secrets and twists come along the way. Will Cora uncover the truth with the aid of Harrison and Marshall?
This book was a fun read and the story flowed so well. Cora is smart and strong character and I loved her in this book.

I have had the opportunity to read other novels by this author, and I have to say, her writing style calls to my senses and pulls me into the novels pages more than I thought, especially when it comes to this genre. I have been picking up a lot of novels as of late with a strong female lead, based in the 1800’s, and this is definitely in my top five list, if not three. I admire Cora, what with her perseverance after the loss of her father, and then to not have the full support of her mother when it comes to who she really wants to be.
I loved the way the characters were built up, the friendship shared between Dove and Cora, and the respect that the community seems to have for them both. Cora is young, and watching her build a new relationship with Mr. Byrne as well was very fun and entertaining. The suspense, intrigue, potential for romance, and friendship woven into these pages made for a delightful read, one you should pick up, now! Highly recommend this authors work.

I absolutely loved this book! Set in the year 1899 in Colorado Springs, Cora finds herself working for the famous Nikola Tesla in his secret lab after witnessing the dead body of his previous assistant. Against the wishes of her mother, Cora continues her detective work to help Tesla find his stolen papers and remain in Colorado Springs with the help of her friends and eventually her romantic interest. Murder, intrigue, and mystery all combine to make this a wonderful story with a very strong female lead set in the past which I find myself drawn to. The dinner party wraps up the loose ends and discover all the secrets that have awaited our discovery. The characters, who are strong and very colorful, are well written, and the suspense just continues all the way to the last page. I have read other books by this author, but I must say that this is my favorite so far. Easy to read and enjoyable, this book is the perfect summer read for an afternoon of intrigue and lounging around the pool! Definitely recommend as a Young Adult book especially for teenage girls to read about a strong woman and the trait of perseverance and hard work

Cora is a 17 year old young lady who is about to finish up high school in Colorado Springs. Her instructor is giving her an opportunity of a lifetime…to work with Nikola Tesla! Cora is very excited about it but her mother really is not. After all, her mother is mourning the loss of a friend, that friend being the last assistant that Nikola Tesla had in his laboratory! Papers are missing, the lab is a mess, and Cora is put to tasks that she wasn’t expecting. She wanted in on all the excitement of conducting experiments but instead finds herself typing up reports and organizing receipts. It’s when Cora and her schoolmate Harrison start seeing that things aren’t adding up that they begin amateur sleuthing. A dinner party will change everything, including how Cora views some things in life.
This was an enjoyable book. It was a moderately fast read for me and I enjoyed the suspense of the mystery. I did figure out pretty early on who I thought the murderer was but did still have a few surprises along the way.

Murder In the Lightning Room brings us something different by the talented A.D. Brazeau. I have loved Ms. Brazeau’s other books, so there was never any doubt that I would snap up a copy of this to explore. It proved to be a very intriguing and engrossing YA historical mystery that incorporates the world of Nicola Tesla- as well as theft, murder, secrets, and so much more. Cora Croft is a 17 year-old school student with a nose for mystery. She is pulled into the mystery and sets about helping Tesla uncover the strange affairs. But with danger lurking things become complicated. What happens makes for an exciting read. I hope this is the start of a new series with Cora as she investigates various other mysteries. We will have to wait and see. Looking forward to whatever Ms. Brazeau has in store for us next? Happy Reading!

This author hit it out of the park again with Murder in the Lightning Room. Yes I’ve read this author before and they’re becoming one of my favorites. I’ve yet to be disappointed, confused sometimes but never disappointed. I was apprehensive about reading this, the familiarity with the author made my decision. A fictional story created that includes very real people and places of that time. Nikola Tesla was always on the move, from Thomas Edison’s people. I feel like this book was no exception as it definitely lent hints toward that. Cora, an interesting educated young female in a time that was frowned upon. Who has a flare for science. Determined to not get tied down and head to university her teacher gives her a potential break of her lifetime. A chance to be Tesla’s assistant. Little did she know that would lead her on a mission to find missing paperwork and a murderer. Harrison Byrne, also works for Tesla as an errand boy, but he seems to fancy Miss Cora Croft. He’s there when Cora declares to Tesla to give her a week to figure out what is going on. He vows to not let her go about it alone. They set out on an adventure that could possibly change their lives. I thought I had it figured out the whole time. Well I had most of it, a slight twist at the end surprised me. I wasn’t expecting it. If you like twists this book is for you!

Desiree is hunting the remaining vampires with some help from Theron. Jacob is a vampire that wants to find a way to hunt without killing. I could not put this book down. The setting of New Orleans makes this all the more reason to read this. I’ve never been there but I am adding New Orleans on my places to visit list. I love reading books that make me want to travel. The author did not disappoint. I hope we get novels in this series. The covers are so beautiful and alluring that it entices one pick it up. I love supernatural elements and this novel has so much of it. Such an enticing novel.

Oh My Goodness! I loved this book. I could not put it down, I devoured it in about a day. It was so easy to read and allow me to forget about everything around me (something I really needed). I don’t know if it’s accurate based on history but that didn’t matter to me. This author did a wonderful job creating great characters and an excellent world to get lost in! The story follows Cora in her last year of school. She finds out about Nicolas Tesla and is intrigued by him and his projects. Her good friend Marshall and Harrison, Cora tries to figure out the mysteries in the lab. It’s set in the 1800’s and bring you into the time era wonderfully! It unfurled like a movie in my brain as I was reading it. This book had me guessing up until the very end it was written so well! I can’t wait so see what other books this author has written. This book will definitely be one of my favorites to read over and over again!

I don’t know how much of Murder in the Lightning Room is historically accurate, but it made for a good story! The story follows teenager Cora through a series of adventures. She is one of the brightest in her grade and dreams of great adventure and a career not common for women in that time. She is presented with the opportunity to work with Nikola Tesla. Her mom is opposed, but she does so anyway. That is the start of a series of events that takes Cora and her friends on quite the adventure. They take it upon themselves to try to solve a crime spree that includes theft, murder, and betrayal. You’ll never guess who is found in the center of it all. I liked the ending, as it tied up the loose ends and provided a happily ever after for a few characters. I would read more by this author and would be happy if this book turns into a series. It was very action packed and kept me hooked until the end.

This book is amazing and recommend for anyone who loves mystery books. I was not able to put the book down unless I had finished it from the very beginning to the last word on the last page of the book. Nikola Tesla’s top-secret lab, theft, murder, and a seventeen-year-old girl bound and determined to unravel the mystery. The year is 1899. During her final year at Palmer High School in Colorado Springs, Cora Croft finds herself uncovering a mystery involving Nikola Tesla and his secret projects. The setting of the story takes us to 1899 in Colorado Springs, where we meet Cora Croft at the exact moment she comes across a dead body. This historical fiction novel pulls you in. 17- year old Cora Croft reminded me a few times of Anne of Green Gables. Cora is not the dreamer that Anne is, but Cora is not your typical girl of 1899. She’s got big plans as we learn, to go away to college, see places, and not settle. She sets out to be the assistant to a scientist that recently moved to town, and before long, someone is stealing documents, and another body piles up. Cora, Harrison, and Cora’s friend Wolf are set out to solve the mystery.
I truly enjoyed reading this young adult novel by A.D. Brazeau, my first that I have read by A.D. I found it easy to read, and the story flowed well, which made this an easy one to come back to. The story kept me interested. I found the characters likable. I’d recommend this to anyone looking for a quick and enjoyable read.

I was so excited to get to read book 2 of The Casket Girls series and it did not disappoint. The story picks up right after the end of book 1, then expands on a few new characters and personalities.
Book 2 finds Desiree with a plan to help all of those residing in New Orleans and that included clearing out all of the vampires. All except for Jaxon and Theron, of course.
With Greer away, Theron has to learn to cope without her. He joins Jaxon and Desiree with the new adventure.
While the imagery and plot are dark, the romance and mystery livens up (and lights up) this book which is a great addition to the series.
The way the author goes into such detail when describing New Orleans helps transport you into another time.
If you are a fan of paranormal mysteries with a romantic twist, this is the book for you. I loved it!!

As a young female interested in continuing her education, her teacher recommends she volunteer to be the new assistant of famed Nikola Tesla. As she embarks on the journey of assisting with intriguing scientific discoveries, Cora gets pulled into solving the mysterious death of Tesla’s previous assistant and finding his missing documents. Cora is such a well written character. She is full of inquiry, strong-minded and intelligent. Author Brazeau did a great job imagining these characters and found a way to make the story flow in a quick and interesting way. As the mystery unfolds, you are rooting for Cora and hoping she can help solve the mystery and continue to grow in the process. I highly recommend this novel to anyone who wants to go back in time, solve a mystery and go on a great ride in the process.

I really enjoyed this YA historical mystery novel, which had me hooked from start to finish. Set in 1899, in Colorado Springs, seventeen year old Cora Croft is in her final year at Palmer High School. She finds herself uncovering a mystery involving Nikola Tesla and his secret projects. Tesla is ready to pack up his secret lab and return to New York after the mysterious death of his assistant, and the theft of some important documents. However, when Cora offers to help him uncover who is behind these events, in order for Tesla to stay and complete his work he agrees. Cora along with friends Harrison and Marshall work together to unravel the mystery, and discover secrets along the way. Cora has to deal with time, the elements and social constraints, and then she discovers that she is in danger. This was a fast paced story with an exciting storyline and plenty of plot twists, which kept me happily turning the pages. I loved the characters, especially the likeable and relatable Cora, and I felt that I was alongside her uncovering the clues. The historical details really brought the era to life along with the real life Tesla.

We are welcomed back into this second book of this series with our main woman Desiree. After the events of book one she had one thing in mind. And that was the vampires need to be dealt with. Dealt with in the way of getting rid of them.
But, the arrival of another player in power makes that a much harder task to accomplish. I finished this in one sitting and truly cannot wait to read more from this author!!!!!

Welcome to Colorado Springs. Home to sparkling landscapes and barely a generation of history. Our completely relatable Miss Cora Croft – academic hopeful and hopelessly short of her mother’s example of corseted grace – would rather walk in the snow than be beholden. Amid the usual challenges for a lady of her age, social status, and upbringing, Cora tussles with calculus, physics, and gender roles.
Set 40 years after the gold-rush, the attraction of new residents to Colorado Springs is for medical reasons (consumption & tuberculosis). The railroad’s depot (Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe) constructed in Colorado Springs in 1917 is alluded to through character presence, but the town is still foot-traffic, horse, and buggy propelled.
With Pike’s Peak watching over the town and its inhabitants, Nikola Tesla watches over his experiments with physics. Despite the integral presence of physics and calculus in the workings of Tesla’s lab, readers needn’t possess specific knowledge of either topic.
The greater mysteries for Colorado Springs’ inhabitants are untimely deaths. Miss Cora’s scientific mind works through the myriad pieces to reveal the truth.

This was the second book I have read by A.D. Brazeau and I’m loving each book. So, in this book Desiree is our main character who is helping Theron, the vampire, her friends BF, fight off other vampires throughout the city. Desiree is determined to fight and kill the other vamps but then she meets Jaxon. Jaxon who wants to change and not kill innocent people anymore wants to learn to control himself and be like Theron. You see where I’m going…. Will Desiree have the happy ending that Greer did and find someone to love and that loves her back? This series is a MUST READ! If I could give it more stars I would!
