This is the first book I have read from this author and it was very good. I like a good fairytale but this story exceeded all my expectations. When I got this book I started to read it right away. I fell in love with the princess right away. I could not put this book down until the end. I’m going to have my teen daughter read it next.

Princess Zarina is so excited about her Royal advancement ceremony that she is wanting the perfect dress. She finds a seamstress that tells her she is going to make the perfect dress for her. When the princess picks up the dress it is not all when she was expecting. Zarina was upset that her dress was black and she was very upset. She is shocked when the dress doesn’t come off of her. When she gets back home she discovers that the king and queen are killed. Zarina now has to fight the invaders or her kingdom will be destroyed. Will Zarina save her kingdom or is she not ready?

A retelling of Cinderella that is intriguing with a surprise ending! The author, K.L. Small, does a fantastic job of deviating from the original fairy tale to captivate your interest, while still keeping enough elements of the original fairy tale (magic, bravery, saving people you love) to keep it fresh.

The best part of the book, in my opinion, is the characterization of the main characters. I grew to really like the growth the Cinderella character, Princess Zarina, exhibits as the story unfolds. She is not a stagnant character by any means!

Another aspect of the book I thoroughly enjoyed are the believable twists and turns to get the story from point A to point B. Nothing seemed “forced,” and a truly magical read.

Princess Zarina wants a dress to remember for her Royal Advancement Ceremony. She works with a special dressmaker to get a magical dress. The dress is magical indeed, but not the way she wants. Princess Zarina thinks a lot about herself and does not care much for people around her. When the kingdom is attacked, she must spring to action and save herself and the kingdom. Can she make some choices for others for a change? Will the magical dress help her?
The story is delightful and as it progresses, the complex character of the main protagonist emerges. Many middle school students can relate to this character.
I really enjoyed reading this book.

My middle schooler and I read this together and enjoyed every page! Princess Zarina must have the perfect dress for her upcoming Royal Advancement ceremony. When she works with a special dressmaker, she soon realizes things are not what they seem! Though her dress is magical, it is nothing like what she wanted. When her land is attacked, it is up to her to take action! Will this spoiled princess be able to save herself and her kingdom? Will the magical dress help her or hurt her?

Princess Zarina’s journey is mystical, magical, and relatable. Her character is complex, and she grows as the story progresses. The story is fast-paced, full of action, adventure, and emotion. My daughter found ways to relate to the character, which really brought the story to life. I am so glad we were able to share this book together!

I loved the story! I read it as an e-book and now I want a paperback copy so I can save it on the bookshelf for my daughter to read. I feel this is a very good book for middle schoolers starting to get into reading or venturing into the fantasy genre. There’s adventure, betrayal, and magic.
My only complaints are Auntie and the other stories. I wish the other stories were longer but considering this book is targeted for a younger crowed they make sense.
I was annoyed by Auntie because I was feeling more a childlike personality than someone who was forgetful on things.
I really loved Zarina’s character growth. She’s so spoiled and doesn’t try to hide it. I’m glad interacting with people throughout the town has helped her change her ways.
This book also has illustrations. I loved the map and thought the pictures of Zarina were perfect.

There is so much I enjoyed about this book! From the rich, imaginative storytelling and the gorgeous illustrations sprinkled throughout all the way to the family history notes this book was a pleasure to read. Written for younger readers but just as enjoyable as an adult, this book really kept my interest from start to finish. Zarina was painfully whiny at the start of the story as the youngest of many, and especially royalty is expected to be, I suppose. I was genuinely surprised when I found myself really connecting with the narration as the story progressed. I’m not one to often let my imagination run wild or seek out a fairytale type story but I’m really glad I gave this a chance.

I loved following Princess Zarina and her growth from a entitled princess to realizing that there are other important matters in life than herself. Zarina’s story has the perfect blend of adventure, conflict, mystery, and personal improvement. I originally intended to read this with my daughter, however, I finished it much too quickly. Now I look forward to letting her read it and tag along with Zarina’s adventure!

Fun, fast paced fantasy story filled with drama and magic. I really enjoyed this story and I am really hoping for more in the future :).

Princess Zarina wants the most beautiful dress for her upcoming Royal Advancement Ceremony and be the center of attention, spoiled and all. When Zarina’s aunt suggests a dressmaker in the forest to make her own unique dress, Zarina jumps at the chance to meet this mysterious dressmaker. When Zarina picks up her dress at first she was stunned and unhappy. This dress that was made especially for her is unique and magical. Once this dress is put on by Zarina, this leads to so many events that she ends up learning not be the spoiled princess she is entitled to but fighting for her kingdom, especially after the deaths of her parents, the King and Queen.

The magical dress has some instructions on the magic and its use, will Zarina use this to her advantage and help take back her kingdom that belongs to her family, when it boils down to someone close to her family is a traitor?

Wonderful story and recommended to young and old! Enjoyable!

Princess Zarina a very spoiled and selfish princess is coming up to her advancement ceremony which is very important, however her father needs to add some politics into her very special day so now she wants a very special dress to stand out. All the seamstresses in the kingdom are extremely busy making dresses for everyone and her Aunt has heard of a seamstress who does very special gowns but doesn’t live on the castle grounds. Princess Zarina wanting to be the sole focus of this party makes a reckless decision to get a dress from this seamstress and she gets way more than she bargains for. The special dress starts a series of events where she has to make decisions that could mean life or death for others. Can Princess Zarina save her kingdom, can she mature and learn to be selfless?
Wonderful story definitely worth the read

This is an amazing story book for beginner readers of pre-teen/teen ages. The fantasy in this book is sure to suck in even the most inexperienced readers. This story has every aspect you would want in a starter chapter book: adventure, magic, growth, and relatability. Not only does it cover the basics of fantasy, it has the relatability factor to that specific age group. It deals with self-righteousness, selfishness, and the “I’m better than you are” attitude. Luckily the story creates an adventure to deter these traits. A book like this is exactly what I want my children to gravitate to as they begin exploring new, uncharted worlds through reading.

This fairy tale by K.L. Small is captivating! An epic fantasy with magic, castles, adventures, and, of course, life-lessons. I love fairy tales and I love the art on the cover of this book, and that drew me in right away. Princess Zarina makes a bad decision and gets trapped with the consequences. Will she see beyond herself to save the day? This book is a brilliant introduction to the fantasy world for any reader.

This was a very good story. Princess Zarina is the youngest of the royal family. She is deemed the most beautiful of the children. Unfortunately it leaves her out of touch with the world. She’s selfish and materialistic. After the dressmaker makes her a special dress, she is tested in ways she never was before. She learns valuable life lessons along the way. I think it’s relatively easy to read. It moves at a decent pace and is ok for kids about 10 years old and up.

This was a really enjoyable children’s book and one that would be a great introduction to fantasy for younger readers. The story was really easy to follow and read. It would definitely get young imaginations going as the author really did well with the descriptive language. I could easily imagine what things looked like and even imagined what some of the characters would sound like. I liked that there were chapters in this story and would be perfect for children to read before bed at night.
The main character Princess Zarina was actually a really great character progression wise, as her story evolved so did she as a character.
Overall a great story and on I would definitely recommend for young readers.

Princess Zarina comes from a large family and is very selfish. She is going to have her royal advancement is approaching. In true Princess fashion she must have a magically beautiful dress, but little does she know, she should be careful what she wishes for. This enchanting dress is just the beginning of her adventure. This book is captivating from beginning to end. You will not be disappointed.

My daughter and I started reading this together as a part of our nightly routine. Following Princess Zarina and her black magic dress was a tale to be reckoned with. Watching as Princess Zarina started out as this spoiled princess was almost off-putting and my daughter didn’t like her at all at first. But as the story progressed, and Zarina became more and more less spoiled and like a warrior princess to avenge the death of her parents, was absolutely amazing. My daughter absolutely loved this book as did I. The writing was fantastic and certainly kept us entrapped and entertained and wanting more each night. One more paragraph became one more page and one more page became one more chapter, we just couldn’t stop! This will definitely be put on our favorite book list to read over and over again.

Zarina was very spoiled princess but during the course of the story she learns to be more humble from the people in town. She gets a dress that wasn’t quiet what she wanted. The dress might have some abilities that can help her navigate through the adventure she goes on.

This is a fantastic children’s fantasy book with great imagery and storyline. A spoilt Princess finds herself stuck out in the kingdom and needs to find her way back to the castle. I love fairy tales and I loved the cover of this book. So of course when two things you love in literature coincide you definitely want to read that novel. Princess Zarina… well what else is there to say, but she is a princess who makes a bad decision and gets involved with the wrong person. Now trapped with the consequences of that decision she must avoid capture and save her kingdom. This is a fast paced fairy tale with all the magic and allure you would expect from one. I very much enjoyed it although I would have expected more details, as when I read I get images of the places and things and there weren’t quite enough to get a complete picture. Other than that this was a excellent story.

A Dress To Remember: A Fairy Tale by K.L. Small is a captivating children’s chapter book- an epic fantasy with magic, action, adventure, life-lessons, evil villains, witches, castles, an enchanted dress, agendas, invaders, and high stakes.
This is a story about how a spoiled princess steps up to save her kingdom- setting off on a magical adventure she could never have imagined. The story isn’t all flowers and rainbows, as the author added some darker, heavier tones to her storyline that bring their own challenges for our mc to overcome. We follow and get a front row seat as Zarina has responsibility thrust upon her under almost impossible circumstances- and watch as she navigates her new situation. Add in an enchanted dress- and the story takes an even more intriguing turn.
There are several wonderful illustrations that also help to bring the story to life.
Happy Reading…

Thank you K.L. Small!

Princess Zarina is a very selfish princess. She’s the 13th child of the King and Queen and is definitely very spoiled as well. Her Royal Advancement is coming up in the next couple of weeks and she is need of a new dress. However, her parents call a family meeting and announce that things will be a bit different for this ceremony.

Princess Zarina decides to take matters in her own hands when it comes to her dress. Afterall, the royal dressmaker will be busy with the Queen and other Princesses’ dresses. Zarina’s dress MUST be special. Auntie tells her about a dressmaker so one day, Zarina pays her a visit and puts in her order.

The whole world changes when Princess Zarina picks up her dress. It’s not at all what she wanted and things just start to fall apart for Princess Zarina and her kingdom. Can they ward off those who’ve come to destroy their dynasty?

This book reminded me a little bit of the Wizard of Oz. It seems like that kind of fairy tale. I’ve seen others who’ve compared this book to Brave and Cinderella. All are fitting. Young readers will love the story and will hopefully learn from Princess Zarina and her mistakes. Watching her grow throughout this story should inspire people who are reading.

This was my first read by this author but I’ll be looking for her other works.

I really enjoyed this story. It is a moving story about a young princess who is always selfish and how she changes by the experiences she has. The author does an amazing job of creating this story and our princess.
Princess Zarina is very head strong and as the youngest child she is used to getting things her own way but this isn’t a good thing as she has grown up to become selfish, only concerned about herself.
When she get a dress made for a ball being held in her honour, the dress isn’t all that it seems. It’s magical and the stories it unravels will teach this princess that by helping and thinking of others it will make her a better person.
What happens once she is in the dress turns into an adventure as she matures and finds herself. There is danger, loss, unexpected reunions and a snake in the grass determined to destroy the Kingdom.
