Waiting to Fall (The Waiting Duet: Book 2) by Alyson Reynolds – Review by Jenni Bishop

Waiting to Fall (The Waiting Duet: Book 2)Waiting to Fall by Alyson Reynolds
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Waiting to Fall follows on from Waiting to Breathe and Olivia and Nate’s story continues in the background of this book. They are still very much in love and going strong which brings a smile to my face whenever Finn sees or hears anything remotely about their sex life.

Finn and Cora are our main characters in this story. As much as they give it to each other and there is always tension between the two, they are best friends. I loved the way they were with each other and could not wait to see what happens between them. Finn is a great friend and brother who is caring, loving, sweet and smart. Oh and did I mention sexy? Finn would do anything for those he cares about. Definitely a boy you would want to take home to mum.

Cora is also a caring, loving, sweet and funny woman who is also there for the ones she loves but she doesn’t see herself that way. What she sees someone who is broken, insecure and damaged. She doesn’t do relationships and when the quiet gets too much she turns to Finn. Finn knows the horrors she endured and has always been there for her.

After Finn and Cora hook up confusion is the name of the game. Taking things just that one step further leaves them both reeling with unsure emotions. Finn is Cora’s best friend, Olivia’s twin brother should they embark on a relationship and things go south where would that leave things? They are both afraid of ruining their friendship and Cora has issues she needs to deal with. Both are stubborn but when they are faced with life and death will they both realise what is important in life? Both are worried how Olivia will take their relationship and don’t want to hurt her but doing so may be enough to keep them apart.

This book is set at the same pace as Waiting to Breathe. It is a great story that will have you holding your breath and breaking your heart but at the same time laughing and enjoying the great connection you have found with these characters.

Waiting to Breathe (Waiting Duet, #1)Waiting to Breathe by Alyson Reynolds
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Olivia Crawford’s life has been forever changed, she has been to hell and is trying to find her way back. One step forward, two steps back, this has been her life for so long she doesn’t know how to live any more. For someone so young she has had to experience for far longer than she should have. Being away for so long without support was one of the hardest things she has had to endure. Here she is on her first day at SCU and she is wondering how she will survive it but for her twin brother Finn, she is willing to try. However when a part of the past turns up it turns her world upside down. The walls that were coming down brick by brick are now firmly back in place.

Nathaniel Ford is studying hard at SCU, his past has made him decide what he wants from his future. He live in a frat house with his best friend, Finn, his frat Brothers and he has the best of friends. He is from old money but that doesn’t rule his life. He has known tragedy and his family life is not what it what appears from the outside looking in. Nate and his mates literally run into an angel and from that moment on his life is changed forever. This angel is sassy and feisty but at the same time broken and he has never wanted anything more in his life.

Can Nate break down Olivia’s walls and show her what a real life looks like. Can Olivia let another person in? Can she trust enough to share her secret and all that it involves or will the ghosts from the past stop that from happening? Will Olivia believe the worst and push everyone away, just when she needs them the most? Can Olivia get over a betrayal? Will Nate lose it all?

I enjoyed the story and it held my interest. The story flowed well and it was emotional but sweet. There is a little suspense and some action, at times I wanted to slap some sense into the main female character but all in all the author created a story where you will find yourself being drawn into their world.

Waiting to Breathe (Waiting Duet, #1) by Alyson Reynolds – Review by Jana Teppih

Waiting to Breathe (Waiting Duet, #1)Waiting to Breathe by Alyson Reynolds
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Waiting to Breathe is the first book in Alyson Reynolds’ Waiting Duet. It is the first book I have read by this writer. I guess you would classify the book as a new adult romance taking place in college.
It is a beautifully simple and striking writing that makes it so easy to relate to Olivia and Nate (and Finn and Cora). Alyson tells the story from both Olivia and Nate’s point of view so you always know what they are feeling which makes the story come alive!
Despite of the writing being simple, the story was emotional, angsty and packed with drama which one would expect when knowing what has lead Olivia and Nate to where they are in their lives when they meet. Also, I liked that the story did not follow the typical college stories stereotypes of a player athlete meeting a nerdy girl etc. Nate is not a player at all, he is very focused on his studies and at times he reminded me of old world gentleman; Olivia is an extremely smart young woman who thinks that she is broken because of what she has experienced prior meeting Nate.
The writer is tackling some really tough topics that young people (and also older people) have hard time to deal with. You question some of Nate and Olivia’s actions and you keep your fingers crossed for them and hope that even when something really terrible has happened in your life, the sun will come out and there is future for you! One can find happiness after a lot of pain.
It is a great read and you will not regret the hours spent with Olivia and Nate. I am looking forward to Cora and Finn’s story!
