Flame and Crystal Thorns intrigued me from the start. Chloe is not your typical heroine of the fantasy world. She is not the brave warrior running into battle, or manipulating her enemies to bend to her will. Chloe is, however, an insecure healer with quick wit and a sassy spark. While Chloe is all too familiar with the fantasy world, she is perfectly content living amongst the mortals as a town apothecary, and would be just fine if she never had to return to Faerie. Fate doesn’t spin that way this time….does it ever? A fae from her past shows up with some somber news – the castle where her sister dwells has been taken over. Although reluctant, she decides she has to save her sister, so back to Faerie she goes. I have never read anything from this author, so no previous reads are needed to get into this series at all, but I will be grabbing the other books to see if it helps in any way. The world building and characters were well written and easy to follow, definitely worth the time!

Deadly Sommer had me hooked from the beginning and only got better. Nora Sommer is the new constable in the Cayman’s and has quite a bit on her plate from the very start. Coupled with recent loss and grief and new beginnings, Nora has her work cut out for her. Taking on the new job, Nora expected a change in pace and a bit of time to relax, but that just isn’t the case. She is thrown into a kidnapping case almost immediately and it only escalates from there. It isn’t long before she finds herself in the middle of a sick mind game, where she has to solve four challenges and race against time to rescue the kidnap victim. As the author slowly feeds you clues, you find yourself more and more involved with the plot and the characters. This is a great page turner for those who love murder, mystery, and mayhem. I will definitely be grabbing the future books in this series to see where we go next!

Sashimi is the follow-up of Evil Sushi, and picks up right where book one left off, so you will want to make sure you read that first! That being said, I enjoyed this one much more than the first one. I feel like the author and characters both evolved and improved in this book and I read it cover to cover in one sitting. I was intrigued with how much was going on, but not overpowering each other. You have some danger aspects, environmental issues, secrets, and mystery shrouded amidst a “pandemic” type situation. Evil Sushi had me interested, but not fully in love with this series, but Sashimi changed my mind fully, and I am completely onboard. This is definitely a series unlike any other, and worth the time to read it. I think this series will be interesting to people from all different genres and there is something for everyone. This is nothing like you have ever read…unless you have read a book about evil fish. Local Fishermen, Rod and Ned, thinks they have stumbled upon a new species, but soon find out maybe that isn’t ALL that they have found. Just in case you are wondering, this is not about zombie fish, that would just be silly, wouldn’t it? I enjoyed this one as the unique paranormal read that it was. I wouldn’t put it down as the BEST book I have read but it is far from the worst. I appreciated the down to earth, easy to follow characters and relatable aspects of “what COULD happen if….” This will easily appeal to quite a few people from different genres and was worth the time. I will also be reading the next one (Sashimi) so that should tell you it isn’t awful. If you are interested in unique and intriguing paranormal aspects, but not like anything else you have read, give this a try.

A very fast read, and one that you will want to read cover to cover in one sitting. Josie has filed divorce from her abusive husband and having a hard time with life in general. Things are not made any easier since she was also bullied throughout her school days, and now comes the Pandemic. Secrets are being kept, and things are hush hush when Josie discovers a body in the river near her home. But, this is not the first time she has had this happen. In fact, that was the source of her bullying throughout school. You see, Josie reported a body in a river in middle school. A body that was never found. Now things look a little bit suspicious, as finding TWO bodies is not exactly common. Who can she trust? Is it coincidence that she has found two bodies? Are they related? If so, who is involved, and why? And why is she the target and interest for something she has nothing to do with? All are questions that will be answered! I really enjoyed the way you can easily relate (as a reader) to the main character as she is thrown into the Covid 19 uncertainty, among her already deteriorating life. I loved Josie’s resiliency and ability to take things on at face value, even when the cards were stacked against her. I loved this one, and will surely be seeking out more from this author.

I loved the premise of this story, and it definitely caught my attention. My only REAL complaint (if you want to call it that) is the story is just too short for me. At 120 pages, you are only getting what I would call the bare minimum. The characters were good, the writing style was definitely there, and the story/plot has great potential. I am very familiar with La Llorona so maybe I am heavily biased about what I expected going in. The main character, Mercy, is easily relatable for most people, and easy to like as the protagonist. She is well written and has character depth and advancement. I also enjoyed how the author added in some more serious topics that today’s society faces, adding again to the relatable aspect. There are also so many quotable one liners in this book, and specific parts that stood out to me. Class Clown by Allan Evans is the second installment in this set (The first is Abnormally Abbey). I have not read the first book, but had no issue getting into this one and did not feel like I was missing information, so it can be read as a standalone. After reading this one, I will be going back and reading Abnormally Abbey (and others by this author) as it was exceptionally interesting to me, and different than your “typical” ghost story. Abbey is your average 14yr old high school girl….or is she? She can see and communicate with spirits, but this is not always as fun as it may sound. This time, she has piqued the interest of a clown at the traveling circus that has come to town…and he seems pretty intent on following and harassing her. But that is only where it starts, now her new-found soccer teammates are starting to come up missing…Is it all connected? If THAT doesn’t catch your attention, there are TONS of 80s music references in here to keep all of us “old people” in a nostalgic head spin. Finally, A box set where EACH book is worthy of being in the set! This author is SO good at creating an entire multiverse of characters, species, and worlds that are unique and different than anything you have read before. Rather than go on and on about how epic this set is, I will post my reviews for the individual books.
Journeys Through SpaceTime is a complex and intricately woven web of many different worlds/dimensions and therefore, characters. I had a difficult time in the beginning remembering who was who, and keeping up with all the diverse characters, each with their own unique personalities, lives, thoughts, and even worlds at times. It almost is reminiscent of Game of Thrones, in the writing style and the way it follows multiple timelines, simultaneously. I was curious how the author would be able to bring all these diverse characters together, to make it blend seamlessly and not feel awkward, and found I was enjoying THAT mystery as much as the book itself! Not a light read for the average reader, but I found myself indulged and wanting to know what happened next, and to who! I was pleasantly surprised, as Sci-Fi is not my typical choice of genre, and cannot wait to dive into part two, Journeys Through TimeSpace! I think this one deserves a 5 star, it is not easy to have so many complex personalities that are so well written!

In this book, the battle to save Earth continues, but this battle is a little different. Instead of only traversing across the multi-verse, the characters are now traveling through time as well. I highly suggest reading book 1 (Journeys through SpaceTime) before heading out on this adventure, as it will make much more sense. I was very happy to see some of my favorite characters from book 1 return (but I won’t spoil who!), and learn more about who they are, and why. I was so invested in this series, wondering and hoping along with the characters, that good will overcome evil (in a sense). I am not typically a sci-fi reader but this series had me on the edge of my seat and I flew through the pages without effort. I truly hope to see a 3rd book in this set, and 110% recommend this series to everyone! 10 out of 10 stars, easily.

I was unfamiliar with this author and decided to give it a chance based on the synopsis and very glad I did! The story is so captivating and engaging, the characters well written and the plot had me wanting to stay up into the late night hours reading! I appreciated how down to earth and relatable the characters are, and the growth they show throughout. Adrijana is the main focus, and the Royal Family is being targeted, one after the other. Now she has to figure out the who and the why. With the help of some magicians that can control thoughts and emotions, the story intensifies. This is one of those “I never expected to like this, but what the heck” books turned into “OMG, I LOVE THIS” and definitely not sorry to have grabbed The Mesmerist. I will be looking into more works by this author, definitely worth the chance!
In this fast paced story, Thomas sets out on a hike and turns out to be one heck of an adventure. I am not typically a Sci-Fi reader but this one kept me wanting to know what happens next. I really enjoyed how well the scenes were set and the pictures laid out for you. The geeky references to Star Trek and other sci-fi related shows really made me smile. I enjoyed that the main character is not your typical young stud that winks at all the ladies and wins them over, but a 60 yr old man with realistic expectations. It definitely reads smoothly, and easy to follow, with intricate characters and character growth along the way. This is a new author for me, but I really enjoyed the writing style and pace. This reads so easily, after going through our very own pandemic. Kendra Griffin takes you on a whirlwind of different elements with Apocalypse Thoughts, with her characters and the world she builds for you. I think what I loved the MOST about this book is the main character. The not quite yet adult, Kella leads the serious story with lighthearted humor that had me laughing and relating all at once. She is a sassy no-nonsense type of girl that we can all relate to, or have known someone like her. The life of the party, even when there is no party. Her traveling party add into the fun/adventures that await them. This book has everything you would expect from an Apocalyptic time, with action and duress, complications and twists all around. This is like modern day Covid meets The Walking Dead, but not too scary (think more in terms of a teen read than a full on scary zombie book). I started this book yesterday afternoon, and writing up my finished review less than 24hrs later. I couldn’t put it down! I have not read the other books prior to this, so it can easily be read on its own, but I will be going back and adding the others to my must read list. Overall, this is a 5 out of 5-star book. States of Grace is full of twists and believable characters! The main character is not the typical “perfect” heroine where everything always works out, which was relieving. Grace Locke is a lawyer on the verge of losing her license, and must figure out a way to pay the bills. She takes on a teenage client who she does not believe is guilty, and determined to prove it. It does have a little bit of a slow start, but it builds up quickly once things start to progress, and then shoots off to 90 mph. I enjoyed the mix of the mystery and legal standpoints, and how stubborn the character is (which is relatable, haha). The author’s use of details was very well done and made the story entertaining, but still believable. Definitely give this author and book a chance. I read this entire book in about 2 days, and am looking forward to reading more from this author, and this series. Reviewed by @zoltrixes

There is just so much to this book, so many layers to unravel! Black Canvas is full of mind games that keep you guessing, deception, and control (or lack thereof!). I would read some parts and think “oh my gosh, I know where this is going” and then a bit later, be shocked to see that I was totally wrong. You will not guess this one. It is darker and more twisted than most of the things I have read recently, but in a train wreck you can’t look away from sort of way. It catches you unaware, and you cannot help but continue to the next page, and then the next chapter….It does start a little slow and confusing but once you get into the meat and potatoes of the platter, things go straight to the psychological complexities. Without giving anything away, I loved the use of the mask in this book. The physical use of hiding behind it, and the psychology of being able to be whoever you want to be, and still be “unseen” was such a fun concept. This book is for anyone that likes to keep guessing, and still be in for a surprise. My only complaint with this book is that I finished it in 3 days LOL. Well written and well researched!

What a powerful read! I did not expect to enjoy this one as much as I did. I usually am lost with historical books, and have a hard time relating or keeping pace but decided to give it a shot based on the reviews and plot. Boy, am I glad I did! The author uses fictional characters paired with real events from WWII in a way that keeps you turning the pages. The story centers around a family secret and an amazing trek throughout Europe. The imagery and unexpected twists kept me engaged, as I was intrigued by the unique POV. This one is a great read for those who are interested in historical reading (even though it is fictional) and even those who are not as interested (like me), definitely give it a shot!

WOW! Colors of Darkness is such a touching and inspiring read, and it caught me completely off-guard. To begin with, the author is blind and brings such awareness to the struggles and achievements that come with having a disability. I love how it teaches others to not only be aware, and how to deal with disabilities, but also to be more caring and sensitive about it. The descriptive poems are so heartwarming and touching, and the activities included help you “see” what it is like to live with blindness. I am thankful to have picked this one up since I have always been very much about being kind to others, but this opened my eyes in a way I didn’t know I needed. Thank you for this unique spin on what it is like to miss out on one of your senses! I say this one is a must read.
Broken Chains is a dark romance centering around the mafia and has tons of trigger warnings. Brutality and extremely graphic scenes of sex and violence, secrets and lies…it all fills the pages. If you can look past that, it is actually a great book and awesome storyline. I found this author to be unique in her ability to draw you in, and hold you there, as if you are a bystander watching the scenes unfold. The characters are convincing and not overly done, but also engaging and you find yourself loving and hating each one individually. I will definitely say, Broken Chains is probably NOT for everyone, for the reasons I have already stated, and I did not think it would entice me as much as it did. I really do not want to get into much more, or drop hints into the plot or the twists that come with it, but I will say this book was well written and I will be seeking out others from Karina Kantas immediately. Bravo – 5 stars.
No spoilers, but DEFINITELY pick up Silent Gavel (Book 1 in this set) before reading this one, you will thank me. This book continues where the last left off, with Lauren, the court stenographer. Lauren is in a predicament and lack of finances leads her to accept work under her ex-husband, who is a new judge. Now she is faced with past conflicts and things may not be as they appear to be at face value. When Lauren realizes the wrong the wrong person is being accused, she must decide if she will do the job she was hired for, or try to seek out the real killer. Hang in there with the lengthy court testimonies, it will be worth it, and make sense later! I will be awaiting the next one for sure! Well done!

This one started off a little different than I thought it would, but once I got into it, I couldn’t put it down. Lauren Besoner is a court stenographer and I enjoyed learning a bit about the proceedings and the life behind the scenes of a courtroom. She is also the lead suspect in a recently murdered judge that she happened to work for. As an innocent that has come across the body of her former employer (and more history to be found out later), she starts her own investigation into the crime. The story progresses in a realistic way, not flying from suspect to suspect as some stories do. I particularly liked that it was easy to immerse myself into. My only drawback, if one is to be found, was the unnecessary “extra” conversations that were not important to the story. (But could be seen as character building, so I understand why the author may have included them) Well done for this author and I will surely be reading more, including the follow up book!

I was pleasantly surprised with Whisper Creek: A Logan McKenna Mystery (Book 7 in the series) since I have not read any of the others. This one can be a standalone, as I had no issues following the story or understanding what was going on (without any background). From the very start, we understand there is already a murder and many people that could be the possible killer. Davisson does a very good job keeping us guessing and switching up my primary suspicion on the suspect. I loved that, as the author, she kept a very neutral stance, never indicating one way or another which suspect we should favor, and left that all up to us, the readers! The scenes were well set, the characters well written, and the mystery plentiful! I will be going back to read the others in the series now, 10 out of 10!

I had a difficult time in the beginning remembering who was who, and keeping up with all the diverse characters, each with their own unique personalities, lives, thoughts, and even worlds at times. It almost is reminiscent of Game of Thrones, in the writing style and the way it follows multiple timelines, simultaneously. I was curious how the author would be able to bring all these diverse characters together, to make it blend seamlessly and not feel awkward, and found I was enjoying THAT mystery as much as the book itself! Not a light read for the average reader, but I found myself indulged and wanting to know what happened next, and to who! I was pleasantly surprised, as Sci-Fi is not my typical choice of genre, and cannot wait to dive into part two, Journeys Through TimeSpace! I think this one deserves a 5 star, it is not easy to have so many complex personalities that are so well written!

Chatroom With A View starts out at 100mph and never slows down. Troy Cullen comes from a dysfunctional family and continually questions his part in the role he inherited. Dysfunctional is the understatement of the year in a family where murder has been ongoing for generations. Glenn Maynard paints a very dark picture, from the opening chapter, and doesn’t stop there. Every time I THOUGHT I figured out the “why” of the main character’s thinking, or almost sympathized with him, another curveball was tossed our way. Not only is the main character the product of generations of abuse, neglect, and even murder, he is constantly battling his own mind on where he stands in all of this. Nature vs Nurture is the ongoing question. Then, enter “Veronica”, the sweet and caring girlfriend…. or so she seems. Without indulging too much, she is not who she seems. Nothing is easy for Troy Cullen, that much is apparent from page one. Whether you sympathize with his choices, or not, he is a strong character, and well written. This was definitely NOT what I was expecting when I started in on Chatroom With A View, but I was pleasantly surprised. I love things that have a dark path, or a surprise twist, and this is full of both. Definitely 5 stars.
