Into the LightInto the Light by Kate McWilliams
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

First and foremost I loved the trigger warnings in the front of the book. The thought that and care to how the story may affect the readers is always welcome. This is the first book by this author that I’ve read. (Now I have to go back and read the others).Although this is a romance novel it does touch upon a lot of dark areas. It’s a bit of crime thriller. Each character was developed nicely and relatable. Definitely kept my interest enough to finish in one sitting. There is a lot of trauma in the story but also a lot of love, friendship and healing.

This story is written beautifully. It’s quaint, gentle, but there’s something about it that hooks you in. The author gives you enough on each page to make you want to keep reading. The pages are filled with magic, bravery, and strength. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a bit magic and mystery.

I thoroughly enjoyed From Brick & Darkness. It’s a great twist on on a fairytale. Nothing is given for free. It all comes at cost. If you had the power to make everything happen that you’ve ever wanted, how tempting would it be to use it no matter the consequences? Most of us would struggle with that decision. This young adult book was page turning and any teen or adult can get lost in this book. Cannot wait to see what else this author puts out.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Although I am happy that all of the kids live and survive, the trials and tribulations they go through I couldn’t imagine my kids surviving. Finn is still my favorite character. He’s young and has a lot to learn but he has such a big heart. Probably one of the most selfless characters in the book. Kara I’d becoming her own woman and finding her way. After seeing how most people are during this time I admire Agne even more. He chose to pay for everyone who worked his land and helped his household when most took slaves. He treated the women decently and made sure his workers were well kept. I hope that Gurid and her family can rebuild and reunite. Can’t wait for book 5.

This has been the best book in the series so far. Following Finn on his adventures is amazing. He serves his uncle Well and his father would have been proud. Each kid has been brave during these times. My heart broke for Finn when he found out about his father. The family has had to endure a lot and each member has been finding their strength and digging deep to survive. I hope Mae is truly happy and that Kara finds her happiness. I was super displeased by Gurids brother and sister in law. I thought they would’ve been more helpful. Hopefully Gurid will be okay after Kara’s actions. I cannot wait for the next book.

I’m definitely hooked on this series. I love Finn. He may be the youngest son but in my opinion the bravest. The second book broke my heart. The family is definitely about to suffer. I just hope they are able to overcome and reunite again. Cub is extremely smart and brave. I’m glad he survived but I’m fearful of what awaits him.

  • It was difficult for me to get into this story at first. The language and structure wasn’t something I was used to. After the first chapter I was hooked. This story uses Scandinavian mythology in such a creative way. You get a bit of everything from Vikings, to witches. Definitely worth a read. Most are brave, strong and have such courage.

The Crown of Stones: Magic-Scars (The Crown of Stones Series) by C.L. Schneider – Review by Amber Howard

Magic-Scars (The Crown of Stones #2)Magic-Scars by C.L. Schneider
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is by far one of the best series I have ever read. The amount of creativity and originality that went into creating this book is amazing. I could not put it down. I fell asleep reading it and picked it up as soon as I opened my eyes. I rejoiced in the small victories and hurt when Troy experienced the losses. I felt a sense of pride as his character evolved and he embraced who he was (lineage) while maintaining who he wants to be (better than his father and all the leaders focused on being the most powerful). Especially after what he went through in prison. I was completely shocked with learning about the door opener Lirih. The characters are so greatly written that any loss felt like I lost them. I highly recommend this book. It’s full of action, steam, love, and magic.

I Loved You Yesterday: Book One in the Trading Heartbeats TrilogyI Loved You Yesterday: Book One in the Trading Heartbeats Trilogy by Julie Navickas
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book sucked me in immediately. The need to know what happened between the Duchess and Josh was overwhelming. I guessed the reason she left and I guessed why Austin seemed to have odd behavior. However, after everything was revealed about was still shocked at Austin’s behavior. I also felt like Josh forgave everyone unrealistically fast. I’m not even sure how he forgave any of the parties involved in hurting him. But he did and it made him a better man, he still wound up with the love of his life and by the end of the book everyone was happy. The book was written well, it gave me all the feels and emotions I look for in a good romance story. It ended on a good cliff hanger and I can’t wait to read book #2.

I absolutely loved this modern twist on Cinderella. Ashley has such a good heart. I rooted for her and Harry from the moment they met. Every time something happened that made it harder for them to be together I groaned lol. Ashley step family shocked me the most. The lengths they went through to get her trust was insane. I cannot wait to read the next installment. If you’re into fantasy, fairy tales, action with a bit of mystery then this book is definitely for you.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I loved this anthology. So many different authors with different writing styles and different stories to tell in one place. Two of my favorites were Clara’s story part 2 by C.A. King and Headliner by A.L. Morrow.

Clara’s story part 2 was bittersweet. Clara suffered so much tragedy in her life. She still kept a smile on her face and an open heart. My heart broke for her when her daughter was hurt. That accident affected her whole life including her marriage. By the end of this short story Clara found peace and happiness.

Headliner was pretty good as well. Heartbroken Jet is trying to save his career by working with Skye the Grammy winning song writer who unbeknownst to Jet is also trying to heal a broken heart. Sparks fly, great music is made, and maybe some hearts start healing. This is a MM romance. With lots of steam.

Ritual Obsession (Blood Obsession Book 1)Ritual Obsession by R.L. Dunn
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I have mixed feelings about this story. I was sucked in immediately with the tough female detective not taking crap from her newbie partner and her new partner also female wanting to prove herself and thrive at being a cop. Where it starts to get a little frustrating for me is with the different point of views and all of the relationships. Rose and Marco, Rose and Brian. Rose and Marco again. I don’t really feel like that added anything to the story. Then the situation with Bobbi and her ex while the actual case they are working on is playing out. There is no way after the events that took place she should have been allowed to go undercover to catch a guy that’s going around killing and raping women. I still can’t grasp my head around it. She’s still getting help for her personal situation which they all know about and still went with the plan? Other than those things I did enjoy the story. The villain is smart and clever. It frustrates me that he hasn’t been caught yet but that’s what kept me reading. That and the relationship between Bobbi and Max. I think Max is the most realistic character in the story. He’s not a Prince Charming. But he’s trustworthy, loyal, caring, and loving. He proves over and over again that he’s good for Bobbi. His reactions to different situations are realistic. Overall the book is a page turner. Once the story starts unfolding you won’t want to out the book down.

Blood Sector (V-Clan Book 1) by Lexi C. Foss – Review by Amber Howard

Blood Sector (V-Clan #1)Blood Sector by Lexi C. Foss
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I just finished this book and immediately had to post a review. This book is not for kids or the faint at heart. There are some intense scenes in here. With that being said I loved it from the first word. The chemistry between Kieran and Quinn is noticeable from the moment they meet. You can tell they are going to excite each and compliment one another and that they do. I was pleasantly surprised by how well they worked together once they got over their respective pride and fears. What I did not perceive was the truth behind Quinn’s motives for everything she did. Now back to the intense scenes. It took me a little bit to fully understand some of the terms used. But once I did everything fell into place. It was easy to visualize what was happening. The scenes were intimate, at times a bit crass, but enjoyable. Defining a good read. I can’t wait to read more by this author.

The Blood Prince was such an interesting read. The first few pages had me thinking the main character Leo was a bad guy. By the end of the book I had a completely different take on him. There was so much action, so much sorrow, and such a cliff hanger at the end. I am seriously hoping there is a sequel. The world Ayla created was so original and it drew me in immediately. I highly recommend this book to anyone that likes a bit of magic.

Stitch by Stitch is a creatively done mystery. Part of the story focuses on the main characters transition after a messy divorce. Between a bitter husband, money issues and a murder or main character finds that’s she’s stronger than she thinks. This work of fiction is filled with page turning twists, and action. I finished it in one sitting. Definitely a great read.

I loved everything about this book. The magic, mystery and sass from Evaline kept me on the edge of my seat. This story takes place in London during a time when women are nothing more than property and magic was frowned upon. There are so many levels to this story and I cannot wait until book 2.

The author did such a good job with writing a period piece. I felt like I was there. Isabel is quite the character. She is a lady in a sense of the word but she speaks up for herself and has quite the tongue. She is compassionate and brave. Although the marriage was arranged I believe Sir Williams perfect for her. Her Father did a good job choosing a husband for her. This book was easy to get lost in.

I forgot how much I loved the first book until I read this one.(Book 1.5). This book hooked me from the first line. Yarissa’s is a young elf hellbent on joining the elite branch after finishing her training. She believes that’s the best way to prevent the events of the first book (if you haven’t read it yet please do) from happening again. Through a mission asked of her by the king of Twilight himself, she learns that there may be others ways to serve and protect the kingdom. She learns more about her power, strength, and herself as the story unfolds. It’s action packed with a hint of romance. Definitely a good read. I cannot wait for book 2 to come out.

This story had me on the edge of my feet the entire time. So many twists and turns. I wish the story was a bit longer but I feel satisfied wish the ending. This story moves fast. There were so many red flags with Donald. From the first letter he sent her. I kept finding myself screaming at Isabella to not do certain things nor go with certain people. Tom is amazing. So glad he was around when she needed someone the most . I’m also happy that Isabella was able to move from the traumatic events and have exactly what she’s always dreamed of. I highly recommend giving this a try.

I’ve always been fascinated with Greek culture. It’s on my bucket list of places to see. This story gave me a insight to that. From the close knit family to the food I enjoyed every part of this story. Yiayiá is a firecracker. She added so much to the story. The recipes are amazing and I cannot wait to cook some of them up. I believe Melina is so strong. Not a lot off people could stay after what happened. Egypt reminds me so much of a relative of mine. Free spirited and full of spunk. It was so easy to get lost in this story. I highly recommend it.

Finding Starlight (Quimby Grove #1)Finding Starlight by Shannon Nikole
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

There’s so much to unpack in this story. I finished this story a few days ago but it’s still on my mind. Ellawyn is a sweetheart. She’s strong, brave and creative. The trauma she endures was enough to break her completely but she pushed on. Benji has to be one of the best characters ever. You can’t help but fall in love with the guy. His grandson Beckett is way different than I pictured him being when he’s introduced. He is a great match for Ellawyn. There were a lot of realistic events that I could relate too. It’s not just hearts and rainbows in this story. You’ll experience love, grief, fear, sadness and happiness right along with the characters. I cannot wait for book 2 to come out. The story was a tad predictable but I feel like most romance stories are. But it’s still a good read.

So this is the second book that I’ve read by this author. I actually forgot how much I enjoyed this authors writing. From page one I was immediately hooked. Chloe is such a selfless caring person. Even if it hurts herself to save others. I think she is also brave despite her fears of fighting. Sometimes brain is more powerful than brawn. Quietus is proof that people or in this case fae, can change. Together they make a great team. When humans threaten both the fae and mortal world will these two be able to put aside their differences to make it happen? The world the author has built us amazing. I can picture every detail in my mind while reading. It’s packed with action, romance, grief, surprise, and lots of conflict. I highly recommend this book to everyone.

As Close to PerfectAs Close to Perfect by Maria Jane
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was a cute story overall. My only qualm is that the Main character is revealed to be African American weirdly. Other than that I enjoyed the story. I loved feeling like I was on the journey with Bree. She’s a force of nature. Educated, in charge of her mind, body and beliefs. She’s a hard worker and she doesn’t settle for less than she deserves I appreciate that the characters were well rounded. Nate is a dream. He’s so patient and understanding. I felt he was genuine from their first encounter. With the couple navigating their differences and meeting a bit of resistance to their interracial relationship I thought the issues being brought up were realistic. The ending made me tear up a bit. I love happy endings. I highly recommend this book.

Sad that the series is over but what a way to end it! From book one there has been nothing but amazing characters and a fantastic storyline. The world the author built has been fantastic and the lead Character, Dahlia has been nothing but amazing. Learning that the world and rules she grew up with were wrong she set out to protect those who couldn’t protect herself. She put her life on the line again and again. The growth of this character has been amazing. It’s bittersweet to say goodbye. Please read the entire series so that you get the full effect. I’m so happy with the way the series ended and the Epilogue was a “Finally!” Moment. Thank you to the author for a fantastic world to escape to.

First and foremost I love anything to do with magic. I just knew I was going to love this story. It has a little bit of every topic I enjoy reading. Romance, thrills, magic, a dash of action and a sprinkle of mystery. The author does a phenomenal job painting a picture of the world they live in. The characters are beautifully written. I just wish Ember was less of a Damsel in distress and had come into her own a bit more. With that being said I still enjoyed the story and look forward to reading the next installment.

The Last Cabin Girl: A totally gripping thriller full of twistsThe Last Cabin Girl: A totally gripping thriller full of twists by Tom Swyers
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Wow. This story has so many levels to unwrap. First, it was well written. I was immediately drawn to Josie. Her complex character had me feeling sympathetic and questioning her sanity. I can honestly say I was still on the fence about her innocence until the last few chapters. When I began this book
I wasn’t sure how much I’d enjoy reading about a pandemic we are still living in. Although it played a role it was not the focus of this book. This story is filled with secrets, lies, greed and half-truths. At the center of all this is family. I did not expect a few of the twist. I had suspicions of a few people but the depth the betrayal goes is mind blowing. This was a creative yet thrilling way to bring awareness to something that affects all of us (no it’s not the virus) you’ll have to read to find out what it is though. I won’t ruin that for you. 😉

I liked this book way better than I thought I would. The beginning was a tad slow. But it definitely set up the background information for what turned out to be quite a read. I didn’t realize I had read the entire book until it said “The End”. The characters were well developed. The author did a great job reinforcing the small town feel. Evil sushi gives me syfy television vibe. Like on the level of sharknado. Entertaining but really out there. I also was concerned how zombie sushi would come in to play but the creativeness of the “zombies” surpasses what I imagined. I cannot wait to read book 2. Hopefully we get a few more answers. Book 1 left me needing more. Do your self a favor and read this book!
