Reunion in the Outback (Welcome to Bunya Junction Book 4) by Nicole Flockton – Review by Amber Poole

Reunion in the Outback (Welcome to Bunya Junction, #4)Reunion in the Outback by Nicole Flockton
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Just like the others, I read it in one sitting. This series is such a page turner. Although a work of fiction, it has so many topics I could relate to. There is a common theme among these books and that communication and trust. Although this one was about Yolanda and Michael repairing and restoring their relationship, communication played such an important role. Both let fear keep them from expressing themselves. Each assumes the other person felt a certain way or would react a certain way. I really enjoyed the direction this book took. It’s easy to fall in love but keeping it alive takes work.

Slash & Burn (Nite Fire, #4)Slash & Burn by C.L. Schneider
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The author has done it again! This book is filled with action, mystery, and suspense. Dahlia’s growth from book one is amazing. Her dedication to those who can’t protect themselves from the monsters infecting the city is commendable. Even when all the odds are against her, she tried to do the right thing. With each I installment of the series she uncovers more lies and secrets of her world and discovers events that will harm all worlds. This is definitely a page turner and I highly recommend it.

The Prisoner of the Dead (Dead World Book 1) by Megan Mackie – Review by Amber Poole

The Prisoner of the Dead: Zombie Thriller Dystopia (Dead World Book 1)The Prisoner of the Dead: Zombie Thriller Dystopia by Megan Mackie
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Okay! I now have a new favorite series. First off it’s not a usual end of the world book. These zombies are different. The world is different. Learning about the “Dogs” past was magnificent. Seeing the world through each of the main character’s eyes was even better. I’m on the fence with the ARKS beliefs and system. Furthermore if The ENDING WAS SO FRUSTRATING BUT IN A GOOD WAY! All I can say is that Thalia is a lot like her father. And I feel for Baron. I cannot not wait for the next installment. Just when I think a romance is brewing here comes life (the author) taking it away. Propter hominus I guess.

Love, love, love this story. Growing up one of my favorite stories was the Swan princess. To this day I love fairy tales and fantasy stories. This hit it on the nose. We have the evil with, the royal family that doesn’t listen( always the king), we have romance, violence, an evil curse, etc. I highly recommend this book. I hope there’s a sequel, a prequel, and anything else that could possibly happen.

I loved how this novel was set up. With the radio station and the recipes after Every few chapters. This book screamed hallmark movie and I am here for it. I hope it does become a movie. It’s so cute. Graham’s determination to open his bakery despite the backlash from his (ex)girlfriend and the uncertainty of the reception he’d receive in his childhood town, is special. I thought the premise of his bakery was cute too. Cookies and matches. This is actually the first book I’ve read of the Cupid’s cove series and now I’m gonna read them all. I love lighthearted, feel good romance novels.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the first book that I’ve read by this author. This prequel combo was beautifully written. Learning about Bella’s origin and how it got to Logan was an exciting and emotional journey. The McKenna women are strong and resilient. I now have to go read all of the other books. The author is great at creating a world you can get lost in. I highly recommend this book

Doctor in the Outback (Welcome to Bunya Junction, #3)Doctor in the Outback by Nicole Flockton
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the 3rd book in this series and it did not disappoint. I love seeing each of the Carruther siblings find love and happiness. At first I thought the predictability of the stories (by the end of the book we know who the next installment in the series will be about), would take away from my enjoyment but it doesn’t. That is actually my favorite part. These siblings seem to all be successful, good to each other and their community. Opening their hearts to other people romantically seems to be where their trouble lies. It was no different for Scott. I was so engrossed in his and Franceen’s story. Both characters grew so much and I’m so happy that they were able to come together and let love happen. I look forward to seeing where the next installment takes us with the Baby of the Carruther siblings Yolanda

Depending On YouDepending On You by Jessica Aiken-Hall
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I liked this story in general. There were some tough subjects mentioned. Things that happen to people that no one likes to talk about. I’m an emotional person so I teared up quiet a bit reading this book. Patti has to be one of the strongest people in the book. Her protection of Cate all those years is astonishing. This book is filled with secrets, twists, but also love. I’d do anything for my best friend. I’ll keep all of her secrets. And this book reflected that sentiment. The writing style of the author is easy to follow and it’s easy to keep track of all the characters. It was a good book. Give it a try.

Guardians of the Garden (Guardians Book I)Guardians of the Garden by Theresa Pocock
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

First off let me say that I have never read anything so unique as this story. I was hooked instantly. Both Miriam and Seth are fighting similar battles on opposite sides of the war. Do they follow their hearts? Is what they believe in the right thing? Will Seth save his sister? The smooth incorporation of magic and folklore is astounding, and talk about a cliff hanger

Just like book 1, I couldn’t put this one down. Every single page kept me wanting more. Seth’s journey continues to amaze me. I cannot wait to see what the next installment holds for the Guardians and the Jones’. I want to say so much more but I don’t want to spoil the story for anyone. If you are on the fence please give this book series a try. Side note, the cover art is simple yet beautiful.

This story is pretty interesting. On one hand we have an old murder mystery to solve, while a romance may be brewing. I enjoyed the vintage aspects of the book. The clothing, language and architecture seemed spot on. The author did a great job with their research. Despite the constant flashbacks, the story is very easy to read and follow along. It kept me busy entertained from page one.

The Billionaire’s Slave by Stacy-Deanne – Review by Amber Poole

The Billionaire's Slave by Stacy-DeanneThe Billionaire’s Slave by Stacy-Deanne by Stacy-Deanne
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Not gonna lie. When I first started reading I didn’t think I was going to like the book. I felt uncomfortable mostly because it was a genre I’ve never read before. Being an African American woman I thought, why would I want to read about slavery romanticized? I’m glad I kept reading.

At first I thought the male love interest was grooming the slave to well be a sex slave but watching their encounter develop to an actual relationship he was willing to risk his life and fortune for was intriguing. Penny is a doll. Experiencing her character growth was fantastic.

The intimate parts are great. Like super steamy. Need to douse my eyes with holy water and beg for forgiveness. I will never look at cucumbers or picnics the same again. Definitely detailed. Does contain swearing and topics that may make you uncomfortable. The characters are well developed and the language is spot on. Everything seemed authentic to the time period.
Overall it was an enjoyable book.

The Clockwork WitchThe Clockwork Witch by Michelle D. Sonnier
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I was immediately engrossed in this book. The pace was steady and entertaining from start to end. I finished it in one day. What a fascinating story about magic, witches, and the struggles that they face from those that don’t understand them to their own. This is my first book from this author but I plan on reading others. Her style of writing is easy to read and very imaginative. If you’re on the fence about the book, take a leap of faith and read it. I promise you won’t be disappointed.

I enjoyed this story so much more that the first one (that one I loved as well). Going on this journey with Arabella discovering who she is and growing into an adult is remarkable. The creativity behind the plot, the magic and it’s battle with science is awesome. It took me finishing the book to grasp what was happening on the cover art lol I cannot wait for the next installment to see where France takes our main character. I hope Arabella continues to stand her ground with her mother and allow her uniqueness to grow. I believe she is the balance that the world needs to survive. Without her the witches will die and the mundane will destroy themselves. Fingers crossed the next one will be out soon.

Although a little predictable this story was cute and a perfect romance story. I enjoyed the military aspect of it. Gina is a strong, caring and sweet soul. She was deal a tough card and learned to live and love again. The friendships she has with the other women is fantastic. I love reading about women supporting and caring for other women.
Bryce is a cute character. I loved his personality far more than his physical description. Although that was great too lol. It was a perfect story to read around valentines. It incorporates loss, love, ptsd, friendship, and understanding. A great feel good book.

I am a sucker for anything magical and this story sucked me right in from the first line. The author has an amazing way of painting images with her words. This is my first book by this author but it won’t be my last. Not only is this story about magic, it’s also a murder mystery. There were twist and turns everywhere. Things aren’t what they appear to be. What you learned as a child isn’t always the truth. This book was an amazing read. I highly recommend it. The cover art is always beautiful.

Smoke & Mirrors (Nite Fire #3)Smoke & Mirrors by C.L. Schneider
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I love this series so much. Nite is such an awesome “person”. She tried her hardest to protect the innocent from the creatures of her world. She growing so much from book 1. She’s learning to Trust as her powers grow.
Each book surprises with the type of creatures that get introduced. Book 3 is filled with a few surprises, lots of action and emotions. The ending of this book surprised me a great deal I cannot wait until the next installment to see how it plays out. Creed is my favorite character. He’s tough on the outside but caring and emotional on the inside. Life events have made him hard but there’s still a soft spot in him.

I was so excited to be back in the Fae Realm again. Can you imagine being so young and so much resting on your shoulders? This story is filled with love, heartbreak, bravery and strength. All in the name of what’s best for the kingdom. I enjoyed the sequel just a as much if not more than the first. I cannot wait to see what’s Next for Titania. This author has easily become a favorite.

Forbidden MoonForbidden Moon by C.R. Robertson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I picked 4 stars but it’s more like 4.5. I enjoyed the way the battle with the Hellspawn ended. I loved the introduction of new characters and the goodbye to others. However I don’t feel like the part about the elemental witches was concluded enough. It seemed like it was going to be a bigger deal than it was. Even with that being said this was a great book and I’m sad that the story is over. Oh and the cover art for all three books is gorgeous.

Forbidden Mate (The Shadow Chronicles Book 2) by CR Robertson – Review by Amber Poole

Forbidden MateForbidden Mate by C.R. Robertson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the second book in the series. I loved it! It’s fast paced. You learn so much about all of the characters that were mentioned in the first book. There are quite a few surprises. The war between the vampires, Lycans, and hellspawn is insane. I’ve never read a book like this before. The intimate moments are decent. My only complaint is that at this point Tasha should know Levi’s feelings. The constant doubt she has kind of gets tiresome. Luckily Levi is a patient guy. Radar is still my favorite. He’s such an adorable guy. I love his technology expertise and his hobby.

Forbidden Wolf (The Shadow Chronicles Book 1) by CR Robertson – Review by Amber Poole

Forbidden WolfForbidden Wolf by C.R. Robertson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I enjoyed the theme of the book. Forbidden love between two different species and the battles they face by being together. I thought the story was very original. I didn’t like how frequent some phrases were used.

The characters were developed nicely. Tasha is a good person to her core. She sees the world differently and has faith in what it could be. Levi is intense but in a good way. He knows what he wants and will do everything in his power to make sure he gets it.

My favorite character is actually Radar. I hope we get a spin off series in the future. Maybe he finds his mate or the creature he’s been searching for.

The pace of the book was medium to fast. There’s parts that go a tad slow but it’s definitely a page turner.

Apocalypse Thoughts (The Pox Series Book 5) by Kendra Griffin – Review by Amber Poole

Apocalypse ThoughtsApocalypse Thoughts by Kendra Griffin
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This isn’t your typical end of the world book. It’s filled with humor and teenage angst. It’s harnessed with pain, laughter, and hope. I was hooked from the first line.
The main characters are developed beautifully. Kella is stronger than she realizes and I love Huck. Stargazer is one of the sweetest people I’ve read about. She’s smart, brave, and a fighter. Finch is Interesting. Like a father figure but at the same time crushable. The story made me reflect on my own skills and how’d I’d manage a pandemic of this level. The last chapter had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I didn’t even realize I was at the end of the book. I cannot wait for another book. I need more.

Exiled South by Harriet Cannon – Review by Amber Poole

Exiled SouthExiled South by Harriet Cannon
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book touched me on such a deep level. As an African American woman with a multicultural family that I’m still learning about, going in Lizbeths journey with her resonated with me. What I enjoyed most is that she didn’t shy away from her families past. Although that would have been the easiest route. Family trauma is hard to repair and it’s not easy. What touched me even more was learning about the Author. I am so impressed with this book.

Both sides of my family have ties to the south. Both sides are multicultural. A lot of our history is lost and there are many questions that may never be answered. After reading this story I’m going to keep trying. Maybe I’m my discoveries I can bring some healing and understanding to my family as well.

This book read like a movie. Captured my interest from page one. It’s action packed, full of mystery and murder and nothing or no one is what it appears to be. Grace is quite the character. She’s tough but has a soft side for the truth. I thought the plot was clever. From character names to the story details. Definitely recommend.

I love detective stories. I enjoy trying to figure things out with them. Top that with the pain and past Lexi tried to bury deep within herself and the trouble it was causing her with work, I was hooked. I needed the bad guy to get caught just as much as she did. As a parent it was rough hearing about the cases. But it made me connect more to the story. Despite the real reason Xavier was transferred to Lexi’s department I kinda hoped a romance would bud. This story definitely keeps you interested. I also like some of the references that let you know it takes place in current time.

Cora Lee is such a doll. Sweet, caring, hard working with a good head on her shoulders. Jace is everything you could want in a guy. Strong, provider, protector, good morals and family oriented. I fell in love with most of the characters. This story is an easy read, joyful, exciting, and romantic. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series. I wasn’t sure how much I’d like a historical romance but This was such a great book. I didn’t want to put it down.
