Obedience (Ties That Bind Book 1) by Liza Snow – Review by Jenni Bishop

ObedienceObedience by Liza Snow
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

3.5 stars
Forbidden fruit and all that in this dark student teacher romantic suspense story. The story is original and intriguing as Liza takes us a look into the world of Cirque du Lys and some bondage and the beautiful art of rope binding like Shibari.
The story is told in dual POV which gives you a better understanding of the characters and where they are coming from. Ties That Bind is full of heat and suspense. This sexy age gap new adult romance is full of emotions, with lots of angst and plenty of chemistry! The age gap is significant and the communication between them was the cause of many problems due to dark secrets.
She is plagued by a childhood tragedy and has always longed for something that for so long has been out of her reach. Now it is all in front of her and what she doesn’t know is their lives have been intertwined and there is a past that may just ruin them.
He knows it’s wrong, but he is drawn in like a moth to a flame. But with a past that is full of secrets that should never be exposed between them it is unlikely that love conquers all.
We are left with questions and a cliff hanger which I hope we get answers to in the next book.

Amy’s Rebellion (Gemstone Massacre Book 1) by Julia Goldhirsh – Review by Jenni Bishop

Amy's RebellionAmy’s Rebellion by Julia Goldhirsh
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

4 stars
Amy’s Rebellion is an intriguing New Adult dark fantasy story. It is the first book in the Gemstone Massacre Series and an enemies to lover’s romance. It is also the first book I have read by this author. I was not aware there is a prequel, War of the Twin Swords until after I finished Amy’s Rebellion. I would say reading the prequel is a must as it tells the story of Opal the clans and the war. There is much to be learned.
There is so much to keep the reader engaged with drama, action, and suspense, magic, magical lands, friendship, enchantress’s, assassins, gemstones, familiars, seers, evil intensions, a corrupt Magic Council, shifters.
Julia has given us mythologies based around Merlin and King Arthur with a new twist on Excalibur. It is a retelling of sorts that is unique with a plot is very well thought out. There are unexpected twists and vivid details. Julia has included a cast of different cultures and LGBTQ+ characters with strong FMC’s. Sometimes keeping track of them all got a bit difficult.
All in all, this was an enjoyable read, and I will see where the next book in the series takes us.

Yeti Left HomeYeti Left Home by Aaron Rosenberg
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

4.5 stars
In this urban fantasy Yeti Left Home Aaron has given the reader a paranormal thriller that is original and humorous. This light-hearted quirky tale will have you laughing at times. Aaron is a new author to me so obviously this is the first of his work I have read. How have I not come across him before? I really enjoyed it. It’s my kind of oddity, quirky and all that.
Yes, the Yeti Left Home is right up my alley. Aaron is a man after my own heart. It reminds me of lots of my favourite supernatural goodness TV series all rolled into one. There are too many to name them all but Sanctuary, Grimm, Haven, Warehouse 13 and I’ll even throw in Eureka to name a few with their oddness, strangeness and let’s not forget the quirkiness and bizarreness.
Wylie Kang isn’t your typical mystical beast. This Yeti loves nothing more than to chill at his cabin by a lake. When a hunter shows up in his neck of the woods Wylie runs and discovers a whole new world for himself and friendships. When Wylie comes across the hunter again in the Big City what will he do?
I hope to see more from Aaron. I will go check out other stories by him.

Euphoric Wonderland is Ryan Becker’s seminal literary work which was largely inspired by the relationship he has with his parents, both of whom are poets in their own rights and words. His father is a self-taught classical pianist, as well as an avid Shakespeare fan and aficionado. Those two elements of the fine arts were instilled in Ryan at an early age and were quickly absorbed through his father’s reading to him about famous musicians and writers.

As an avid collector of vinyl records, upon hearing the music of The Beatles for the first time, specifically their Abbey Road album, Ryan knew his destiny was to write. “Every step of this life’s journey is a learning experience,” proclaims Mr. Becker. He further adds, “The Beatles taught me how not to have hate in my heart, why we must help people in need, and to never hesitate to openly express my feelings in any situation.”

Ryan credits his even-tempered, soft-spoken mother for his development as a human being. He tries to emulate her cool-under-pressure manner as well as her kind and empathetic heart, which she shares with anyone in need. It is those characteristics he’s inherited that allow him to express himself through his writing.

Ryan’s childhood carried with it some undeniably emotional bumps and bruises, explaining “Everyone has struggles, and many have their inner demons. The only way for me to exorcize them is by taking them out of my brain and putting them down on paper.”

Writing can be a wonderful escape from reality as well as a fantastic way of feeling comfort within one’s true reality.

Watching reruns of Smallville on repeat, Ryan asserts that the character of Clark Kent, portrayed by Tom Welling, has taught him a few things about growing up. For example, it helped him learn how to speak and interact better with others—trust in people who treat him right and never disregard someone who has his best interests at heart.

It is why he proclaims, “Don’t ever let anyone take a torch to your dreams. Use that fire to motivate you to achieve your greatness, no matter in which arena you might be endeavoring!”

Cassandra

Growing up, I was mesmerized by a man soaring the skies.

The greatest silk aerialist in the world, Chandler Moreau.

The day before my parents died, they took me to see his circus, and it was then I knew my fate was sealed.

I would do everything in my power to perform with them one day.

To perform with him.

Little did I realize, he would be far more than I’d ever imagined him being.

Far more than just a mentor.

He was a man I didn’t want to live without.

And someone I wanted to keep safe from a past that seemed to keep following me.

Chandler

My entire career, I’d been waiting for the right student to take under my wing.

A protégé with whom I could share my lifelong journey in the circus.

Little did I know it would be Cassandra Blackstone.

A woman who’d grown up admiring me from afar.

I never intended to fall in love with the student I was supposed to protect—from myself and the demons that lurked in my shadows.

But sometimes fate has other plans.

My grandfather’s taunting words still linger.

Mieux vaut plier que rompre.

Adapt and survive.

They weren’t just his adage but also unmistakably true.

A reminder that Cassandra and my shared history seemed to intertwine us more than the silks we’d spent our lives mastering ever could…

Right in Front of You (Morris Valley Gang Book 1) by Brooke May – Review by Heidi Sturgess

Right in Front of You: Volume One: Brinley & Adrian (Morris Valley Gang Book 1)Right in Front of You: Volume One: Brinley & Adrian by Brooke May
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I must just start off by saying this is my favourite by far ! I’ve read a few of Brooke’s books but Brinley and Adrian are my favourite ❣️📚

Brinley lived in Morris Valley for a while and she had a tight friend group , they were more like sisters than friends but her family moved away and the youngsters promise to always be in contact and bless their hearts they do so it’s only natural for Brinley to head home , to her safety net when things with her stalker get a bit much …..

My first introduction to Adrian had me in stitches and reminds me of my own farmer husband who is allergic to coming into town and having to pay for coffee when the perfect cup can be brewed at home 🤣 doesn’t say much and isn’t a fan of change so I just fell in love with Adrian at first “ read” ❣️😉

Adrian is loved in his little town but he’s also known to be the grump and most want to set him up with a woman especially the older ladies , like Polly 🤣 but his friends also try with disastrous results like Delilah but again dearest Polly was his saving grace 🌸🤣🙈

Adrian is a hard worker and loves his family ranch with a passion , his dad and him live a rather quiet life until Brinley comes along and brightens it with her sunshine ❣️

Brinley is home to breathe and hide from her stalker but she’s also considering putting her Olympic Gold Medal for shooting to good use , if settling down in a small town, she can give proper gun training to folks or have an upgraded range , she has options but watching her find love was a gift❣️

Adrian let’s Brinley come and “ hide out “ on the farm and instead of a wallflower he gets someone that loves to work the land like he does and watching things unfold between was a real treat and if ever there was a perfect match it would be these 2 ❣️

Clover, Lexy , Lilly, Julia , Mina , Eliza are the best friends a girl could ask for and their bonds are unfailing , these friends made want to climb into my book and join in in their antics , fun , laughter , tears and life ❣️

Nash, Gage , Gentry and Beckett are good guys and real characters that keep and eye on Adrian so they’re all stoked when their friend friend finds his HEA

A read my heart needed ❣️📚

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

  1. This book was really good. This supernatural world was extremely well written and immersed you immediately. First introducing you to Connor and then to Niamh is captivating. Conner story is heartbreaking at first and then you begin to see the world through his eyes. Niamh is in a way trapped in a gilded cage, only to be let out when she is needed to perform. They meet and sparks immediately fly. When an entity comes and takes Niamh away and takes everything of hers leaving nothing but an empty slate, Conner is devastated and will do anything to get her back. The introduction of other characters was well done and I want to know more about their story! I can’t wait to see if this author will expand on the world she has created! I look forward to reading more books by this author!

This was such a fun read! As an adult, I thoroughly enjoyed this read. It kept my attention and I felt like I was easily immersed in this world. The written was done excellently and I didn’t feel like it was too immature for someone older to read, as I have with other YA reads. This is something someone who’s 10 can enjoy as well as someone who is 30. I highly recommend this book and this author.

Breach of Trust is the eighth book in The Madeline Dawkins Series and is a wonderfully written Mystery/Crime that once you start reading it’s extremely hard to put down. Im a huge fan of not only this author but this series is mu favorite and I am definitely putting on my list of favorites to reread. If you haven’t already started this series I recommend reading this series in order although they can be read as standalones. I’m a sucker for reading series in order you get to really know the characters and what’s been going on. Madeline and Mike are back and three new cases to investigate. This will definitely keep them busy. There are a few twists and turns I didn’t see coming and found myself on thr edge of my seat trying to figure out what was going to happen next. I highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next you won’t be disappointed that’s for sure. I can’t wait to read more from this Author.

God of Fire by Helen Steadman

Narrated by Christopher Swift

Four Stars

This is the first book I have listened to by Helen Steadman. Although I usually don’t read/listen to Greek Mythology this story really captured my attention. It was an entertaining story and I will definitely be looking for more stories from this author.

The narration was also, a new to me narrator, Christopher Swift. I truly loved the way he brought the characters to life. This was a great way to start a new genre.

Undying LightUndying Light by Aurora Wildey
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Surviving a robbery/attack at work, Kaela finds herself in a safehouse of sorts. The man who saved her is not only the district attorney prosecuting the case but also a werewolf. The man who is harboring her is an undying, something akin to a vampire who feels a pull to Kaela. Being pulled in different directions, Kaela just wants to get out of this alive. Each of the other two men also have their own motives in helping her.
Opinion
This book is not a quick read. It is one you will want to sit and think about while reading it. Going from chapter to chapter, I found my brain trying to piece together what was happening and what would happen. It truly was a fascinating book that I enjoyed immensely. The book did leave in a bit of a cliffhanger without a resolution to one of the issues that played a minor role in the plot but could potentially be a major problem. I can see this particular issue playing a minor roll in several more books until it comes to a culminating point.
This book is worth a reread, especially right before the next book in the series is released.

This is an interesting and unique story that caught my attention from the moment I read the blurb. I wanted to know what story was going to be about and who the characters would be. I enjoyed watching how v things played out and really getting to know these characters. As the first book in the series I think its sets a good premise of course what is to come.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Other People’s Money was the first book I have read by this author. It is the 7th book in the Madeline Dawkins series, however can be enjoyed as a stand alone. There is references to the past, but with enough detail that I didn’t feel like I was missing important details. It was a pretty good mystery, that did not reveal all until the very end. The characters are well developed and the story was a steady pace. Madeline and Mike are married and private investigators. They are debating expansion, after a busy period, when they are landed with 3 cases at once. They have 2 missing women, and a possible gold digger after a friend’s widowed father. I liked how the cases wound together, but I didn’t like the ending. It was not what I expected, and I felt it wrapped up suddenly. Over all, it was a decent book that kept me engaged, and I would read more in the series.

I really love this author and his saucy reads so when I saw this trilogy I couldn’t wait to get started. As usual his writing didn’t disappoint. The three stories contained within this trilogy all had different tropes but were short and sexy reads.

The Baby Sitter – this story may not be everyone’s cup of tea but I did enjoy it and whilst I 100% don’t agree with cheating it is at the end of the day a story. There was a lot of passion and chemistry between the characters and although a short read – it certainly wasn’t short on anything else! This story does led into the next one so don’t worry if you feel it finished a little abruptly!

The Boss’ Daughter – in this story we meet again and see him continue with his forbidden love interests. This time his Boss’ Daughter who we briefly meet in the first book. After Richard receives a visit from Rebecca we see Scarlett let him in on a secret of her own!

Menage A Trois – The third book in the trilogy sees Richard’s secrets exposed – but Alice has a secret of her own for him! This third book definitely had a lot of passion and chemistry going on. The story is well written from the passion side and it is completely believable.

Overall the three stories are good, they are definitely packed with some pretty steamy scenes and they should be read in order!

Notebook Mysteries ~ Suspicions (Notebook Mysteries Book 5) by Kimberly Mullins – Review by Carrie Reed

Notebook Mysteries ~ Suspicions (Notebook Mysteries book #5)Notebook Mysteries ~ Suspicions by Kimberly Mullins
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Incredible story! Emma is a wonderful model to other women and girls. She is strong, independent, fierce but she is also caring, sympathetic, and compassionate. She doesn’t need a man to help her but recognizes when it’s welcomed. I could go on and on about Emma, she’s awesome. This story broke my heart in regards to the children, and seeing Emma and her team solve the entire case was so genius. There are three different cases in this book and the author does such a wonderful job of moving from one onto the next. The three cases are all so cleverly thought out and solved, the second case with the three women and the one man they all hate was my favorite to watch unfold. I have a strong feeling we are not done with see John Harden either. Wonderful book, I could go on and on with praise.

Savage Start (Hidden Valley Elite Prequel) by Isla Vaughn – Review by Bethany Rollins

In this quick prequel, we meet Riley, who appears to be a con artist alongside her mom. We aren’t given much about their background but perhaps the series will enlighten us more. Riley meets Cole at a party where they share a quick yet heated kiss. Although this is a fast read, the author was able to lay out the groundwork for what to expect with the series and give us some info about our main characters. Looking forward to seeing what occurs in the first book of this series.

With Fire and Sword (Thunder On The Moor Book 4) by Andrea Matthews – Review by Kerry Carr

With Fire and Sword (Thunder on the Moor, #4)With Fire and Sword by Andrea Matthews
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the 4th book in The Thunder On The Moors series. I really recommend reading these books in order as the story continues through them and you would miss out on a lot of the characters backstories and history which may make it a bit of a confusing read.

This is a historical time travelling romance. I love the author’s attention to details in the time period and the descriptions and writing reflect that period which makes you feel like you are experiencing it first hand. Being a historical story there is a lot of adventure and danger as the rival clans are constantly at war with one another.
Will and Maggie have finally escaped back to the twentieth century. After everything they have been through they feel they could finally be together and be safe. However that isn’t the case. When Dylan finds a problem in the fabric of time he finds a way to contact Will and Maggie to tell them they need to return as them not doing so would change both time periods and it wouldn’t be for the better.

There are several problems though. 1stly the amulet they use to travel is out of stone so it doesn’t work anymore, 2nd they don’t know what exactly they need to do to fix the fabric of time and save both time periods and finally what will happen if they return. The whole reason they left was because it wasn’t safe for them so will returning prove to be a huge mistake?

The author’s writing is amazing and as a reader you feel transported in time, following the characters as they try to find the balance between doing what’s right and finally having their happy ever after.

The author’s attention to details really makes you feel like you are back in 16th Century in the Scottish borders. I loved this even more as that’s where I currently live so it was nice to imagine going back to that time period.

Overall the story is fast paced and engaging. You won’t be able to put it down until you find out if Maggie and Will can fix the tear in the fabric of time.

C.A. King has done it again! Another great written book. The details and world building is on point. This book was a medical romance type of read. This book had me sitting on the edge of my couch wanting me to know what happened next. It will definitely grab your attention from the very beginning. This book was also a page turner for me.

Little Red, the Detective (Science Folktales #5) by Lois Wickstrom – Review by Angela Hayes

Little Red, the Detective: a science folktale (Science Folktales)Little Red, the Detective: a science folktale by Lois Wickstrom
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

3 Stars

Little Red, the Detective is the fifth book in the Science Folktales series by Lois Wickstrom. This is an illustrated children’s fantasy story- a reimagining of the classic fairytale, Little Red Riding Hood- where Maureen (aka Red) does a little investigating to find out what happened to her Grandma, with a little adventure along the way.
The story has some mystery, investigation, drama, lessons, science, a wily wolf, Red’s missing Grandma, cookies, flowers, knitting, fingerprinting, and animal control- this also has a bit of a ‘darker’ tone than some of Ms. Wickstrom’s other children’s books.
Again, this is one of her books where the internal illustrations are not of the same quality or style of the cover image- as the internal illustrations are a little more naïve, simplistic, bland, and somewhat boring…. which was a little bit of a letdown. They just don’t grab and hold your attention like the cover image does, so I feel like they let the story down. I think in a more whimsical style story those types of illustrations might work- but they missed the mark here, especially considering the ‘darker’ tone of the story too.
The Science Folktales Series contains (so far):
-Chicken Little (Book #1)
-Huff…Puff…Grind! The Three Little Pigs Get Smart (Book #2)
-Fee, Fi, Fo, Grow! The Real Magic of the Beans (Book #3)
-Goldilocks and the Six Simple Machines (Book #4)
-Little Red, the Detective (Book #5)
-Just One More Egg (Book #6)
-The Dwarves’ Dilemma (Book #7)
-Saving the Gingerbread House (Book #8)

As you can see, there’s lots to explore in this series- plenty of adventures to take, and things to learn along the way.

Happy reading…
