Whisper by Kay Ross is an unforgettable read! This book delivers a completely unique twist on the fantasy genre, with a protagonist like no other. Whisper, a sentient curse, is fascinating, providing a perspective that’s as introspective as it is entertaining, and yes, sometimes even funny. Despite a large cast of characters, following the story through Whisper’s view makes everything easy to keep track of. The plot keeps you hooked, with plenty of twists and a deeper exploration of magic, mortality, and loyalty that leaves you thinking long after the last page.
The world-building is exceptional, pulling you into a realm where combining magic is forbidden, and curses are feared. Watching Whisper navigate this society, grappling with its own dark beginnings and the moral dilemmas it faces, is incredibly compelling. Ross has created a one-of-a-kind story that I couldn’t put down, filled with memorable characters, an engaging storyline, and a protagonist with both humor and heart. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a fresh and captivating fantasy read!
