The inter-weaving of genres is awesome in this book. The fact that the male and female main characters have history is cool. Brynn is trying to get her life together after a divorce and Levi is the captain of a Hockey team. The development of characters and story line was well planned and really written well. I really enjoyed the Cabin photoshoot. That had to be my most favorite part. I am a new reader to this author but I will definitely be picking up book 2 when it comes out.

This is the first book I’ve read by the author. It won’t be my last by the author either. I can’t wait until the next book comes out. I hope to see more of Brynn and Levi. Power Play is the first book in the Astoria Bay Thunder Series.
Levi is making his dreams come true by playing pro hockey. The team gets fans to come down to shoot a goal and Mac is one of them. With the help of his teammates is he going to be able win her over? The quote I chose for Levi is: “If you boys are done stripping, maybe we can get to practice. No one is going to buy a fucking calendar from a team that doesn’t win. Unless you plan on asking the Kodiaks to come pose with you?”
Brynn is newly divorced and starting her dream. Only it’s not as easy as she thought it was going to be and she runs into an old flame. Love me a good sports romance. Also a second chance and forced proximity romance.
I really enjoyed the role reversal that this author uses: I usually see the female as the one who knows who the other person is and is the one going after their love interest, but here Levi is the one who realizes who Brynn is and is the pursuer.
I liked that there was still a buildup of the chemistry between the characters rather than a “I used to love you as a kid, now you’re here, lets fall into bed” situation.
I love the sexy calendar fundraiser aspect to this story. Of the ones I’ve read that does something like that I found that this author did it the best. Also, I want that cabin in the woods for myself! Maybe Levi can make a guest appearance ;-P
I absolutely adore the side characters, with Tia and Bridger being the most prominent (oh the tension there!). I can’t wait to read their story (book 2) and how they find their HEA (this is romance, so a HEA— Happy Ever After— is expected). I also adored Xander and his gentleness. I can’t wait to read about him.
This book does mention characters from another book, and whets the appetite for that story., but that one is technically not part of this series. As this is the first book I’ve read from this author I’ll certainly be adding that to my TBR list.

I love the way the stories are interwoven and will be a part of each other’s stories. The author is amazing at making you feel each character’s emotion. The details in the descriptions paint vivid pictures, like the photo shoot in the shower or with the lumberjack! Jump into this series now! Don’t wait. It is going to be one helluva ride!!

I loooved this story so much! Brynn and Levi couldn’t be anymore perfect. I’m so happy they got thrown together for a second chance and it was a wild ride to be on. I loved everyone from the Astoria Bay Thunder team and I’m so excited to read all the stories we’ll get from it. This book is one that you will ABSOLUTELY LOVE! From reading the first chapters that introduced us to Levi and Brynn to the very end of their story I was entranced. Levi and Brynn have a past together and do not recognize each other when they meet on the ice for the first time. Throughout the book, Levi and Brynn are trying to fight the attraction they once had for one another. This amazing book had many twists and turns in their story and the ending is not what I had expected at all! I cannot wait to read many more books in this series and from this author!

This book is book one of the series. I absolutely loved this second chance romance!
Brynn and Levi have a past. Because of Brynn’s meddling mother, they went their separate ways. Now post divorce, Brynn’s life is a lot different than she thought it would be. After setting her dreams aside for far too long Brynn decides it’s time she do something for herself. On a whim, she wins tickets to a hockey game, never imagining coming face to face with Levi. Will Brynn and Levi be able to use this second chance to their advantage or is the past too much to bare?
I really enjoyed these characters. Brynn is resilient and I really enjoyed that about her. Her whole life changes and she just rolls with it as tough as it is. I really enjoyed her and Levi together as well. Can’t wait to read more of this series.

Power Play is the first book in the Astoria Bay Thunder Series. This is a Second Chance Hockey Romance that once you start reading you won’t want to put down till you finish. The characters are relatable and fully developed and the authors style of writing simply amazes me. This second chance romance had my emotions all over the place . Levi is the Captain of a local Professional Hockey team and Brynn is recently divorced and trying to get her life back. These two had a summer romance years ago and now he wants to win her back,she’s the one that got away and he never stopped loving her. Can they reunite? Is it to late for them to have a relationship? The chemistry between these to wow! I highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next. This is definitely a great start to this series I can’t wait to read more from this Author.

I couldn’t put this book down! This book is amazing, it’s romantic, heart wrenching, sweet, steamy and funny all at once. Levi and Brynn were the love of each other’s lives, but a series of misunderstandings tore them apart. Ten years passed and neither could shake the other from their mind or their hearts and fate brought them back together. The chemistry between them is undeniable even when they haven’t realized that know each other, there’s that pull between them. I loved watching them discover each other again. There are so many parts that made me laugh out loud, swoon and tear up. This book is so good that I can’t wait to read the next in this series. There are some amazing characters introduced that I can’t wait to learn more about!

This was a good four star read. After divorce Brynn is starting life over with her cat and following her dream of photography. She ends up doing a job at a very ritzy home where she meets someone who will bring her in the path of someone from her past.
She also wins a radio contest to go to the hockey game. This is where she see’s Levi and he realizes who she is and old sparks start to fly. With a twist she ends up shooting a calendar for the team at Levi’s cabin. Will this finally be the time for them to reconnect? What will happen when the truth finally comes out?
Overall this was a good read. Brynn had me LOL with her thoughts, she was quirky and down to earth. Levi was of course the hot hockey player who wanted his first love back. All I can say about this book it WOW! I am personally always a sucker for a second chance romance story and while this was my first one involving sports it definitely exceeded my expectations. This book is full of so much emotion, love, heartache and so much more that I just simply couldn’t put it down. Brynn has moved to a new city after her divorce, she is a strong beautiful woman who isn’t going to let another man stand in her way of her dream. Levi is strong and handsome, and while he’s from the wrong side of the tracks what will happen when his path crosses with Brynn? Will she allow herself to love him again? A good start with this first book in the series that is a second-chance contemporary hockey romance tale. I enjoyed the wit and antics from his teammates who offered an ongoing supply of commentary and had me laughing. There are characters that you will fall in love with and others you just want to strangle. A kid from the wrong side of the track who falls in love but finds her again after many years of heartbreak. Insecurities, heartache, and doubts, not to mention walls built to protect and it is a hard road to rekindle a fated love, or is it? Sizzling chemistry and the back-and-forth banter with these two leads to an interesting tale that had me immersed in their world.

This was a fun one to get lost in and devour! I have never had the chance to experience this author before but I can tell you it won’t be my last that is for sure! I just loved this steamy and sassy read and I had no idea what I was going to get when I picked it up. Normally I love sports romances and the cover and blurbs with a few teasers sold me when they crossed my timeline. I knew I had to see what the outcome would be after Brynn smacks Levi in the nuts lol. I was not disappointed at all. This book really dove so much more into matters of the heart. I found myself laughing out loud, oohing and ahhing at the sweetness at times, finding it smexy hot and smoldering, and downright angst at others. It had all the pieces I needed for the perfect romance and really it kept me up way past my bedtime because I just needed to know how these two would play out and if they would get the happily ever after. I am excited that this will be the beginning of a series so there will be more to come from Astoria Bay Thunder. I will for sure be back for more!

A sweet romance with a bit of steamy thrown in. Levi and Brynn had good chemistry with some amusing banter. The side characters definitely add good value in this story too. I enjoyed how easy this was to read and follow, worth a read if you like second chance sports romances. I will definitely be checking out other books from this author.

This is such an entertaining story. A second chance romance that is funny and well written I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The characters really were amazing. They had obvious chemistry from the moment they met. I found myself laughing more than once as the story progressed. The author really made it easy to engage with the story. These are the kind of characters that it is so easy to root for as you want them to work things out. This was a brilliant book that I would highly recommend.

This is the great first book in a new hockey series. I had never previously read any of this author’s work but I love a hockey romance so decided to give it a chance. I’m so glad that I did because I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more in the series. It is a second chance romance which is also a trope that I really enjoy reading so that’s another plus point for this book. I was pulled into the story from the very first chapter but was confused by one thing. I was sure this story was a bout Brynn and Levi, so why was I reading about Brynn and the very hot Bridger? I even went back to the synopsis to check. All was soon revealed. If only I had given the story a real chance to get started. I really enjoyed reading Brynn and Levi’s story. Both are really great characters to read and I could have read about them for hours. One thing I loved about this book is the cast of secondary characters: Brynn’s very feisty best friend Tia and the rest of Levi’s team mates. Their interactions make for some very fun and enjoyable reading. I laughed a lot while reading this book. I really can’t wait to read Tia and Bridger’s story which comes next and then whatever else the author has in store for the Astoria Bay Thunder hockey boys.

What an amazingly fun story! I laughed and shook my head at the antics in this one. The story is fast paced and easily kept me turning pages. The characters were written very well. They had growth and changes throughout plus they made me laugh. Levi and Brynn are well matched. My only little issue is I wishes something would have been in here about how her mom and Brynn reacted now. It was kinda glossed over.
There is a lot of time spent getting to know the team. It made this filled with humor as they are just boys in mens bodies. I enjoyed getting to know Bridger and his family and can’t wait for his story because…well…Tia is a fireball! He is going to have his hands full with her!
Overall I really enjoyed this and I look forward to more in this series.

Devoured this book in one day, and stayed up past my bedtime to do it!
Brynn is finally free and able to live her dreams. She is starting a new chapter in her life and pursuing her passion! She soon finds out, however, that its not as easy as she thought. A chance encounter with a hockey start has her starring her past right in the face, and facing old heartache. Can she move past her pain? Will she make her dreams a reality? Levi has been through a bunch, yet he has been able to channel it and make something of himself. When he has an opportunity to fix his one big regret, will he do it? Will she let him?
The instant chemistry between the two MCs is what romance novels are made of. The story was everything you would expect from a romance, yet unpredictable making it so that you absolutely left this world behind and were transfixed by their story. There is a found family here, strong bonds, and passion! Its a perfect book to curl up with and escape to dreams of true love and fated souls. Tia is likely my favorite character because I love her no-nonsense attitude! I also really enjoyed Bridger and I am so excited to get more of him and Tia.
I read this book not knowing there was a prequel story, but I did not get lost at all. Just when I finished, I thought about how great it would be to get the backstory of those particular characters, and BAM! They have their story, so I am definitely picking that up! haha.
If you are looking for a romance story that is relatively short and easy to get lost in, give this one a shot!

I absolutely loved this story about second chances. Levi and Brynn are an amazing couple. This story is what second chance love is supposed to be like. I couldn’t put it down. If you want a quick romance story that is an amazing read, I recommend this story.

Power Play is the first book in the Astoria Bay Thunder series by C.J. Cartwright. This is a second chance sports romance with emotion, angst, drama, chemistry, sizzle, banter, heartache, and new beginnings. It is the first book that I have read from this author, so I was excited to see what the story would be like. Levi and Brynn have a history which left them both broken-hearted. Levi went on to find success as a star hockey player in those ten years, while Brynn is looking for a fresh start after her recent divorce. When fate reintroduces them, the sparks between them reignite- but will the pain of their past keep them from taking a second chance on love? It is worth the read to find out. I loved Levi immediately, but it took a while or me to connect with Brynn. I think her mother needed a good serve of humble pie though. There were parts of the story that I would like to have known more about or see happen, such as her mother getting the karma due to her, or finding out more about Brynn’s ex and the divorce etc- but not because the story was lacking in any way, just because I am nosy lol. I have become an Astoria Bay Thunder fan now, so I will definitely be keeping an eye out for the rest of the series. Happy reading!

I really enjoyed this story – second chance romance together with sports romance makes for my perfect read! I’ve not read anything by this author previously ad I really liked their writing style. The story flowed well and had a great pace to it. I loved the chemistry between the two main characters it felt real and believable. They had a genuine connection and I loved reading about them. As well as the two main character Levi and Brynn, there were also their friendships with other characters that made the story too. I loved the interaction and banter between them all. This was a great read and I am definitely looking forward to more from the series.

I absolutely loved this second chance romance read, I’m always a huge fan of hockey romance reads, something about all of the confident/cocky players does it for me.
Right from the get go I was hooked, I was instantly intrigued by the characters and couldn’t wait to find out all about them. This is one of those books that I was able to read in one sitting as I couldn’t bring myself to stop reading.
This author managed to create so many dynamic characters, both main and secondary, and now that I’ve finished this book I will impatiently wait for the rest of the series! If you are looking for a great second chance romance read look no further this is the one for you!

This was an excellent second-chance romance book. Brynn and Levi get their chance to see if they can rekindle the love they missed out on when they were younger. Of course, there are a few problems to tackle. Loved the characters. They each had little parts of them that I could relate to. I loved the hockey theme. I grew up in Denver and went to some DU games. There was nothing like some college hockey. The plot was excellent for me as an older reader that has had a few chances at love. I love the series and will be looking forward to reading more. Hit the click button and read it. You will love it too.

Second chance hockey romance This is Levi and Brynn’s story about a second chance at romance. I really enjoyed the banter between the team mates and Brynn and Tia. The writing is good and the author took time to develop the characters. Even though it was a quick read for me, the story didn’t feel rushed. This is book 1 in the series and has created a wonderful start for the rest of the series. Looking forward to book 2.
