Written in the Stars (Mothers and Daughters Collection) by Angela Christina Archer – Review by Jennifer Bartholomae

Written in the StarsWritten in the Stars by Angela Christina Archer
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

“Written in the Stars” is the second book in Angela Christina Archer’s Mothers and Daughters Collection. In this book we follow, Betty, an unwed and pregnant teenage girl in the 1950s. At that time teen unwed moms were sent to homes for wayward girls to finish out their pregnancies and put their babies up for adoption – whether they wanted to or not. Then they could return home to their families and life could go on as normal. Or at least that’s the idea. We follow Betty’s story as well as that of a grown-up Marlena, her daughter, through the journey of discovering she is adopted and all the emotional entanglement that brings.
The story is written in flashback sequences and from the viewpoint of both Betty and Marlena. Both characters are well developed, though in a lot of instances I feel like Betty has more depth to her story than Marlena. It was interesting to be able to see the situation from two viewpoints, but I honestly would have liked to have seen Charlie’s viewpoint written in as well. I think it would be interesting to hear the viewpoint of an unwed teenage father and what goes on in their minds in a situation like this. We do find out some of Charlie’s viewpoint toward the end of the book, but it is a very small excerpt. I think the beginning of Marlena’s story could have been positioned a little differently because I felt like that first transition between viewpoints was a bit clunky.
Overall, the storyline held my attention enough for me to keep picking it back up every time I had an opportunity. I am not generally a huge fan of books with a lot of flashback but this was written well enough that it didn’t get confusing. If you are looking for a sweet love story based on the enduring power of love, this would be a great one to pick up!

Journeys Through TimeSpace (Journeys Through Book 2) by James Talisman – Review by Shelly Kittell

Time-travel, celestial beings, special people. This is a fascinating book. The POV keeps you riveted as there is a war on to save the world. The characters are well-written. Team Light, as I call them, are my favorite as some of them “special.” Locations were fun to read about as many were written about in my home state and local area. Team Dark is flat out creepy. Lizard alien Masters and Ultimate Supreme, creepy Sebastian, and Halloways. These people are just awful and need to be stopped. It’s a book worth taking the time to read. It’s book 2 of a series. Definitely recommend.

Another outstanding book in this series! The story just flows along so seamlessly that it took me no time at all to finish this. This is written with feeling and it comes across to me in each character and with every page I turned. Each emotion is felt so vividly from hopelessness all the way back to hope. Tears yes I had a few of those too.

The characters are so beautifully built that it is hard to pick a favorite. On that note there are a few in here I don’t care for but I enjoyed each one for their purpose to the story. Betty had it tough and Marlena had a shock. I am usually not a fan of stories roaming back and forth through time. This one is done seamlessly making it so I loved their story and was extremely pleased from the first page to the last.

This is the second book by this author for me. She really has the magic touch with these books. She taps right into my heart. Thank you for taking me on this journey.

I look forward to more.

Read this one on a weekend and it was definitely the quick read that I was looking for! I loved the instant attraction they had and the loyalty that the main characters showed each other from the start. It had its witty moments as well as a few serious ones but all in all it was a very sweet story!

A Divided Mind (The Divided Series Book 1) by M. Billiter – Review by Kayla Kearney

A Divided MindA Divided Mind by M. Billiter
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

“All these rough patches you’re going through right now are all the years you’re going to learn the most about yourself. During the happy times, you don’t learn anything.” For anybody who has read this book, they know just how much this one quote from the daughter of Tara, the mother of the main character of the book, sums it up. At the point in this novel in which this line is said, Tara has reached her wits end, no longer certain on how to help her son Branson, who has been struggling with visual and auditory hallucinations.

In M. Billiter’s A Divided Mind, the reader experiences first hand what it is like to no longer be certain of what is and isn’t reality, helping them experience schizophrenia on a first-hand basis. This is one of the best novels with a focus on mental illness that I have ever read, right up there with J.D. Spero’s Boy on Hold and Boy Released that I read earlier this month. I knew from the moment that I read the description of the novel that I would enjoy this book, and boy was I right! I’m excited to read more from this author, and hope that I find myself reading more books like this by them in the future.

No Way Out: An Arranged Marriage Mafia Romance (Mafia Elite Book 1) by Amy McKinley is a great start to this series. I enjoy Amy’s writing it is captivating, engrossing, and intriguing. This new gripping instalment starts with the action, suspense and thrills right from the start and continues throughout. This romantic suspense story is full of drama and violence, mystery and intrigue, danger, and twists and plenty of palpable moments. I have said it before, but I will say it again that when I read one of Amy’s stories, I am on the edge of my seat the whole time whilst devouring page after page just to know what was happening.
You can never go wrong when getting a book written by Amy, so get started today.

Slow Burn (Breathing Hearts, #2)Slow Burn by A.K. MacBride
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The title of the book gives you exactly what you would expect, a steamy slow burn romance. The depth of emotion in the story had me utterly captured, giving me a perfect mixture of angst, humour and that gratifying heart-warming feeling you crave in a good romance novel. The lead up and sizzling chemistry between Adam and Maddie was so palpable I couldn’t put the book down. There were moments that had me laughing, which I found such a lovely balance to have in quite an emotional book. Very well written, I would highly recommend.

Caught by Him is a very cute, sweet, opposites attract romance. Being a short light hearted read, this book gave me that chick-flick feeling and was easy to get yourself immersed in. Brodie and Willa are extremely likable characters, well written and easy to connect with. There was quite a nice pace to this book, with some Jealousy and Ex Drama thrown in. Overall, I enjoyed this book and will definitely read more from Tammy Mannersly.

Kel O’Connor lives with her husband in the mountains of North Carolina. They are proud parents of two brilliant, witty and gorgeous young-adult offspring. In addition to reading and writing, she adores coffee, loud rock music, the smell of old books, and subversive humor.

Random facts:

My love of romance books began in my early teens when I would steal my mother’s Harlequin Presents and read them under the covers after bedtime.

I hate vacuuming. Before we were married back in the mid-90’s, my husband agreed that I would never have to do that particular chore. He has never gone back on this agreement. Who says fairytales do not come true!

The pair of hot pink cowboy boots I bought in college changed my life.

Random things I love: coffee, Converse sneakers, finding hidden bargains, the internet, the color pink and daisies

BOY RELEASED (BOY SERIES BOOK 2) by JD Spero – Review by Angela Packard

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the second book in the Boy Series and is set ten years after the first one ends. Tyler is out of the psychiatric rehab, Marcella bought a hotel, and Hen is 17 now and looking at his future. Sounds like things are looking up. Then Marcella is attacked, and Tyler is arrested for the crime. How much can this poor family go through?
My heart ached for Marcella who just wanted the best for her boys. I cried for Hen who was thrown into memories of the past watching his brother get arrested again. I could never imagine having a brain like Tyler’s due to his schizophrenia that takes in things differently than we think is “normal”. Can this family survive another disaster? Or does this once again remind them how much they love each other? JD Spero did it again, a heart wrenching story that made me feel every emotion to the core.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

What an incredible emotional story! Hen is a 7-year-old boy, who wants nothing more than to catch a hedgehog as a pet in his back yard. He falls asleep in his play tent to wake up to yelling at Miss Sally’s, the neighbor’s house. Miss Sally is like a second mom to him, she babysits him after school. Hen struggles with what he sees that night, did he see it correctly? When his 17-year-old brother, Tyler, is arrested for the crime, his life is torn apart. Marcella, their single mom is distraught, how to save her son.
Drugs, murder, and a psychiatric condition make for the beginning of a horror story. This was a story filled with love, concern, and family first. I cried for Hen, I cried for Tyler, and as a single mom, I cried for Marcella. JD Spero ripped my heart out, stomped on it, then put it back together. Families are never perfect, but when love is the foundation, they can survive anything.

Caught by him is the first book that I have read by Ms. Mannersly and it won’t be the last. This was a short romance story with great characters that are well written with a great plot.

When they say opposites attract you could see this when you meet Brody Nash and Willabelle Stone. Willabelle is only helping her grandfather out but after losing the key to his house, she tries to climb the fence and this is when she meets the famous actor Brody Nash. As they start to get to know each other and get closer their ex’s show up and set out to destroy their new relationship.

Can their newfound relationship stay strong with the rough start and misunderstandings?

I really enjoyed this short story…..

You really get more in detail the stories of the characters and their agendas. I feel like I was along side with Matt, Julia and Dan as they embark on quite a journey. Truly Wonderful story and i enjoyed the adventure and mystery. Thank you Author James Talisman.

Slow Burn by A.K. Macbride – Review by Lorrene Huisman

Slow Burn (Breathing Hearts, #2)Slow Burn by A.K. MacBride
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was a book that was very relatable to me more than one. As I am one who tries my hardest always to plan all things perfectly, and with much organization and being precise, sometimes life throws you a curve ball when you at least expect it, and you may find something you always needed, even when you had no idea you wanted it, until its right there embracing you. The book was very touching and fun in many ways!

First off I loved how the main two characters were so relatable in many ways. Adam reminded me of someone special to me, the same person I actually married haha. Adam was a soul whom had been through more than he deserved, and he ended up well with a bitter taste for life, and when he opens up on his demons you respect as well as understand for why he is how he is. Maddie on the other hand reminded me very much of myself, she had had goals that she planned to reach and life kept happening and everything seemed to overly get in the way for her. I found she was a bit deflated with things happening as much as she did, and I will admit I have been there more than once!

Throw these two souls together, well their actually neighbor’s so run ins are kind of unavoidable, and perhaps something so worth while could happen, something that neither of them could eve even think to live without if they got a taste for it? They both had issues they had been through, and besides the sizzling chemistry these two had, or the wants of making the other feel things that you only read in fun romance novels, was enough said for sure! What really got to me , was when they really spent time together and realized under their skins how much there was to each of them, and how much there was truly to love one another within them. They needed each other just as much as they wanted one another, but can demons stay afar so these two can find happiness? Or will the past come back to haunt them?

The book was a fun read, very informative as much as it was relatable of the two characters, but the chemistry was a huge awesome bonus. it made them more relatable than you would think at first glance, or in this case, first read. I loved the relationship between them and how they grew as themselves as well as being more than what they started out as when I started this book. Its a sentimental read for sure I felt, and very much was enjoyed. I think a lot of people will find relations with Maddie and Adam, as well as a lot of heart feelings as reading. its defiantly a high recommendation on my end, with no hesitations!

Raven Woman’s Tavern by Laura Koerber – Review by Allyson Ware

Very easy read and the detail is immaculate. The way everything is described from the main picture down to the minor itty bitty details that not many people think of. Definitely a book you have to pay attention to or you will miss a very important piece of the puzzle.

This book will have you considering who the bad guy is; a moral dilemma of sorts. When Baylor goes through what I would consider his “trials and tribulations,” you start to feel bad and want to help him through it. An overall interesting read.

Boy Released by J.D. Spero is the second book to Boy On Hold. This book takes place ten years after the murder that Tyler, then a little boy, witnessed. He is released from a psychiatric institution and reunited with his brother, Hen, and their family. Boy Released takes on mental illness and is full of suspense and thrills. This book, like the one before it, is HARD to put down. I recommend reading the first book before this one, but even if read on its own, this book would be enjoyable. The characters are so well-written, and climbing inside Tyler’s schizophrenic mind is intriguing and this family’s story will hook you until the very end. What a great romantic suspense story. It drew me in straight away and o could not put it down I had no idea what was going to happen. Elizabeth is such a strong female character it was great to see. After divorcing her husband who is now in prison for fraud and money laundering, the FBI believe she was involved. She goes away with her daughter as she feels in danger when finally luck is on her side the local sheriff was her high school sweetheart, can she get another chance at a happily ever after?
