Blood Oath (Mafia Elite, book 2) by Amy McKinley – Review by Colleen Noyes

Blood Oath (Mafia Elite, #2)Blood Oath by Amy McKinley
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

For me this book was even better than the first book. I really connected with Enzo and Sofia. This book had suspense, intrigue, a lot of action, and also gives a little history into the relationship going back to when they were six and eight years old. I enjoyed how the sub characters that were in book one were also in book 2 and that as each book goes you can see the intense camaraderie that flourishes. This author does a great job at storytelling hitting all of the right notes and bringing you completely into the fold. This is my first mafia series and it has not let me down I can’t wait to see all of the secrets come out one by one because throughout the series so far there definitely are several that leave you with your mouth hanging open and on the edge of your seat I love how this authors mind works. Now onto book 3.

Blood Oath: A Friends to Lovers Mafia Romance (Mafia Elite Book 2) by Amy McKinley

I don’t know how I got through life without have a book by this author to read.  I have had the pleasure of reading several now and each of them has me reading as much and as often as possible, sometimes even while working (but don’t tell my boss).

Sofia and Enzo are absolutely electric together.  They fight their mutual attraction even though they know how the other feels until they cannot resist each other any longer.

There are some steamy moments,  suspenseful/dangerous moments and even some laughs here and there mixed in.

The characters are well developed and I find myself counting the days until the next one will be released.   I need to find out what happens next with all of these amazing people.

Book 2 keeps a great pace in the series. This time around the story centers on Enzo and Sofia…best friends, love interests, willing to stay away from each other to protect the other. This is it’s own stand alone novel, but I think it’s better if you read book 1, as there are a few familiar characters and connections that improve the overall experience.

This author offers characters with nice development, a robust backstory, plenty of intrigue and romance to keep you following. These books make for a pretty quick read, as they are hard to put down! Check out the series!

Blood Oath (Mafia Elite, #2)Blood Oath by Amy McKinley
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

When we were kids we made a blood oath to always be there and protect each other, Can I still protect her when there is a threat and I am who I am.

Enzo and Sophie have been friends since what seems forever and as children when one day they were attacked they pledged that day a blood oath that they would protect each other if they were ever in trouble. Although secretly they have loved each other all the years they have never pushed.

When Sophie is in danger, can Enzo be the one to protect her and will he be able to show her his true feelings.

Can I just say whenever I read any series or story by this author it does never disappoint and this one is just as brilliant.

The characters are well developed and brings to life one of the secondary characters from the first book which is brilliant to see. I loved the way these characters interacted and the chemistry was off the charts, the story wound through each of there lives and gave you the history of these two wonderful in depth relationship.

I can’t wait to read the next in this series or any other book by this author.

I had high hopes for this book as the first one was SO good, and it did not disappoint. I love stories where each book in the series follows a different set of characters but still intermingles in the other characters you have met in previous books throughout the story.
The author’s use of rich descriptions while also keeping a conversational tone to her writing makes this book very easy to read and before you know it, it’s coming to an end. I am very much looking forward to reading the next installment and am very curious as to who that story will follow and how the events will flow with those included in this book and the first!

Blood Oath (Mafia Elite, #2)Blood Oath by Amy McKinley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I normally stay far away from the “friends to lovers” scenarios as they tend to bore me. Former friends Enzo and Sofia are far from boring though There was plenty of chemistry and sexual tension between the two. They are both so full of life and love for each other from a very young age. Sofia has some secrets though that just may end their happily ever after before it starts. Add on a psychotic Russian mobster that wants Sofia dead because of the secret she is holding and you are in for one Hell of a ride!

Blood Oath (Mafia Elite, #2)Blood Oath by Amy McKinley
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I wasn’t a huge fan of this book.
I enjoyed it as a quick read but it wasn’t my favorite.
There is a character named Enzo that you will fall in love with.
I do enjoy multiple stories within the same scenario or world.
Can’t go wrong with a popular trope.
This story didn’t exactly pick up where it left off from book one, this focuses on new characters new points of view.
Luckily, you do not need to read book one if you haven’t already.
The romance and adventure pushes you through the read.
I am gonna give this four stars because it is good but I won’t reread.
The author does exactly what you would think by continuing the elite world of the mafia;
however, I feel this is more of a stand-alone then part of a series.

This book was a page Turner and tough to put down! Once again, the author gives us a book that feels eerily authentic and simply normal as a reader of a mafia family book. This story of Sofia and Enzo is so intense and you are on the edge of your seat from the start learning about their love for each other. You’re in for a treat once the story takes a turn, as you learn of Sofia’s fate. Good read!

Blood Oath (Mafia Elite #2) by Amy McKinley

This is another great read by the author. She knows how to drag you into her world and keep you there. Blood Path is the second book in the Mafia Elite Series. It can be read as a standalone.

Sofia is in danger, but it’s leading her to the man of her dreams. What happens when there’s a contract and the other party isn’t dead? Keeping secrets isn’t what she likes to do, but one she has to keep is this one. The quote I chose for Sofia is: “So? That doesn’t mean anything. He could have seen movement and looked up. Who knows? Besides, it doesn’t matter. I leave for Italy soon. Ivan is here.”

Enzo doesn’t know that the other party of the contract is alive. He is still dealing with his sister going missing and Elena being dead. The quote I chose for Enzo is: “They took my sister. What’s stopping them from an attempt on my wife? I can’t let anything happen. Not to you. You have to know that, to understand after all these years what you mean to me. I swore a blood oath to protect you, even if it’s from myself. I’m barely holding on after what happened to my sister. I won’t survive the same thing or worse being done to you.”

Highly recommended for Romantic Suspense lovers.

Blood Oath (Mafia Elite, #2)Blood Oath by Amy McKinley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Action, mystery, mayhem, and risk of death, whew! A great installment in the series!

This book focuses on the friends-to-lovers, reluctant relationship of Enzo and Sophia. I enjoyed reading the flashback near the beginning of the story which described their relationship from when they were kids and how it had morphed to what it was in “current day.” Enzo is next in line to be one of the mafia boss heads but is also a protector for Sophia, a friend and woman he has desired for years. Sophia is an up-and-coming fashion designer who is getting her big break with a fashion showing in Milan, that is if she can ever get there with the threat to her life and her family’s overprotective ways.

I enjoyed the mafia aspect and the threat lingering around Sophia for being the daughter of one of the five mafia bosses that rule. We get to learn a bit about her role as the youngest and only daughter in the family, and how her brothers are very protective. We get to see more of the ladies that make up the group of friends: Liliana, Sophia, Emiliana, and Eva. I especially enjoyed getting to know the Russian assassin Katya (I love me a kick ass ninja type woman).

Like any dramatic romance there is the push and pull of will the main characters end up together in the end. I’m normally not one who enjoys that waffling of will they actually end up together, typically because it’s due to lack of communication and assumptions that the drama unfolds, but I actually really enjoyed how it was done here. There are true reasons why each person has decided not to follow their heart, including some life or death reasons, that add a dramatic tension without it being overdone.

Content warning: talk of human trafficking, violence against women, gun violence, death, mafia violence.

This installment be read on its own but the back information you would have from reading book 1 was beneficial to me keeping the information and names straight.

I love a good mafia book and better yet a series. After reading the first book of this series, I couldn’t wait to learn more about the five families. Blood Oath, doesn’t disappoint. Sofia and Enzo were meant to be from the very beginning despite an arranged marriage to be for Enzo to another girl. This romantic suspense gives you a good dose of mafia, true love and friendship all rolled into a great story.

Blood Oath was a hard to put down read and I would definitely recommend it for anyone who enjoys romance suspense books with a Mafia storyline.

Blood Oath (Mafia Elite, #2)Blood Oath by Amy McKinley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Sofia is a mafia princess. She’s been in love with Enzo since she was little. He is more than a best friend and their connection was strong. When the day the woman Enzo was contracted to marry dies, the connection between Sofia and Enzo weakens to the point of breaking. He is trying to keep her safe, unlike his former betrothed. When Sofia’s life comes in danger with the Russian mafia, Enzo steps up and wants to be her 24/7 bodyguard.
Opinion
If you like them steamy and dripping with unresolved love, this is it. This book is the second in a very promising series. It is not for the reader who does not like gore but it is a fantastic tale from beginning to end. Dripped throughout are bits of their past that takes this story to a whole new level. I loved it.

Blood Oath (Mafia Elite, #2)Blood Oath by Amy McKinley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Enzo Vitale is the Underboss in a branch of the Chicago Mafia, he is the heir to the throne and as such, has a large target on his back and is surrounded by danger at all times, but it also means that he is left alone by the authorities because of his blood. Sofia La Rosa is a Mafia Princess who is surrounded by friends and family who love her and will do anything for her, but she is also faced with danger because of this. Her best friend has always been Enzo from a very young age and they know that they would do anything for the other, but everything which seems clear cut as a child, isn’t that always way in adulthood.

Sofia is a fashion designer and one day as she is working in her studio in preparation for her first fashion show during Fashion Week, she is confronted with an unexpected and disturbing sight, this leaves her on edge, even though her best friend who has come to see her is pretty oblivious to the danger. She calls her brother and tells him what is going on, however, they are overprotective of her and soon give her orders to stay where she is until some guards arrive to escort her sagely home, she is annoyed, but understands, so she packs everything she will need up and prepares to go home. Enzo finds out about what happened at the studio and cannot believe what he has heard, he thought that Sofia was safe there and is now worried about her safety, he has tried to keep his distance, but she makes it harder for him at every turn, even though it is the last thing he wants to do.

As the next few days pass and Sofia and her friends try and figure out why this new danger is here and what it means for the present and the future, Sofia hopes it isn’t related to a past event which she has had to swear secrecy about, but as time progresses, she realises that it is indeed that. The danger increases around Sofia as she tries to regain some semblance of normality and because of this she is thrown towards Enzo and despite his best attempts, he cannot deny her anything, however, he is holding onto secrets of his own. Will these secrets destroy everything that Sofia and Enzo have worked towards on their own paths, or will they explode and rip the two best friends apart? This is a battle of past and present to secure a future where nothing is certain and trust is hard to find, earn and be earned as this mafia romance violently flies through from one event to the next in a flurry of action packed storytelling until the conclusion is reached.

I really enjoyed Book 1 and was very excited to get started on Book 2 and continue with the story. I feel like you could read this book as a standalone if you wanted to, but it’s so much better to be read in order of the series. I was hooked on reading this from the start. So much action and suspense, that kept me quickly turning the pages eager for more. I loved the attention to detail making me feel like a fly on the wall watching everything happen. I loved every second of reading this book and can’t wait for the next book!

Sofia is happiest in her studio creating her fabulous designs, when a threat from the Russian Mafia stirs up bleak and unwanted memories of past trauma. Trauma she shared with the fiercely protective, and sexy Underboss, Enzo Vitale. Sofia and Enzo would have done anything for eachother but recently their distance has been growing, new walls and secrets threatening to overwhelm them both.
I am obsessed with this series! Mckinley’s world is dangerous, twisted, and sexy! Set up perfectly so her characters can continue to grow. I can feel the emotions of every character with such detail and conviction. The yearning between Enzo and Sofia is so strong you could tell that they have loved each other their whole lives! I can’t wait to read more!

This book had me hooked from the start. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this one after reading No Way Out, the first book in this series. You don’t have to have read the first book to enjoy this one but it is my suggestion that you do because it’s a great story. I have read other books by this author and I enjoy the writing style. Sophia and Enzo have been part of each other’s lives since they were children and have loved each other for just as long but Enzo is contracted to marry another and Sophia has secrets that could have deadly consequences. This is a must read if you want to find out what happens between these two and if the secrets get revealed. This book is filled with danger, suspense, romance, great characters and so much more. I was thoroughly entertained, and I think you will enjoy it as well.

First things first, I highly suggest reading the first book of this series, as there are some things mentioned in the second book from the first book. Now that, is out of the way holy cow!!!! She did it again. This author never ceases to amaze me with her writing skills. Not only do we get another awesome badass female lead, she is also has human flaws which makes her relatable. This book follows Sophia in the following events of the first book. There is just so much of this book that I absolutely loved. The storytelling, the writing itself, the characters, everything was amazing and I couldn’t finish it fast enough! I can’t wait see what’s next by this amazing author!

What’s not to like? There’s unpredictability, suspense, action, chemistry, and intrigue. This author has the magic touch in weaving an engaging story. When the heart and body are at odds-true love will always prevail. Enzo, the ever-present protector- torn between being with the love of his life and family honour. Feisty, talented, and resilient Sofia is conflicted between following her heart and being a loyal friend. Toss a tenacious, vile, obsessive antagonist in the mix, and you’ve got a masterpiece. The 2nd book in the series exceeded my expectations. I’m excited to see what this author writes next!

This is the second book in this series that I have read and personally, it was even better than the first one. If you are a fan of suspense, intrigue, and romance then you need to read this. I will say that to really understand the plotline and characters you need to read these books in order. They are not stand-alone books. But that’s just my opinion. I was hanging on the edge of my seat reading this book. Honestly, I’ve bitten most of my fingernails off while reading it because I was so engrossed in their story. I love this author’s writing as she has a way of giving small clues without you realizing it. In fact, there were some clues in the 1st book that were foreshadowing of this book and at the time I didn’t realize it but now it all makes sense. I am wondering how many of those are for the 3rd installment. I highly recommend this book to fans of “The Godfather” because this is just as good.

Blood Oath (Mafia Elite, #2)Blood Oath by Amy McKinley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The second book of this series, just like the first, did not disappoint. This is a story about mafia princess Sofia who is being “hunted” by the Russian mafia. Sofia is a designer who is about to take off in the fashion world in Milan. However, prior to this adventure, a person from her past shows up and everyone knows that trouble is coming. Sofia has brothers who will not let anything happen to her, however, another would also come to her aid and much more. Enzo is the son of a high ranking mob boss, but has always pledged to keep Sophia safe. When they were younger they performed a blood oath and he always promised to keep her out of harm’s way. They have been “estranged” ever since his promised bride went missing along with his sister. He thought by staying away from Sophia, it would help keep her safe but he was wrong. So, Enzo and Sophia end up taking this journey together while he plays bodyguard and they both try to ignore their feelings for one another.
I always love a great, steamy, romance between friends that becomes more.
Some of the best relationships start out as friends and the bond can become something so different. That seems to happen for Enzo and Sophia. I really enjoy this series. The characters, the steaminess, and the combination of bad boy at the whims of the woman he loves just truly does it for me.

Blood oath is the second book in the mafia elite series, and like the first book it is brilliant. It is action packed, steamy and dramatic. Its starts off with Enzo and Sofia when they are kids making a blood oath that Enzo would always keep Sofia safe. But Enzo feels he needs to distance himself from her to actually keep her safe. Until someone from the russian bratva sets his sights on Sofia, Enzo will do anything for his childhood friend.

Blood Oath is the second book in the Mafia Elite series by Amy McKinley. I am really enjoying this series so far, it is a fast paced, exciting and romantic read. This novel centres around Enzo, mafia underboss of the Vitale family and Sofia, the princess of the La Rosa family. When Sofia is threatened by the Russian mob boss’s son, Enzo pulls out all the stops to try and ensure her safety, while also realising his true feelings for her. I really loved this book, the female characters are so strong and although the men will do anything to protect them, they are able to handle themselves. I am really looking forward to the next book in this series, I need to know who the “rat” in the family is, as I am sure that the author is laying a false trail just now. When I read the first book, I struggled placing all the characters with their respective families however by this book I feel that I know them all. Highly recommend.

Blood Oath (Mafia Elite, #2)Blood Oath by Amy McKinley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is book 2 in this series and I was not disappointed. I feel like I connected more with the characters in this book than I did w/ Max and Lil in the first. I liked the overall plot and character and story development. I’m still flabbergasted that not a single police interaction has been touched upon in all the gun play and dead bodies in the past 2 books but, hey, I’m no gangster. Maybe that’s how it works.

One thing I will say is that I almost wish the author had told Elena’s story first. Her story entwines into this one and I felt like I was missing a large piece of the story. I’m sure it’s a way to bridge into that whole situation (possibly next?) but I almost wish it had been ordered the opposite way.

All- in- all I think I’d still give this book 5/5 stars. It was well written and a nice simple and fairly quick read. It didn’t lull or get boring at any point and the characters were relatable and well written. Looking forward to reading book 3.

Blood Oath a sublime five-star read. This is number two in the Mafia Elite series, and I didn’t think it was able to be better than the first, but this one blew me away. You will be captivated by Sophia and Enzo, Sophia is the main character and she is doing what she can. But what we want to do isn’t always possible, and that’s when Enzo steps in, there is violence in this story, but it is done well, and has a place. This is a great story, and I can’t wait for what we will get next.

Blood Oath (Mafia Elite, #2)Blood Oath by Amy McKinley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Sofia La Rosa is excited about featuring her designer clothing in Milan. While altering Eva’s dress, the mention of Ivan Pavlov being in town catches her attention. When Sofia questions Eva, her cousin shifts the conversation to Enzo Vitale. Sofia has always wanted to be in a relationship with Enzo since childhood. Unfortunately, Enzo was in an arranged marriage contract to Elena Caruso. Elena, presumed dead after an abduction which included Emiliano Vitale, couldn’t possibly fulfill the contract. Enzo assumed that he was now free of the contract and could pursue Sofia, since he had the same feelings. After seeing how his younger sister didn’t seem to recover emotionally from her traumatic ordeal, Enzo has attempted to distance himself from Sofia. In his mind, if she was with him, she would become a target. Discovering Ivan Pavlov has set his sadistic sight on Sofia, Enzo becomes determined to protect her. Why is Ivan pursuing her? Sofia knows the answer, but revealing the secret could drive Enzo further away.

I thoroughly enjoyed this Mafia romance novel. It picked up from the first book No Way Out, yet has the ability to be a standalone novel as well. The shift between Sofia and Enzo’s thoughts seamlessly transition well. The ending adds a suspense element that I feel I know the answer to, but I will only find out by reading the sequel. I highly recommend this 5-star novel to anyone that likes a good romance with the addition of a danger element. What secret does Sofia have that Ivan wants the answer to? Why is the Russian Mafia targeting the Chicago Italian Mafia?

Amy McKinley has cemented herself as my favorite new author of 2021 with her most recent novel Blood Oath! In her follow up novel to No Way Home, the second book in the Mafia Elite series exceeded all expectations that I had for the book.

Similar to other series she has written, in this novel we focus on new characters who had supporting roles in the first novel. The story of Sofia and Enzo is full of secrets, suspense, chemistry and tension, making it easy for me to read it in a short period of time.

Anyone who is a fan of mafia romance and action-packed stories need to read this series. I am looking forward to seeing what Amy comes up with next!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Blood Oath, the 2nd book in Amy McKinley’s Mafia Elite series had me hooked. I love all of McKinley’s books, but the Mafia ones are my favorite. There are a LOT of characters, which makes the first part of the book intense, but once I get a feel for who is dating who, and related to who, it all falls into place. This book could be read without reading the first, as they focus on different characters, but there are a lot of connecting story lines and details. They are all wonderful, so just do yourself a favor and read both. This book focuses on Enzo and Sofia, the younger generation of the Chicago Mafia families. They have been friends for life, and both share feelings for each other. However, Enzo is promised to another, in a marriage contract, which has had them fighting their feelings for years. When danger strikes, these two are thrown together and despite a deadly situation, it is exactly what they both need. I love that Sofia (and all the Mafia Princesses) are not delicate flowers. They are bada$$ women who are trained from a young age to fight, withstand torture, and shoot a gun. Their family bonds are wonderful too, with siblings sharing close bonds. I cant wait to read the next book in the series.
