Mating Chance (Long Claw Pride Book 3 and LumberCats Series Book 2) by Brooke May – Review by Roxsanne Lesieur.

The Mating Chance (Long Claw Pride)The Mating Chance by Brooke May
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Cricket Adams is a mountain shifter in the Elkhorn Pride, her family owns a logging company and she has a son, but his father, her first mate, was tragically taken from her too early, so she threw herself into work and being a single mother, all while suffering from the loss of her mate. Boone Claw is a mountain shifter from the Long Claw Pride and as one of many siblings, he has been told of the mating call from a young age and he has also seen other family members being affected by it, so when it comes to him, he is more than ready to meet his future.

One day Cricket is working as usual when all of a sudden, the mating call hits her, but she is confused and terrified because she has already had a mate and cannot believe that it would come for her for a second time and nobody in her pride have ever heard of it happening either. Boone pretty much drops his life as a logger with the forestry service near his Long Claw Pride lands, to go find his mate, however, when he meets her, he is in shock at her reaction, especially finding out that she is in the same profession as his family, but the surprises don’t end there.

As Boone and Cricket slowly get to know one another, her reservations and emotions are all over the place and she is amazed at how patient Boone is being, but she is also surprised at his reaction to when a certain Mr Grace appears, he is a human who is becoming a definite thorn in her side, but is he ever going to take no as an answer to his questions and what will become of this second mating chance, will it end in rejection, or romance? This is another spicy romance where emotions run high and challenges are made as two shifters come together to find their future amid uncertainty and confusion.

This is the 3rd book in the Long Claw Pride Series, though I read it as a standalone and was able to grasp everything in the story I felt. You would benefit by getting to know other characters etc. if you read the series in order, I’m sure. This is also the first book by Brooke May that I have read, and I must say I wasn’t disappointed. The unique premise of second chance fated mates drew me to this book, as in most paranormal mates series the idea of a 2nd fated mate is unheard of.

I really enjoyed Boone and Cricket’s unique story and all the trials and tribulations they faced along the way. Can love like lightning really strike twice for Cricket? Will Boone, who waited his whole life to find his mate, be able to accept a young widow with a child? Will they be able to walk away from the pull they feel for each other or can they overcome their fears and pasts to make a go at it? This is a really touching second chance romance with some major and minor obstacles to overcome! I can’t wait to read more by this author after finishing this book.

I’ve read quite a few Brooke May selections in the past and honestly that is one of my main reasons for picking up this selection. I’ve also read some of these series out of order so I’m also used to jumping into the middle of one because although some details are better explained in previous works, the reader can usually go with the flow with the main content of the story. This story was quite unique as it centers around mountain lion shifters. That’s a first for me, although the trend for other paranormal themes try to realm in some unique quality. The story focuses on Cricket, a single hard-working mother who has lost her mate. Very invested in the family life and business, the unexpected finds both Cricket and Boone, new to the logging company owned by Cricket’s family. The unusual aspect is finding a second mate and the possibility of finding comfort in another.

Another amazing read by Brooke May who is a master at her craft as an author. The Making Chance was a great read, that takes a different take on the typical shapeshifters, and it really worked! This is the first book in the Long Claw Pride that I have read and am excited to see if there are other books in this series because this story had me wanting more to read about the lives of the Long Claw characters. The author has a way of developing characters that make them so realistic that it leaves you questioning if shapeshifters exist. This story includes two different prides, both of which are filled with loggers, which was perfect when the call to claim his mate came, our main male character was able to go to the rescue of his counterpart who was in dire need of some help with the family business. A huge plot twist is that she has already had a mate in the past, as well as a child with her first mate. This is something that none of the tribes have ever heard of, which has both of our main characters uncertain of their fates. If you’ve read any of Brooke May’s work in the past, you will not want to miss out on reading this book, and if you’ve never read any of her work, please know she is a super-talented author who draws you in with her magnificent writing skills.

I didn’t realize this was part of a series, so I read this one first. Despite that I hadn’t read the previous books, I was not lost at all so I think it works well as a standalone. That being said, I am definitely going back to pick up the other books because I enjoyed this one so much. Getting to know Boone and Cricket was such an emotional adventure. There is plenty of drama, emotional investment, adventure, and romance throughout. I breezed through this book in a day because I couldn’t put it down. The flow is wonderful, the characters are very well-developed, and the plot is marvelous! If you love a good shifter romance, this one is for you!

The Mating Chance (Long Claw Pride)The Mating Chance by Brooke May
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Mating Chance is part of Brooke May’s Long Claw Pride series. This is technically book three and there is a little callback to the first two stories since they are all part of the same family, but this can easily be read as a stand-alone. Boone has spent the last few years watching others in his family get their mailing call, when his finally comes he is excited to start his life with his mate. What he doesn’t anticipate is the potential that they may reject each other due to the nature of Crickets life. Cricket has already had a call, and began her forever with him, so a second one in their species is unheard of. When Boone comes crashing into their lives, she is taken aback and confused. Let me tell you, you root for this couple from the very beginning. She deserves her second chance love story and Boone just wants love with his mate. I’ve enjoyed Brookes take on the shifters because she didn’t do the typical wolf shifters. This series is fun and I am looking forward to the next cousin getting their mate!

The Mating Chance is Book Three in the Long Claw Pride Series. It is a second chance, fated mates, paranormal romance that centers around the characters of Boone and Cricket. It is full of shifters, drama, tension, angst, secrets, witty banter, and chemistry. Boone is a mountain lion shifter and part of the Long Claw Clan. When Boone finally feels the mating call and goes in search of his mate it leads him to Cricket. Cricket has already been mated and had a family but unfortunately her mate died. With her focus being on raising her family, it comes as a complete surprise to her when she feels the mating call again. Cricket denies that Boone could be her mate and refuses to accept the attraction between them. Boone is determined to prove that he is her mate and refuses to accept her rejection. And of course, it seems that a human has other plans for Boone and Cricket, and he seems determined to keep them apart. Can Boone and Cricket overcome the obstacles in their way and find love in one another? The small-town mountain setting provides a beautiful backdrop to the love story between two members of mountain lion shifters from different prides. A unique and interesting twist on the usual shifter fated mate’s theme.

The Mating Chance (Long Claw Pride Series Book 3 and LumberCats Series Book 2) by Brooke May. I love this author so I knew I would love this series. This book was no exception. Its the story of Boone and Cricket. Cricket has been married and thought it was forever but she lost her mate so now she is content raising her children. Once you have found your mate that is supposed to be it but when Cricket meets Boone he is determined she is his fated mate and will do anything to make her see. Is it possible for Cricket to have 2 fated mates or was she not really with her mate to begin with. She is so confused and doesn’t know what to do. She tries to reject him but he’s not going to let her get by that easy. Boone also has his cousin after him, always needing her “jeep fixed” and he’s trying his best to avoid her. Will he be able to make Cricket believe that she is really his fated mate? Read this second chance, shifter, romance to find out!

This is the 3rd book in the Long Claw Pride series. It can be read as a standalone, however for me personally I feel you will get a better understanding for our characters and their prides by reading from the beginning. This is a second chance paranormal shifter romance. It is full of everything we would expect from angst and challenges to humour, family and chemistry that only appears in fated mate stories.
In this book we meet Boone and Cricket and this is their story.

All Boone wants is to find his fated mate and he knows when the call happens he needs to follow it to find her which he does and that leads him to Cricket.
Cricket has been through a tough time. After finding her mate and starting what she imagined would be a blissful life with her children, she never thought for one second it would be taken away from her when her mate dies.
Now she is alone with the children, working for her family’s logging business. She knows that fated mates only ever happens once and with her mate passed she has settled to her life being alone.
That is until Boone arrives. He is adamant she is his mate and is prepared to go to any lengths possible to prove that too her.
Could it be possible to have 2 fated mates? Will Boone be able to prove to Cricket that what he says is true? Or will Cricket keep pushing him away risking the second chance of happiness she is being offered?

I am really enjoying the Long Claw Pride series by this wonderful and creative author. This book sees Cricket, a very young widow with a young child get a second chance at love through a mating call. This is unheard of and very confusing for her. Boone answers his mating call and after working out what was holding Cricket back they embrace the call. Drama with Crickets family business links with others in this series and I can’t wait for more. I need to know how all this is going to unfold.

The Mating Chance (Long Claw Pride Series & LumberCats Series) by Brooke May – Review by Rita White, 03/2024

This is the 3rd book in the series, and it is fantastic.  It has to be a stand-alone because I haven’t read the first 2. (Yet)
The story follows Cricket and Boone, who are Mountain Lions.  Crickets family runs a logging business, and this creepy man will not leave them alone about buying the business.
Cricket lost her 1st mate to a logging accident, and once you have mated, you are mated for life.  Well, that didn’t work with Cricket as she has gotten the mating call again.  This has never happened before.  You will see her struggle with this mating call because of losing her 1st mate.  Fantastic read.

This is the first book I have read in this series and I’m glad I took a chance on it. This book can be read as a standalone, I do plan on going back and reading the previous books in this series. This story was easy to follow even though there was a lot going on. Boone gets the mating call and is off to find his mate and he finds that his expectations aren’t quite what he thought they would be. Cricket already had a mate and has a son, unfortunately her mate was taken away. She wasn’t expecting to get the call again. She is confused and a little afraid of the unknown. Will Cricket be able to open up her heart again? Will Boone be able to convince her to give them a chance? I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story, there is love, drama, twists and turns, great characters and more. I look forward to reading the next book in this series.

Cricket had already found her mate and they had an infant son when tragedy struck. Years later, Cricket is confused when she feels the mating call once again. Since this is unheard of, she keeps her heart guarded. She spends her time keeping her family’s business going.

Boone has never even had a serious girlfriend because he was waiting for the mating call. When he feels the tug, he is excited to meet his mate. What he doesn’t expect is someone who has already had a mate and child before him. But, he makes the best of the situation and wants to do right by his mate. However. a misunderstanding has Cricket walking away before they can even get started. Will she open her heart to Boone?

This was an easy read that I was able to finish in one sitting. I enjoyed the second shot at love premise. I know these are shifters…but they don’t do much shifting. The story progressed at a good pace that kept me turning the pages.

Cricket met her mate and had a beautiful baby boy, but destiny had other plans, so it took away that man. After years of grieving and acceptance she understands that life will be just like this for her, oh but surprises are around the corner.

Boone feels the call of his mate and without any doubt in his mind he follows the line. The amazing things that are about to blow his mind will change every single thing he has ever learned about being a shifter.

This story is full of adventure and romance.

This is a continuation in the series but can be read as a stand alone. I have thoroughly enjoyed this series as it follows mountain lion shifters. I haven’t read books about them before so that really intrigued me. I love that each book can be read as a stand alone or as part of the series. I feel that it helps with new readers so they can just start at any point during the series and go back to read the others if they choose to. I would they are all really, really good. This book focuses on the wait that some shifters have to do to find their one true mate. It is also about second chance mating which doesn’t happen in a lot of the books that I have read in the shifter realm. The romance story that flows through the book is also held with the surprises that are in store because of the second mating opportunity. Plus the female lead has a son from her pervious mating. It allows the reader to follow along and be caught up in the story. It makes you want to turn pages faster so you can see what happens. This was a very good read and well articulated. I can’t wait to see what happens next.

Shifters sometimes have to wait a long time to meet their fated mates. Boone watched all of his friends and family get the call and find happiness beyond what he could imagine. Cricket had heard the call once before, and began a life and family with her fated mate…and then he was taken from her. When she gets the call a second time, she immediately denies it – after all, no one had ever heard of a second chance mate before. Her love had died and she was resigned to loneliness for the rest of her days. But now, Boone has come around and is so eager for a chance with his fated mate.

As usual, human interference does nothing but cause trouble. In spite of all of the things happening on that front, Boone and Cricket are immediately drawn to one another – they are fated, after all. Will they be able to find peace, either together or apart?

This was my first read by this author and the book had a lot of activity, but it was well balanced and just added to the atmosphere. I’ll be reading more of this series.

These stories always bring me joy. I enjoy the storyline and the characters all have their quirks. In here I was frustrated at the female lead more than once over her negative attitude towards mating. Life throws curveballs..just embrace them. I did get irritated while reading since frequently things were repeated. Usually either in the same paragraph or the next one. That leads to me skipping areas here and there. I have read this author multiple times. Usually I either really love the book or struggled with it. This time I felt about half way between the two. It isn’t great but not horrible either in my opinion. I do enjoy this series and am looking forward to Sheridan’s mating call.

The Mating Chance is the third captivating book in the Long Claw Pride series by Brooke May. As with the other books in the series, this follows members of the Long Claw Clan, a mountain lion shifter community- and makes for fantastic reading. This ca could be read as a standalone, but I really recommend reading the series from the beginning as the stories are worth it- plus there are other relevant bits that will help you fully appreciate the series as a whole.
We follow Boone and Cricket on a bit of a second chance, fated mates, paranormal romance- where Ms. May delivers all the emotion, angst, banter, humour, fun, drama, family, community, destiny, secrets, discovery, challenges, chemistry, and spice. As with all her characters, it was easy to invest in them and the outcome of their story. I was rooting for them, even if they frustrated me at times.
If you love paranormal romances, particularly shifters- then this is well worth the read!
Bring on Book #4!
Happy Reading…

Thank you, Brooke May!

This is the 3rd book I’ve read in this series and it’s my favorite so far! The Mating Chance has a lot going on, but it’s easy to follow. It’s just a matter of the decisions the characters make. The author does a wonderful job presenting the story, the character growth, and making you fall in love with at least one of the two main characters. For me it was Boone. Who could it be for you?
Boone has been hit by the call. Never expecting it to be cut and dry, just sweeping his mate off her feet, he didn’t expect what would be walking into. Cricket has been through the mating call before, knows the feel and the process. She had her mate and unfortunately lost him, but not before they had a son. Now all the sudden she’s getting a second chance call. One nobody has ever heard of happening before. So many questions and not many answers. The two biggest being: should she accept it? And will he accept them?
Of course you can’t get through these books without human drama and interference into shifter life. And it’s definitely here. Employees are being poached away hoping to force their hand to sell. Yet Cricket and her family stand their ground no matter what Mr. Grace says and does.
Will they come out on top?
I enjoy these books as well as this author and I look forward to more in the future.

An enjoyable shifter romance with a second chance at love theme which had me hooked throughout. Male mountain lion shifters must follow their instinct to find their mate when the call comes, and this usually only happens once. Boone Claw works as a log faller alongside his brother and lives a bachelor lifestyle surrounded by his crazy cousins. He has watched his family members all settling down having succumbed to the mating call, and so is thrilled when he finally gets it himself. Going on instinct he heads west and finds his mate, Cricket Adams. However, she is shocked when the call strikes her for the second time, as she has already found her mate and started a family with him. She cannot believe that fate would give her a second chance, having taken her mate away and left her as a single mother. When she meets Boone, she is in denial and rejects him despite their obvious connection. However, Boone is determined to convince Cricket to overcome her reservations. I was fully immersed in the world of mountain lion shifters, which the author has created through the wonderfully descriptive narrative. The chemistry between Boone and Cricket really came across and I liked the slight twist on the usual fated mate’s theme.

This book is an interesting take on shifters and mates. It is the first one that I have read where there is a second mating and I loved the idea of it all. The author has taken a well done trope and played with the concept that true love doesn’t just happen once.
I really enjoyed the characters in this book. They had an obvious connection right from the start, despite the obstacles they were facing. I thought it was great watching their relationship develop and I loved getting to know them. This is a great addition to the series and I am looking forward to seeing what else is to come.

The Mating Chance is a fantastic second chance romance tale and the second book in the Long Claw Pride series. I really enjoyed the first book The Mating Call in this series and couldn’t wait for this book to come out. Make sure you read the first book because like this book it is full of paranormal goodness. It’s my first love in genre.
The world that Brooke has created is one that makes you want to be there and experience what they do. It is so easy to imagine and get lost in.
This captivating paranormal romance story is set in a small town where mountain sexy lion shifters live, and soul mates are eagerly sort after. They are wild, absolutely crazy, and most definitely a lot of fun and you can’t help but fall in love with them.
With plenty of passion, action, drama, hopes, needs, wants and love and mix it up with fate and you have one explosive read that you just can’t put aside until you have devoured every inch of it.
Cricket had it all then it was horribly ripped away from her. Now when a second chance with fate comes along, she doesn’t believe it is true.
Boone just wants what everybody has and that is the answer to the Call. Now that it has happened, he must convince them that fate has given them a second chance.
I can’t wait for what comes next.

This has been one of my favorite series to read. The concept of getting another mate after the one you were lifemated with was really interesting. Cricket is a fiercely independent single momma that was settled into her thinking she would be alone forever now, then BAM, here comes the pull. Boone is trying to avoid his cousin, Sheridan, the bikini-clad wildcat that always needs her jeeps repaired when his pull comes. He takes his leave and follows his pull. I find that amazing because they take such faith and go (yes, it’s just fiction but still). When these two meet up, the chemistry and sparks are there, he just has to get her to accept. I loved reading this story. These prides are full of personality. The elders that the characters talk to are wonderful and wise. When Cricket takes her little one out for a run, I couldn’t help but think of a certain movie. It’s a bittersweet romance that comes with a happy ending that has beautiful characters and always brings a smile and chuckle. I’ll be eagerly awaiting Afton’s turn.

When the call comes, it is the duty of the male mountain lion shifter to follow instinct to find his mate. It’s only supposed to ever happen once in a mountain lion shifter’s life. But fate can be cruel.
Cricket Adams knows all about the call. Finding her mate already in life and having already started a family with him, she would have never guessed fate would do this to her. Her mate is taken away from her, but fate isn’t done with her yet. Working not only as a single mom, but as the bookkeeper to her family’s logging company, she is in an instant state of denial when the call strikes her again.
Boone Claw has spent his life seeing his family members all succumb to the call, finding a happiness he didn’t truly believe in even seeing it play out before him. Living the bachelor life, working as a log faller alongside his brother, and dodging his crazy cousin, he was thrilled when the call finally strikes him. Instinct takes him west. Learning his mate’s family has a logging company isn’t the only surprise he comes across.
A second mating call is unheard of and so could Cricket’s response in trying to reject him. Can they overcome her reservations? The pain of a human known as Mr. Grace and come together before it’s too late?

Romance author Brooke May spends her days writing whatever her overactive imagination has brewed up and her evenings reading while she works alongside her mom. Telling stories is second natural to her, from a young age she has told anyone who would listen what she had thought up. Now, a mom of two, she splits her time writing, playing with her kids, and of course, hiking, hunting, fishing, and four-wheeling in her beloved Bighorn Mountains.

Now with twenty books under her belt, she has so many more to share with the world. She has a little bit of everything for any romance reader; cowboys to fighters, bad boys to soldiers, and even a sweet cupid series for younger readers.

Resisting Nature (Powder River Pack Series) by Brooke May – Review by Manda Kelly

Resisting NatureResisting Nature by Brooke May
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

So while this is the 4th book in the Powder River Pack series, it’s the first book I am reading, and it can absolutely be read as a stand alone, but I do feel that you would probably get more backstory in reading the other books in the series. This is also my 1st time reading this author. I have to say, other than being somewhat shorter than I’m used to reading, this was a great book. I love the characters, the world building, the strong plot. I am looking forward to reading more of the series, as well as more from this author.
