This installment has a ton of HP vibes, especially with the flying car and the competition among the schools. I enjoyed the story and the character development. You get to know more about the main cast of characters in this book, which was interesting. I particularly liked the scenes with the helper/familiars and the addition to that group. As with the first book, I liked that the author doesn’t put in a bunch of fluff. The story is right to the point with no unnecessary detours. Quick read. Excellent follow up to the first book.

I can not wait to read books 2 and 3!!! I LOVED this book! I love most supernatural books, but I love seeing the character’s at a young point and then watching them grow. In this book we are talking about academy age. So your reading about young witches and different skills they can have or already do. Just like everything you have to learn the skills you are meant to have and then develop them. Makalya is entering her first year of the paranormal academy system, but first she must pick where to go! She gets three choices and if none of those accept her, she goes to the back up academy that no one EVER picks themselves! When she gets no word on the first day of school she has to find her own way with a slip from the library. Talk about a crazy adventuress first day! She’s thrown into a sink or swim maze to find where she needs to be. Unfortunately all three of her picks didn’t accept her and when she finds her path it is right to Grave Digger Academy!! All of her other six siblings went to great top schools. What is she to do, being the first of the family to be put into the worst of the worst!?? She hears of a way out of the school and being transferred to another school, but there is no way she will ever earn the top of the top marks in a curriculum that she’s not even interested in learning! She has more than one scolding about her interests, but looking for answers about illegal witchcraft and her being the seventh born are at the top of her priorities right now. As school progresses she’s half learning about grave diggers and what they do, but it’s not until she is thrown into a bet with another student that she wishes she paid more attention! Something is off at the Gave Digger Academy and she’s only just beginning to learn some of it. Will she make it through the year? Does she even want to, when she has to face her family once she returns home?! With the crazy start to the year, how will the year end? They is certainly a lot to learn about the corpses and how temperamental they can be! Will she survive the dangers of the school or will the headmaster expel her before she can get any real answers. I enjoyed this quick read about a girl that finds herself at a magical school. It had elements that reminded me of the Mortal Instruments, Harry Potter, or House of Night vibes. It was magical with a hint of dark lore and I loved that the undead was a part of the story as well. This was definitely a fun, easy-to-read book that left me wanting to read the next book to answer some of my questions.

I really enjoyed this book. The premise was interesting. The characters were easy to connect to. Loved the helper/familiar character additions. A big bonus for me is that you get enough information about what’s going on, without a bunch of extraneous details. It keeps things right to the point of the story without a ton of fluff. This story doesn’t end on a cliffhanger per se, but it does leave you with questions that will make you want to keep reading the series. If you want a quick, entertaining read, check out this story!

This was a really good quick read. I get Harry Potter vibes but with a twist. Makayla ends up at the school no one wants to attend, herself included. What she soon finds out, she is there for a reason. This fast paced magical book packs a punch in only 150 pages with the ending leaving you wa ting more. I felt for her as she made and lost friends, as she feared for her life, and as she sought out hope. There were parts that I felt it sped through but for a short book, did a great job. Can’t wait to read the 2nd book.

Makayla is not sure what school she will be chosen too, there are so many options in the paranormal academy but the one no one wants is the Grave Digger Academy. Her first day is met with confusion and when she finds out she is assigned to the Grave Digger class, she is less then thrilled. That being said, none of her talents appeared until her class and now she seems a bit ahead of the curve. Something is going on though and only Makayla seems to be able to unravel it but could it end up costing her more then she thinks?
I thought this was really good. I felt for Makayla, she is trying to find her footing and with a bunch of older siblings to live up to it is even more pressure added on her. Well written and was one you kept reading until the very end.

I love this author for all they create and write, I have been reading books by them for quite some time now. This book installment in this specific series, was one I could not wait for! It was very much worth the wait!
I loved the first one with the paranormal aurora, the characters, and everything to do with the academy! This one I loved just as much. It was so awesome reading about MaKayla again and her friends, with studies and games to participate in, as well, as something less than kind is lurking in the academy walls. The book gave a lot of action, suspense, as well as intrigue. I couldn’t put this down, I was constantly wanting to know what would follow! I have always admired this author’s writing style, and how they bring the story to life. No confusion, everything makes sense and comes together well! Great installment to the series! Loved it!

I was diagnosed with clinical depression after the loss of my mother, father and husband within three years of each other; all to cancer. 24/7 in-home care, coupled with the loss I felt, left its mark on my psyche.
Depression takes up a lot of my life. Reading and writing are the only things I have found that help (in connection with regular medication), even if only for a short time. To escape to a different world can make a big difference in my mood in real time.
To put things in perspective, when I was at my lowest point, I couldn’t open mail, talk on the phone, or even drive to the store. Walls of sadness surrounded me. As they closed in, tears would fall. There didn’t need to be a reason or trigger.
People ask me why I started writing. My answer is simple: I wanted to create a world into which other people with similar problems could escape. I wanted to share the one place that had helped me for many years.
I have always said that as long as one person finds a little bit of happiness out of my books, I am, in my opinion, an accomplished author. The same is true for every writer out there. Please don’t ever let anyone tell you different.
I read books as well as write them and have visited the worlds many different authors have created. Those worlds not only make me feel better, but give me the strength to face real life again. I want to thank everyone who writes—I want them to know they are making a difference.

Grave Digger Academy by C. A. King is book one in the Grave Digger Academy series. Though I’m not much into paranormal books, this was the perfect intro book for anyone. It was light and fun to read, quick and easy to follow. Makayla is going into her first year at a paranormal school. There is a lot of pressure since she is the seventh child and only girl. Makayla however ends up at the lowest of the low schools and it surprises everyone. Although it was not a choice of hers, it seems the school chose her, leading into a family secret that not even her father knew about. Gravediggers dig the graves, but grave diggers keep the bodies there. I’ll be interested to see how Makayla uses her abilities moving forward. The story is full of surprises, twists and interesting character development. I really enjoyed it from the beginning and look forward to the rest of the series!

Starting this book, I was having a hard time following along, I re-read the first couple pages at least 3 times, so I decided to just push through and hope that it was not going to be important for further reading. I should have just kept reading from the start and not went back at all because everything would start making sense soon enough. I appreciate the magical world that C.A King created. Instead of one magical school C.A.King created several so students can hone in and focus on their individual talents. Grave Digger Academy was a fun easy read, could easily read in one sitting. I really appreciated that it was a paranormal read that didn’t focus on a love triangle, there were no distractions with romantic relationships at all for this book. 4 out of 5 stars and the only reason I am giving it a 4 and not a 5, I wanted more! I would have gladly read 500 pages in book one. I am excited to see how the story continues with the books that follow.

This was a unique collaboration by 19 authors, some of which were new to me. The stories were unique and yet complimented each other perfectly. There was something in this anthology for everyone including romance, second chances, danger, thrills, fantasy, mystery, heartache, hope, paranormal, drama and tension. It was a true rollercoaster of emotions from start to finish. My favourites were After the Rein By J.A. Short, but packed full! I really enjoyed this book, I love reading about paranormal style school settings. It is sad to see Makayla so worried in the beginning because all her brothers got into very prestigious schools but she ends up at Grave Digger Academy, which to her family’s standards is the bottom of the barrel. The aspect of her being the 7th child in the family so she has a special ability the rest of her family doesn’t, is such a fun addition because now, necromancy is introduced and to the witching world she lives in that is a taboo subject. After her first year at school it seems like she is going to be in for a wild ride, with her new found powers, the enemies she has made and the danger she was thrust into immediately after arriving. I can’t wait to see what is in store for her next.

Grave Digger Academy is the first book in the Grave Digger Academy series. I always enjoy books by this author and this one did not disappoint. Makayla did not get into the first three schools she applied for and is now at Grave Digger Academy. This is the bottom of the barrel of anyone’s choice of school. I really enjoy the character Makayla and look forward to seeing how she develops in this series. I also enjoyed the antagonist to her character. This book is a fun, quick read. I look forward to reading the other books in this series soon.

I have read a handful of novels by this author, and she has yet to disappoint. Her ability to bring the characters to life, and to have the reader feel as though they are standing inside the world of the characters, is something to cherish. I was very much looking forward to reading this series, as one of my favorite television shows has the same sort of feel and antics so I dove head first. And came up for air at the end of this novel, that same day. It appears that this is something that a few readers so far have done. Devoured it.
All families have secrets, and much to Makayla’s dismay, she discovers more and more throughout her stay at Grave Digger Academy, through her own research, and the information presented to her through other characters. The way she handles and stands up for herself is wonderful, and she is a strong, independent female character that I look forward to experience further adventures with. I cannot wait to jump into the next installment, which will likely be this weekend. Goosebumps, shivers and laughs have me highly recommending this experience, well done!

Makayla didn’t get into the paranormal school she had hoped for. Nope not even close, she got into the Grave Digger Academy. She will learn how to keep the dead…. Dead. I really relate to Makayla as a misfit myself. I enjoyed this book and can’t wait to get my hands on the rest of the series.

Makayla is the main protagonist in this story. At first you feel bad for her because she has failed to join any of the higher caliber academies, the last one of all her least favorite, is her only chance. Trying to get her way out of the Grave Digger academy she doesn’t learn much, until she has no choice but to learn. This story was wonderfully written, and it blew me away. The author set everything up wonderfully and it just kept going. There were no awkward lulls in the book, and you didn’t feel pushed to get through the story. You could read it at your own pace, and still get sucked into the story. I can’t wait to see what book 2 brings to this wonderful series!

This is a wonderful anthology for charity with so many wonderful stories with love, laughter and heartbreaking moments from fantastic authors. I am reviewing 3 of the stories…but they are all wonderful!
Clara’s Story by C.A. King — this story can hit home to anyone…heartbreaking in so many parts but there was also moments that tug at my heartstrings. Clara is a devoted mother and wife but she also has these moments of worry, especially when raising her daughter, Kristen. Raising a teenager is never easy, but when your world comes crashing down with a flash…..Clara does everything to be there for Kristen. This story really tug at me, and seemed so real. Wonderful story of heartbreak, sorry but also there is light at then end of that dark tunnel.
Rock Star Lawyer by Rose Bak – this is a romance story full of sizzle when two different people come to work together on a benefit concert….but fall in love. Jayden Oliver was part of a rock band with his brothers and had quite a fan base. When it was time to move on, Jayden became a lawyer to help people and keep a low profile. Alona Pavlenko is smart, a bit of sass and all about keep the task at hand to work with Jayden on this benefit concert strictly professional. Little did she know the Oliver family loves hard and forever.
After the Rein by JA Lafrance — this is all about standing up for yourself when you are put down by your own family and husband. Rein Brooks was totally heartbroken when her husband up and leaves her…leaving her feeling down, degraded and out. When Rein steps on Paddy Nickels foot by accident this is when the story takes off. Paddy is nothing like Rein’s ex, Mack. Paddy see’s all the good in Rein…..but at first doesnt know how to be what she needs in his life, except to hear her.

I thought this was a really fun YA paranormal series beginning novel! I am definitely excited to read the rest of the stories and see how the series turns out. I thought the characters were a lot of fun and Makayla was a great heroine with a bit of an edge to her. She isn’t above breaking some rules and having fun, but she isn’t a mean girl and tries to be inclusive. The story sets up a couple of different mysteries that I am excited to hopefully see play out in the rest of the series. The book is a lighthearted read and covers an entire school year, so at times some of the timeline did feel a bit quick, but still easily followed. There was quite a bit of humor in a book about witches and Grave Diggers which made it all the more enjoyable to read. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series!

This was a good book with a great story! It was very fast paced, which I loved, except it seemed like with the fast pacing some things were rushed that could have been explained more thoroughly and taken some extra time to devote to. It’s like the timing was skipping around all over the place. I loved the story and premise, the storyline and plot, it just didn’t feel all that well executed to me. I was entertained though, and I would read thr next installment of this series.

This was an absolute fun and enjoyable read. It was lighthearted and I love the small humor in the book. I LOVED the extra mystery revolving around Makayla’s family and the old myth about being the seventh born. Makayla is a super spunky good but also a rebel teenager. The last thing she wanted was to be a grave digger, but was it the best thing that happened to her? The only thing I did not like was that at some points time was accelerated without any description of how much time actually had passed. This book is like Harry Potter with conjunction of the paranormal. The way C.A. King introduced all of the characters was marvelous, I really enjoyed how she introduced the villain in the story in combo with Makayla’s background. An amazing paranormal witch academy story that you will fall in love with and hate to be done with!

What a fantastic collection of stories! I know I have mentioned before that short stories are not normally my cup of tea so to speak, so when I come across one that manages to captivate and more importantly satisfy my love of reading I just have to shout it to the roof tops! Well this collection absolutely did that and so much more. It truly is a wonderful rollercoaster ride of emotions from start to finish with something for everyone. It contains such a varied collection of stories from some extremely talented authors. Some of the authors I have read before, such as the very talented C.A. King ( Clara’s story is truly amazing and I need more!) while some are completely new to me, and lets face it who doesn’t love a good creative mix of new and old. If stories of survival inspire and excite you then this collection is definitely for you.

4 stars! This is a great anthology of stories and with he proceeds going to a good cause, I appreciate all of the authors that have participated and all the work they put into giving readers something amazing.
The first Story I read is Clara’s Story by C.A. King. This story really broke my heart. I can imagine it is any parents worst nightmare to find out their child has been in a car accident. Where I can see how Clara’s husband was upset with them not spending time together anymore, I can’t say I wouldn’t have done the same thing. Wouldn’t any parent do whatever they could, and sacrifice whatever they had to be with, and try to save their child? The ending was very sweet and was very happy to see how Clara’s life turned out
The second story I read is Headliner by A.L. Morrow. This is a MM romance short story. Skye and Jet both have been through some things in life, and their meeting may be what the other is looking for. Skye has lost someone dear to him and Jet has been tossed around by his love interest, but neither can fight the spark that is developing between them. They are both so sweet and deserve each other, and all the happiness.

This anthology is filled with stories for anyone and everyone no matter the genre you like to read. I loved to see new to me authors along with authors I’ve come to love reading. C.A. King being one of those. Her story hit home as a mother myself and doing anything you can for your child no matter what. The others in this anthology are all so great as well and I can’t pick another to pinpoint as they were great in their own ways. Pick up your copy today and help support this anthology charity.

Grave digger Academy is book one in the series by C.A. King. It is great YA paranormal fantasy; it has everything you want. Its light-hearted and a little spooky. Absolutely a fun read, with great characters and fantastic world building.

This is a beautiful group of stories from different authors. All the stories are unique but they all have the same theme of triumphing over adversety and finding happiness after so much sadness. All the stories are beautiful but my favourite stories are Clara’s story by C A King and Finding Fate By Crystal St.Clair.
Clara’s Story is a very beautiful and emotional read. It involves a loving marriage and an accident which puts so much stress in the couple while causing Clara so much heartache and pain. I love Clara’s character and her determination to stay by her daughter side no matter what. As a parent myself I felt every heartbreaking moment but also the love and determination to help her daughter no matter what it costs her. Will Clara’s marriage survive? Will she have a HEA with her husband and daughter or does fate have another plan for them?
Finding Fate. Is a beautiful short story about a young girl who thinks she has her life ahead of her and plans for her future until she get some news that could potentially change her life. Since losing her mum to cancer Corinna has always been wary of her body. When she finds a mole she gets it checked out only to discover its cancer. Add to this news the stress of her best friend moving away and Corinna’s life seems to be going downhill. That is until a surprise romance starts with her friend Mason. How will he react when he finds out about her diagnosis? Will it be a HEA?

I enjoyed this story from the start to finish. The way in which the author created a world for magically academies for students was unique. Who wouldn’t be interested in learning more about an academy of magic for keeping the undead from rising. The way she revealed different important bits of information was synced perfectly with the story line. You are never left without some fact or plot moment to keep you interested and needing to read on for the answer. Cannot wait to continue on to the next book in the series!
Makayla finds herself at an important milestone that all six of her brothers before her have already reached; starting an academy in the magical world. With everyone before her, parents included, successful in their schooling paths it comes as a surprise that she ends up at the school which takes all those rejected from all other academies…Grave Digger Academy. WOW WOW WOW!! C.A. King has done it again! I was floored by this novel! When I was reading the synopsis before purchasing the book, I was drawn to the story because it was giving me “Harry Potter” novel vibes and I was not disappointed! This book was revolving around Makayla, who is staring her first year in school learning potions and how to become a grave digger. She is met with many obstacles as well as trials in the story. I read this book in one sitting and was so entranced I did not put it down once. Reading this story was wonderful as it was original and such a great read. I cannot wait to see what happens in the next books and see where she and her friends go and what they learn or accomplish. If you are looking for another GREAT read, then look no further because this book is AMAZING!!!

This is a great collection of stories by some great authors. There are some new authors and some of my favorite authors in this book. I enjoyed reading each story. Each one is unique and engaging. The characters are relatable and the author’s use of details brings each story to life. Each story is unique from each other but all are haunting stories that make you want more. There is something in here for everyone. This is such a great collection and for a great cause as well. I highly recommend this book.
