Sashimi (Evil Sushi Series) by C.A. King – Review by Alicia Furlan

Sashimi (Evil Sushi #2)Sashimi by C.A. King
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Sashimi continues the dystopian Evil Sushi series. How will the world respond to the newest threat from Sashimi? All over the earth new infections and mutants are emerging. Scientists are trying to discover a cure while the government and armed forces are trying to protect human life. In this second book in the series I had a hard time following the story as it jumped around quite a bit. I needed to backtrack a couple of times to figure out exactly what was going on. That said, it’s definitely an interesting storyline and I’m excited to see where the final book takes us.

After how much I enjoyed the first two books in this series, I could not wait to start reading the third. This book is the perfect example of the amazing work I have come to expect from this author. The story is just as unusual and exciting as the others in the series. I was pulled into the story with ease and I could not put this book down.
I loved how unique this whole series it. The descriptions really give nothing away about these books and how amazing they are when you get into them. They are the best original surprise you could ask for and I would highly recommend the whole series to anyone.

This is the second book in the Evil Sushi series. It pulls you in right from the beginning and keeps you on the edge of your seat all the way through. Very good series picking up from where left off on the first book. It had love, mystery, suspense all in one. Can’t wait to begin the third book in the series!

“Feel the heat of Wasabi.
It’s not just a topping.
It’s not just a plant.
It’s something else entirely.
And this time, no one is safe…”

Wasabi is the highly anticipated third instalment in Evil Sushi series by the very talented C.A King. I loved the first two books, Evil Sushi, and Sashimi so much- as they were such an original and fun read, so I was really excited when this arrived on my Kindle.
After loving the first two books as much as I did, I admit that I had really high expectations for this instalment, and I am glad to say that Ms. King didn’t let me down, delivering an engrossing read. I am excited to find that there will be more evil food coming, with ‘Strawberry Fields Dismembered’ coming next. Can’t wait to see what it holds.
As with the first two books, this has such an original and clever story, really unlike anything I have read before. It is a mash-up of paranormal, sci-fi, horror, dystopia, action, adventure, thriller, mystery, and suspense. With environmental issues, mutations, agendas, danger, evil food, and all the intrigue and dramatic developments that you need to keep you hooked right till the very end.
We started with Evil Sushi, then followed up with Sashimi- and what better to pair with sushi and sashimi than ‘Wasabi’- you’ll see how great it goes with all that evil sea food in Books #1 & 2. So get set for a fun and quirky ride, with a little side order of horror to keep things interesting.
You don’t necessarily have to read the first two books in the series to fully appreciate this one, but I recommend that you do so that you have all the intriguing details on board which will enhance your reading experience of this engrossing instalment. (There are interconnected details and elements that span the series- building a ‘bigger picture’)
As expected from Ms. King, this was a really imaginative, wonderfully detailed, and well written story that wouldn’t let me put it down until I had devoured every word. I would love to have read an even longer, more in-depth, and expanded version of this book, as this was over way too quickly for my liking (but in a great way, as I was fully immersed in the story).
Definitely worth the read!
Happy Reading…

Thank you, C.A. King!

Wasabi (Evil Sushi Book 3)Wasabi by C.A. King
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Wasabi is the third book in the Evil Sushi series. You should definitely read this series in order, starting with Evil Sushi and then Sashimi. It’s a nautical and food-themed apocalyptic story that’s original and captivating!

Wasabi is shorter than the other books, and I feel like we could have had more time learning about the monstrous plant and how it connected with the creatures and mutants we’ve encountered in the earlier books. I like how this book feels particularly apocalyptic as the characters try to make it as the last few survivors in a dangerous world.

It was good to see the characters I’ve gotten to know developing further in this book. My favourites Rod and Ned get plenty of chances to shine again in this one!

Wasabi gets four stars from me. I’d recommend the series to readers who enjoy unconventional paranormal stories! When I reviewed the first book I said you’d probably be ok to eat vegetarian sushi while you read it – I take that back! Even plants are dangerous!

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Sashimi is the second book in the Evil Sushi series. You should definitely read this series in order, starting with Evil Sushi. It’s a nautical and food-themed apocalyptic story that’s original and captivating!

Sashimi centres around an expedition to find and potentially eliminate the monsters that emerge in Evil Sushi. There is plenty of seasickness on this voyage, as they battle unpredictably stormy conditions. There’s also lots of interpersonal drama which the close quarters of the ship amplifies. Every character has their own agenda and they jostle for power and control.

It’s great seeing the characters develop across this series. Rod and Ned are my favourites, and in Sashimi we see them showing off their skills at the helm of a ship and creating gadgets to help find the monsters.

Sashimi gets five stars from me.I’d recommend the series to readers who enjoy unconventional paranormal stories! But maybe don’t eat sushi while you read…

This was a really short and fast read that I really enjoyed, it had a very interesting and intriguing twit to it that kept me reading to the end. As humans save animals and the whole climate problem, humans decided it would be a good idea to also go ahead and destroy the oceans thinking it was a smart thing to do. As two fishermen try and catch something to eat, what they got instead wasn’t what they were really looking for. This book took me by surprise by every page and kept me hooked till the end. I really cant wait to read the next book to this installment, but highly recommend that you keep your afternoon free because this read will take that time and you won’t want to do anything but finish it.

And it all started with Evil Sushi followed by Sashimi and now Wasabi. They each follow on from the other, so if you haven’t read the first two books, I highly recommend that you do so before diving into this book because you will be missing a major part of the storyline.
C.A. is an author that is full of surprises. I love that she jumps from genre to genre but also depth to depth with every tale she writes. It’s why she is a bestselling author.
Wasabi is another unique thriller from the talented C.A. I love the darkness she infuses in her stories. It has a little bit of everything and aspects of mystery, suspense, horror, paranormal/supernatural, sci-fi, dystopian and action. Throw in some creepiness and some chills and you can’t put it down. It is a past paced cleverly woven tale with a well-developed plot that is original, intriguing and flows smooth.
With twists and unexpected turns, danger and anger, secrets and lies, a pandemic and mayhem, mutations and so much more.
The sea is a dangerous place. Beware what is hidden in its depths and what floats to the surface. Imagine you are now the bottom feeder and the top of IT’s list, and it wants food, and that food is you. What’s left of the world is in an uproar. What would you do to survive?
I loved it.

What a way to tie up the evil seafood trilogy. Mother Nature sets the reset. I loved these books. In the beginning, the author gives us a view as how and why she came up with it. I say MORE foodie gone bad stories. I’ve never been so entertained and terrified at the same time. I found the writing deliciously detailed. The characters were uniquely personalized. I did love seeing the karma bus visit some. This author writes and will leave you thinking about things when you’re done. It’s a really good book. This book was another sweet, hilarious, original story from the author. As a fan of their writing, I was delighted by the cover of the book and knew it would be a delightful read and I was not wrong! This is a wonderful paranormal romance with hilarious twists and turns for our heroine Ducky. I absolutely loved all of the word play throughout the story and all of the witty and fun banter. Just Ducky is the first book in the Weird Shifters series. After reading this book, I look forward to more in this series. The borders of the paranormals and humans are at risk of colliding and going to war, and the paranormals are out in force since the return of Lord Kobreon. In all of this, we meet Ducky. She is a duck shifter who is teased and mistreated. What happens when Lord Kobreon runs into this cute, fluffy ducky?
I enjoyed the world-building and characters of this story. The book is the perfect length, allowing the story and characters to develop. I was intrigued by Ducky and how she doesn’t fit the normal shifter story. I enjoyed her tenacity despite her circumstances while still being vulnerable to her character. Also, Lord Kobreon was interesting, and I enjoyed that he was a contrast to Ducky.
I always enjoy books by this author, and this was no exception. I look forward to reading the next book in this series and to reading more from this author.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the first book in the Weird Shifter series. I have always enjoyed this authors work and when I saw this I didn’t hesitate to read it. I love paranormal romances and this has that as well as danger, suspense, adventure and high stakes.

Ducky (just as her name suggest) is a duckling shifter. To everyone around her she’s an embarrassment and is constantly bullied and teased. After all what good is she as a shifter if she has no abilities?
When she hears that Vampire Lord Kobreon has returned looking for his mate she can’t wait to see him. She knows she has no chance as his mate but she needs to just see him from afar.
However fate has other ideas and when she is taken inside the castle in her duckling form she gets closer to him than she ever imagine possible.

Vampire Lord Kobreon has a lot of his plate. With a war on the brink of breaking out between the supernatural and humans he has his plate full trying to find a cure for the kings daughter. The last thing he needs is to worry about finding a mate.
When a little duckling turns up in his life he finds a companion he never knew he wanted or needed. But how will he respond when he realises that Ducky is much more than a little duckling.
Can Lord Kobreon find the cure to save the kings daughter and prevent a war from starting?
Is there any way Ducky can help, or is she just a useless little duck?
This is a captivating story and I loved every part of it.

Evil Sushi (Evil Sushi #1)Evil Sushi by C.A. King

Fiction or possible future, to a degree at least. I love C.A. King’s worlds she creates they are always so different than anything else and no two books of hers are the same. Other than their ability to fully submerge you in their world. Told from several perspectives including Rod and Ned.
Treacle is the epitome of small fishing communities. To live there is to answer the call of the sea. But times have changed in just five years, the seas are lifeless. No fish, no plants, no birds. Life tied to the water is gone. The need for food is worse now than ever before and all because people’s race to clean up the planet made them blind to the life that inhabits it. Until it was too late. Rod gets lucky, or maybe it’s unluckier when he renovates Old Bessy, his fishing boat. He finds a fissure at the bottom of the ocean. The secrets are hidden in caves, unknown fish and eggs fill it. Ned dreams of a better life for him and his daughter and all caution go to the wind. One decision changed everything.
What do they really find in those caves? Can they stop it before it’s too late? What will be left of Treacle in the end? Most of this talented authors books I can see myself living in them but honestly this one is just terrifying in all the best ways the suspense the story the growth it will truly pull you under from start to finish. Book two Sashimi, see you there.

I have thoroughly enjoyed every book I’ve read by this author, so it was a no-brainer to pick this book up. They create absolutely marvelous stories within the paranormal genre which this definitely falls under. I was surprised that this was a little over 200 pages because I breezed through it effortlessly. The flow of the story is naturally smooth while being one-of-a-kind as well. There are quite a few twists and turns throughout that I didn’t see coming! I liked the characters well enough but would love more depth to add a bit more oomph to the story. Even with that tiny note, I completely loved this book. If you enjoy sci-fi, horror, dystopian, and/or paranormal books, this should be your next read!

I loved this! It’s set in the future where all the big corporations’ have taken over the sea so there’s no fish for the little guy to catch and the seas are sparse with fish anyway. People are starving and struggling to make money; Ned & Rod are out fishing one day and they find a ‘new’ species of fish which could save them and the people in their town. It reproduces instantly using salt and can immediately grow bigger ready to reproduce; Too good to be true right? Well it was! Follow them as their lives are turned upside down. Discover what this ‘new’ species of fish really is and how they have to work to overcome this threat to humanity.
I couldn’t put it down! It started great, gripped me from the first page. It’s got lots of twists and turns to it. I thought the story was going one way then it turned in a different direction then again later it did it again! Brilliant! My favorite character was Ned; he’s funny and tetchy and bossy. Loved him. Evil Sushi is the first book in the extraordinarily unique Evil Sushi series, by C. A. King. A truly original concept, filled with a little bit of everything, perfectly blended into one. I adored the fact that King wasn’t afraid to use the effects of climate change, and write a phenomenal supernatural thriller to call attention to it and give you one of those “what if’s” you’ll be thinking about for years. This book will definitely make you stop for a second and think, before immediately diving right back in, only to repeat the process. I’m such a fan of C.A. King and their lovely paranormal YA books. This particular book grabbed my attention with its adorable cover art. Who doesn’t adore a sweet little yellow floof!? I simply had to know how this shifter story would go, so I jumped right in and was not disappointed.

I really enjoyed Ducky’s character and sort of related to her with the anxiety struggle that initially she did not have a good sense of control over, leading to a number of embarrassing situations. Of course, bullying from others around her ensued.

One thing that I can say without hesitation is that the author clearly has a gift of keeping the reader enthralled with the different plot twists, characters and levels of paranormal figures. I could not put this book down. I found myself excited to see what was next and continuously telling myself that I needed to read just one more chapter before bed.

I found myself laughing out loud throughout the book because of the witty back and forth and even some of the character names that were quite clever. For instance, I almost fell over when I first read about the character calling himself, Drak Ula. Who would have guessed he was not a fan of garlic! Don’t worry, this isn’t something that will give any plot twists away.

I think fans of the paranormal, YA books, and great storytelling will really enjoy this book. It is quite interesting, a page turner and refreshing take on this genre. The fight between human and the supernatural, good vs what is perceived as evil, is always a good foundation for a fantastic story. This book did not disappoint.

I’m telling you C.A King has to be one of the most uniquely talented writers i’ve ever seen. I have read some of this author’s other books ( which are crazy awesome, definitely check them out) but i was a little reluctant to read this one, but i just decided to jump in and omg i’m so glad i did idk why i waited so long. I should have known it wasn’t going to be anything less than awesome. It had just the right amount of horror for me. This is a what if story with twists and turns, that really make me think my fear of the ocean is justified lmao. But I totally look forward to reading the next books! I also look forward to reading more stories from C.A King
