This book is starts off with an introduction between two groups of people, the humans and the shifters. The vampire prince has met with the human king and peace is established between the two groups ending a brutal war. Moving forward we find that our shifter kingdom is in trouble. It has been suspected that someone from the shifter side has poisoned the human princess and if the vampire prince can’t find the solution to cure her, war. In the midst of all this is an adorable little duckling named Ducky who becomes the prince’s emotional support duck but Ducky knows something the prince doesn’t, Ducky is a shifter female that has been in love with the prince her whole life. Candace she find a way to save her prince? Will a new war bring about more death and destruction? This was a great read!
I will admit, the title is what grabbed me at first. A duck shifter?! I’ve read plenty of shifter stories, and some mentioned that all animals could be shifters. I was very intrigued by the cover and the title. I’m glad I gave it a chance! I had a few good laughs, and a few meddling mother moments that made me laugh. While I absolutely loved the MC’s, Trisha was far by my favorite. She reminded me of my best friend’s mom who liked to meddle. I found it absolutely adorable that Kobreon called Ducky his emotional support duck. This story is for sure a change of pace from your typical shifter/vampire stories. I’m really glad that I read this book! C.A never fails to disappoint me. She does such a good job with building her worlds, and the story-telling is out of this world. I can’t wait to read more in the weird shifter series!

Just Ducky by CA King is a part of the Weird Shifters series. I must admit I truly chose the book because I couldn’t stop laughing at the title and was curious if the shifters were… well ducks obviously! I have enjoyed other books by C.A. King so I was sure that even if it were odd, I’d likely not be disappointed. And while I don’t want to spoil any of the story, I will say I was definitely not disappointed. The story was an easy read with real charm and adventure. With a war between humans and supernatural becoming increasingly likely, the MCs find themselves in a very odd place. I’d definitely suggest giving this story a chance. Especially if you particularly like this author and paranormal. It was enjoyable to have a story that wasn’t just vampires and werewolves.

I could really use more of Ducky and Kobreon. I could tell he had a feeling about Ducky after all the time he spent with her in her Duck form. His mom Trisha, she’s a sneaky one, she seemed to want to hook them up once everything died down with the human kingdom. This book has a super interesting story and cast of characters, I hope so see more from these characters in the future. This world they live in, and the supernatural that exist are odd, but they work and I am really into it.
4.5 stars Don’t let the cover fool you. This paranormal fantasyish tale is original and intriguing. It has a Cinderella feel with a twist to it. C.A. is known for writing a variety of genres and why enjoy them. You never know what you are going to get. I have said it before and am saying it again C.A. King never fails to deliver great works for her readers. She is one of my favourite authors. I love her unique and eclectic writing skills and the array of unusual worlds and characters that she creates. Ever wonder where the name Vampire came from? There is a definite line between humans and paranormals if only they could get along. A treaty is to be signed but will it be upheld? She has always been looked down on as lesser than the fiercest, the bravest and the strongest yet she may just win his heart. This imaginative and creative short story is one not to be missed for paranormal lovers.
Just Ducky kept me interested from start to finish! It was a nice change from the typical shifter and vampire story. It kept me guessing and wanting to read more with each chapter. The ending was unexpected and I loved it! It’s the kind of book that makes you sad that you’ve finished it. I will definitely be reading more in this series.

When I first read the synopsis for Just Ducky, I wasn’t sure what to expect. But, C. A. King is an author that I won’t hesitate to read so I dove right in. What an unexpected, well-written, original, shifter romance. There is drama, adventure, and a bit of motherly intuition and meddling. Ducky (aptly named due to her fuzzy, two-legged, web-footed alter ego) finds herself in the midst of conflict between humans and shifters. This is where she meets Lord Kobreon and his mother, Trishia. C. A. King’s characters are so interesting, entertaining, and unique! The world building in this book is great. I could see the opulence of the human kingdom, feel the greed of the human general, and the connection between Ducky and Kobreon. Overall, a quick, entertaining read that I would recommend for anyone who enjoys a touch of the peculiar.

Just Ducky is the first book in the Weird Shifters series by C.A King. It is a superb, very original, and cleverly crafted paranormal romance. There is a bit of a fairytale-esque feel to the story, as well as a ‘quest’ component- which means plenty of action, adventure, danger, and high stakes. This shifter romance had me intrigued from the moment I laid eyes on the title, and then the blurb only fired my curiosity even more- so I was excited to dive in as soon as it hit my Kindle. With unusual shifters, as well as vampires, wolves, agendas, an opposites attract element, forced proximity, magic, fate, humour, banter, mystery, tension, intrigue, suspense, the threat of war, and time running out- made this an entirely engrossing read. Ducky has felt like a ‘duck out of water’, excluded and made fun of- and treated like an outcast for her whole life. But when she discovers that the shifter of her dreams may be on the look out for a bride, Ducky can’t help but watch longingly from the ‘sidelines’. But then fate thrusts her into a situation that brings her up close and personal with her heart’s desire- only he doesn’t realise ‘who’ she is. Ducky has had a life of ridicule as a duck shifter, especially when she gets anxious she she shifts to a furry duckling. Hearing that Vampire Lord Kobreon is on his way, Ducky just wants a glimpse. Everything goes awry though when she gets hurt and is rescued only to find herself a constant companion to Kobreon, the only problem is it’s as a duck.
This was fun, was not sure what would happen to Ducky. Full of different types of shifters and very different then the other books I have read of this genre. Entertaining.

Just Ducky is Book 1 of the Weird Shifters series and when I saw the cover I was already intrigued. Never read a duckling shifter story until now and I love the uniqueness of this storyline. Drama, intrigue, shifters, royalty and greed…I really enjoyed this book.
There is a rift between Vampire Lord Kobreon and King Hammerhead as King Hammerhead’s daughter is gravely ill and Kobreon is trying to find a cure so there is peace between them. Ducky is just trying to survive each day, being a unique shifter that does not get much respect from others. Intrigue draws Ducky to Kobreon’s castle, his mother takes Ducky in her duckling form. Kobreon is attached to this duckling for some reason, but is tasked as time is running out to find a cure for King Hammerhead’s daughter. Will Lord Kobreon be able to save the day and find a peaceful treaty between him and King Hammerhead? When Ducky has her true calling will she get the respect she deserves and also to Lord Kobreon’s heart?
This is a fun paranormal read not to be missed! Already looking forward to book 2.
This book is by an author that I never hesitate to pick up. Her stories are engaging and hard to put down. I enjoy her writing skills and her ability to bring the story to life. This is a shorter book but it sure does pack a punch in the supernatural department. This is a well written story where the border between supernatural and human is at risk for war. It all depends on a princess waking up. Meanwhile Lord Kobreon has a line of females wanting to be by his side. What happens with these two you don’t want to miss. There is great growth throughout the characters and the plot which made the story easy to read. This is an entertaining story that is a must read. One you don’t want to miss for sure. I enjoyed reading this book. I highly recommend it.

I was diagnosed with clinical depression after the loss of my mother, father and husband within three years of each other; all to cancer. 24/7 in-home care, coupled with the loss I felt, left its mark on my psyche.

This was a quick read and enjoyable. The spice is not as detailed as other books so I’d rate a 3. It gives hints of reverse harem but she clearly states she won’t take all of them on and needs to “share” with other women
I enjoyed the portion of them being cursed and the story it reveals. However, the finesse was lacking.
I sincerely would’ve loved if it was longer. But if you’re interested in reading something short simple and sweet this is the book for you.
Selene has been bouncing around from job to job since she graduated college with her degree. Tired always because she’s “creepy” or makes others feel uncomfortable she heads back to the temp agency to try again. There she finds a request for help on an island. This is an extremely fast read, at only 52 pages, but to be honest, I wasn’t ready for the story to be over! C.A. King is a very talented author with fascinating characters and amazing otherworldly settings. The Gravedigger Academy was the first series I read by her and I decided then I wanted to read more of het work, so I picked this Supernatural read up.
We start by meeting our main female character, Selene, whose life just seemed to implode as she looses yet another job and goes home to find she’s being evicted. She then begs her friend at the career center for help, where Selene discovered a job listing for a remote island that sounds intriguing. This is where the real, somewhat steamy adventure begins.

Oh I so need more of this story! Had this been an actual hard copy I would’ve found myself looking for more pages. Selene finds herself with no job and no place to live. She believes she’s a great exemplary employee but finds herself in desperate need of employment, once again.
She visits an acquaintance at the employee center where she is able to grab a listing for a job, on an island. Benefits is not only employment but housing as well.
Looks are deceiving and upon arriving she finds herself immersed in a whole other world. Will she run when she learns the truth or will she stay and make the best of it?

I have become such a fan of C. A. King so I was excited for this one; Curse of the Forbidden Island did not disappoint. Although it is a very quick, short read, there is still the same great world building I have come to expect from C. A. King. I could see the waves breaking on the sand, feel the heat from the sun, and felt the cool night breeze on my face. This paranormal romance is different from others I have read, but it’s precisely why it stands out to me. There was mystery, hints of ancient curses, steamy interludes, and a touch of the paranormal. I was kept guessing to the very end, which came way too soon for me, but enjoyed it nonetheless. Selene was a character I connected with from the start. Her luck is nothing but bad until she takes the job on the mysterious, yet intriguing, Forbidden Island. Great read by C. A. King!

When nothing goes right, opportunity can come knocking and that is exactly what happens when a job advertisement somewhere called “Forbidden Island” come up, there isn’t much detail, however, one particular woman finds that she meets all the criteria and before you know it, she is surrounded by sun, sea, sand and gorgeous men.
The only thing wrong, or at least, the only thing that doesn’t quite fit is the rule of everyone wearing masks on a night, but that doesn’t stop the rising desires which the six Casanova’s bring out, but beneath the perfect façade there is a mystery to be unravelled which is just as tantalising as the men.
Who are these mysterious hotties, are they the owners of the island, or are they other employees, and what is the mystery surrounding them? This is a hot and heavy paranormal romance where nothing is as it seems, mystery surrounds everyone and everything, but figuring it all out is as addictive as the spice within.

Selene is running out of job prospects and is on her way to being homeless and broke. She finds what appears to be an ad for her dream job. A well paying job that is only a couple hours a day/three times a week, free food and housing and on a tropical island?! It has to be too good to be true.
Once Selene arrives, she finds out the Island is owned by six gorgeous men but there are rumours that the island is cursed. Selene is determined to keep this job. She tries her hardest to follow the rules. Even the weird one of all residents on the island have to wear masks, from dusk to dawn, if they are to leave their room.
Selene soon finds out that the nights are full of mystery and passion and she is all for it. But it still isn’t enough for her. She wants to learn more about the supposed curse and about the men who own the island.
C.A. King is one of my favourite authors. Their books are usually short but packed full of detail leaving you with a fast paced adventure or romance depending on the book that leaves you satisfied but also wanting more. I highly recommend anything this author writes and this book is no exception. There’s mystery, intrigue, romance and steam all bundled up with an HEA.

I’m dipping my toes into more paranormal romances lately so I had to read this one. Rather quick read but I really enjoyed every page. Mystery’s make a book so much fun! Always needing to know what happens next so I’m quickly reading and flipping the pages but it grabbed my attention right away. And there’s a little bit of steam which I love!!! Can’t go wrong with that. Honestly though, it ended way too quickly for me and I didn’t want it to end. I’ll definitely be reading more of this authors work!

I haven’t disliked anything from C.A. King, and I am happy to announce this was absolutely no different. Curse of Forbidden Island was a fantastic quick read. I certainly would consider this a paranormal romance. This was a bit different than the other C.A. King books I read but enjoyed it. I would say my only complaint is that it ended, I could have continued reading. I surely hope King shares more of this story in some way.

Curse of the Forbidden Island isn’t what I expected. The cover art is what drew me in, I didn’t really know what the story was about, but I’ve read others by this author that I liked. The author is great with words, painting a picture with them. This was a good book, with a unique story line. It is very short- I read it in one sitting, but it is satisfactory, and wraps up as a full story. We get to know the history of the island, it’s curse and the reason for the masks. It was a little more…. graphic, and steamy than I expected- but that warning is in the synopsis.

This is a quick and sexy read. On her last leg Selene finds herself taking a chance on a job that seems too good to be true. Soon she has more questions than answers. Will her curiosity cost her another job or will Selene finally find one that she is good at? I liked the idea of this book but found the actual story missing something for me. I would have liked a bit more depth to the characters and their connection. Selene does not stand out for me and as much as I was interested in the plot I was not pulled in to the story. The male characters that we do get to meet are intriguing and it would have been nice to see more of their personalities. This is a quick adventure that gives readers a titillating story with a touch of the paranormal and mystery.

I’ve read many books by C.A. king and I know that she never fails to deliver. The books usually have something a little outlandish for the subject matter but each time this author delivers a well written, satisfying story, although usually on the shorter side these novels are packed full. Curse of the Forbidden Island is a reverse harem, paranormal romance focusing on Selene. Selene I actually felt for because I’ve had similar feelings about myself my whole life. Never being quite good enough, there always being some reason people have an issue with me even though I’ve done nothing wrong. She actually gets fired from another job in the very beginning of the book to set everything off. What better place to go after than an intriguing new job on a mysterious island?! I definitely liked this fast paced, steamy novella.

This paranormal romance was NOT long enough! This is an intriguing and spell-binding treat to indulge in. I started the story sympathizing with Selene and then rapidly found myself quite jealous of her! It is a steamy tale but well-written, and it left me wanting oh so much more. This is a good one to dig into when you don’t want to commit to anything lengthy, but you will definitely wish it was longer and that’s my only complaint here. I love the way this author writes and highly recommend this story.

C.A. King has done it again with this short story. A lot of stuff happens in 52 short pages. Selene does a but to warm up to, but once she finds her stride, she becomes more likable. She is the only staff member to stay overnight besides the owners and visitors. If she leaves during the night she must dawn on a mask. She gets intrigued by the 6 mysterious owners. She plays detective and things gets interesting. I loved reading the short story and I can’t wait to read more short stories by her!

Picking up any story by this author C.A king, you will never regret. The Curse of the Forbidden Island is a short but steamy read( about 50 pages). Just like the heroine Selene, I had to know what the mystery curse of the island was, and It leads to a paranormal reverse-harem romance 😉. This will for sure keep your attention from the start til the quick end. This book left me wanting so much more, so I can not wait to see if this was like a prequel to a longer series. I would definitely read it, if the author were to make more in this world 🤞. I also look forward to reading more works from C.A King Ps I mean if you were down on your luck , would you accept a sketchy job offer at a paradise island lmao
