When her dad’s PI business is going under and he’s not available to work, Jenny has a decision to make- let it go under or step in and take matters into her own hands. It’s a no-brainer, right? But it’s 1936 in Tyler, Texas, and Jenny doesn’t have her credentialed paperwork to work as a PI.

This book was an absolute joy to read. It’s a warm, historical mystery with great character development. The author did an awesome job describing the scenery, buildings, people, etc and helps you feel like you’re right there with them on their journey. I quickly became invested in the story, caring what happened to characters. This, to me, is the sign of a well written book. Can’t wait to read more in this series.

This was a great cozy historical mystery read. It is a short novel but it held my attention throughout and I read it in one sitting (staying up late ;)) We follow Jenny whom is covering her fathers PI business while he is recovering., trying to keep his reputation and the business afloat. A visit to the jail to see an estranged relative leads Jenny on a chase to find some missing jewelry. The story shows Jenny to be clever and determined to solve the mystery which involves love gone wrong, lies, cover-ups and a shooting.

This is a second novel and while I did not read the first, I was pleased to find that I could follow the novel with no problems and you can definitely read this as a stand – alone and not feel like you were missing anything.

JD (Jenny Dee) decides to help her father’s failing PI firm as it slips closer to shutting down during the depression. She receives a phone call from her uncle from prison asking for help finding a stolen necklace of her cousin’s. Her cousin winds up dead and now not only is JD looking for a thief, she’s looking for a murderer. Time is of the essence! Can JD solve the mystery of the missing necklace AND find a murderer on the loose before they strike again?

Wow, totally amazed! This book was so enjoyable and I was quite intrigued by just the cover and decided to dive in. The story flowed and I could not put this book down!

I love a great strong female lead character in a story. Jenny is truly amazing, she is strong and determined to not only solve a mystery but to keep her father’s business going so that his reputation is not in ruins. Trying to run a PI office during the depression can be quite difficult. When Jenny’s cousin, Betty, find herself in some trouble over a beautiful necklace, Jenny tries to solve the mystery over stolen jewels. There are twists and deceit along the way of this story. Will Jenny solve the crimes of murder and missing jewelry before it is to late?

Definitely check this book out, it is fantastic!

The Killer Jack Mystery is part of the J.D. Pierson Case File Series. This is a fun, cozy mystery that takes place during the Great Depression. J.D. is trying to save her father’s detective agency and solve the Killer Jack Mystery. I like a good cozy mystery as well as historical fiction and this fits the bill. J.D. is a determined female detective who is trying to protect her father’s reputation by taking over his detective business without that information being made public. She has lots of challenges in a male-dominated world beyond just solving a mystery. I liked the characters and story and look forward to reading more in this series.

This is a fun and easy reading historical mystery story with some great characters involved. I didn’t find the story to be that complex which meant it was great just for getting lost in for a few hours. It is a pretty quick story to read, nothing too heavy but still an interesting book.
I thought the main character and her father were a good combination. The dynamic worked. This is a good book that is worth a read.

Jenny has her hands full covering for her father, trying to keep his business running; she also types for a local attorney, all to keep them afloat. While covering for her father she visits her dying Uncle in jail. As she follows through on his request, she finds herself a case. Will she be able to solve it?
This is the first book by C.H. Sessums that I have read. The Killer Jack Mystery is the second book in the JD Pierson Case Files series. As I, for the most part, did not feel lost or confuse would say this story can be read as a stand alone. This not my go to genre, but I can say, I was not disappointed and will be going back to read the first and then the rest of this series. The story was well written and the characters were engaging. I recommend giving this book a read.

A fun mystery murder book! I really enjoyed following along on this adventure to find out who stole the jewelry from the Barricks and who killed JD’s cousin Betty. JD or Jenny, decides to help out her Dad’s PI business by taking on a case while he is in recovery for alcoholism, at first I honestly was thinking why did she get involved, there may not have been any deaths had she stayed out of it. But when it came down to it in the end, she made me think differently, if no-one had stolen the jewelry there wouldn’t have been any deaths either! Mrs. Forsythe, she’s a piece of work and her brother George seemed a little unstable if what his sister was saying about him was correct, that he wanted the love of Mrs. Barrick not to blackmail her. In the epilogue it seems we have another juicy but devastating mystery coming and I look forward to the next book!

The Killer Jack Mystery is part of the J.D Pierson Case Files series. It is the first book I have read, but I really enjoyed it and will read the others. The book is well written, with good characters and maintained mystery throughout. It is not very long, but seemed appropriate- I didn’t feel like it ended suddenly or was rushed. The book follows Jenny, as she fills in for her father, a Private Investigator in the early to mid 1900s. She is asked to check in on her cousin, who may be caught up with some bad people. That quickly escalates to million dollar thefts, murder and a whole string of lies and mystery. I love the characters, as Jenny is a strong independent woman, in a time where it is not common. I look forward to see what will come next, after her dad returns home. Highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys mystery and crime. There is a cliff hanger at the end, that I was surprised to know it was based on a true story. I can’t wait to read the next book.

I found this historical cozy mystery story to be an enjoyable and entertaining read, and one which had me hooked from start to finish. It’s a fairly short novel but it’s definitely action packed with plenty of plot twists that kept me guessing. Our heroine, Jenny is trying to keep her father’s PI business running after he’s turned to alcohol. A call from the state penitentiary is the start of a new case, searching for a stolen necklace but soon Jenny finds she’s in the sights of a killer. The call is from her Uncle who is in prison for robbery, but he’s concerned about his daughter, Jenny’s cousin Betty and needs help.
Betty is wearing a pendant which Jenny is pretty sure is stolen but her cousins not talking about it. Things take a dramatic turn when Betty gets gunned down and the necklace is stolen. Suddenly Jenny is not just looking for a thief but also a murderer, she needs to discover the identity of a man named Jack before he disappears again, and maybe even kills again. I found the main character, Jenny very likeable and relatable and felt engaged with her, as though I was alongside her as she investigated. The author’s descriptive narrative made the setting come alive and the added historical details made me feel I had gone back in time. I look forward to future books in this series, featuring Jenny.

This is a really fun murder mystery that I thoroughly enjoyed. J.D. Pierson (Jenny Dee, that is, not the famed PI, but his plucky daughter) is a great investigator who proves herself to be smart, daring, capable, and talented. Even though she isn’t meant to be looking into this murder, she’s unable to resist when her father is in hospital and money is tight. That isn’t the only reason however – like her father she has a nose for danger, and her natural curiousity, bravery and stubbornness don’t allow her to back down until every clue has been chased down. This book is written superbly, and is engaging and quick-witted. It is a shorter book, but the plot felt appropriately brisk and well-timed. I found it very well planned-out and a pleasure to read.

This book follows Jenny as she tries to uncover the mystery revolving around a necklace her cousin is wearing that Jenny’s uncle claims is stolen and could get his daughter, Jenny’s cousin, in trouble. As Jenny tracks down her cousin she ends up realizing she is in for a bigger case than she realized as she now has to try to find the stolen jewelry and now a murderer. This book kept me on the edge of my seat and I read it in less than 5 hours. I was hooked immediately and there were just enough characters and possible suspects to keep me intrigued and questioning everyone without having too many people that it got confusing. This was a very well-done mystery with a satisfying twisty ending. Reading this book would be a fun way to spend a few hours of your day as you won’t be able to put it down once you start. Highly recommend. 4/5 stars

The Killer Jack Mystery is the second book in The J.D. Pierson Case Files by C.H. Sessums. This is quite an intriguing historical cosy mystery- and we tag along on this case, getting involved in the investigation whilst trying to piece everything together before the reveal. The Killer Jack Mystery is a ‘whodunnit’ packed full of drama, murder, adventure, action, danger, and theft- with an interesting and somewhat quirky cast.
JD Pierson has stepped in to try to keep her father’s PI business afloat after he turns to alcohol in his grief after the death of his wife (JD’s mother). She desperately wants to save not only his business, but also his reputation- and in doing so JD proves to be quite resourceful and clever. She certainly proves herself as she unravels this mystery.
This is the first book that I have read by Ms. Sessums, and not having read the first book I was a little concerned that I would feel like I was ‘missing’ things in this story. But that wasn’t the case at all- this book can definitely be read as a standalone. But having said that, I notice that there are three more books already published in this series, so I will certainly be going back and to read the first book, before exploring the rest of the series.
A great little cosy mystery!
Happy Reading!

Thank you, C.H. Sessums!

Everyone is having a hard time keeping their businesses going during the depression and P.I. business is no exception. While her father has turned to the bottle J.D. is doing her best to keep his business going. When a call comes from her uncle who has been in prison Jenny can’t lie to him. He’s family and you always help family. When a necklace comes up missing and her cousin is murdered Jenny is on the hunt to find the suspect before he disappears and ends up committing another murder. Will she be able to find the necklace and the culprit?

This was a good mystery and a quick read. It draws you in from the beginning and keeps you turning the pages. I’m finding that I don’t have a lot of time to read a whole lot these days due to my crazy work schedule, but books like this are worth saying one more page no matter how early my alarm is set.

I really enjoyed this mystery story. It is set in the 1930’s and the author does an amazing job of transporting the reader back to that time period. I love our lead character Jenny. She is a very determined young woman and faces danger head on to solve her case.

Jenny has been sent on the mission by her uncle who passed away. He fears she is in danger. All because of an expensive necklace she wears.

What happens next is a story that twists and turns as mystery gets deeper and more confusing. What Jenny doesn’t expect is that a routine search for missing jewellery would end up in several people dying.
Is Jenny going to be capable enough to solve this case or will she end up just risking herself by playing detective?

Jenny has her hands full trying to keep everything together. She’s running her father’s agency, taking on odd jobs, trying to not starve to death and figure out who murdered her cousin. Oh, and it’s during the Great Depression…. This book shows what an amazing young woman Jenny is. She does many of the things men do, herself. And then her father is requested to the prison by her mother’s brother to help save her cousin. Her father is an alcoholic that can’t function so Jenny stands in. The characters feel relatable even with it being the 1930’s. They are very well-written. I really enjoyed how much the story pulled me in with engagement. You felt a part of it from the beginning and it stayed that way until the very end. She is a character that any woman could be. I look forward to reading more in this series. I highly recommend it.
