Transformations (The Shifter Series, #1) by Cari Schaeffer – Review by Emily Walsh

Transformations (The Shifter Series, #1)Transformations
ByCari Schaeffer
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Transformations (The Shifter Series, #1) by Cari Schaeffer was a uniquely original read that was pretty okay, and took a different take on the shifter world.

My first read by this author, I went in with a open mind as the synopsis was intriguing and the reviews raving. The opening was hooking and a little darker than I thought it would be. It set the stage for what was to come, and it really drove home how a family feud, that started generations ago, can affect family(s) that had nothing to do with the original fight. I like it, cause there are feuds like this today, hate for no reason other then, “it’s part of the family history”, is to me, silly, and closed minded.

Now to start, I did have some issues with this book. Told in multi POV, we get different sides to the story, and we get some scenes that don’t add anything to the plot and felt like filler. There were also some long winded scenes, and some that seemed too short. So that lead to pacing issues and, it created a choppiness feeling between transitions. It took me a bit to like out MC, she was something at the start, and I don’t want to say bratty, but that’s how she came across. I get it, she’s going through her transformation to shifter, but some of the stuff she was spuing was just disrespectful nonsense. (BTW being normal is overrated.. just saying) I have this things agents closed minded characters that are very me, me, me. I saw that right away, and it made me dislike her. Now as the story goes on, she does get better and towards the end I did kind of like her, okay I like her a lot. But, she’s something, I just got to warn you on that.

This is also a bit of a star crossed lover type deal, it wasn’t bad, but again, it is a overuse trope, but I feel, for me, it was handled pretty good in this book.

Other than those small things, the actual plot, and over all story telling was great. It was unique, original and like I said, darker then I thought it would be. There’s a bit of a mystery, and of course there is the whole, is Christopher really not like the rest of his family? Or is he leading the Wolff’s into a false sense of security, to strike.? It was a nice added touch, making the plot a little suspenseful and thrilling. Not going to tell you Christopher’s deal, you’re just going to have to find out on your own if he’s the linchpin, or the demon.

With the being said, this book did hook me enough to continue on with the series. I need to know what happens next! So please take my recommendation, and my stamp of approval that you will get capture by this rare take on shifters and, how they came to be.

Happy Reading

This was my first book by this author and what a story! I was skeptical at first but once the first chapter gets going it was tough to put down.
Kat is seventeen and on the cusp of having her first Transformation. Her family is different and in a feud with another for as long as they can remember. We see Kat and her amazing abilities, which were downright awesome!
I’ve never read a shifter book that had other things than animals so this was a surprise! I loved the family, but was left with questions. Like what’s Granny doing in her sewing room? And that cliffhanger ugh I need more!

I give Transformations: The Shifter Series: Volume One (The Shifters Book 1) by Cari Schaeffer, 5 stars.

Katherine Wolff just wants to be a normal teenager. But that’s not to be. She comes from a powerful family of shifters. Ones who have been fighting with another family for a long, long time. When she comes into her powers, she will have to leave her normal life and do what she is told. But she doesn’t want to. Nor does she believe what her elders tell her. Is she right or will she learn just how wrong she was?

This is a wonderful fantasy book filled with shifters, love, loss and plenty of action. The Wolff family is so great, I feel like I want to be a part of this family. Katherine is your normal teenager really. Until she no longer can be. Then she quickly grows up and her family pulls together to protect themselves. The story itself captivates you and does not let go until the end. Then you want to quickly grab the next book!!

A wonderful read, I highly recommend this book to all young adult and older ages.

Great start to this Shifters series. Forbidden romance and unknown shifting, are all part of growing up in the shifters world. Welcome this Paranormal Romance!

Katherine Wolff is growing into her body. She is facing the unknown in her world. What changes she will be taking on and dealing with those changes. She is a strong character in this story. Being around her siblings, and watching them change has helped. But she knows she will have no other choice . Then let’s throw in a twist, of forbidden love. There you go Story to be told.

Cari Schaeffer made this story fun as well as funny. I love granny’s sense of humor. This story is loaded with action, and all the feels. Happy, sad, laughter, and sense of belonging. Something this story needed to lighten the seriousness of changing into their shifter side. I just love this story. I will be happy to read the next books in this series. Job well done.

Transformations: The Shifter Series: Volume One (The Shifters Book 1)
By Cari Schaeffer
I really enjoyed reading this book. I think it was very well thought out and had wonderful detail. I think the emotions that Katherine was going through about wanting to be normal and fit in like most teenagers is an emotion that most teenagers and adults can relate to. Katherine and her family are pretty close and protective of each other. When Christopher comes into their lives they aren’t sure if they can or should trust him, because he is part of a family that has been their enemy for a very long time. This book kept me enthralled and entertained. There are plenty of different emotions throughout this story and they all flow so well. I found that I liked this author’s writing style and I will definitely be reading more books by this author, especially the next book in this series. I have been sucked in now and I need to know what happens next!! I recommend this book for all ages I believe everyone can enjoy it as I have.

This is the first book that I have read from this author and wow, it was good. There are two families that have been at war for centuries; the Barotkoffs who are magical and the Wolffs who are shifters. Katherine is seventeen and her transformation has started. Coming into her powers has not been easy and she is scared to shift. She just wants to be normal. She finally meets a guy who is everything she could ask for and he turns out to be a Barotkoff! Her family will never accept her attraction to one of their mortal enemies. Will their forbidden love be allowed to blossom?

The thing I found really interesting is the explanation the author gave for how they came into their powers. It was different and original. I found that the story was a little slow to start but once it did, it took off. It is a shifter story with a cool twist. Each character had a distinct personality that brought something to the story. It ends in a shocking cliffhanger that has me itching to read the next part in the series.

Transformations is the first book in The Shifter Series by Cari Schaeffer. It is a paranormal shifter story with a bit of a twist. It has quite an original premise and is definitely not the usual shifter fare. I was intrigued by what the story would reveal, and curious to see where everything would lead. This is a tale of a feud between two powerful shifter families that has spanned many generations and hundreds of years. No one really knows exactly what happened to cause the war between them, but the battle lines are still drawn and tensions continue to this day! All of this is woven around a interesting coming of age story.
The story is told from several points of view which really help to build the bigger picture. There was a lot of information and characters, and at times I did question whether ALL of the information and scenes were necessary, as some of the details seemed unwarranted and superfluous to the story.
We meet Katherine Wolff (Kat) and her quirky, close-knit family. At seventeen, she’s one of the younger members of her clan. Her abilities have yet to emerged and she is both expectantly wondering what her ‘powers’ will be, and wishing that she could just be ‘normal’. It’s been many years since the Wolff’s have encountered their enemy, the Barotkoff family- but it’s expected that they will eventually strike again.
When a handsome and mysterious stranger pops up with a warning that the Wolff’s are in peril, it doesn’t take long before things take on a dangerous turn. It turns out that the mysterious stranger is in fact part of their rival family. Christopher Barotkoff swears he is nothing like his family and only wants to help the Wolff’s. But can they really trust him? Is there something more to his sudden appearance? And when things start to heat up between Kat and him, can she trust him with her heart?
The story had some great banter, funny quips and antics which added another element of entertainment to the overall storyline. This book has very long chapters and the story was a little slow to get going. I felt there was too much time spent on character introductions and exploring the Wolff’s family dynamics, and life. I didn’t feel like the ‘story’ actually started till about the 9th chapter. The book ends on somewhat of a cliffhanger and I will definitely be reading the next book, “Transgressions”, to see how everything turns out.

Thank you, Ms. Schaeffer!
