Flipping the Bird: A Paranormal Chick Lit Novel (Shift Creek Book 1) By Carrie Pulkinen 4 Stars
This is a lighthearted, funny tale about a crow shifter trying to save her town. The town of Shift Creek is a mixture of shifters and humans. The creek that runs through it was blessed with healing qualities for all shifters. Unfortunately, the spell is tied to a family of warlocks, the Rainecourts. Thirty years ago, after the death of his wife, Martin left the town with his two sons. Slowly but surely, the magic has been dwindling and now it’s at a critical level. Alice is trying her best to find a solution but it seems they really need a Rainecourt. When someone moves into the Rainecourt House, Alice’s hopes get raised once again only to be dashed when she finds out his name is Donovan Drake. There is more to Donovan than he is letting on, he has his secrets to protect. Read the book to find out what they are.
I absolutely love Carrie Pulkinen. Her books are interesting and funny. There is always romance with a supernatural twist. The story is quirky and interesting. The characters are likeable and relatable. The addition of Marty the farting mongoose had me in stitches. I believe that this is a great start to this series.

Carrie Pulkinen’s paranormal romance novel Flipping The Bird is an enchanting tale set in a small town called Shift Creek. The town received its name from the magical creek that reversed its flow on the full moon. The inhabitants of the town are magical beings that can shift to an animal form, like Alice’s ability to become a crow and her friend’s ability to change to a raccoon. Unfortunately the creek is in jeopardy as the warlock that enchanted the water is dead and only his family bloodline of Rainecourts can manage the creek. Sadly, his two known sons think very little of the town and refuse to help. One day a new inhabitant of the abandoned Rainecourt mansion appears. Donovan Drake automatically attracts Alice and she changes to her crow form to investigate who he is. She sees he has a talking mongoose familiar and she automatically assumes he is a warlock. When she leaves from his balcony she picks up a shiny green amulet from his trash can. Little does she know that the amulet is a necessity for Donovan as his magic powers are locked and he has less than a month to prevent losing them forever. Donovan runs into Alice at her store and both immediately feel a connection. The remainder of the book shows the building of a romantic relationship between the two. Does Donovan show his true issue with his powers and his heritage? Does Alice discover the power held in the amulet? Will Shift Creek lose its magic powers and disappear?
I found that Flipping The Bird was a very quick read as I finished it in one sitting. The explicit sexual content as well as the profanity makes this story for mature readers. I enjoyed the witty humor that Pulkinen included with the story. The ending of the story was an unexpected one but I felt that it was a bit rushed. I would have liked the descriptions of the scenery to be more thorough and the dialogue to have been better developed. I did like the overall story but wished the book was longer.

Flipping the Bird: A Paranormal Chick Lit Novel (Shift Creek Book 1) by Carrie Pulkinen. Ok this book was everything I was looking for in a great read! The characters were so easy to connect with and they pulled me in right from the get go. Usually I have to really be in the mood for paranormal type books like really in the mood but this one sounded fun so I figured what the heck. And boy was I not disappointed. It was a great storyline that had me so captured I lost track of time and I was completely fine with that. It was fun getting lost with these characters. It’s well written and paced nicely. Can’t wait to see where this author takes readers next. Five stars all the way and highly recommended!

Flipping the Bird: A Paranormal Chick Lit Novel (Shift Creek Book 1) By Carrie Pulkinen
This was a great read. It kept me entertained throughout. I found it funny, romantic, a bit mysterious and it had wonderful characters. Alice and Donovan were keeping secrets from each other for various reasons and they could have avoided a lot of headaches if they would have been honest from the start, but of course what fun would that be. I really enjoyed the banter and playfulness between Alice and Megan. Donovan and Alice had an instant attraction, but can anything come of it? This is a must read to fid out what happens to these characters and their town. I highly recommend this book, I can’t wait to read what’s next.

I really do love Carrie Pulkinen’s work and her books always find a way to consume me wholly as I read them. I was a small touch hesitant to start Flipping the Bird as I am not huge into shifter stories. I must say Pulkinen pulled this off magnificently and I adored every moment I spent in Shift Creek. I even can say I look forward to seeing what else this series will bring us. Flipping the Bird is not your typical shifter read and it really layers the aspects of rom-com chick-lit, mystery, paranormal and more, to make the story engaging and mesmerizing. I loved that these characters although very imaginary felt very real and possible. This had me laughing out loud and hoping for the main two to find the love. So snuggle up with a blanket and good drink and dive into Alice’s story. It will be one you won’t want to put down!

I am enjoying these quick little books by Carrie Pulkinen. If I need to escape for a little while, I will pick up one of her books and read it. Her book contains fun characters and interesting plotlines. This book is about Alice who just happens to be a crow shifter. The magical stream is drying up. Donovan, a magical warlock, has a mysterious past with the town. He does not want his connection to be found out. There is a small problem, Donovan is starting to fall for Alice. Will there be a relationship between Alice and Donovan? Will the town find out Donovan’s secret? Will the town’s magical stream dry up? I highly recommend this story to find out these answers and more entertainment ahead.

Flipping the Bird by Carrie Pulkinen a fantastic five-star read. This is the first story in the new shift creek series, as always with this author there are witty lines and characters you will adore especially a certain Moose, who I found weirdly adorable. But it was main character Alice who won me over and kept me hooked, her whole ethos just won me over, there is a little of everything in this story and it will just keep you going. This shows great promise for what I am sure will be an amazing series as always from this author.

Finders Reapers: A Paranormal Romantic Comedy (New Orleans Nocturnes #4) by Carrie Pulkinen
This is the first book I’ve read by the author. Pulkinen is a fantastic writer and I can’t wait for more of her work.
Jasmine is an necromancer and can do things others find odd. She isn’t normal nor has she ever been normal. She doesn’t scare easily and is waiting to face a challenge. The quote I chose for Jasmine is: “Don’t get all alpha male on me now, mister. We’re a team. We’ll do it together… after we do something else.”
Asher is a reaper and afraid of his feelings for Jasmine. What he doesn’t know is his fate is already set in stone. His boss is helping out making sure Asher gets where he’s supposed to. The quote I chose for Asher is: “And I’ll listen to you. From now on, we work together. Deal?”

What a sweet romantic read! I loved reading about Asher and Jasmine. When the hot reaper takes a holiday to escape the ghost start to pile up! This causes problems for Jasmine and Asher that they may have to work together to solve! Will they be able to set aside their differences to get the ghosts back where they belong? What made Death want to take a vacation in the first place? This is a great fast read!

Finders Reapers: A Paranormal Romantic Comedy (New Orleans Nocturnes Book 4) by Carrie Pulkinen, is another fine little paranormal Romance. Always a quick read full of humor and sass. Jasmine and Asher start out on a wrong foot, and it doesn’t help that neither one can just be honest with one another. Why do we do that? Communication can solve a boatload of problems. A little bit of mature audience only going on in this tale but not enough to overload the story.

This story was so different than anything I have read in a while. The characters were well written and the story had a decent pace to it. The narrator did a good job doing the different characters, this was a first time listening to him. I liked the inventiveness of the story itself with the realms and the different types of situations everyone can handle, I was intrigued through the whole book.

I have read a few books from this author but she continues to blow my mind. I absolutely love paranormal romance but she always exceeds my expectations. This is the fifth book of the New Orleans nocturnal series. This book could be read as a stand alone but there are previous characters in this story as well. I was so excited to read this book I stopped everything and started to read it immediately. I could not put this book down until the end. It only took me a few hours to devour this awesome book.
Asher needs a break from being the reaper so he goes on vacation. He is having fun but he leaves his door unattended which is a big problem. Asher doesn’t realize that someone escapes from the underworld which causes even more problems. He then has to get help from the one girl that gives him butterflies, Jasmine. She is a necromancer and she can tame usually any ghost but when Asher’s door gets locked she has to help him figure out a way to get these ghosts back. Will Asher and Jasmine figure out how to open his door or will they have to answer to the devil himself?

This is the story of Asher and Jasmine, one a reaper and the other a necromancer, they both deal with the dead, but they do get in each other’s way, but when Asher takes a vacation and leaves his door unattended, the ghosts know of only one other person who can help and much to her annoyance, it is Jasmine.
Jasmine opens the story at the morgue she works in, she is helping a couple of werewolves find out if someone died after being attacked by one of their kind, or whether it was just a normal dog, so she calls the spirit back from the other side to briefly reinhabit his body and give them the answers they are looking for, it is not the most pleasant of things to do, but as a necromancer, Jasmine is used to it, even if her clients normally end up throwing up in the bin. She asks if they want to go for drinks after the soul has been returned to the aether, but after what they just saw, it’s a resounding no, infact, it’s more often than not a no, people don’t like to associate with people who are around the dead a lot, this train of thought reminds her about Asher and how he ran a mile when she kissed him and asked him out, but when she goes to leave the morgue, she finds that the spirit she was talking to earlier is still waiting around by stepping through the poor guy and feeling like he sucked the energy right out of her, it turns out, that;s exactly what he was doing, a fun little weakness necromancers have. He starts talking to Jasmine and saying that he can’t find the light and neither can some other ghosts, but when they do find their way to it, the door is locked, Jasmine says that she will talk to the reaper for him, but has to go to a bachelorette party first.
Meanwhile, Asher is swimming in the sea and trying to get back to shore, he now knows why the no swimming sign was there, even being an immortal, he had struggled against the riptide, but now he is back safely on the beach, he thinks about why he made this impromptu trip to off season Aruba, it is to get his mind away from his emotions and a certain necromancer who he is trying to avoid and not think about how she makes him feel, reapers don’t usually have emotions and he always tried to play by the rules, but sometimes he just needed a break from reaping souls. So, drink in hand, he sat on his lounge chair and soaked up the sun, that us until another reaper materialises and questions him about his motives for being there, this led to more thoughts about how he is different from the other reapers and how he was scared that he may be falling for a necromancer and that would mean their fates would end up tied and he would become mortal and die, but was that something he wanted? It is during the conversation about how he had left his door unlocked with a fairy light on it that the consequences of that light attracting a spirit to cross back over from the other side, it is at this point that Asher rushes to check his phone and when that fries with all the notifications, he hopes that it doesn’t mean that his home is overrun as well.
It is when he gets back and realises that his door is locked that he calls in a favour to check what has happened in hell and indeed finds out that a ghost has escaped from his door and that it is the one who will cause the most problems for him, so when he asks Jasmine for help, she initially refuses him because of their past, however, when the ghosts keep coming to her for answers, she realises that helping Asher will be the only way that she can get some peace and quiet while also keeping her energy. Can this unlikely pairing work together to help the souls move on, or will the one who escaped keep causing more trouble than they bargained for? This is a romantic comedy with a whole slew of ghostly happenings and unusual elements added into the mix, but the end is only found by following along with their spiritual capers.

What a fun paranormal romance read. I really enjoyed following along with Donovan and Marty as they meat Alice. The little misunderstandings between the two are perfect to give the story a little extra drama, but the main focus was getting the creek fixed. Seeing their relationship grow and the sacrifices they are willing to make together to save the town is sweet. Marty, Donovan’s familiar, is a nice bit of comic relief and I found it hilarious that he had a gas issue. I look forward to seeing what is in store next, hoping it is the story of Alice’s friend Megan.

Another really enjoyable read from this series – I really like reading these books they are so funny and entertaining. The author has a great writing style that captures tour attention from the very beginning. I loved the banter between the characters; they had me laughing out loud so many times. The storyline was great, the Grim Reaper and a Necromancer – probably not two characters you would expect but they were great together. I loved the twists in the story it definitely made it less predictable than I was anticipating. I really hope there’s more to come from this New Orleans Nocturnes series from Ms Pulkinen – I am definitely loving these stories!

I give Finders Reapers: A Paranormal Romantic Comedy (New Orleans Nocturnes Book 5) by Carrie Pulkinen, 5 stars.
This series is great. Each book reminds me how much I love this author and series. Finders Reapers is yet another win. We met these characters briefly in other books, but now it’s their turn to shine, and they do such a spectacular job. I instantly fell in love with Jasmine, she is quirky and fun with a good heart. Both of them are just misunderstood beings who long for another. The struggle with them is so interesting to watch as it progresses. Not to mention the problem going on within their beloved city. This book has all you would love in a fun package — supernatural beings, fun, action, and romance. I hope this series never ends.
If you are a fan of quirky supernatural romance, this book and series are for you. It can be read as a standalone, but the whole series is so fantastic, you should really read them all.

This is my first audio by this author and narrator and I thought it was a great one. I loved the angels and humans mix of it and it was entertaining and it kept me interested because I havent read a story about guardians before. The two main characters were great MC’s. They had alot going on and ALOT of baggage but I love the enemies to lovers aspect and I couldn’t put this one down. I am looking forward to reading/listening to more by this author and the same for the narrator too! Happy Listening!

Finders Reapers is part of the New Orleans Nocturnes series. It can be read as a standalone. I loved the premise of this book! It turned out to be a great read. One of my favorite expressions from the books is Holy Phantom Farts…cracked me up! There is a wonderful witty feel to this story that balances out the more serious parts. The characters in this book are really well written. I felt sorry for Jasmine, leading the lonely life of a necromancer. And, Asher, wants to love, but initially doesn’t want to make the sacrifice to have it. Finders Reapers features ghosts, magic, drama, suspense, and of course, romance.

Flipping the Bird (book one in the Shift Creek series) by Carrie Pulkinen was a great read! I was absolutely riveted with this novel. This is the first book I’ve read from Pulkinen before and it makes me wonder why I haven’t picked up any of her books before. The characters were great and full of personality. The book was full of comedy and sarcasm and just awesomeness. I fell in love with the small town setting. This is a shifter novel unlike any I’ve read before and I really enjoyed it. I can’t wait to read more in the future!

Flipping the Bird: A Paranormal Chick Lit Novel by Carrie Pulkinen is from the new series Shift Creek. This book is a delightfully entertaining paranormal read. I flew through the adventures of crow shifter, Alice Crawford and warlock, Donovan Drake as they try to save Shift Creek’s waterway. I always enjoy the books of this author. She always has some humour to go along with her realistic characters. Alice is funny but well-meaning. She just wants to save the community she loves. Donovan is new to the community but he wants to find his place in the world. I look forward to reading more in this series soon and this author.

Alice Crawford is a crow shifter who enjoys dumpster diving for people’s trash which she can turn into someone else’s treasure through her art and Donovan Drake is a warlock who has just inherited the deed to a mansion, but when both of them meet, it is not what they expected in the slightest.
The story starts with Alice stuck in a hunters trap she has unwittingly been caught in thanks to her crow’s inability to ignore something shiny! As her best friend comes to her rescue, although she is giggling as much as a racoon can, she shifts and helps her out of the trap and to the creek where she can heal in its magical waters, it does take longer to heal than it used to and this worries the two friends even more than the trap did, it seems to be that the creek is getting worse, it slowly had been for the last few months and it had not been shifting its direction like it should either. The town is known for this shift in direction and it is also its namesake, but now that it is getting smaller and less powerful, the tourism they rely on is stopping and it is making it difficult for the town to survive and no matter who has tried to reinvigorate it, nobody has been able to help, it turns out that only a member of the towns founding family and unfortunately they can’t be contacted.
As she returns home from the creek, she is distracted by a light on in that family’s mansion and she decides to go and investigate, but when she gets there, she sees that it isn’t who she was expecting, but he is a bit of eye candy nonetheless, but when she sees the talking mongoose who is with him, she is even more confused, especially when said mongoose attacks her and tries to eat her, lets just say she is not happy and attacks him in a way only a bird can. She decides to leave after that, but is distracted by something shiny in the bin and as that is something she can take, she does.
The nest day, she goes into work and talks to her best friend about the information she had gleaned about the new arrival which she found out that morning, but it not what either of them were hoping for, he isn’t a member of the family and that puts them back to square one, but when the bell goes to say someone has come into the shop, they hide that disappointment. Donovan decides to go into town with his mongoose and familiar Marty and have a coffee while he thinks about his situation and how the town’s magical creek might be able to help, but is distracted by the cloud of noxious gas his familiar has released, he decides that to find the amulet he has lost and when he spots the salvage art shop across the road, he decides to go and ask them and ask for some advice. This is where the story takes and unusual turn as a magical accident occurs during the conversation and Alice’s crow transfers to Donovan and he shifts into the form, this is as surprising as it gets and as they try to catch him, Marty escapes and causes more chaos, when things return to something like normal, then Donovan asks Alice to go to dinner with him to try and figure out what happened.
Will this be the beginning of a beautiful romance, or will secrets and their pasts come back to haunt them and will Shift Creek lose it’s namesake or can a solution be found? This is a heartwarming tale of mishaps, discovery, romance and revelations which will have you laughing along the way.
