Taming Beckett (The Playmakers Series Hockey Romances Book 1) by G.K. Brady – Review by Christie Mitchum

Taming Beckett (The Playmakers, #1)Taming Beckett by G.K. Brady
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Taming Beckett was an enjoyable romance with complicated and complex characters. If this book is any indication, then I predict this is going to be a great series!

The book took off right from the very first pages. Beckett is a talented and skilled hockey player, but he doesn’t seem to have control off of the ice. Now, he finds himself in a lot of trouble, something that could put an end to his successful career. Paige is successful as well, but like Beckett, not so much in her personal life. Although her problems aren’t created by her but by her husband who has no idea how lucky he is to be married to her. She and Beckett met years ago in college, and she was the only girl who didn’t fall for him. She wasn’t much of a fan of his then, and when they meet again, she still isn’t a fan. However, as they find themselves spending more time together when she becomes his realtor, they begin to form a friendship with the promise of so much more if they can overcome the obstacles standing in their way.

Both Beckett and Paige are complicated characters. The author, G.K. Brady, did a fantastic job of revealing their complexities with each chapter. I wasn’t quite sure how I would feel about Beckett when I read the first chapter. I was not his biggest fan, to say the least. On the other hand, I was a big fan of Paige. I felt like she deserved so much more than her husband was giving her. I was hoping Beckett would find the strength to turn his life around, and I was hoping Paige would have the strength to stand up for herself. I liked the fact that Brady didn’t rush that aspect of the story, and she didn’t really rush the romance. It was a slow burn, and I liked that their relationship was built on the foundation of a strong friendship. I’m not saying there weren’t bumps along the way to their HEA, because there were quite a few. In my opinion, that strong foundation helped them find their way to each other.

I LOVED the epilogue. It was many, many years later, and I liked that a lot. I always like to see how characters are doing in the future before having to tell them goodbye. Brady is a new writer to me, and I’m looking forward to reading more books written by her.

Murder on Oak Street ( A South Shore Mystery Book 1) by I.M. Foster – Review by Christie Mitchum

Murder on oak streetMurder on oak street by I. M. Foster
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I like nothing better than a good murder mystery, and I certainly got Agatha Christie vibes from the synopsis, and I.M. Foster didn’t disappoint.

I usually don’t go into too much detail when reviewing thrillers or mysteries as I don’t want to spoil anything! As the synopsis indicates, coroner Daniel O’Halleran is in need of a change. His job has him frustrated, and to add insult to injury, the woman he thought he would spend forever with just left him standing at the altar. He most definitely needs a change. So, when his help is needed in a small village, he jumps at the chance! However, he doesn’t realize how his pace of life is about to change. The past comes roaring back when he is asked to look into an old murder case that he just so happened to be a part of. When a new murder occurs, he thinks the two may be somehow connected.

The writing was fantastic as were the characters! The story may have started off just a wee bit slow, but once I got going, it was addictive. There were plenty of twists and turns, and I loved going back to the beginning of the 1900s. All those things combined made for a great historical mystery!

I am really excited that this is the beginning of a series. I’m really looking forward to reading future books as this promises to be a fantastic series!!!!
