Once again a good story by Alexander Charalambides. The story of Rowena and Vincenzo just gets better and better. This story had a few twists and turns but that just made it very interesting. My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the next installment of the Vampire State books and it is just as good as the first book, it is full of twists and turns with everything being still in shades of grey and black and as confusing as ever when we rejoin Rowena and Vincenzo as they are getting to grips with their new life living together away from their families in an apartment in one of the Pale areas of the city. It is raining the usual black rain and Rowena is slowly getting used to the different light levels in daytime and nighttime in the city without a sun. She is waiting for Vincenzo to come home, so while she is waiting she checks in on her dad to see how he is finding life as a Pale since he became a citizen, he is enjoying it and the lifestyle and the perks of being a Pale and a politician, he asks after them and then hangs up and by this time Vincenzo is home. They have some toast and settle in to talk about his day and look at the news channels sitting on the sofa together, this includes the backlash from their recent legalisation of citizenship without having to become a Pale, they also discuss Flavius Fortis and the ULA and how they are gaining popularity since the vote, it is looking like they are stirring the pot and blaming it on the humans and the Prince of Kemet and his upcoming trip to Sanguinia.

The next morning Rowena heads out to start her new job at Gargoyle, a Sanguinian news network as their first human contributor which Vincenzo has pulled some strings to get her, she is nervous and sets of early to get there on time and it is a good things she did as she gets slowed down by a protest on the highway, as she is passing by she sees the officers dragging away a sign saying “Honor and Virtue”, but does not dwell on it while she is too stressed out about her first day. When she gets there she decides to give everyone who works there the benefit of the doubt, so she starts this with the Pale on reception whom she asks where to go to get to the offices and when she gets there, she is directed to the editor’s office by another Pale Ernesto. When she meets Corsi she is dismissed after a short introduction to her role at the paper and follows Ernesto to where her new office will be, which is an unusual thing for a new hire, she is told it is because she is famous, yet another thing for her to think about later on. Not surprisingly, there is a post it note with her login details on so that she can access her computer, so when that is done and remembering that part of her role will be on the screen as a presenter, she decides to go and explore the other floors of the building and meet some of the people she’ll be presenting the shows with.

It is busy on the floor she needs, there are Pale’s everywhere with clipboards, headsets and microphones, as well as other equipment, so Rowena passes by the editing suites until she finds the main broadcast room and Titus Serverus, the Pale she will be on screen with, he shows her round the room and warns her about the producer and then as it is lunch time, she asks to join him and ask him more questions about himself and Gargoyle. After Titus excuses himself and Rowena finished exploring, it seems like a good first day and after a few weeks of settling into the job and writing some articles, it is time for her first televised debate against Titus and just before they go on air, Titus leans in closely, covers her microphone and threatens her, he is hoping to throw her off her game and he almost does, but Rowena holds her own and manages to get through the debate and decides that the way she can win against him and others with the same viewpoint is to keep her job and as Titus corners her after the debate, she tells him just that and no matter what he says, she will do things on her own terms. It is when she speaks to Vincenzo about the experience and he didn’t think it was as bad as she thought, although he was supportive, she still ended up angry at the world, her position in it and him and the knowledge that she still had to go back to Gargoyle despite that. It is when she is pulled into Corsi’s office and is told that there have been complaints made about her from the public that she knows her suspicions were dead on and that the only thing she can do is to take a leap and say that she can get an interview with the only other thing that the current news networks are craving, the Prince of Kemet and now she just has to put a plan together to get it.

Has Rowena dug herself a hole which is too deep for her to dig herself out of? Will she survive this next round of political intrigue and will she still be able to stay her individual self? Only by reading the book can these questions be answered.

In City Without A Sun (Vampire State Book 2) by Alexander Charalambides, we join Rowena in the next stage of her journey as she struggles for human rights in a city of vampires. As the only human that has ever been granted an audience with their emperor you would think they would be knocking down her door. But such is not the case. This is a great second book to this series. This one is a bit of a tease I can’t wait to read the next one.

This book takes place approximately one year after Vampire State. Rowena is trying her best to fit into Sanguinian Society but hasn’t found her place yet. Vincent pulls some strings and gets her a job as a journalist for the news network Gargoyle. As you can imagine, things don’t exactly go according to plan. The whole of Sanguinia doesn’t want the truth, they want their version of it. Having to deal with an uncaring boss and hostile coworkers, Rowena tries her best to make a difference.

There were new characters added in this book, Antet and Titus. I believe they gave a new depth to the story. Although the book is still political, it’s less so than the first. I enjoyed it more because of this, there was more of a story to it. Rowena is still pretty list and clueless but towards the end she found some courage. I’m looking forward to seeing what she’s capable of in the next part.

City Without A Sun (Vampire State Book 2) by Alexander Charalambides. I think one of my favorite things about this series is it’s not a cookie cutter vampire storyline. This author definitely point their own spin and made this series a bit more unique in my opinion and I love it. I recommend reading these in order. The storyline is complex and well written with characters that pull you in so far you are happy to be lost with them for a while. The author put just the right mix of drama, action and romance in these books that I feel it would be enjoyable to anyone no matter their reading preferences. It’s well thought out and paced nicely with great characters. I’m excited to see where this series goes next. Four stars and highly recommended.

I was so ready to get my hands on this second book in the Vampire State Series from Alexander Charlambides. I do recommend that you read the first book before diving into City Without A Sun, but if Paranormal Vampire Romance is your thing this is the series for you. This book is action packed and keeps you engrossed so much that you feel as if you are right there with the characters in the midst of this war. I loved the world building and how I was sucked in so much that I read well into the night late to find out what would happen with Rowena this time. I won’t give too much more away that the synopsis already does but I can assure you this is one you do not want to miss. I am anxious to get my hands on the next book!

I really enjoy Charalambides’s writing style and am thoroughly enjoying how this series continues to develop. This is not the overdone or predictable vampire fiction that seems to be mass produced at times. Charalambides has put together a fresh and original tale that continues to pull you in and keep you glued to the pages. I have loved this series so far and cannot wait to see how it continues to develop. Another winner!

This is the second book in the series Vampire State. I highly suggest reading the first book to understand what is going on better. Alexander Charalambides put a lot of details in her story to build a world that captures your interest from the page until the last page. The storyline takes you on a roller coaster ride of emotions. The characters are complex and have many levels of their personality. The characters are what make this story to life. I really like Rowena’s character. She isn’t afraid to take on challenges. She pairs up with Vincenzo to find out what is going on in their progress that they have made. This story is full of adventure and some romance. This is definitely one of the series that you do not want to miss.

City Without A Sun is the second book in the Vampire State series by Alexander Charalambides. This series really does take vampire lore and shake it up a bit- giving an original and intriguing take on vampire stories. But it is so much more than just a vampire story, with plenty of drama, danger, action, adventure, mysteriousness, surprising developments, politics, agendas, social commentary, wonderful paranormal elements, and superb world-building. There is definitely a bit of a dark dystopian feel to the series, which I love. and more. It felt a little dystopian and dark at times. But that added to the whole atmosphere.
This was an interesting story- complex and dynamic. Though it was a little slow going at times- the story was intriguing enough to keep me invested in the outcome. Even though this book is set around a year after the events in books one, Vampire State, I would really recommend reading book one before starting on this one as having all that storyline and information will definitely give you a better appreciation of this book.
A lot has happened between the events in book one and now. Our characters have to navigate many changes- personal, social, as well as political. I really enjoyed following along to find out how everything played out. Definitely looking forward to more of this series.

Thank you, Alexander Charalambides!

This is the second book in the Vampire State Series. Its a story that completely drags you and and keeps you gripped to the end. There is a paranormal element and also a romance story. There is also a story about prejudice between groups of people and how some people will fight to make everyone equal.

Rowena  has accepted a job at a news station as her boyfriend advised. The plan is to keep getting across the message of equality for vampires and humans. But the vampires around her aren’t so happy with this change and they make their feelings known.

After her interview with a prince leads to her becoming famous and her views becoming more well known this is just the position she needs to be. But will this mean that humans will stay safe and free or will her co worker Titus turn everyone against her and against her views.

Add to the mix the connection she has with the Prince this causes a rift between Rowena and Vincent. Can they work through it and stay strong together or will their relationship fall apart to?

I am the queen of reading books out of order. This is the second book in the series and I have to admit that I was missing a bit of context but that did not really interfere with my enjoyment of this book. The author has quite a refreshing idea and I like their take on vampires and humans. I found that there was just enough drama that I was glued to this book.

I really could get into Rowena’s character. I like how she is the underdog really and has an uphill battle to try and make things better for humans in a vampire led society. I like that she has a very reliable friend base. I like how the author brings the characters to life like they jump off of the pages. I look forward to reading more from this author and series.

This is a full length contemporary romance at its fullest. Well let’s not forget the battle between vampires and humans. The disrespect of women as well as slavery. But… Rowena is not about to let this go. This is her strength shining through. Read on as she works her way through this challenging report. Also find out what happens with Vincenzo and Rowena! What a romance they plunge into. Or do they? This is a must read, also make sure to read book 1 in this exciting series.

While Alexander Charalambides is new to me, his story has found me a new author. I loved meeting his characters, especially Rowena and Vincenzo. This is a fast paced read! I could not turn the pages fast enough. Alexander also made his characters strong and not dependent on others. Oh and let’s not forget those hot vampires. The characters are strong and connectable. They made the story easy to read and kept it engaging. I enjoyed how they brought the story to life and pulled me right into the story. I loved reading the book City Without A Sun (Vampire State Book 2) by Alexander Charalambides. It is a story that has a wonderful storyline and amazing characters. I love the character of Rowena. She is a human who is intelligent, independent, and strong. This book has her starting a new job, trying to get a human perspective out in the open, and taking on new responsibilities. How will a conflict between her and another co-worker work out? What will happen when a mysterious prince takes an interest in her? This is a story that had me turning pages to find out what was going to happen next. There is suspense and mystery. The book has moments when I was angry with the way Rowena is treated as well as how there are those with agendas that threaten all the hard work that she does. I also enjoyed reading about many of the other characters that are included in the story. I loved this second book just as much as the first. It is exciting and entertaining to read. The author does a wonderful job of making me feel like I am right there with the characters. I highly recommend reading it.

Ignored by crew and her superiors, Rowena looks for a new way to make a difference and, betting on a long shot, she aims to interview the mysterious prince of Kemet. The prince is young, charming, intelligent, and just as invested in improving life for the humans in Sanguinia as Rowena is herself.
Hitting it off with the prince just as a gulf forms between Rowena and Vincenzo, her exclusive interview with foreign royalty is set to propel her to overnight stardom, but can Rowena hold onto the connections she needs to keep Sanguinia’s humans safe and free, or will Titus sweep away her efforts and usher in a new age of hatred and violence?
