The Anchor Knot: Securing the Knot is the third book in the Knot series by DonnaLee Overly. This is the first book that I have read by Ms. Overly, so I really wasn’t sure of what to expect from one of her stories, but the blurb promised something a little different from what I have been reading of late, so I took a chance and grabbed a copy to explore.
It is a contemporary woman’s fiction story with drama, secrets, romance, agendas, family, meddling, responsibility, ambition, pressure, challenges, doubts, choices, emotion, following your heart, and more.
This book had all the ingredients that I normally love to find in a story- but I just couldn’t connect with the characters and get invested in their story. It was slow to get going and I found it hard not to get distracted by other things as the story wasn’t holding my attention like I had hoped it would. I have been reading a lot of thrillers and darker stories of late, so I wonder if that has affected how I feel about this book. So, having said that, I have decided to revisit this book again soon for a reread to see if I still feel the same way, or if perhaps find that I was just having an ‘off’ reading day. So stay tuned…

4 Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟

This is my first book from this author…and the story was very engaging giving me lots of different feelings that I am still thinking about…clean romance, intrigue, political innuendos, grief, secrets and lies. I am definitely looking forward to reading more and also circling back in this series. This story could be easily read as a standalone…but I would love to start at the beginning to see what this series has to offer.

Gabby King is set to be married to the future to governor of Texas front runner Richard Wright…but not all what it seems when Gabby is constantly juggling a demanding future first lady schedule, a beautiful son and overbearing campaign manager that has her eyes set also on Richard. Gabby had a once in a lifetime love that was lost…but trying to live up to everyones expectations….. Richard and also her own father…the only eye on the prize is that Richard is the next governor of Texas. When lies and secrets are caught…what happens as Gabby and Richard face the test….will they be able to overcome or will Richard’s arrogance come to light and Gabby make herself happy..including a testament from a friend of their love…..

This is a really good woman’s fiction story and it really can empower as woman should be allow to have a voice….this is a really good story.

The Anchor Knot is the sixth book in The Knot series that touches on sensitive and tough issues that women face throughout time. I realised 75% of the way through that this was not the first book in the series, but I felt confident that it could be read as a standalone. I will however go back and start at the beginning.
The Anchors Knot has an emotional storyline that has spanned back to the start of the series. This is the final book in the series where every heartache and joy and hope and pain culminate together. It’s hard not to feel when watching what this character has gone through.
Gaby has silently struggled with the shame and anger but as her secret is about to be exposed, she has gained strength, determination, and confidence to face what is about to come.
To find out if Gaby gets her HEA grab a copy of the first book in The Knot series and work your way through to this book to find out.

Wonderfully written
The Anchor Knot is a story that grips you at the start snd holds you emotionally right until the end. The story is unpredictable and so fulfilling as we follow Gabby as she transforms within the pages from an uncertain, self sacrificing person to an empowered, strong woman. With romance, suspense, secrets, family drama and wonderful characters there is something for everyone. Recommend.

An enjoyable and engaging romance which kept me happily turning the pages. Gabby King is engaged to Richard Wright who is campaigning to be the next governor of Texas, however if the citizens of Texas new that he had a son as the result of an affair with a married woman it would cause a scandal. Although Gabby has her doubts about marrying Richard, her influential father has big plans to put the couple into the governor’s mansion. However, Amanda Jason, Richard’s campaign manger also has her sights on being the Texas First Lady and is willing to do anything to take Gabby’s place. When Gabby is invited to the adventurous world of Formula One Racing whilst on the campaign trail, a talk with a team engineer unsettles her, and could change her future having spoken a surprising truth. Amongst the whirlwind Gabby is caught up in, she’s lost sense of who she actually is, and what she wants from life, but in this story celebrating female empowerment, Gabby needs to listen to her inner voice before it’s too late. Gabby is a wonderful main character who is both likeable and relatable, and I love how her character develops throughout the story, as she finds herself and becomes empowered.

I enjoyed this story. This is book 6 in the series and even though I was able to read it as a standalone I will definately be going going back and reading the other books in the series. This is a really beautifully written emotional story about a woman finally stepping up and becoming the person she wants to be for her sake and her sons.

Gabby has gone through some tough times. After losing the love of her life she is planning on settling down with the father of her baby Richard. Richard and Gabby’s relationship has been on and off and with Richard now running to become the next Governer of Texas, her father sees this as the perfect time for Gabby and Richard to become a married couple. Of course from a security stand point it makes sense. Gabby and her son would want for nothing however the price of that is a high one to pay. Now Gabby is realising that everything she says, does and wears is being scrutinised and she is no long able to think for herself. The worrying part is she isn’t even sure she loves Richard.
But when his campaign manager Amanda tells Gabby that she is the one Richard wants Gabby starts to question their relationship. Does Richard love her? He is having an affair with Amanda? Does Gabby even want to marry Richard?

As the story progresses we see Gabby grow into a strong confident woman who is finally able to stand up to her father and make her own way doing what’s right of her and her son. This story is full of twists that I never saw coming but what I loved the most was watching Gabby grow and reclaim her life back.

The Anchor Knot centers around the story of Gabby who is preparing to marry Richard. Richard is campaigning to be the next governor of Texas and Gabby’s dad wants her to be married to Richard and to live in the governor’s mansion. Gabby and Richard have been an on again, off again relationship and she is unsure if she truly loves him. She married another man whom she loved but he died within a short time of them getting married. Gabby had a child while married but her husband was not the father. The biological father of the child is Richard but if this secret gets out his career in politics could be ruined. When Richard’s Campaign Manager Amanda confronts Gabby, she becomes suspicious of Richard and wonders if he has been faithful to her. It is obvious that Amanda wants to become the next First Lady of Texas and will stop at nothing to make Richard hers. Has Richard been cheating on Gabby with Amanda? Does Gabby truly love Richard? As the campaign continues Gabby learns some truths that leave her world a bit shaken up. Will she have the courage to move forward and do what is best for her and her son?

This book was beautifully written and full of raw emotions. The storyline was intriguing, and the characters were engaging. Reading this story made me realize what life must be like in the spotlight for royalty and for politicians. How much pressure there is to be perfect, to act a certain way, and to dress a certain way. The character of Gabby was someone that I enjoyed watching grow as a person. As fiancé to Richard, she was in the spotlight and given certain rules on how to dress, how to act, and even what to say. Her life was scripted for her, and she was barely able to think for herself. She wanted what was best for her son, wanted to please her father, and wanted to be what others wanted her to be. Gabby did selflessly for others with little thought to her own needs. It was truly beautiful, uplifting, and inspiring to see Gabby flourish and become empowered. I highly recommend this book!

I wasn’t quite sure what I wanted to think of this story. As it started, it felt like a romantic suspense, which it is to a point. Yet, Gabby really grows from a widow trying to please her daddy to coming into her own. She realizes that her life is her own and her son’s. There shouldn’t be secrets or cheating fiancees or conniving managers. Some of the antagonists in this story are truly ones youo just want to hate. It was nice to watch Gabby learn to stand and speak for herself. The twists were not what I saw coming but they fit well. I found this to be a very well-done story that is totally about female empowerment and you can also find happiness. The writing is beautiful and the characters are well-developed. This is womens fiction I would recommend.

Brace yourself for a laugh out loud kind of read and these are characters that become friends ❣️📚

Bailey and Dayton are brother and sister . Bailey has flaws and Dayton has taken it upon himself to “ fix” her flaws which I get to a degree but at the same time I just want to clip him around the ear because live should be unconditional. Bailey works at a frozen yoghurt / ice cream parlor called Froyo , her work friend Marnie has a “ gift” she believes she can match up couples by their choice of frozen yogurt, ice cream and toppings and while I think she may have a magic touch she really had me in stitches at times and she’s a really good friend to Bailey 🫶🏼

Then there’s our local odd ball Tanner who I should say is a good reminder of do not judge a book by its cover , he’s actually a real sweetheart and quite easy on the eye 😉with a heart of gold and one of my favourites ❣️

When the parlour is in trouble they all stand together to save it , which says alot about our little Froyo family and it’s visitors ❣️

I loved that words like “ nincompoop “ are used 🤣I enjoyed copious amounts of frozen delights and their adds ons 🥰 and Bailey I love you just the way you are ! You are uniquely you flaws and all x

Ways to Improve Bailey is best described as a YA RomCom. Bailey has been given a list of how she can improve by her older brother. Also, she has been set up on a date with Tanner, the weirdest guy she probably knows. Will Bailey see how she can grow as a person?
This is an enjoyable story of a monumental time when you are trying to figure out who you are meant to be. Bailey is a fun character because she is relatable and realistic. She has her faults but is not a horrible person. Her brother reminds me of being the oldest sibling. I have my faults, but I easily see the faults of my younger siblings. This is a great read for a teen because it is relatable, fun, and has a good lesson. I enjoy this author’s books and look forward to reading more by her soon.

“Ways to Improve Bailey” by Cori Cooper is a delightful young adult romance set in Flagstaff, AZ. The dynamic between Bailey and her brother is a constant source of laughter, as he takes his role of looking after her seriously and provides her with a list of ways to improve. Through her encounters with a peculiar guy at the yogurt shop where she works, Bailey learns not to judge a book by its cover and discovers important truths about herself. The characters are lovable, the romance is sweet and clean, and the setting creates a great sense of community.

With its fun and loving characters, “Ways to Improve Bailey” offers an enjoyable reading experience. Bailey’s sassy personality and Tanner’s nerdy charm make for a delightful contrast, while Dayton’s insistence on his list for Bailey’s improvement adds a humorous twist. Although the ending may feel a bit rushed, the overall book remains a cute and easy read that leaves readers with a warm and fuzzy feeling.

The first thing I loved about this book was the dynamic between Bailey and her brother. The list of ways to improve herself is such a brother thing to do. She meets Tanner who is a regular customer at her froyo job asks her out and she outright refuses, and then she sees Tanner and her brother, and he adds yet another thing to his list for her to improve on. The synergy between Bailey and Tanner made me laugh till I cried. This book is such a cute story about self-improvement, and putting yourself out there. I loved the word building and the setup. I’m excited to read other books by this author!

Bailey is so sassy and Tanner is so nerdy, while Dayton is just insistent on this list of things Bailey needs to “improve” on. I do not like this list, if someone made me a list, I would make them one right back! Haha! But overall an easy and fun read. The ending seemed rushed, but still such a cute book.

Ways to Improve Bailey

Bailey needed improvement, and thankfully her brother Dayton stepped in and pushed her to make changes so she was a better person.

This ended up being quite the adventure for Bailey and somehow Marnie (her best friend) and Tanner get to go on the adventure.

This was quite the entertaining book and I found myself laughing a few times as I was reading. The sibling dynamic between Bailey and Dayton was spot on with siblings and it me miss my sister.

This was my first time enjoying a book written by Ms. Cooper and I hope not my last.

It all started with a list. Dayton has a list of imperfections for Bailey. Bailey ends up on a little date with Tanner at Froyo. This actually leads to more. There’s a cute, clean romance here. I love the whole story and kind of wished for more indepth of the characters like Tanner, but overall a great read!

This is a clean romance. I haven’t read a clean romance in a bit, and this one was such a well written one. I truly liked Bailey, I felt that she had a great amount of sass and that she was a decent sport with her brother and his list. At first it kind of irked me that her brother had a list about the ways that she could just improve. However, the more I read and the more I thought, the idea really didn’t bother me at all. I don’t know anyone who has a perfect relationship with their siblings and when pressed they probably could produce a long list of ways they wish their sibling could improve. She goes on a date with Tanner due to her brother’s list and what happens next turns into a really wonderful book. This book was very light hearted with characters that definitely dealt with some problems that I could relate to.

This is another fun and entertaining read by an author that knows how to create sweet romances. I think this book has to be one of my favourites by her and the characters are the reason. I loved Bailey and Tanner. Their connection grows over time and it is nice to see how much Bailey was surprised by him. I usually find a little harder to connect with the characters in a clean romance but I was really taken in by these two.
The story was written perfectly for them too. It flowed well and had an easy reading pace to it. This was a thoroughly enjoyable book from a great author.

This was a decent read but why Bailey must listen to her over-involved, controlling brother Dayton, only 18 months older with his own set of issues? When I began this read, I seriously thought the main characters were teenagers because of how they acted, not those in their early 20s. While I understand the concept of this story is to see the maturity of Bailey grow and her becoming a decent human, I just didn’t enjoy how she began her growth journey and didn’t fully evolve her growth into an likeable character. I felt Dayton kept overstepping the brother role and hindering Bailey from actually self reflecting and learning on her own. The character I did enjoy was Tanner and I kept wanting him to run far, far away from the toxicity of Bailey and her brother. But alas, this is a feel good book so we must root for Bailey and Tanner to succeed in love and hopefully Bailey will hit a maturity level that matches her age soon or kick her brother to the curb and be her own individual self. I also enjoy Marnie and her ice cream matchmaking skill. That was a cute addition to this story.

Ways to Improve Bailey by Cori Cooper is a fast-paced clean, romantic comedy. It follows (very) imperfect Bailey as she discovers what it means to improve yourself. Bailey uses her brother’s recommendations – as outlined in his list of improvements for her. I enjoyed the book far more than I guessed I would as I have siblings too! Seriously though, if you want something with a snarky main character and diverse, interesting side ones then give this book a try!

Loved having the list of things her brother has to “improve” Bailey, but didn’t like how they didn’t go in numerical order (just my opinion, felt it was weird). Loved how Bailey is blind to true love and then finds it. Enjoyed the team work aspects of saving Froyo.

Felt parts of the book were stagnant, but overall, i would definitely recommend it and/or read more books by Cori Cooper- felt like Shopaholic or similar (I am not a heavy romance reader) and I appreciated the banter between Bailey and the rest of the characters.

Bailey’s brother has a list of things to make her better. She is a serial dater, dating men (usually only once) just to get to go out to eat. But when a customer of hers ask her out, she shoots him down flat. When she runs into that customer, Tanner, who happens to be with her brother, her brother adds more rules to follow. Bailey then goes out with him, because she can’t break the rules, and ends up enjoying his company.
Opinion
The writing style of this book reminds me of Elizabeth Hayley’s Truth or Dare series. It is quite funny while telling a tale that has many twists and turns.
While her brother meant well, it frustrated me that she would just do what he asked. (There’s little to no chance that I would agree to follow my brother and his list of rules.)
The ending was super sweet and made the read completely worth it.

What a magical book. We all have someone in our lives that tells us you just need to do this better and you’d be perfect. And if it’s not a someone it’s ourselves. Well Bailey had that someone. Pushed by her older brother to be perfect. She accepts a date with tanner. Ugh why tanner she thinks. Unsatisfied with his outward appearance, tanner has a heart of gold.
Sarcasm, quick wit and honesty prove to be the perfect foundation for this everblooming rose.

A really enjoyable read and perfect for teens with clean romance and comedic lines.

Ways to Improve Bailey was so much better than I expected. I got invested right away and didn’t want to put it down, completing in two days and missing some sleep! It is not your every day rom-com. Bailey is funny and sarcastic, and has a love/hate relationship with her brother, Dayton. Her best friend Marnie is quirky but fun. Bailey gets conned into hanging out with Tanner, a daily repeating customer at her job. She thinks he’s a bit odd, but they start to hit it off and soon become good friends. Things take a twist, and the ending is not quite what I enjoyed, but it was perfect. The story takes place in Flagstaff Arizona, which I loved even more. I too, live in Arizona, and it was fun to read about all the places I have been to, and some I have not yet. It made it a little more realistic and me a tad more invested. I look forward to reading more by this author, because they are always great cozy reads I can cuddle on the couch with and get lost for hours.

I began this book and wasn’t sure I was gonna like it. The story kinda started slow for me and I wasn’t thrilled with the characters but then I got to Bailey’s date with Tanner and everything changed for me. I couldn’t put the book down. I loved it. Definitely recommend reading it and if it seems slow do not give up at all on it. It really was a great book.

Bailey’s brother Dayton has taken it upon himself to be Bailey’s self improvement guru. He’s designed a list of her flaws and ways to overcome them. I mean, who wouldn’t want a brother as awesome as Dayton?

Bailey is sassy and a bit immature. She flirts her way into a dinner date every night but never goes with the same guy. She loves food and someday wants to travel the world and write a food blog. All these non-committal dates are starting to come back to bite her hiney though. Lots of jaded guys who see they were taken for a free meal.

Then Tanner starts to frequent the froyo shop where Bailey works and she finds herself committed to a dinner date with him. She can’t get out of it because of the list. Bailey will soon learn that things may not be as they appear and it’s going to take a lot of introspection on her part to see it.

This was a super fun read that young adults will enjoy. It’s a very clean book, one that I wouldn’t have any qualms about letting a 12 year old read (not sure a younger age would enjoy it as much). There are moments where I was laughing at loud and other times I felt that Bailey needed to be turned over someone’s knee (even though she’s in her 20’s). She’s such a spoiled brat!! LOL
