Unexpected by Laylah Abrams – Review by Micalah Weatherholtz

UnexpectedUnexpected by Laylah Abrams
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Having not read anything from this author and being a lover of romance and romantic comedies I was pleasantly surprised by Unexpected. A young socialite and a struggling artist close to losing his scholarship are living very different lives have an instant attraction and don’t want to let each other go despite their differences. This book focuses on their struggles and obstacles that they have to overcome to be together. The characters are well written, and perfectly flawed, just like real life, and I enjoyed how the author brought them to life. I had trouble putting this down.

Ignite My Heart (North Fork Series Book 2)Ignite My Heart by Alicia Street
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I have read a couple of books from this author and she always blows my mind. She always brings her characters to life. This is the second book in the very addictive north fork series. This book can be read as a standalone but there are previous characters in this story as well. I was so excited for this book so I started reading it right away. I could not put this book until the end. It only took me a few hours to devour this amazing story.

Taming Brooklyn (The Club Kings Series Book 1) by Charlotte St. Pierre – Review by Micalah Weatherholtz

Taming Brooklyn (The Club Kings Series Book 1)Taming Brooklyn by Charlotte St. Pierre
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

After reading the blurb of Taming Brooklyn I was still unsure what to expect with this book, I was most certainly not prepared for how involved I would get in this story, and how much I would really enjoy reading it. I mean I finished this book in one day! Brooklyn has a lot of scars because of an incredibly tragic and tumultuous past. She hides herself away and doesn’t enjoy life because she is utterly terrified and embarrassed until one night she agrees to go out dancing with her roommate before she leaves on a work trip and her entire world changes when she meets the Knight brothers. She is enamored with them and her life with them in it until her unfortunate past comes calling. Boy, was this book spicy and definitely shouldn’t be read by anyone under the age of 18 due to the mature content, explicit scenes, many triggers, and violence but it was so much more than that. When you start you are thrown directly into Brooklyns life now and you don’t know much about what has happened in the past but that is slowly remedied throughout the storyline. I’ve read a lot of similar books and nothing I have come across had such spicy, well thought out, tasteful content but followed along with an edge of your seat, nail biting, thrill ride of a story. This was such an enjoyable read! I can’t wait for more!

My Pearl Heart by J.N Sheats
4 out of 5 Stars
My Pearl Heart is a fabulous stand alone novel with a STRONG female lead by the name of Jasmine. Jasmine is determined to keep herself busy and prove that she is everything, can do everything, be everything, That is until the next thing to royalty, James, goes and ruins everything. That’s ok though, Jasmine is forging on ahead. After shoving James aside, and rightfully into his place she keeps on trucking, or does she?
I adored this book. It was short and very sweet. Less than 150 pages. The perfect romance book to read around the holidays and to cozy up to around the fire. The characters were well built, chapters were the perfect length and the story was robust. Lovers of Holiday and Contemporary Romance will fall in love with this book.

Let It Be Love: A Mustang Prairie Romance by N.D. Jackson

This is the first book I’ve read by the author. Let It Be Love is the first book in the Mustang Prairie Series, but it won’t be my last. I’ll definitely be looking for the rest of them. This story had me hooked. It’s the fifth book in A Mustang Prairie Series.

Kiki is a mega poster and is secretly seeing the mayor of a small town. She knows he wants his privacy and doesn’t want to push that on him. She passes out on stage and he rushes to her side. The quote I chose for Kiki is: “I feel really good about it. I wasn’t sure that this was the right path for me, no matter how much I wanted it to be and tonight proved that I could do it. It proved to me that Louie was wrong and only tore me down because he didn’t want things to change. I have to thank you Sadie for encouraging me to do things in a different way. If I hadn’t met you and heard your voice I never would have believed this was possible for me.”

Eric is Mayor of Mustang Prairie and dating mega pop star Kiki. He’d do anything for her including driving through the night to be by her side. Little did he know what he was getting himself into. Will he be able to handle everything that is going to be thrown his way? The quote I chose for Eric is: “Oh did you put on glittery leotards and sing and dance for hours each night at every major city in the world? Did you give up your childhood to achieve your dreams? I don’t think so, you got rich off her hard work and then denied her so much even as your pockets got fatter and fatter. You held an illegal marriage over her head to keep her with you. Why? Because you’re such a good agent or because people were willing to put up with you for the mega star you manipulated? You are a scumbag and a fraud and it’s time the whole world knows it.”

Victoriously Yours (Titans Of Manhattan #4) by Anise Storm

This is not the first book I’ve read by the author. In fact it’s not the first book in the series that I’ve read. Victoriously Yours is the fourth book in the Titans of Manhattan Series. This time we get to see Jonas.

Jonas is a successful businessman now and has an endless amount of women walking in and out of his life. He is looking for a chef and when he runs into the one person he hasn’t forgotten what will happen. The quote I chose for Jonas is: “Good evening. My name’s Jonas Courtland, and I’m with the Courtland Hospitality Group.”

Kenzie has once been fooled by Jonas Courtland once before. She runs into him when she is supposed to meet with a group of chefs applying for the same job. What happens when she sees him? The quote I chose for Kenzie is: “Dear Lord, please tell me that you’ve at least gotten your stuff packed?”

The True Garza (Red Cage #3) by S. Ann Cole

This is the first book I’ve read by the author. It’s also the first book in the series that I’ve read. The True Garza is a fantastic read and leaves you wanting more. It’s the third book in the Red Cage Series.

London, Lonny, is back in LA for the first time since her dad has died. The fling she had in Denver follows her home. London falls hard for Trueman but does not want to get hurt. The quote I chose for London is: “If I didn’t know any better, I’d think you were avoiding me, True Garza.”

Trueman Mateo Garza doesn’t do dates, and he doesn’t buy women things. He’s known as a womanizer. He has ADHD and can’t focus on much. That’s until London comes back into his life. The quote I chose for True is: “They know that I’m madly, truly, insanely, out-of-breath, irrevocably, inconceivably, ridiculously, unequivocally in love with you, Lonny Bridge.”

Lara is the Mayor’s daughter and works at the local bakery in town. She’s upset when she learns that her father is opening up another coffee shop. The owner is doing cookies as well as launching their own app. The quote I chose for Lara is: “I don’t know. I guess you’ll just have to find a way on your own.”

Graham is new to Cupid’s Cove and is opening a coffee shop. He’s trying to get out of towners to come in and try it. He doesn’t want to compete or try to steal the other bakery’s customers. The quote I chose for Graham is: “Fair enough. I happen to have a batch of brownies already whipped up. We’ll meet at your place later. Oh, and you can have top or bottom. I don’t mind either way.”

A Hundred Wishes (Band of Sisters) by Marianne Rice- Review by Micalah Weatherholtz

A Hundred Wishes (Band of Sisters)A Hundred Wishes by Marianne Rice
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is technically the third book in the band of sisters series but they all seem to be stand alone novels. It was also my first book by Marianne Rice but will most certainly not be my last. I’m really looking forward to reading the other books in this series. A hundred wishes follows ex army sergeant Regina (fish) Fisher and arson investigator Bryce Cambridge’s complicated journey of falling in love. Gina was so broken when she met Bryce and he had his own set of issues but he slowly helped Gina rebuild herself, gain her confidence back, and they built a great relationship together taking all the right steps. This book pulled me in and I didn’t want to put it down. I neglected everything just to read this book, there just never seemed to be a good stopping point, I just wanted to keep reading. I would definitely recommend this to romance lovers.

Although a little predictable this story was cute and a perfect romance story. I enjoyed the military aspect of it. Gina is a strong, caring and sweet soul. She was deal a tough card and learned to live and love again. The friendships she has with the other women is fantastic. I love reading about women supporting and caring for other women.
Bryce is a cute character. I loved his personality far more than his physical description. Although that was great too lol. It was a perfect story to read around valentines. It incorporates loss, love, ptsd, friendship, and understanding. A great feel good book.

A HUNDRED WISHES (BAND OF SISTERS) BY MARIANNE RICE – REVIEW BY Ana Evelyn

A Hundred Wishes (Band of Sisters)A Hundred Wishes by Marianne Rice
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book had me shaking my head in agreement sooo so much! It felt so very relatable, while not for the same reasons but I have had similar fears that Gina faced early on in this book. Relationships, being confident, and being vulnerable is hard. With that being said this book was very refreshing to read. I was hooked and excited to see how this story would pan out. I was constantly rooting for Gina, hoping she would find strength and courage to face all of the challenges that she comes across. She shows us time and time again that she’s a strong independent woman! This book was empowering & made me realize I too should be able to face my own fears and insecurities! In regards to the other characters- they easily bring you in and you feel like you know them. I hadn’t read any of the other previous books but understood and loved most characters right off the bat anyways! Overall it was a really great story, I loved how true and real it was. Lastly Bryce – was a sweet man of a man! A man I think every woman dreams to find someday! Overall rating 4/5 in my book!!

Every hospital had at least one—a Dr. D—or the equivalent thereof. The thread which strung them into the same category was their absolute flawlessness. Gender varied from place to place, but at Eastport General the physician in question was a man:
Dr. Desmond Danielson had all the tools necessary for an evening of pure pleasure…
The suave demeanor.
The pearly white smile.
The full head of hair, nary a strand out of place. Not even a tornado could best his style.
He played sports.
He saved lives.
He won trophies and awards.
He was well-read, well-established, and in any clothes other than a medical coat with a stethoscope draped around his neck instead of a scarf, he would have appeared too young for the job. No one even truly knew his age. No one cared.
Everyone loved him. And, of course, he was hotter than the tropics on a blustery afternoon during the peak of summer.
There was only one problem: all that perfection only lasted for one night.

This is another amazing read by the author. The first book of the Titans of Manhattan was good, but Imperfectly Yours is better. It is part of a series, but can be read as a standalone. I highly recommend checking out the first book.

Elsa is loving the life she has right now. She’s got a great man, not one that she expected. Things become hard and she isn’t sure that they’ll survive it. The quote I chose for Elsa is: “You’re home. I thought you needed to stay in Shanghai until the end of the month. What’s wrong?”

Anton loves being famous, but he loves being home even more. He loves Elsa and would do anything for her. Things are getting hard and he doesn’t know which way to go. The quote I chose for Anton is: “That saying about there being no place like home is right. F**k, I missed my wife and even you three.”

Thea owns a bakery and sells everything but cupcakes. She does get asked on several occasions, but the answer is always the same. When Ben comes by looking for them he catches her attention. The quote I chose for Thea is: “He’s probably one of those rich and cocky playboys. The type that’ll say all the right things so they can get laid. Maybe he was fishing to see if I had a boyfriend or better yet, maybe he thought I would be easy.”

Ben is falling fast for Thea. He didn’t think things would work out for him, but things are going good so far. He enjoys spending time with her and can’t think of anything else, but being with her. The Groomsman by MARINA HANNA. This author is newer to me but I’m definitely glad I found her. This story pulled me in so quickly I read it all in one sitting and enjoyed every minute of it. From page one I could feel the connection forming between our main characters. I’m a sucker for a one night stand hopefully becoming more kind of story. There’s plenty of steam in this book but it’s not overwhelming I think the author writes it very well. The characters draw you into their world easily and you’ll barely notice the time passing in the real world. I can’t wait to see where where this author takes readers next. It’s well written and paced nicely never feeling rushed or lacking. Four big stars and highly recommended!

Tenacious: Dark Billionaire Mafia Romance (Billionaire Bodyguards #6) by Via Mari

Not my first read by Mari. Tenacious is a great read. The Billionaire Bodyguards Series is amazing. Each book gets better and better. You can read as a standalone, but you’ll see characters from other books.

Allie thinks that it’s safe enough to drop the bodyguards. The thing is that she doesn’t know who is paying for it. She finds herself falling for Nick, but isn’t sure what to do. The quote I chose for Allie is: “Sounds like a six -car pileup on the other side of the city and the roads are getting ice-covered. They sent in the jaws of life and helicopter. They’ll be bringing the victims to Central Hospital as soon as they can get them out of the wreckage, so I need to be there when they get there. The department is already short-staffed and running with temp nurses and Friday night traffic on a good weather day can take forever.”

Nick is finding it hard to stay away from Allie. It’s been a while since he’s felt anything like for anyone. The quote I chose for Nick is: “It wasn’t easy finding a parking spot tonight. Sheldon and Lexie aren’t too far away. Should we take a seat with the others while we wait to find out what the big announcement is all about?”

Amelia has always had a crush on her brother’s best friend. She puts the lotto in Alex’s name. Moving in with her crush is just the icing on the cake. The quote I chose for Amelia is: “Oh, sorry, I zoned out there for a second. Just deciding where to start with making this place less of a bachelor pad and more of an actual home.”

Teague doesn’t know how to see Amelia anymore. He wants to see her as a little sister, but can’t. He’s off-duty and back to civilian life. The quote I chose for Teague is: “Hey, I’ve got your back. Like always. We’re a solid team, Ames. We’re back on the same page, and we’ll make this work. Together.”

Callie is trying to escape her abusive husband. He beats the living daylights out of her. Her neighbor steps in and gets her some help. Will Callie find another chance at love. The quote I chose for Callie is: “He did a number on you this time, Callie. Today might not be the day but soon, very soon.”

CC, Conrad Chapman, loves to fly. When he gets a call asking for a favor. He goes to the rescue and finds a beautiful woman. She’s being hunted by her husband. The quote I chose for CC is: “You’re right, but the decisions are hers to make. We can like them or not, but, in the end, the best thing we can do for her is to make suggestions or offer solutions and let her go from there.”
