The Book of Carraig (The Cross of Ciaran Book 2) by Andrea Matthews – Review by Dahnielle Hibbert

The Book of Carraig (The Cross of Ciaran #2)The Book of Carraig by Andrea Matthews
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Let me give you a little backstop. After being asleep for 1500 years, 5th century Ciarán, an ancient pagan priest in Ireland , awakens to find himself in 20th century after being found as a pristine specimen by archeologist, Caitlin O’Connell, who transported him to New York. When he awoke and the amazingly intact specimen went missing, mystery and magic ensues and the story begins to unfold.
If you read these books out of order you will find yourself adrift. You really need the background created in book 1, The Cross of Ciarán, to fully appreciate the continuing mystical escapades of Ciarán and Caitlin.
As a continuing tale I fully expected that it would be filled with the history the author put in her previous novel, however she exceeded my expectations. I love the addition of the hunt for a serial killer, on top of the hunt for the book that may actually be the key to stopping the serial killer. Again I was a little disappointed in the romance between Caitlin and Ciarán, but in this book it was fully understandable because of the memories Ciarán is seized by. Memories of his wife and his brother, memories of the Ireland he loved and the wicked clash between the way it is now.
A story about finding yourself, finding long abiding love and about enchanted mystery will keep you hooked to the very end! I cannot wait for book three!!

Something Lost by Bernadette Marie – Review by Carisa Saenz

Something LostSomething Lost by Bernadette Marie
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The story Something Lost was great once the main plot got going. It is very slow in the beginning. I would have preferred if it didn’t take so long for these to start building between Craig and Rachel. Other than that this love story does pull heartstrings.

Something Lost (Funerals and Weddings Series #1) by Bernadette Marie

Not the first book I’ve read by Marie. Something Lost is the first book in the Funerals and Weddings Series. It is a wonderful story and will leave you wanting more.

Rachel is in shock after seeing the team her father thought the world of. She wants to catch up with Craig. He was her first love and in the last ten years it hasn’t changed that. The quote I chose for Rachel is: “It was the first time I really noticed you. Before then, you melded in with the team. Hal and Theo would hang with you guys, and I was told to stay upstairs. But when you hung around, I noticed.”

Craig didn’t think agreeing to show up at Coach Diaz’s funeral would lead to seeing Rachel again. He isn’t sure if they are starting something new or if they are ending it. When something drastic happens he worries for her safety. The quote I chose for Craig is: “I loved you too. I didn’t show it well, but I thought we would be forever. I knew in time your father would forgive me, but I had to prove myself to him—and me.”

Runaway to the Outback (Welcome to Bunya Junction #2) by Nicole Flockton

This isn’t the first book I’ve read by Flockton. This is the second book in the Welcome to Bunya Junction Series. It can be read as a standalone. Flockton knows what to do to keep her readers coming back.

Pandora comes into Bunya Junction running from a photoshoot. When she walks in everyone thinks that she is a runaway bride. She is tired of modelling and wants to take a break. The quote I chose for Pandora is: “I’m impressed with your knowledge. But in answer to your question, once I get into a room I’ll make a call then. It’s not your problem to sort out.”

Jonas is the younger brother of Sindy(Home to the Outback). When a woman comes into the pub looking like a bride Jonas wonders what is going on. He soon learns that there is no one coming to look for the bride. The question he has is, what secrets is she hiding? The quote I chose for Jonas is: “Are you hungry? We’ve got a pretty decent menu here, with good food. The offer of the room is still on the table. If you do decide you want to go back to Sydney, you can’t do it on an empty stomach. And I promise I will do my best not to say anything else that will upset you.”

Fight for It (Sunset Cove) by Amy L. Gale

This is the first book by Gale that I’ve read. This short story will leave you wanting more. This was an amazing page-turner.

Alyssa is helping her crush and brother’s best friend with the marketing of an old restaurant. When her ex causes trouble things don’t go as planned. The quote I chose for Alyssa is: “What do you want from me, Ray? You want me to tell you this is great. You want me to watch you ruin everything you worked for since you got here? It’s not happening. I’m out.”

Ray is back in his hometown. Retiring from his boxing career he decides to open an old hang-out spot. He has a chance to do one more fight, but doesn’t when he finds that Alyssa is right. The quote I chose for Ray is: “I get it. You’re scared. But I’m not that asshole you married. You know me, Lys. You know more about me than any girl I’ve ever been with my whole life. You’ve seen me at my best, at my worst, and everywhere in between. And I’ve never been better than when I’m with you.”

Fight for it by Amy L Gale – Review by Daryian Lucas

Fight for It (Sunset Cove)Fight for It by Amy L. Gale
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is a cute, fast read about two people who have always had feelings for each other but neither of them ever said or did anything about it. Alyssa is recently from the town’s “it boy”, Jared, and Ray is a professional boxer. The two cross paths when Ray decides to buy an old restaurant in their hometown. What seems like fate, is almost ruined when Jared tries to get between the two. Overall, I liked this book but I would’ve liked more details about Alyssa’s brother Rick’s accident and a little more drama at the end. I would’ve liked to see Jared have more consequences as well.

Caught By Him by Tammy Mannersly

This is another great read by Mannersly. She knows how to keep her readers coming back. This is a short read, but so worth the time.

Willa is staying at her grandfather’s house to house sit. When she forgets the key to the gate she meets the neighbor. What she doesn’t realize is that he’s famous. The quote I chose for Willa is: “What’s wrong with you, Hayden? I’m fed up with you, with this. You’ve been pulling this crap for nearly two years now, claiming ownership, trying to control my life. Well, guess what? If you want to remain in my life, in any kind of capacity, then you have to cut this shit out.”

Brody is disturbed when he sees a hooded figure going towards his neighbor’s house. The only thing he didn’t know was that the hooded figure was his neighbor’s granddaughter. He falls fast and hard for her. The quote I chose for Brody is: “Look I’m not sure what Hayden told you, but Willa’s nothing like that. She’s told me about her commitment issues in the past, but it has less to do with her personality and more to do with not being true to herself and not being involved with the right person.”

Hold Me Forever (Heron Harbor Book 3) by Lea Nolan

This is the third book I’ve read by Nolan. This is the third book in the Heron Harbor series. Nolan has kept me interested in these books since the first one.

Lark wasn’t exactly wanting to see her ex on the first day in town. She also didn’t want her RV to break down. Spending more time with Hunter isn’t exactly what she wants but it’s what she gets. The quote I chose for Lark is: “I don’t run out of gas. And before you ask, it’s not my battery or the fuses, either. There must be something wrong with the electrical system. I need a mechanic, preferably someone cheap, one who knows how to fix RVs.”

Hunter is Chief of Police and on bis way home he sees a stranded person. Being the nice guy he is, he stops. The one person he was hoping to see later in the week is the stranded person. The quote I chose for Hunter is: “Lark. It’s nice to see you, though I’m sorry it’s under these circumstances.”

Bared.: A Green St. Girls Romance by N.D. Jackson

This isn’t the first book I’ve read by Jackson and it certainly won’t be my last. Bared is such a great read and I had a hard time putting it down. These characters had me hooked from the moment I started reading.

Athena isn’t one to open up to people. When she meets Tru he gets under her skin. She wants to push him away, but her friends convince her to take a chance. The quote I chose for Athena is: “No. Trevor wasn’t that kind of guy. He was pretty damn sweet, actually, at least until I called it quits. Threatened to kill himself unless I took him back, if you can believe it. I thought that was something that happened in the movies. Well I told him it wasn’t gonna happen and he called my bluff. Killed himself, which somehow turned me into a pariah and that caused great embarrassment for my parents.”

Tru has had plenty of women over the time, but Athena is different. He wants to know everything about her. He is afraid that she’s just like every other rich girl. The quote I chose for Tru is: “Then I’d say this is a great intro into picnics because we have booze and barbecue. Not to mention a living breathing goddess.”

Snowflakes and Holly: A Small Town Christmas Romance (A Hartwood Holiday Romance) by Jae Dawson

This isn’t the first book I’ve read by Dawson, but I will say each book just gets better and better. Snowflakes and Holly had me hooked from the get go.

Holly is a physical therapist and when she sees an injured patient her instincts flare up. She hasn’t done anything reckless since her father passed away. When she is ran into on her first day at the slopes after five years she meets Blake. The quote I chose for Holly is: “It’s weird. Don’t get me wrong, the physical attraction is intense. But yesterday, at the tree farm, we bonded on an emotional level I’ve never experienced with a man before. It felt…. It felt like I’ve known him forever.”

Blake moved to Hartwood six months ago and has been working with Hannah since his injuries require him to do so. When Hannah has to leave he’s left with the woman he ran into on the slopes. He soon finds himself falling for her, but then he does something stupid. The quote I chose for Blake is: “Careful falling like that. Next thing you know, you’ll be falling for me. And I’ll let you. Even though we both know you’re only after my awesome playlist . . .”

Confessions of a Sophomore Prankster : Frat House Confessions by Danielle Jacks

This isn’t the first book by Jacks that I’ve read. Confessions of a Sophomore Prankster is a great story. Jacks has a way of spinning her words.

Casey has always been a wallflower. Losing her best friend in a fire has changed her all together. Sophomore year rolls around and she’s caught the eye of a jock. She thinks she can resist his charm, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. The quote I chose for Casey is: “I’m not playing this game. It’s so stupid. I agreed to one evening with you so it would please my dad. We both know this isn’t going anywhere. Tomorrow, you’ll go back to being an obnoxious jock, and I’ll be back in the library researching how to raise the dead.”

Seeter is Wide Receiver for the college football team. Pulling pranks is all he can think about. Trying not to get caught he hides out in the library. There he meets someone who he can’t stop thinking of. The quote I chose for Seeter is: “I found a guy that’s been running a bar for over five years. He has a marketing degree and managed to turn a failing business into a successful one. He’s starting work here on Monday and he designed the flyers as part of his interview.”

Check Out ( The Bobbin Sisters Series Book 1) By Debra Parmley – Review by Jules Herbert

Check OutCheck Out by Debra Parmley
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Check Out By Debra Parmley is a wonderful read filled with genuine, heart warming characters and the Author truly makes you feel like you really know them. This is the first book by Ms Parmley that I have read and I thoroughly enjoyed it. In fact the only thing I could possibly complain about is that it ended too soon! I can’t wait to see what lies ahead for the Bobbin Sisters in future books.

Betsy Bobbin is a cute, quiet librarian working in a job she truly loves with all her heart when she meets Gorgeous Nash Ware a Marine Veteran. At their first meeting Nash comes across as very gruff when the truth is, there is a wonderful caring man who is dealing with a lot under all that gruff. Betsy sees that and attraction builds between the two. Betsys sister Leann comes to visit but someone dangerous follows her and it becomes very obvious he means her serious harm. Betsy turns to Nash for help. It is through this dangerous time that their growing feelings will definitely be tested and they both need to decide if they are right for each other.

Georgia Clay (Southern Promises Book 1) by KG Fletcher

This is another fantastic read by Fletcher. This story had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. You’ll fall in love with Georgia Clay and Katie.

Katie is loving her career filled life. Never one to take time off. She goes to her high school reunion and finds herself with Clay Watkins. One thing leads to another and she is falling hard. The quote I chose Katie is: “I can’t believe it’s happening. I’m finally traveling and it’s not for work.”

Clay is a big up and coming music writer. He’s penned some great songs big name artists have sung. Going to the ten year reunion was just what he needed. The quote I chose for Clay is: “I know it’s selfish of me, but I really just wanted to hang out with you for a little longer before I head back to Nashville. I’m not ready to say goodbye to you, Katie Parker.”

Vanessa is not the normal person people think her to be. She seems to have caught the attention of three immortals. Grey, Aroz, and Raef. The quote I chose for Vanessa is: “Hm. Speaking of doing without, would you mind if I take a day off next week? I need to visit some specialists in the city about Piper.”

Grey is the top dog of the Underworld. Vanessa is something he wants. The only question is though is can he share. He’s not the only one wanting her. The quote I chose for Grey is: “How many boys did you say work for him?”

Mountains Wanted (Mountains Series Book 1) by Phoebe Alexander

This isn’t the first book by Alexander I’ve read. This new series is great and I loved every minute of it. Mountains Wanted is the first book in the Mountain Series.

Sarah is a single mom to two wonderful kids. Meeting James at a sub place she couldn’t keep him off her mind. When she meets him again a few days later things change. The quote I chose for Sarah is: “With all due respect, let’s say your life is on the line in the heat of battle. Would you rather have a gay soldier who is one hundred percent focused and loyal to his fellow soldiers by your side, or a straight soldier whose mind is nowhere near the battlefield? The truth of the matter is people have the ability to be professional and put their recreational and sexual desires aside when needed. This ability has absolutely nothing to do with sexual orientation. It has everything to do with integrity and work ethic.”

James is home for good. He’s teaching ROTC and encourages his students to attend Sarah’s lecture. When he meets her one on one he can’t keep her off his mind. The quote I chose for James is: “Being deployed in a war zone, it’s obviously not like everyday life. In order for the men to stay focused, accomplish their missions and stay alive, it requires—more than anything else—mental discipline. If an individual loses focus and doesn’t see something they ought to have seen, it may not only get them injured but the person next to them as well. It’s imperative to keep distractions to a minimum. It’s focus and discipline that make the difference between frightened boys and professional soldiers who get the job done. That’s also why drinking and sex are discouraged while deployed.”

Zoe is loving her chance in the big city, but it all comes crashing down. She loses her job, her boyfriend, and a roof over her head. When she runs into her brothers ex-best friend. The quote I chose for Zoe is: “We didn’t have a chance at a happy ever after. I should’ve never let our fake dating get out of hand. I’m sorry we led you on, but you need to come to terms with it being over.”

Damien runs into the last person he ever thought he’d see. When things come up he finds himself saying they are engaged. Then things get even worse. The quote I chose for Damien is: “At least I know why she’s suddenly resilient to my charms. Tomorrow, I’m going to drop something off at your house. Your job is to make sure she opens it and follows the instructions.”

Patience LaClare is a woman who over the last seven years has lost her courage and become a shell of her former self, she has been in a loveless marriage with a man who cheated on her, blamed her for everything going wrong in his life and verbally abused her, but the day it all became physical is the day she drew the line and asked for a divorce, however, Patience has lost her friends over that time and only has her family and herself to rely on. Duke Micheals is a Marine who left everything behind, including the girl he loved, since then, he has seen more of war than he ever wanted to and when he lost his dog in a tragic encounter with the enemy, he developed PTSD and this meant a medical discharge, leaving the Marines and returning home to his family and all the memories of what he left behind.

Patience is heading to her cafe in her parents grocery store as usual, where she bakes the town’s favourite sweet and savoury snacks, what she doesn’t expect is her car breaking down in the car park at night, when the snow is falling and it is freezing cold, but the last thing she expected was Duke Micheals to come to her rescue on his way back from filling in the paperwork so he can start his new job as a deputy in the local police department. The surprise stops them both from being able to form words, but it is Patience who breaks the silence first but her words are sarcastic, independent and scathing, but she reluctantly accepts the lift home from him, the silence between them is deafening and when she gets into her house, she is an emotional mess, but so is Duke after he drops her off. Seeing Patience has solidified what Duke was thinking that she needs him as much as he needs her, however, it is also clear that she will not be as easy to convince as he hoped, he will have to put in a lot of work to pull the person she was out of the person she is and he knows just how to do it, he will simply start by asking her to dinner and then see where that takes them.

As the days progress, Patience and Duke start to spend more time together as friends and catch up on the times since they last saw each other, things are going well but there are a lot of feelings to sort through and pasts to be shared, this takes a long time as the things they need to share are painful and hard to talk about and it doesn’t help when their families meddle and try to speed the process up. The two realise that they still feel as strongly for the other as they did seven years before, but also that the attraction they felt has multiplied as they have gotten more mature and grown into themselves.

Will they be able to reveal all the hurt they are hanging onto and overcome the barriers they have each built around their hearts, or will it all be too much when they find out what the other has been through and leave them reeling away from each other? This is a second chance romance where friends who have been broken try to come back together as adults with all their baggage included, where tenderness, grief, love and loss collide with the past, present and future to create a journey which envelops you and takes you along for the ride.

This is the second book in The Meraki Series. It’s also the second book I’ve ready by Kammenou. Love by Design is amazing just like Love is What You Bake of It.

Mia is living in the city instead of with her family. She doesn’t want to be stuck in a small town. When she meets Nicholas her life is flipped upside down. The quote I chose for Mia is: “Precious time. That’s not for me. How did couples meet before all this online stuff? What happened to the old-fashioned way of meeting by chance, or at work, or through a friend?”

Nicholas runs his business with his sister. When he meets Mia things change. He isn’t sure what to make of her. Things aren’t clear until they spend time alone. The quote I chose for Nicholas is:“Well, I’ll leave you to your thoughts.”

Queen Of My Heart (Life Won’t Wait Book 1) by Nikki Lynn Barrett

This is not the first book I’ve read by Barrett. Queen of my Heart is an amazing read. This page turner is amazing. It combines my favorite things. Country music, books, fairy tales, and Nashville.

Quinn moved to Nashville after the last time her character was killed off. She moves in hopes of getting a music deal. She wants to provide a better life for her niece. The quote I chose for Quinn is: “For once, I wish I could live a fairy tale life. You’re saving me so I can help my family, and now that I’m here around yours, I wonder how I can walk away after this is said and done without a broken heart. I’ve never had this kind of family togetherness time. Never. And I’ve never wanted anyone to sweep me off my feet before. I still don’t, but you’re slowly changing my mind.”

Tucker is the next country music star. He has had a horrible past. When he meets Quinn it’s after she sings one of his songs. He helps her out when things get tough and falls in love. The quote I chose for Tucker is: “Seems I have a big star in my presence. I’d be honored if you’d let me be your tour guide through Music City. The tour includes some ins and outs of the music scene, lunch with a country star whom you might have heard of- Tucker McGinnis? I might be able to get him to meet you. Oh, and there might be some flirting involved. But in the end run, I’m hoping for a great day and a yes from you. Maybe a little one on one on a six string.”
