I love paranormal and fantasy books, so I had high hopes for this one right off the bat. I’m happy to say that Courtney Davis knocked this out of the park! Everything about The Serpent and the Firefly makes me want to leave reality behind and just stay hidden in their magically crafted world. This story flows so perfectly that it played like a movie in my head. It was easy to tune everything out and lose myself in Jade and Baal’s lives. I feel like fans of urban fantasy and the supernatural will adore this book.

I enjoyed the book and the authors writing style. This is an urban fantasy that has non-stop action with a realistic feel. With the excellent writing and attention to detail the characters and plot really made me feel like I was there in the story. The story is filled with prophecy, magic, shifters, Fae, other supernatural elements, demons, angles, secrets, danger, revenge, drama, chemistry, romance, humor, quirky moments, and sooooo much more. Literally everything you would want in a book to keep you captivated. The MC heroine’s character has their entire life turned upside down and is faced with all new challenges and rules. I would say that some characters are morally grey which are always my favorite. The heroine is attracted to the bad guys and trouble always seems to find her. One of the main struggles she faces is her ex putting a hit out for her, so she must go into witness protection. So many ulterior motives mixed with love and prophecy.

Definitely a fan of Courtney Davis’s writing, and will continue to read her books! Also, will recommend this book to anyone wanting an excellent magical read that transports you out of reality!

I really enjoy this paranormal romance; it has a bit of everything – action, magic, paranormal creatures, good vs. Evil, secrets, a dash of romance and more!

My favourite character is Baal, I love that he’s not the typical hero character we root for. His interactions with others are interesting and his ‘flaws’ make him more lovable to me.

There is a lot of action which I love meaning there are no dull moments. However, there were moments when it felt a little too fast-paced and a little rushed. There were also parts which I felt needed further development to add more depth to the characters (to give them more growth) but despite this, the plot is original and creative, and I couldn’t put this book down!

I enjoyed it but think that had the plot progressed more slowly, for example with a second book, the characters would have that development to give them more depth. Overall, this was an original and enjoyable read with a lot of potential.

This book is a fast paced fantasy story that is action packed from start to finish. There is so much going on with this story and the characters are right in the middle of it. I enjoyed the premise of this story. I think the author has created an exciting story that is easy to engage with. The characters fit perfectly with the story and I thought they connection was so well crafted.
This is an author I am newly familiar with and I am definitely enjoying her work so far. Each book I well written and I never fail to enjoy the story. This is a great book and I would certainly recommend it.

The Serpent and The Firefly is the first work by Courtney Davis that I have ever read and it will definitely not be the last! Her characters are so dynamic and fun to get to know. I really enjoyed Jade and her backstory of why she was put in witness protection. I loved how she and Baal played off each other. I could not put this book down for anything! Davis makes you need to know what happens next by giving all her characters different angles. A wonderful paranormal romance that has everything you could ever want from a bada$$ king of Hell, to demons, shifters, and fae with different realms that are just so unique! A must read for any lover of the supernatural!

This is a great read! It is entertaining, engrossing and delightful! I absolutely loved the story and the characters. The idea for the story is enticing but the execution of the story is out of the ordinary. The author did an amazing job creating these different planes of existence for the reader to travel to. This is set mainly on earth but with visits to others spaces. Their realms are creatively done. The antique store that Jade moves into was interesting to say the least. I would love to browse upstairs and downstairs for hours. Seeing who or what treasures are around.

The characters are imaginative! I loved Jade! She is smart and snarky. She doesn’t knows everything but is willing to learn. Baal is sneaky and keeps a lot of truth to himself. We meet different shifters, fairies, elves, witches and many others. They all have depth and are wonderfully written.

Overall this is a engaging, entertaining story and I throughly loved! The story is well written and easily kept my interest. The characters are delightful and inviting ( well most of them). I would love more in this realm!

I absolutely adored this story. The author created a unique world of angels, demons, fae, humans, and other magical creatures. We meet Jade and Baal and the electricity between the two of them was electric. The author did a great job of being descriptive and really drawing you into the tale. It was definitely a page turner that I couldn’t put down. All of the characters were well written and the author did a great job of creating well rounded characters. I loved seeing the growth in both Jade and Baal, both together and separately. This was my second story from the author, and I look forward to reading her other works.

Jade has recently been relocated to the smallest of small towns humanly possible. The move was made through no choice of her own and was done to protect her from her ex. After Jade testified against him, she was placed in the Witness Protection Program where she was forced to not just move but to change her name and take on a whole new identity. Part of her new identity involves the “inheritance” of a small gift shop from her late “uncle” that she is expected to run as her own business. The store has a small apartment upstairs which she now gets to call home. Jade is far from happy about the situation but must make the best of it in order to stay safe from her ex and his goons that are after her.

Jade has not even had a chance to get settled when she meets Baala, who was originally there to kill Jade because it is prophesized that she would be the one to kill him. Instead, he was enticed by her beauty and decides to strike a bargain with her. Baala starts to tell her some very unsettling news about herself. Turns out that her parents had some secrets that they never revealed to their daughter prior to their passing years ago. Baala also reveals that he is a serpent shifter and the first king of Hell and that he needs her help to unlock a book that is hidden under the store. The two strike up a bargain in which she helps him unlock the book, but he must protect her from her ex. Jade is suddenly thrust into a whole new world that she did not even know existed.

This book pulled me in from the first pages when Jade’s whole life was uprooted to protect her from her ex. Jade’s ex was into some shady dealings and when she testified against him, she had no choice but to flee or be killed. Immediately, we realize how strong Jade is in order to have stood up to her ex and testify against him. She put her life in danger in order to bring him to justice. Jade expects a boring life, running a boring business, in a boring town. What she got instead was a life that she could never begin to dream could happen to someone like her. The life she had before suddenly dulls in comparison to the new life she is thrown into as suddenly, Jade is thrust into a world of demons, fae, angels, witches, shifters, magic, and the supernatural. A great read full of secrets, action, suspense, danger, drama, intrigue, and suspense.

I really enjoyed this paranormal fantasy. It had everything in a story I love. It is action packed, with secrets being reveled, magic, shapeshifters and the never ending battle between good and evil, and a added spark of a romance that shouldn’t work but does.

Jade is on the run. Part of the witness protection programme she believes the only worry she has is avoiding the grasp of her abusive ex and trying not to die of boredom in the new dead town she finds herself in but how wrong she is.
When a stranger arrives in her bedroom she worries her ex has found her, however she couldn’t be more wrong.
Baal is the first king of hell. He needs the help of a fairy to help him find a special key. However there is more to Jade than he realises at first. 1st she doesnt know she a fairy and has magical powers, 2nd according to the prophecy she has the ability to save or destroy him. How is he going to cope especially when he realises that the feelings between him and Jade become more than just attraction.
Jade has always been attracted to a bad boy and Baal is no exception but how will she react when she learns the truth about her existence and the part she is supposed to play in Baal’s life.
Can their budding romance overcome prophecy? Can Jade trust Baal or will his forked tongue make him out to be a lier and the snake that he is?With magical beings,Jade’s murderous ex after her and a fight between 4 different Realms do Baal and Jade stand any chance at all?

The Serpent and the Firefly is my first book by this author. We meet Jade, who does not know or understand the power she possesses. Baal, the first king of Hell and a serpent shapeshifter, is there to stop Jade before the prophecy is fulfilled. The characters are interesting and help guide the story through the paranormal world. I like Jade and her interesting backstory. When Baal enters the picture, it adds another dimension to her story. I enjoyed the tension between the two characters and how after meeting Jade, it challenges Baal’s plans. If you enjoy paranormal fantasy stories with a lot of action, I recommend this book. After reading it, I will be searching out more to read by this author.

The Serpent and the firefly was everything that I want in a fantasy novel. Honestly it would also make a fantastic movie or show.

Jade has always been into the dangerous life. She’s attracted to bad guys and trouble always seems to follow her. She has no family of her own and when her ex puts a hit out on her head she enters witness protection and starts over in a new town. Little did she know it was the start of life changing events for her.

Baal is the ultimate bad guy. Literally a demon. He seeks out Jades help but does he have ulterior motives? The prophecy speaks of a woman that could be his undoing. But will be risk it all for love?

This story was full of suspense, thrills, romance and a bit of action. I smiled and gasped while reading. I really hope there’s a follow up story maybe featuring one of the other associates of Baal? Who knows. But please give this story a chance and start reading!

Humans, demons, fairies, angels, vampires and much more.

I loved this book. I read through it so quickly. The characters have great dimensions and change as they interact with each other. I was bored with this story ever.

Jade (JD Williams), is a woman that has been used by a crime boss. He is now in jail because of Jade, his reach is far and wide and Jade is in hiding for testifying against him. Jade has lived in the human world all her life and now she is getting her eyes opened. She wakes one morning to find a man standing in her bedroom. Fiery Jade gives him a piece of her mind even though she is scared witless.

Baal, was the king of the underworld until he was ousted by his brother. Can he be trusted? Is he telling the truth? The story will keep you guessing.

I recommend you go on this amazing ride with this story. Leave the real world behind for a while and curl up with this book.

I enjoyed reading this fantasy book. This is an author that I have enjoyed reading and this book is no different. I enjoy her writing style as well as her attention to details that gave the story a realistic feel. I found this book to be well written and hard to put down. This is a story about a prophecy being fulfilled or can the prophecy change in a fight for control. I enjoyed how the characters pulled me into their world. They took me on an adventure of control but who wins you will need to find out by reading this book. They are strong, supportive characters that have great growth and add so much to the story. This is a fast paced, hard to put down story that had me coming back for more. An engaging story that you don’t want to miss. I highly recommend this book.

This book was wild af. I’ve been so terrified of snakes my entire life that my brothers used to chase me around with them until i cried (ikr??). After reading this book I kinda … want to be chased around by snakes ? Honestly at 33 years old I’m suddenly s*xually confused, frustrated in the most delicious way, & don’t know what to do with myself. But anyway, back to the book! This is one of the most unique stories I’ve ever read & I loved every minute of it. Incredibly creative, delightfully twisty, morally grey perfection. Lucifer vibes that I adore entirely. If you want to spice up your life with an interesting s*xual awakening & have a fun little adventure, definitely read this book!

The Serpent and the Firefly is another fantastic urban fantasy from Courtney Davis. I just adore her books- she really is an amazing storyteller and produces fresh, original, and creative stories that fire my imagination and leave me wanting to stay in the ‘worlds’ and stories she creates. I have definitely developed an addiction to her work… and I need my next fix STAT 😊
This a captivating urban fantasy/paranormal romance with prophecy, magic, shifters, Fae, supernatural elements, demons, angels, secrets, agendas, danger, drama, high stakes, action, adventure, tension, intrigue, chemistry, suspense, mysteriousness, humour, witty banter, a quest, powerful rings/relics, a key, ex-issues, interesting/quirky characters, witness protection, small town, self-discovery, and opposites attract.
Jade thinks witness protection and hiding from her evil ex is as complicated as her life is going to get. But moving to a small town away from everything thrusts her into a situation she could never have prepared for. She is introduced to a whole ‘new’ world she never even knew existed, and a ancient prophecy that places her front and centre of the action. What happens makes for a completely riveting read…. Trust me, you won’t want to miss a second of this book!
I was so enthralled in the story that I read it all in one sitting, staying up past my bedtime just so I could find out what happens. Colour me #hooked !!
Again, I have to say that I am so thrilled to have discovered Ms. Davis and her wonderful stories. I really can’t wait to see what she has in store for us next- I need it almost as much as my next breath!
Highly recommended!!!
Happy Reading…

Thank you, Courtney Davis!

I have always enjoyed Courtney’s stories I like that they are different. The Serpent and the Firefly is an urban fantasy story that has non-stop action. Action packed all the way through. The premise is interesting with a cast of supernatural characters including demons, werewolves, angels, fae, shifters and more.
The Serpent and the Firefly is a fun read and has magic, prophecy, the first king of hell, scheming brothers, a quest where good and evil meet and it wouldn’t be complete without a twist.
Jade finds herself sucked into a world she had no idea existed. Her life is turned upside down when she finds that there are things that lurk in the shadows and go bump in the night. Her whole life has been a lie. Things change when she meets Baal.
Baal is a ruthless demon and a liar and will let nothing stand in his way. Beware his forked tongue. He is on a mission to find a key, free his sister and take back his throne and kill the prophesised one. However things change when he meets Jade.
When all is said and done who will be the victor in the fight over earth and it’s those who live there?

Boy, Jade stepped from one heap of trouble into a paranormal heap of trouble. Baal, a snake shifter, enters her life, as she starts a new life in WiTSEC. Oh, I found the drama and all the critters in the story quite entertaining. It is a pretty basic story yet the author gave us a intriguing look at how Jada came to find out about herself and her powers. Exploding with her light and energy in the field was my favorite part. I found the characters to be enough that they kept me wanting more. The plot had a few glitchy spots but it was enough to keep reading. I would love more about this crazy town full of paranormal craziness hidden among it. The romance helps also.

This is the first book that I have read from Mrs. Courtney Davis and I immediately fell in love with this book. It immediately captured my attention within the first few pages of the book. I had to read the book from start to finish, not be able to put it down until I had finished it. She has a way with words that captures your attention and immediately pulls you in, transporting you into her world that she has created. Being able to see and feel everything the characters are feeling is rare. The way she has written the characters is amazing.
When Elle is presented with every orphan’s dream, finding out she’s actually a princess, she isn’t sure if she should join the hulking sexy man, Locan, on a spaceship ride, or run screaming from the room because he’s obviously nuts. If it weren’t for the strange things she’d recently encountered, like suddenly gaining star shaped birthmarks and a bracelet that once belonged to her mother lighting up with an eerie green light, she would be out of there already. She has enough questions she wants answered to stay and find out, taking his hand and embarking on a journey across the darkness of space. He says she needs to save their people from her evil uncle. She wants to know where she comes from, who her mother was, and why she never fit in on earth. The path to their home planet isn’t without its bumps. Saving aliens, and earthlings while evading her uncle’s men and dodging the pushy goddesses who want to tell them all what to do. Elle has to learn who she really wants to be and to help Locan become the warrior he was meant to be.
I hope that there’s a sequel to this book. I look forward to reading more from this author in the near future.

Elle has always been different but she could never put her finger on why other than the obvious star shaped birthmark and purple eyes. After the death of the woman who raised her named Aunt Sara, she came across a box that was labelled with Elle’s name on it. When going through the box, Elle found a journal and a bracelet from her biological mother who died after giving birth. The journal was in a language she did not recognize and the bracelet glowed and had weird inscriptions in the same foreign language. Elle also felt a weird pain shot through her birthmark.

Over the next couple days, the feelings do not subside. A man, named Locan, approaches her and confirms she is indeed different. She is the lost princess of a Utopia called Prias. Her whole life is turned upside down. Learning the truth of her own family and the betrayal behind it, Elle and Locan know that she was meant to rule but can they take down everyone and everything in their way?

This book was a very fun read. I found Elle’s character to be very relatable. The author did an amazing job introducing each character and world building. I could not put the book down. I had to find out what happened next! I also really enjoyed that Elle wasn’t an 18 year old when she learned she was a princess. She was already an established woman with a career, making her that much more relatable to me as an adult myself.

Elle is a young woman with a promising future, as an orphan, she was brought up by another family member, but as a child, she did have the usual dreams, as every orphan does, of a fairytale type life where she is a princess. She is about to go out one evening when she finds out about a tragedy which is near to her heart, she is devastated and feels alone, but it also leads to a life changing event, she finds some of her mothers belongings, one of which starts glowing green, she just thinks that it’s something caused by grief.

When life returns to a bit of normality, she suddenly starts feeling like she is being followed, so when handsome Locan turns up telling her that her dream is actual true and she is a princess, he gives her a choice to either come with him in his spaceship, or be left to fend for herself against the less friendly people who intend her harm. Elle feels like she is either going insane, or Locan is, but thanks to the odd feelings and mysterious blue star birthmarks appearing on her arm, she decides to take a chance and makes the last minute decision to go with him.

As they journey through space, Locan explains more about where she is from and what it is like living there, including about her Uncle, it is a lot to process, but Elle seems to be taking it in her stride, but as with all journeys, this one doesn’t go smoothly. Along the way, there are dangers all around Elle and Locan, from the people following her who have been sent by her Uncle and to make matters more difficult, there are her peoples Goddesses who appear with side quests for them, mainly saving earthlings and aliens alike, but always with their own hidden agendas, all the while Elle and Locan are trying to deny the growing attraction between them.

Will Elle be able to step up into the shoes everyone wants her to, or will she bow under the pressure and will Locan finally be able to accept himself and see himself as Elle sees him? This is a Sci-Fi adventure spanning across space as this romance plays out amongst the stars.

I found this to be a fantastic sci-fi fantasy book that was action packed with just the right amount of romance in it. We have Elle, who thinks she is an orphan, who has always felt a disconnect with people on Earth and Locan, a warrior at odds with himself, because he has seen what happens when you lose control. Due to fate, or actually the Gods, they are brought together and have to learn to trust not only each other, but themselves if they want to survive the journey back to their home planet and save it. I felt the character descriptions and development was well rounded, I cared for the characters and wanted to see them succeed and I was worried when things got into tight spots for them. I was impressed at how the author was able to complete the story in one book without it feeling rushed or details were left out. The pacing was solid. The story definitely touched on some adult themes so not a story for children or younger teens. I definitely recommend it for a mature reader who wants to lose themselves in a fantastic story that is going to take them to another world!

I love the idea of Elle’s mother running to give up her life for her daughters, for her ‘Aunt’ Sara for doing everything she could to raise her to be her own person and to protect her from the truths until she knew it’d be time for L to take that next step to becoming who she needed to become (whether this was known or not.) The novel itself is a well written adventure, I love when tales are told from different narratives, and how it moves at just the right speed as to keep the reader immersed in its pages.

Strong female lead, strong supporting characters, romance and suspense all woven into this adventure and I certainly made sure I took the time to focus and really focus on the story. I feel like all of us have a certain ‘ I don’t belong here’ aspect to our lives, and how L feels, i felt very much akin to. I very much enjoyed the descriptive nature of the worlds, and the adventure that unfolds. If you’re looking for a lovely quick read, but not too quick, I would recommend giving this a go. I know I will be looking for more by this author soon!
