The Missing Red Envelopes by Yobe Qiu – Review by Melissa Saxton

The Missing Red EnvelopesThe Missing Red Envelopes by Yobe Qiu
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

What a cute story!
Lorie and Weina are sisters we meet in this story who give us a peek into Chinese new year traditions! The story starts with the lunar new year and the sisters watching the parade on the sidewalk. As the story progresses you learn about red envelope gifts are to kids every year, why they are the color red and what’s inside! As we go along on the story you’ll uncover a heartwarming reason the girls are pooling their gifts and what their plan is.
This was a great short chapters book probably best suited to at least a 7th or 8th grade reader (or more advanced younger reader) but also is not lost on the younger kids as I read it to my 5 year old who loved it too.
Great book for kids highly reccomend

The Reluctant Spy by Lois Wickstrom – Review by Ayla Eddy

The Reluctant SpyThe Reluctant Spy by Lois June Wickstrom
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A delightful read! A boy with his pet rat that he is training to become a spy. We enjoyed partaking on the adventure with Timmy, his grandmother, and Hildegarde. It was a quirky good time that me and my children enjoyed reading together. There were lots of laughs throughout the story. It is good to be able to continue enjoying the imagination of Lois Wickstrom in chapter book format. She is a favorite author of my family.

Raining Fish and Frogs by Lois Wickstrom – Review by Melissa Saxton

Raining Fish and FrogsRaining Fish and Frogs by Lois Wickstrom
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Another cute title by this author which starts with a man who wants trout for breakfast so he heads off to the lake but nothing is biting!
Then the wind picks up and a waterspout forms and picks up all the water and fish and frogs and heads for town.
While in town it starts dropping the fish and frogs and water…including a fish right on the doorstep of the fisherman.
Cute story telling what happens with a waterspout in language a kid can understand and very cute illustrations. My kid was 5 I read it to.

Porter and Midge (Porter and Midge Children’s Book Series) by Jennie Chen and Giselle Nevada – Review by Nichole Chrisman

Porter and Midge: Paws for Safety: A Kid's Guide to Safe Dog Interactions (Porter and Midge Children’s Book Series)Porter and Midge: Paws for Safety: A Kid’s Guide to Safe Dog Interactions by Giselle Nevada
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the cutest book on dog safety! Done as a rhyming story this book book goes over multiple interactions a child could face with both a known and unknown dog. Situations like using gentle touch, to respecting a dog’s boundaries by paying attention to their body laungage, to seeing and interacting with dogs out in public this book covers a ton! I absolutely loved the illustrations and the use of poetry form to help kids learn! This was very well written, organized and thought out!

Detective Dylan and the Case of the Missing Mail (A Youth Sleuths Chapter Book Series) by MJ Murray – Review by Brandy Vaughn

Detective Dylan and the Case of the Missing Mail: A Youth Sleuths Chapter Book SeriesDetective Dylan and the Case of the Missing Mail: A Youth Sleuths Chapter Book Series by MJ Murray
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is an adorable short chapter book with age appropriate text. The illustrations are simple, yet engaging to keep youth interested in the story. Dylan is an enjoyable kid that uses his mail-order detective kit to help out his neighbor. The story also has learning opportunities about problem solving built in the plot. The book also has useful information on the back for teachers who want to use this story in the classroom. It’s a well rounded story.
