Unrequited Love (Magic and Heartache Series) by E.L. Roux – Review by Megan Rea

Unrequited Love (Magic and Heartache, #1)Unrequited Love by E.L. Roux
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This is the first book in the Magic and Heartache series by E.L. Roux. I enjoyed this book. I liked the premise of the plot and I thought the characters were off to a good start; however, I felt that both the plot and the characters were a bit rushed. Granted the book was very short. I would really like to have gotten more back story for both of the main characters (the author does mention at the end that we will get that story later). I’m excited for the next installment in the series…I’m hoping it’s a little more substantial. In the first book, we have Jorden and Cane’s story and it’s really very sweet and heartfelt. This is a fantasy romance and is definitely 18+. The spicy scenes are *spicy* and very well executed. I just wish there was more world building because it really lends itself to that as well as more character development. But I’m excited to see what they come out with for the next installment.

This book was a much shorter story than I was expecting, which is a shame because it is one that I could have read for longer. I enjoyed the characters and the story and I would have loved to see both developed even further.
I thought the story was a really interesting one to read. The characters were the entire focus of this book and it was great getting to know the more. I would have loved to see more about Jordan and Cane as they are the ones who pulled me into this story. This is a great read and one I enjoyed.

Immediately drawn in by the cover, I read the synopsis and knew I needed to grab it! It is a pretty quick read but doesn’t compromise on the storyline or character development. I loved seeing the chemistry pop off the pages between Jorden and Cane and getting to know them a bit was really fun. There is plenty of steam within this story, but the plot doesn’t rely on only spiciness to keep it going. The mythical world feels incredibly real as if you’re right there experiencing it firsthand. I am on my way to pick up the next in the series. If you’re looking for a fun paranormal romance for your afternoon, look no further than this book!

Unrequited Love (Magic and Heartache, #1)Unrequited Love by E.L. Roux
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This delightful tale Unrequited Love is the first book in the Magic and Heartache series. It is a well written short paranormal fantasy tale at only 96 pages, but it’s fun. It is a quick nice and easy read to enjoy with a nice glass of wine or cosying up under a blanket with a cup of ‘charmed’ hot chocolate.
It may be a small town, but it is full of magic, mythological and magical creatures of all kinds that live in harmony with non-magical people. A place where love is love and no one bats an eye. But dealing with an ex does not brighten one’s day.
Jorden and Cane made me laugh. The Top Off sounds just like a place I would like to see and be. I think I oohed and aahed, mmhmed and laughed my way through this charming and steamy tale.
I read this in one sitting. I do wish it was longer so I could get more of these eclectic characters and their lives. I seriously enjoyed it and can’t wait for more.

Unrequited Love (Magic and Heartache, #1)Unrequited Love by E.L. Roux

This was a very cute short story but definitely not for young readers. This story follows Jordan who owns a coffee shop who is just getting over heart break after splitting up with her fiance, and Cane who comes into the coffee shop every day. They are not human and do magic. She finds an attraction to a long time customer who needs her help with a spell to find out someone’s future. It’s a cute romantic fantasy but definitely for 18+. There are some pretty graphic details when it comes to sex and some funny terms for lady parts. I enjoyed reading it.

I’ve been in a rut since my boyfriend dumped me, and now he’s in my coffee shop every day with his new fiancé. When grouchy Cane makes my body hum again, I know I’m ready to move on. With his curled horns and awkward smile, I’m braced for Cane to ask me out, except he doesn’t.
Cane wants to make a deal. I’d help to foresee into my ex’s love life, something I don’t want to do, and I’m guaranteed a sexy night of skin-on-skin contact wrapped in Cane’s warm muscled arms, an experience I might have been hoping for.
What’s the harm in partaking of the pleasures the spell requires? The thing is, love spells require one thing, and it’s something I’m not sure I can give…
