The Light at Dawn by K. L. Montgomery – Review by Erica Fish

The Light at DawnThe Light at Dawn by K.L. Montgomery
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Light at Dawn by K. L. Montgomery is one story that I recommend you read. This is a new author for me. I have learned that Montgomery does an amazing job of building her characters so that the reader of her story can have a bond with them. I have taken the emotional journey with Angelia. As I was reading the story, I felt more like a sister with Angelia instead of someone just reading her story. This story is about love, loss and healing process. Mark feels like he has lost everyone and everything. He wanted to stop the horrible felling that a parent goes through if they lose a child. I advise having a box of tissues close while you read this story.

Black BulletBlack Bullet by L.D. Rose
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

L.D. Rose’s Black Bullet is a paranormal/romance story. The characters are genuine, and the scenery is so detail orientated. I enjoyed the simplicity of the story. This story was a fast read as well. There were some roller coaster rides throughout the story. I was at the seat of my recliner and yelling involved but I loved the story. This story is about Jonathan and Lawan. Both characters have some personal demons that they need to work out. What makes this work even more, they both find themselves and they build each other up and make everything all right.

The Perfect Duchess (The Macalisters Book 2) by Erica Taylor – Review by Erica Fish

The Perfect Duchess (The Macalisters, #2)The Perfect Duchess by Erica Taylor
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Perfect Duchess is the second book in the Macalisters series by Erica Taylor. With having read the first book in the series, I was excited to read this installment. Ms. Taylor has a great ability to intertwine stories but keep them separate in the same breath. This story is about Andrew and Claire and we learned about them in A Suitable Affair. I was excited because I really like the love story between Andrew and Claire. This story has romance, danger, drama, and suspense. The emotions in this book go up and down, twists and turns, happy and sad all in book. I was taken back several times and I had to go and read the section again because I wanted to know why I thought it was supposed to be in my mind’s eye and not the author’s eye.

Crime Lord’s Captive (Crime Lord Series Book 1) by Mia Knight – Review by Erica Fish

Crime Lord's Captive (Crime Lord, #1)Crime Lord’s Captive by Mia Knight
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Crime Lord’s Captive by Mia Knight is the first book in her series Crime Lord Series. This story was an interesting dark undertones story. I was comfortable reading the story, but I could see where it could have made me wiggle a little bit. The characters are fully developed and could feel them as friends. I would set enough time to be able to read this book in one sitting. You will not be sorry. This is the story of Layla and Gavin. Layla left her life in the past in Las Vegas and really wanted to start anew. Gavin is the man that Layla wanted to leave in her past, but he came looking for her. This is the story of how love can be dark if one is not able to speak up. I cannot wait to read the next book in the series.

A Suitable Affair (The Macalisters, #1)A Suitable Affair by Erica Taylor
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A Suitable Affair is a historical romance book. Erica Taylor does an amazing job with historical romance/fiction genre. The subject I did not like the most in school was history. This author makes this genre exciting. Being this is a romance during the Victorian era make this even more beautiful. The characters are fully developed and complex which makes the story move quickly. This story is also interesting because it is not just a romance story, but also has elements of mystery, thrillers and psychological aspects. Lady Susanna is the main character who is in the process of finding a husband. Who will Lady Susanna find as a suiter? Will there be a forbidden love? One will have to read to find out.

Infamy (Feisty Lawyers, #2)Infamy by Seelie Kay
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The story Infamy is the second book in the Feisty Lawyers by Seelie Kay. Seelie Kay does it again. The story plot is one that will be wanting more. The first book was kept me sitting at the edge of my seat. Infamy has kept my interest and a fast read. However, if you are not careful the story will take a left turn but had me turning right. I have enjoyed the characters and I feel like they are my family. There were times that I wanted to scream at Harun, Marianne, Cade and Janet as they are getting into trouble and should see that was going to happen. Since this is a shorter story, I do not want to get into too much detail. Make sure you set enough time to be able read it in one sitting.

Shattered (The Torzial Affair Book 1)Shattered by Via Mari
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Shattered is a part of the Torzial Affair three book series by Via Mari. I have loved Via Mari’s other stories so I knew I would like this story as well. One thing about Via Mari’s stories is that I am pulled into the stories just like I am part of the family. There are some twists and turns that came out of nowhere. The story moves at a quick pace and I even started to yell at Jenny because of some of her dumb moves. The book is about Jenny and Brian and their relationship. They are both strong people who have some stressors and have built walls around themselves. Will Jenny and Brian make it, or will they have problems because of the past?

Luke (Dark Water Security Series Book 1) by Madison Quinn – Review by Erica Fish

Luke (Dark Water Security #1)Luke by Madison Quinn
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Luke was a story that I was not sure what to expect and went in with an open mind. I am grateful that I took that leap and listen to myself about the story. Luke is the first book in Madison Quinn’s Dark Water Security series. The mystery, thriller, and psychological genres are my favorite and Luke have a bit of all those genres in the story. Luke had a rough go at life. He was kidnapped by a crazy mad man. He has tried to put it behind him, but little things keep coming up to remind him of that time. Along comes Emily and Jake is reminded of someone of his past, but he keeps putting that out of his mind. He is attracted to Emily, but he is trying to let the feeling go of her familiarity and embrace her for who she is.

Movie Star (21st Century Courtesan Book 2) By Pamela DuMond – Review by Erica Fish

Movie Star (21st Century Courtesan, #2)Movie Star by Pamela DuMond
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Movie Star by Pamela DuMond is a great addition to her series 21st Century Courtesan. To be honest I was thinking that this series was going to be a new romance series, which is not my most favorite genre, I was really wrong. Ms. DuMond has written a new romance series, but there are so many angles that it has a bracket all of it own in my genre lists. The characters are amazing and the story line is fully develop and keeps bringing me back to the story when I think I have figured out some of the mysteries going on with the story. This book is the continuation of Evie but has added Jake the movie star in for some flair. It appears as if Jake has been taken back and Evie is not sure why he feels that way. She decides to help Jake and that is when everything comes forward. Will Evie help Jake and will Jake help Evie back?

Eight Steps to Alpha: A Friends to Lovers Romance by Taylor Sullivan – Review by Erica Fish

Eight Steps to Alpha (Nerdy by Nature, #1)Eight Steps to Alpha by Taylor Sullivan
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Eight Steps: A Friends to Lovers Romance by Taylor Sullivan is a fun romance story. This book is what the doctor ordered, a fun forget about the real world and join in Elliot’s world. Ms. Sullivan did a wonderful job writing the characters for this story. For the first time, I felt like I had a little nerdy brother who needed some advice on how to get the attention of the opposite sex. This story made me laugh, cry, and smile throughout the story. Elliot is a nerdy guy who wonders why he cannot seem to get the eye of the opposite sex. He asks his friends for advice and tries to use what he has been shown to catch the eye of a special lady. Will Elliot get the eye of that special person or will his nerdy side keep him all alone?

Hard as Steel (Surviving Series, #4) by Virginia Wine – Review by Erica Fish

Hard as Steel: Book four (Hard as Steel: Book four by Virginia Wine
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Content warning: Contains adult content, language, and scenes that may not be suitable for all audiences.

Hard as Steel is the book four in the Surviving Series by Virginia Wine and this book is not a read alone story as the characters do carry from the previous books. I love the way Ms. Wine writes her characters as if they are my friends in real life. I was pulled into this story from the first paragraph until the last word. Hard as Steel has some adult content that may not be for everyone and I found myself having some trouble getting through a couple of scenes but I am glad I did not give up. On the other hand there is some good times as well, there is mystery, love, comedy, suspense and romance. I recommend reading this story especially if you have read the other books.

The Monster’s Lover (The Fenris Series Book 1) by Samantha MacLeod – Review by Erica Fish

The Monster's LoverThe Monster’s Lover by Samantha MacLeod
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Monster’s Lover by Samantha MacLeod is an excellent addition to the books I have read by Ms. MacLeod. This story has a mythological component that makes me even more interested in the story. This tale is based on the Norse Myth of Fenir, which is about a monstrous wolf. Not only are there mythological components, but also fantasy, action adventure and a little romance thrown in. Ms. MacLeod has complex story pattern that reminds me of a spider’s web. Everything is so interconnected that not even one pebble is out of place. Since I knew of her writing pattern, I was prepared to read the story in one sitting. I was right to think so. I felt like I was there in the story and riding along just out of sight of the characters. This story is about Sol who has been promised to the harem of King Kokkyn. Sol’s mother could not meet her payments and Sol was the price for her family to eat over the winter. Sol goes to clean up in the river and she meets Fenris. That was the beginning and the end for Sol. She cannot get Fenris out of her mind. You will have to read more to get the full story. I cannot wait to see what is next for Sol and Fenris.

Finding Juniper (Smoke Series Book 3) by Sadia Ash – Review by Erica Fish

Finding JuniperFinding Juniper by Sadia Ash
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Finding Juniper is the third book in the Smoke Series by Sadia Ash. This is not a stand-alone book and you will benefit from reading the first two books. Ms. Ash does an amazing job keeping the characters real and as close to normal friends as possible. Juniper is a real book friend that I can relate with her situation. She has lost her trust and hope in relationships. Kyle has broken Juniper’s trust, hope, and heart. Will Juniper be able to forgive Kyle? This emotional roller coaster of a ride will tug on your heart strings. I found myself asking questions of Juniper like she was sitting next to me or across from me. I had a box of tissues and a nice cozy spot to read Finding Juniper. Make sure you can read the story in its entirety and keep that box of tissues close.

Beneath the Surface (Gray Ghost #3)Beneath the Surface by Amy McKinley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I have to admit when I started reading the Gray Ghost Novel set, I knew I was going to just love it. Amy McKinley has an amazing gift to write mystery, suspense, and romance all roll up into one. When I am reading her story, I do not feel like the focus is romance. In this story we learn about Hannah and Jack. These characters feel like good friends. Hannah is a strong character, but she has a past that she has kept secret. Jack is a member of the Gray Ghost team which is a Navy Seal team. Hannah is traveling with a secret weapon that was hijacked and Jack was deployed to recover the weapon. There is a mystery involving this weapon. Will Jack be able to complete his mission or will he have heartache over the truth of what is going on? Will Hannah open up to Jack and tell him the secrets of her past? This is one story you will have to read to find out what is going to happen to Jack, Hannah, and the secret weapon.

Salvation: An Ash Park Prequel Novella (Ash Park, #0.5)Salvation: An Ash Park Prequel Novella by Meghan O’Flynn
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Salvation: An Ash Park Prequel is outstanding. I have read all of the books and I can tell you each book builds and builds to the final word. Meghan O’Flynn is a master mind with the thriller, mystery, suspense, twists, and everything else she wants to put into her story. I loved how I felt I was inside the story right there with Detective Edward Petrosky and rode the emotional roller coaster he is on. This story is where it all begins. So I highly recommend reading this book first. I learned about the characters in this story which gave great insight for the Detective Edward in the other books. I am afraid if I keep talking I will give spoilers and that would not be good for anyone. So sit down, grab your most comfortable blanket, get tissue, and settle in to start with Salvation: An Ash Park Prequel.

Caught in the Spin is the second book in the Caught series. When I first started to read this series, I almost stopped reading because of the romance theme but that would have been a big mistake. This story is more than a romance story. It has an element of suspense and mystery. Sharleen Scott can tell a great story and I felt like I was in the story with Tallie and Tom. Tallie is looking for a place to go that will be safe for her and her son from her ex-husband who has been in prison. Will there be refuge in the ranch with Tom or will Tallie’s ex-husband find them and take her son away from her?

Less You Know: Gripping Psychological SuspenseLess You Know: Gripping Psychological Suspense by Rowena Holloway
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Less You Know is the second book in Rowena Holloway’s Ashes to Ashes series. I have to admit I was biting at the bit to read this story. I will warn you make sure you read Bad Things Happen as this is the first book in the series and it lays the ground work for Less You Know. Rowena Holloway has a way of weaving a web of a story because one never knows what is going on until you are in the web. This is a psychological thriller, suspense, danger, secrets, and lots of twists and turns. There were several times that I was totally off base in my thinking and replayed the story in my head to just imagine what happened. That to me makes the story a great read. If you can be directed in one way of your thoughts of what is going on just to be slapped in the head because you totally missed it makes me seek out other stories by Rowena Holloway because she ranks high in my author’s I love.

Briefly Charlotte Ashe is up to it again. She is investigating again this time with her friend Allie. Charlotte did not realize there were secrets in Allie’s life that come out and takes Charlotte back. Charlotte does not know what to do but she is sure of one thing, she needs to find Allie and get everything out in the open.

Full Glasses and Burju Shoes by Blake Blessing – Review by Erica Fish

Full Glasses and Burju ShoesFull Glasses and Burju Shoes by Blake Blessing
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Full Glasses and Burju Shoes by Blake Blessing was an interesting read. This was a military romance story. There is a lot of thought into the characters of the book. The characters are fully developed, and I can substitute them for people who are in my life now. There are emotional roller coaster going through out the story. The story tells of two people who are hurting and is not sure a relationship will really help them out of their pain. Perrin is a story powerful woman who puts her all into everything. She is very inpulsive and obsessive because she does not know any other way to be. She feels there is no time to have relationships. She puts in a lot of time into everything else and that is how she feels. Then there is Emil (Emiliano) who is bitter and broken. He has built up walls around himself because combat left him that way. He did not think anyone could or would want to him heal from this point in his life. That all changed when Perrin and Emil met. You will have to read the story to see how it ends. I promise you will not be sorry.

An Italian Adventure is my first book by Gaia Amman. I was not sure what to expect and I am glad to find out that it was a fun story. Amman did a great job of telling the story in such detail that I felt like I was right there with Leda. The main character Leda was built by Amman in her own image when she was young. The setting is in Italy. The country through Leda’s eye is beautiful. The fun had just begun for Leda and by the time you are done reading the story you will be amazed with your mind’s eye that you could mentally put everything together as it should be. I cannot wait to read the other books in this series.

Perilous Confessions (The Possession Chronicles Book 1)Perilous Confessions by Carrie Dalby
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Perilous Confessions by Carrie Dalby is my first read by this author. It was a great first introduction to her writing. I enjoyed her writing style. I am not a history person because I cannot remember dates, on the other hand I can remember eras and remember what makes them important. Dalby was true to the time period and I really appreciated the darkness of the story, others call it gothic and that is a great description as well. The story of Lucy and Alex is one of mystery, secrets, passion and guilt. Lucy knows what she wants to do and has the drive to get it done. Alex has been groomed by his parents to be a certain male role. He is learning what is important to him and wonders if he should abandon everything he has been doing so far. Will there be a happy ending for Lucy and Alex? Will families keep apart what others had put together? You will have to read the book to find out.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Bad Things Happen by Rowena Holloway is what the title says “A Gripping Psychological Suspense” story. Rowena Holloway does an amazing job keeping the mystery going through out the story. This story is a dark thriller with suspense, secrets, truth, twists, and turns. Holloway makes sure that you have all the information you need to understand the story fully. There are times when I just wanted to close my eyes and get lost into my “happy world” because I was fearful for what was coming. Then BAM!!!! A twisty turn comes and makes me reread what I had just read because I missed the turn to her twist. T. Birmingham did it again. I love Written in the Stars. That does not mean I do not love A Terrible Beauty because I do. I just love Winter and Eagle characters. Again this is a sensitive subject matter and there is still the warning for older teens and adults only. This story has suspense, military romance, and even some thriller mixed in. This installment is about Winter and Eagle. Eagle is the president of the Fallen Eagles and Winter runs the Salon in town. There is a mystery that has come knocking on the door of the town. Will everyone come together to protect each other or will there be a fall out and no one is safe? I hope you enjoy this story and remember to keep tissues close by.

T. Birmingham took sensitive subject matters and created a wonderful book series, Fallen Eagles MC Series. Book 1 is A Terrible Beauty which is a novella and a great opening to say the least. The way Birmingham brought the characters to life on the page is outstanding. I felt like I was there watching everything transpire. I will have to say that there are some adult subject matters and I would recommend this story to be for older teens (16 & 17) and adults. This story is a suspense and military romance genre. Birmingham sent me on a roller coaster ride with my emotions and found it difficult at some points within the story. When I found that happening I had to reassure myself it was a fiction book. This story is about Kit and Lee and everything around them. I hope you enjoy this story as well as I have and remember keep tissues by you while reading.

This story had me guessing all the way through until the end. Meghan O’Flynn has become one of my favorite authors. She has a way of keeping the hints very subtle and the story moving ahead. If you are not careful you will miss some important parts. There was a couple of sections when I was turning the page and I had to go back and reread the sentence or sentences. The characters are fully developed. This is a very dark twisted novel. I will admit that I was scared out of my mind at times. That is what I love about this author. I can be totally scared thinking that this is happening in the woods behind my house when I know that this is a fictitious story. I hope that you enjoy this book as much as I did.

In this installment, Killer Lawyer Mark Nolan has hit it out of the park again. This is the third book and it has just as much action, mystery, suspense, drama, and humor as the first two books. I love the characters that Mark Nolan writes about Jake and Cody. Now one would think that Jack and Cody are male characters, you would be half right Jake is a man and Cody is his ex-military dog that goes with him everywhere. That is what I love about the Jack Wolfe stories the fact that there is a human male character, Jake as a main character and a male dog character, Cody as the other main character. I find myself yelling at the kindle as I was reading this story. There was something always coming around the corner. This whole series has been amazing. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
