A Suitable Affair (The Macalisters, #1)A Suitable Affair by Erica Taylor
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A Suitable Affair is a historical romance book. Erica Taylor does an amazing job with historical romance/fiction genre. The subject I did not like the most in school was history. This author makes this genre exciting. Being this is a romance during the Victorian era make this even more beautiful. The characters are fully developed and complex which makes the story move quickly. This story is also interesting because it is not just a romance story, but also has elements of mystery, thrillers and psychological aspects. Lady Susanna is the main character who is in the process of finding a husband. Who will Lady Susanna find as a suiter? Will there be a forbidden love? One will have to read to find out.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Perfect Duchess by Erica Taylor a four-star read that you will dance away with. This is the second novel in the Macalisters series and in my opinion, you can read them in any order, they do build on each other but don’t necessarily need an order. There is lots going on and lots that could drag you down as you read, but the author somehow manages to keep you from getting bogged down in the terrible things that have happened to the characters in the past and just loving the drama and passion of the current along with some amazingly described scenes.

The Perfect Duchess by Erica Taylor

Five Stars

I couldn’t imagine living the way Clara had too. The fact that people treated her like that was hurtful and made me angry. The disrespect from her own family. I really like the McAlister family. They’re open and loving. They give everyone a chance and don’t hold rumors against them. Andrew was so cold to people it was a difficult defense mechanism to have. I liked how the author didn’t have them falling right away. There was a growing romance that required each to give in order to receive. The ton is such a ridiculous group. The standards and gossip were full of hypocrisies.

A Suitable Affair by Erica Taylor is a four-star read that will pack a punch. This is the first novel in the Macalisters series, and it shows us what a promising series this is going to be. It’s a historical romance that will surprise you, I am not a huge fan of the genre but after seeing some friends rave about this one and how it was more than just your typical historical romance, I gave it a go and enjoyed it. There was a bit of everything in this story, Lady Susanna Macalister was so much more than I expected her to be, what a fab character. Throw in a couple of great suitors and you have a great story.

A Suitable Affair was a great 5 star read.

We meet Susanna who has decided to pursue something with Lord Riverton since no one seems to be showing interest in marrying her, no thanks to her brothers. She thinks he’s the only one, until she meets Lord Westcott, could there be something there with him?

Lord Westcott (Ian) meets Susanna while walking through the park, after seeing who she is with he decides to get vengeance against her suitor. Ian tries to warn Susanna away from Lord Riverton, will it work? Will he end up falling for her?

Susanna was great, although I think she always got the short end of the stick when it came to her brothers. I didn’t like how they treated her. I really wanted her to find someone that would sweep her off her feet. The secondary characters were great and I look forward to reading more from them. Overall I really enjoyed this book, I had some LOL moments. Erica Taylor has done a great job with her debut book, I was pulled right in by her writing.

I was so excited to get into the second book of this series. I enjoyed A Suitable Affair so much and was so intrigued by Clara and Andrew. I absolutely tore through this book. There were a couple twists I picked up on a smidge before it was made clear but Erica Taylor got me again with that twist!
One of my favorite parts of this book was the snippets of the gossip rag that all the society people would have been reading and I think it added an extra layer to the story. You could really see how a small insignificant action would be blow out of proportion and how horribly wicked whoever ran that column was. Cut throat doesn’t even come close to the actions of some of these ladies trying to catch Andrew’s eye when he so clearly loved Clara.
Since the events of this book take place before the events of the first book, I already knew what was going to happen but I think I enjoyed it more so because of that. Little hints were dropped about Clara’s crazy past and I was excited to figure out the rest.
Can’t wait for book three and I really hope there is a book about Norah. I NEED to know about why she is still friends with Lady Laura when she is the epitome of toxic. Norah has been cryptic about why she is still friends with her and I want to know the reason!

A Suitable Affair is book one  in the Macalisters series by Erica Taylor. Another new author I get to discover. I am always eager to read new and exciting stories. Words are my passion. Reading makes my soul happy. I cherish the feeling of excitement I get when reading a good story. You can tell that a little something special is added by an author that exists just to provide stories to the world. It seems there is no limit to these creative marvels.

Lady Susan wants to be married. Ian cannot escape the darkness. An unlikely coupling, can they beat the odds? This story was hauntingly beautiful and written with precision and perfect detail. The characters were multi faceted, with varying idiosyncrasies and vast differences, all coming together to compliment, contribute and satisfy. There were unexpected twists to this story, so readers really do get more than they could imagine. A tale that never disappointed, and always delivered exceptionally. 5 stars.

A Suitable Affair by Erica Taylor is the first book in the Macalisters series. This regency era book tells the story of Ian Carlisle, the Earl of Westcott and Lady Susanna Macalister. Susanna is accepting a marriage proposal from someone from Ian’s past. Can he help her before it’s too late?
I love a historical fiction story and this was good because it incorporated in some mystery and suspense which I prefer over just a romance. The characters are interesting and I can see that this series will be interesting since the Macalister family is so large. Overall the story was solid as well as the characters. I liked that there was some backstory and how the stories melded with one another. I look forward to reading the rest of this series.

The story of Susanna and Ian is filled with intrigue, passion, and bold decisions. Some of those decisions, however bold they may be, made me want to scream “How can someone so smart be so dense?!” But that makes for better reading.
Susanna is being courted by a man called Riverton and he has the personality of wet paper. The first time he shows a genuine emotion is when Susanna almost gets trampled by a horse. The flash of pure hatred at the rider, but oddly not the situation, is on his face for such a brief moment that Susanna thinks she imagined it.
Ian, the ill tempered lord riding the horse, hold Riverton responsible for the death of his sister and makes a quick judgement about the woman currently being courted by the man he hates.
I am always fascinated by the absurdity of social rules and norms in the 1800’s or so and I’m excited to start the next book and read more about the plethora of great characters Erica Taylor has created.

The Perfect Duchess is the second book that I have read by this author and again it was enjoyable historical romance read. The author provides a richly detailed story that enabled me to imagine what I was reading, something that I love in particular with historical romance stories. The flow and pace of the story was good and I thought that author’s writing again was great. The story was easy to read and my interest was kept throughout.
I really liked the main characters, Clara and Andrew. For the time period I liked that Clara was independent and feisty – she was happy to take matters in her own hands at time. I really admired her tenacity at times!
Andrew was a little bit hard to read at times but I liked that I had to work hard to get to know him and understand him better. I could feel that there was this connection between the two of them despite what had happened in their past. I, personally, thought that they made a lovely couple and was rotting for them the whole way through.
Another enjoyable read from this author and I can’t wait to read more from her again!

The story The Perfect Duchess (The Macalisters Book 2) by Erica Taylor is a historical romance book. This is a story that takes you back to a time when whispers and gossip rule the day. Situations can evolve into scandal no matter how innocent or untrue the rumors are. I found myself getting lost in this book and the time period that it is set in. I loved reading about the characters of Andrew Macalister and Lady Clara Masson. Andrew, who is also known as the Stone Duke of Bradstone, is a man that seems to be hard and cold. He does the duties and responsibilities that are expected of him. This does come at a cost to him personally. Lady Clara is a woman who others in society avoid and dismiss. When her life is threatened by her brother Andrew steps up to save her by proposing marriage. He wants to keep her safe and protected. How deep do his feelings for Clara run? Will Clara trust Andrew with her heart? What does the future hold for both Andrew and Clara? Read this book to find out. This story has romantic dialogue and some steamy scenes. There are also times when I wondered what was going to happen next. My emotions went up and down when reading this story. As the book progressed, I grew to care about both Andrew and Clara and wanted them to find happiness. There are additional characters that I enjoyed reading about. This is the second story in the series and I loved it just as much as the first one. I look forward to reading the next book.

Erica Taylor continues to captivate me with her regency novels. Although period pieces, the characters continue to be relatable and complex. We find ourselves provided with an opportunity to read more about two of the characters we met in book one. But with the way the story unfolds this book can easily stand on its own and the reader not be at a disadvantage if doing so. Taylor has a keen ear to the authenticity for this time period and lends itself toward an Austen-esque style. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and cannot wait to continue my journey with the Macalisters.

A Suitable Affair was a entertaining read. It made me want to be in that time. To do things deemed scandalous. Susanna us the type of girl I would’ve been in these times. To bend the rules to fit your will. To make them work for you. I love big family as I have one myself. The joy and craziness is addicting. There was so much pain and sadness from both Susanna and Ian. I really liked the whole espionage but not espionage thing Ian had going on. I liked that Susanna knew what she wanted and didn’t stop herself from going for it saying forget the rules. I don’t like the times because women weren’t seen as people but property. The mother’s only looking to marry their young girls to rich titles. The author made the story light by adding the humor. Ian was perfect because he was serious but also knew how to laugh.

A Suitable Affair is the first in the Macalisters series written by Erica Taylor and it was really good. I haven’t read a Victorian romance with intrigue in quite a few years so I really enjoyed the story. The characters are strongly written and the loved the banter and quirkiness from them as well.
Lady Susanna Macalister’s is beautiful and wealthy but her marriage prospects are rather lacking. She doesn’t want a life of spinsterhood, so she decides a loveless marriage to Lord Riverton is better than none at all even if he dull. Susanna still longs for true, passionate love, the kind she grew up hearing stories about.
While out strolling in the park she nearly trampled by the handsome Earl of Westcott as he rides through Hyde Park. The earl embraces this chance encounter as an opportunity for vengeance, for Lord Riverton is the very man whom Wescott suspects is responsible for the death of his sister.
He takes it upon his self to warn Lady Susanna but she is surprises him she is not what she seems…. As they get to know each other she realizes she might have found what she was looking for all along. Wescott starts this thing simply a desire to save another unsuspecting lady from his sister’s fate, or something deeper?
Will Wescott find Riverton guilty? Will he be able to save Susanna? Will Susanna get her love story? You will have to read this great story to find out what happens….

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A Suitable Affair by Erica Taylor is the first book in the Macalisters series. This was a fine example of a regency romance.
I always hesitate before reading anything in this genre as I always find it so predictable and boring. However this book was far from both of those. I felt the thrill of the story all the way through. The MC’s were exciting to read about and the story was constantly developing. The book never at any point just sat back and let itself rely on the story so far, it kept pace and kept you interested.
The twist at the end was something I didn’t see coming which made this book even better.
As a new author to me I didn’t know what to expect at all and all I can say is I am so glad I gave this series a chance. I am looking forward to the rest.

A Suitable Affair, book 1 in The Macalisters series, was a really great historical romance read. I haven’t read anything by this author before and I really liked her writing style. The story was detailed and I really liked the characters. There were some good twists and turns in the story too which kept me fully invested in what was happening.
Susanna was a great female lead. I did feel sorry for her at times; she was desperate to find the love that she had always heard stories about but due to family influences was destined to marry someone she definitely didn’t want to. I think this was probably very fitting for the ear that they story was set in so I liked that Susanna had a little determination about her. She deserved to find somebody she loved and who loved her in return.
When Ian first comes into the story I thought he would be perfect for Susanna, he was a nice character but also so frustrating at times! They did seem to have this genuine connection which I loved.
There were some great secondary characters in the story too and I hope they get their own story!

A Suitable Affair (The Macalisters, #1)A Suitable Affair by Erica Taylor
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A Suitable Affair is the first book in The Macalisters Series by Erica Taylor. This is a really great historical/regency romance- full of mystery, drama, revenge, humour, and so much more. Ms. Taylor is a mew-to-me author whose work I am happy to have discovered as she certainly knows how to tell a clever, captivating story.
Lady Susanna Macalister is twenty-two years old, which in 1830’s London society is getting very close to becoming an old maid. Susanna feels she has a duty to her family to find a suitable husband and takes her responsibility quite seriously. But she feels time slipping away from her, and feels her options are running out. It’s not that she wasn’t beautiful, or independently wealthy- it was her overly protective brother/s, her status, and her confident, non-conformity that had the gentlemen shying away. All except Lord Riverton who had been courting her for the past few months. She expected he would propose any day now, and that should have pleased her, but she just wasn’t all that excited by the thought. He would make a fine husband, safe, reliable, stable and ‘proper’……and oh so boring. She was afraid she was ‘settling’, instead of holding out for an epic romance- one that would sweep her off her feet and leave her breathless. But the chances of that happening are quite slim. SO, what happens when a handsome stranger nearly runs her down with his horse, while she is taking a quiet walk through Hyde Park? Why does he both intrigue and irritate her so? She can’t stop thinking about him. And when their paths keep crossing, the spark between them gets more intense. What about Lord Riverton, who is currently courting her? But, we soon learn that there is more to this handsome stranger than he’s letting on- which adds an extra element of mystery and suspense to the story- and had me flipping pages, reading as fast as I could to find out what his secrets were, and how the story plays out!
I really enjoyed this book, and highly recommend it to anyone who likes historical romance with a clever storyline. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series. Bring on book #2!

Thank you, Ms. Taylor!

My Rating: 4 of 5 stars

A Suitable Affair (The Macalisters #1) by Erica Taylor was an entertaining, enagain read, that kept me reading until the very end.

My first read from this author, I dove into this book head first not even looking at the reviews, because with that beautiful cover and steller synopsis, there was no need to look any further, well for me anyways. It was a prize gamble because this book drew me in from that first page, that first meeting, and it kept my attention right until the last word was read.

Detail with beautiful writing and rich multi layer characters, this historical fiction has a little bit of everything. You can tell care and research went into making this read as authentic as possible, especially in regards to social etiquette for that time. I fell right away for our lead MC Susanna. She was definitely a head of her time, while trying to follow the strict social rules and expectations for women of that era. I loved her snarky remarks, and how she managed to be witty and sarcastic, while keeping within those norms. I got a little North and South feel, and that connection just made this story all the more enjoyable.

The only thing that got me down, was Westcott, and how though he wanted to be with her, properly court her and marry, he pushed Susanna into trying to break some of those genteel lady rules, that could have severely tarnished her reputation. As nice and sweet as the guy was, (don’t get me wrong I love him as the lead male MC), I felt like he was a little removed from what social norms were. But at the same time, I do get again how that came about, as he does mention that he never really got into the courts, because he left London pretty much as soon as he was able. I believe that the amount of pushing, was for me, longer than necessary.

Overall this book has mystery, romance, witty engaging dialogue, and a multi layer plot, that will keep you on your toes. So please take my super high recommendation and my stamp of approval that you will fall for this seamly at odds pair, and have you before you know it, rooting for them.

Happy Reading

The story A Suitable Affair (The Macalisters Book 1) by Erica Taylor is a historical romance book. This is a story that transports you to a time of society functions, formal balls, and rules of propriety. It is a book that hooked me in from the very beginning and I got lost in the pages. I enjoyed the plot/storyline and loved reading about the characters of Lady Susanna Macalister and Ian Carlisle, the Earl of Westcott. Susanna is a woman who shows strength, is intelligent, generous, and kind. She also is unmarried. I like the fact that Susanna is someone who while doesn’t disregard all of the rules of society, she is a woman who will push their limits. She lives in a time when scandal can ruin a life and just rumors can hurt a reputation. She finds herself being called on by a man that she doesn’t quite understand or have strong feelings for. Ian is a man whose past haunts him. He feels guilt over his sister’s death and his life seems to be surrounded in darkness. That is why he feels that he must save Susanna from the man that he holds responsible for his sister’s death. Susanna soon finds herself with feelings for Ian. He says that he has nothing to offer her. Is that really true? What does the future hold for Susanna and Ian? Read this book to find out. This is a story that I just couldn’t put down until I had finished it. I had to know how it ends. There is some mystery and times when you wonder how much danger some of the characters are in. I could feel the passion and desire growing between Susanna and Ian and there are some steamy moments between them. There is also flirting and bantering. I grew to care about Susanna and Ian and found myself wanting them to find happiness. Will they find a HEA? There are also other characters that I enjoyed reading about and the part that they play in the story. This is a story I never wanted to end.

Despite being beautiful and wealthy, Lady Susanna Macalister’s marriage prospects are rather lacking. To avoid a life of spinsterhood, she decides a loveless marriage to the dull and unromantic Lord Riverton is better than none at all. But still, Susanna longs for true, passionate love, the kind she grew up hearing stories about.

Enjoying a quiet walk with her insipid suitor one afternoon, Susanna is nearly trampled by the handsome Earl of Westcott as he rides through Hyde Park. Driven by his own guilt and despair, the earl embraces this chance encounter as an opportunity for vengeance, for Lord Riverton is the very man whom Wescott suspects is responsible for the untimely death of his beloved sister. But is his mission of separating Susanna from Lord Riverton simply a desire to save another unsuspecting lady from his sister’s fate, or something deeper?

As Susanna helps Lord Westcott investigate her future fiance, she realizes she might have found what she was looking for all along. Can the pair keep their budding romance a secret from everyone around them until the investigation is over? Or will the unsuspecting Lord Riverton win Susanna’s hand in marriage before the truth comes out?
