Ocean’s Light (Blood of the Pirate BOOK 1) by Mina Chara – Review by Erin Wolf

The Ocean's LightThe Ocean’s Light by Mina Chara
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I give The Ocean’s Light (Blood of the Pirate Book 1) by Mina Chara, 5 stars.

What I really enjoyed about this action/adventure book was that it delves right into things, not stringing it out, but getting right into the action. A book involving a treasure map and searching by boat for treasure usually keeps us on the boat for quite a while as they travel to where they believe is the right place. Not so with this book. The author puts us into things so much sooner. But don’t get me wrong, the story does not feel rushed at all. The story itself is also so enjoyable. It reminds me of Indiana Jones meets Pirate of the Caribbean, with a supernatural element.

Then there are the characters. Although the character is young adult, this book is very enjoyable for all adults. Evie is so good as the main character. A little naive in the beginning, she learns as she goes and rely on her gut to tell her who is good people. Not your average pirate, she quickly learns to be useful. The other characters, both good and bad, help round out this book. Each one is unique and an asset to the book.

If you enjoy action/adventure set around the old pirate world, I highly recommend this book. I, for one, could not put it down until I finished. I also anxiously await book two.

Loyalty & Lies (Spicetopia Book 6) by Phoebe Alexander – Review by Erin Wolf

Loyalty & LiesLoyalty & Lies by Phoebe Alexander
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I give Loyalty & Lies (Spicetopia Book 6) by Phoebe Alexander, 5 stars.

If you have been following the Eastern Shore Swingers series by this author, you will recognize Calvin and Paisley. The story of how they first met is very good and I highly recommend it, but this book can easily be read without it. It is a story that works great as a standalone, and takes place after they have been married a few years.

This is the first time I remember the author revisiting the same couple from a previous book. I wasn’t sure how I would like it, but I did appreciate that it was yet again a different angle from one we have seen before. I don’t know why I worried, this author continuously amazes my by her precise and imaginative writing. As usual, I was pulled in from the very beginning and it just kept getting better and better. Being set in an adult amusement park, there is of course plenty of heat in his book but it is so, so much more. There are angles going on the the characters are not aware of. There is suspense and tension, both in the story and in their relationship.

Overall, this is a wonderful modern romance book with lots of heat but also a story that takes you for a roller coaster ride. I could not put it down and highly recommend it. As previously stated, it can be read by itself, but I also recommend the rest of this series as well as the Eastern Shore Singers series.

Witness (Ash Park Series Book 9) by Meghan O’Flynn – Review by Erin Wolf

Witness: An Ash Park Novel (Volume 9)Witness: An Ash Park Novel by Meghan O’Flynn
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I give Witness: An Ash Park Novel (Volume 9) by Meghan O’Flynn, 5 stars.

I have been following this series, but I somehow forget just how good it is until I pick up the next book. This one is no exception. The story pulled me in right away. There is so much going on, and you never know which turn in this thrilling ride you will take next. It is full of action, suspense, some gripping terror, and lots of what will happen next. I kept trying to figure it out, to know avail. But that’s a good thing, I don’t like my suspense to be predictable.

As I have said, I have read other books in this series and I love how the characters are constantly evolving and growing. It’s not always in a good way, but it’s the only way they know how. They are trying their hardest though to do the right thing. These characters are what really make this book and series what it is.

If you are a fan of gripping suspense, this book and series are for you.

A Tennis Pro To Die For (Cozy Mysteries To Die For Book 3) by Judy Moore – Review by Erin Wolf

A Tennis Pro To Die For (Cozy Mysteries to Die For, #3)A Tennis Pro To Die For by Judy Moore
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I give A Tennis Pro To Die For (Cozy Mysteries To Die For Book 3) by Judy Moore, 5 stars.

This is another thrilling cozy mystery in such a fun series. This can be read as a stand alone, but if you are following the series, you will enjoy this book even more. Yes, there is another whodunit for Beck to solve, but it is totally different than the last two. While Beck and her family and friends are back as well as her bookshop, the murder involves a country club and the employees and residents there. This bring a whole new spin on things. Plus, Beck being away for a while makes both Beck and Devon ponder on their futures. You will have to read the book to see just what I mean.

I love how the author brings back the characters we love, yet makes the main story different enough from the previous ones to keep us enthralled until the very end. If you are a fan of Agatha Christie and cozy mysteries, I highly recommend both this book and series.

Slash & Burn (Nite Fire, #4)Slash & Burn by C.L. Schneider
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I give Nite Fire: Slash & Burn by C.L. Schneider, 5 stars.

This is Urban Fantasy at its finest. The 4th book in the series and the story just keeps getting better and better. The story is gripping from the beginning, I was pulled in immediately and couldn’t put the book down. There are so many twists and turns, you may get dizzy. But in a good way — you will gladly continue on the crazy ride. Not only do we learn so much more of Dahlia’s past, but all of the characters are constantly evolving to keep up with the changes happening around them. I am fascinated by the growth they have taken, both good and bad.

An overall exceptional Urban Fantasy, I highly recommend this book. Part of a continuation of story, I do recommend reading the other books in the series first. You will have a new binge-worthy series to catch up on.

Third Time’s a Ghost (Haunted Ever After Book 3) by Carrie Pulkinen – Review by Erin Wolf

Third Time's a Ghost: A Ghostly Paranormal Romance (Haunted Ever After, #3)Third Time’s a Ghost: A Ghostly Paranormal Romance by Carrie Pulkinen
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I give Third Time’s a Ghost: A Ghostly Paranormal Romance (Haunted Ever After Book 3) by Carrie Pulkinen, 5 stars.

The third book in this wonderful series focuses on Gage and Erica. If you have been reading the series, you will recognize Gage. Erica is introduced to us in this book. Both are wonderful characters and it is interesting to see their interactions with each other since they were good friends in childhood, but drifted apart. They have their own issues they carry too, which impedes upon any relationship they may want to explore.

As the series implies, there are ghosts and the supernatural at work in this book too. This adds suspense to this paranormal romance and rounds outs the book very nicely. I quite enjoyed this side of the story and could not guess what exactly would happen next. I love to be surprised by my books.

If you are a fan paranormal romance with fun characters and a great story, this book and series are for you.

Goddess of Everything by Paul DeBlassie III – Review by Erin Wolf

Goddess of EverythingGoddess of Everything by Paul DeBlassie III
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I give Goddess of Everything by Paul DeBlassie III, 4 stars.

This was a very unique and interesting story. The way it is written reminds me of the stories passed down from generation to generation by the peoples whom have roamed this earth for many, many years. It also seems fable-like, there is definitely great wisdom to be found within the story. The author has a very unique style of writing, relying less on spoken dialogue and more on giving us very detailed descriptions of what exactly is happening. I will admit, it took some getting used to, but once I got used to it, I was pulled in. This is the essential good vs. evil, but the evil is in hiding. I could not wait to find out who would prevail.

This is very much an adult book, as some of the subjects maybe disturbing to the younger people and hose fainter of heart. That being said, if you are interested in a suspense/horror tale with supernatural elements that also teaches you a lesson, this book is for you.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I give Second Chance Spirit: A Ghostly Paranormal Romance (Haunted Ever After Book 2) by Carrie Pulkinen, 5 stars.

If you have read book one in the series, you are familiar with both of these characters. I was really excited when I saw that this book was about them. I was not disappointed either. We learn so much more about them, what led them to be who they are today. We also see who they really are now dealing with the house and the supernatural attached to it. They are just great, real people and makes this book what it is.

But let us not forget the story itself. Going by the name of the series, there are ghosts involved. The house Trent inherits is right out of a horror movie, but one I myself would love fix up and live in. I could imagine myself right there in it. The bad vibes they feel in house, the things happening to them, again, remind me of a horror movie, but in the best way. I would not say this is a horror book, but what is and has happened is both eerie and heartbreaking.

If you are a fan of Paranormal Romance with a good dose of suspense, this book is for you. It can be read as a stand alone book, but I recommend the whole series.

Hungry Business: A Short StoryHungry Business: A Short Story by Maria DeBlassie
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I give Hungry Business: A Short Story by Maria DeBlassie, 5 stars.

I was absolutely blown away by this story. A horror book about dealing with the undead and dating at the same time? This is such a great concept. It’s funny, but at the same time, macabre. I honestly did not expect too much in such a short story, but the author really surprised me. I could not but it down.

Such a unique concept in a genre that tends to get a little stale, I hope there will be more books set I this world. I highly recommend it to those who need a quick fix of horror.

Hell In A Handbasket (Life is Hell #3)Hell In A Handbasket by Naomi Valkyrie
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I give Hell In A Handbasket (Life Is Hell Book 3) by Naomi Valkyrie, 5 stars.

If you have not read this series yet, you need to pick it up! The story continues in book 3 and this one is just as good as the rest. All of the characters are unique and interesting, but this time the focus is on two previously secondary characters, Oren and Teivel. The dynamic between these two characters is great. Oren really struggles to find who he really is while at the same time he’s both frustrated and attracted to Teivel. Teivel has essentially closed himself off feelings-wise. This has been hinted to in previous books, but now we find out why. The author does a wonderful job on his back story — I really understand him so much better now.

But this not just about the two of them — there is the tracking job Teivel is sent on, which turns out to be much more complex than he ever imagined. Then there is the baby dropped on their doorstep. In other words, there is so much going on in this book and the author weaves everything together seamlessly, making for such an intriguing take.

If you are a fan of paranormal romance/urban fantasy with strong characters and a little on the darker side, this book and series are for you.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I give Love at First Haunt: A Ghostly Paranormal Romance (Haunted Ever After Book 1) by Carrie Pulkinen, 5 stars.

This is the start of yet another wonderful series by this awesome author. Allison and Logan are great main characters — flawed but real with pasts they are trying to overcome. I love how this story is set around a medium, a real one who just wants to use her gifts to help people. She is so wonderful, I want her as my best friend. Logan meanwhile seems to have it all, but looks can be deceiving.

Unlike other books by this author, the whole story really revolves around these two people, but it is not all about their interest in each other. It shows how they each struggle with their past and how that is affecting them today. Plus, as the title suggests, there are of course ghosts trying to make themselves known. This makes things interesting in multiple ways.

This is a fun, interesting paranornormal romance book filled with an intriguing story and wonderful characters. I cannot wait to meet some of the secondary characters in future books. I highly recommend this book.

Black Dog Rising by Kat Caulberg – Review by Erin Wolf

Black Dog RisingBlack Dog Rising by Kat Caulberg
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I give Black Dog Rising by Kat Caulberg, 5 stars.

This was such a unique and interesting paranormal romance. There are creatures in this story we don’t see much of in this genre. In this day and age, it becomes increasingly more difficult to not read about the same creatures over and over. The way the author uses them is also different but at the same time oh so entertaining. The main characters are real and endearing. Emma comes to learn and accept more and more as the book goes on. To me, the best part of the story was the tests. This is where the characters and story really shine. Not to mention that it is set in England, where there is already so much history and magic. I hope there will be more books set in this world with these characters in the future.

If you are a fan of paranormal romance, this fun story is for you. I could not put it down until I was finished.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I give Mythical Alliance: Phoenix Team: The Complete Season by Claire Luana, 5 stars.

This collection is urban fantasy at its finest. I love how it is written in a serial format, it reminds me of those old serials from the early days of Hollywood. Superbly written, each story is connected and we learn a little more about each Phoenix Team member. That being said, each one is different from the other. I could not put this down. This is my favorite genre and this series is now at the top of those I love. I can’t say enough about how good this book is. The characters are all individual and have flaws along with there strong traits. The stories in each section are fun, exciting, suspenseful, and at times sad.

This collection has it all and I highly recommend it.

Murder at Lolly Beach (Eve Sawyer mystery series Book 2) by Jane Suen – Review by Erin Wolf

Murder at Lolly Beach (Eve Sawyer #2)Murder at Lolly Beach by Jane Suen
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I give Murder at Lolly Beach: An Eve Sawyer Mystery by Jane Suen, 4 stars.

Eve is at it again, although this time she is thrown into it. The second book in the series, Eve is continuing to grow into her work, even having a mentor this time. While she did not choose to solve this mystery, she feels compelled to. It takes us on a journey into what is really happening and just whom is behind it. Like any good mystery, this is not a linear path. There are many forks in the road and the twisting story will have you guessing until the end.

I could not put this book down and highly recommend this book and series to fans of wonderful mystery novels.

Stone of DestinyStone of Destiny by Nadine Travers
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I give Stone of Destiny (Juniper Samoni Trilogy Book 1) by Nadine Travers, 4 stars.

This was a very good urban fantasy packed with suspense, action, and all the emotions you can fathom. The author does a good job of throwing in surprises that keep you guessing. If you have read the Supernatural Intelligence Agency series, then you will already be familiar with the characters in this book. Juniper is a good main character and I cannot wait to see where the next books lead us in her life. The book splits between the different characters as did the previous series, and the only disappointing thing to me was that for a trilogy named after her, I would have like to see more of her point of view. Other than that, it is an interesting story that takes you on a rollercoaster of emotions and you will be on the edge of your seat until the end.

If you are a fan of action packed urban fantasy, this book is for you.

I give Flipping the Bird: A Paranormal Chick Lit Novel (Shift Creek Book 1) by Carrie Pulkinen, 5 stars.

This author never fails to amaze me by how good each and every one of her books are. This is a new series that I fell in love with in the very beginning. Alice is so much fun. Not to mention that I have very rarely (if at all) seen a crow shifter. This makes it even more refreshing . As you can tell by the title, this book is written a fun, entertaining way and you will be unable to put it down until you finish. Besides the fun aspect of the book, there is the romantic angle as well as suspense on what will happen to the town.

Overall, it is a quirky, fun supernatural romance that will leave you wanting more. I highly recommend this book.

The author weaves such a magical tale of fantasy that I did not want to my pull myself away from this world. The main characters are endearing, lovable but flawed. You can see them grow as they learn more about themselves and what really happened in the tragedies of their past. The story itself has so many things going on — it is a very complete story filled with every emotion possible. There were a few surprises that popped up along the way that I definitely wasn’t expecting, too.

Overall, this is a spectacular book that you will not want to put down until you are finished — then you will be yearning for more.

Hell Hath No Fury (Life is Hell #2)Hell Hath No Fury by Naomi Valkyrie
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I give Hell Hath No Fury (Life Is Hell Book 2) by Naomi Valkyrie, 5 stars.

This is the second book in the series and what an incredible book it is! Characters we met in book one take the center stage and do such an amazing job of pulling us in. I wanted to know more about Sheridan as soon as I first met her and I am so happy that this book is about her. We learn so much more about her and find out how wonderful and unique she really is. Her interest in Millicent is unique and refreshing. While different relationships are more acceptable in supernatural books, it is so refreshing that this series is up front about them. These two women are obviously interested in each other. At the same time, the author is not preaching or trying to convert us. It is just another relationship. That makes this good book even better.

But let us not forget the story itself. Full of all emotions, you will be on the edge of your seat the whole time. It kept me guessing until the very end. The suspense is really here in the book, it’s not just about the feelings the two main characters have for each other. I really like this in books — many things happening at once.

If you are a fan of urban fantasy/supernatural romance with exceptional characters and a vivid, imaginative story, this series and book are for you. It can be read as a stand-alone, but I recommend the whole series.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I give Bake Believe by Cori Cooper, 4 stars.

This is such a fun book, perfect for older children/young teens who like the magical side of things. The characters are fun, the story is interesting without being too dark, and it gives of an overall whimsical vibe. Cat is very superficial in the beginning of the book, but she grows immensely as the book goes on. The concept of this book is so original, that makes it even more interesting. The author is so good at weaving a tale that makes you yearn for more. While it is aimed at a younger generation, it really is enjoyable for all ages. I have not been a young teen in a very long time, yet I could not put this book down.

If you or your child like a light-hearted, magical story, I highly recommended this book.

I give Finders Reapers: A Paranormal Romantic Comedy (New Orleans Nocturnes Book 5) by Carrie Pulkinen, 5 stars.

This series is great. Each book reminds me how much I love this author and series. Finders Reapers is yet another win. We met these characters briefly in other books, but now it’s their turn to shine, and they do such a spectacular job. I instantly fell in love with Jasmine, she is quirky and fun with a good heart. Both of them are just misunderstood beings who long for another. The struggle with them is so interesting to watch as it progresses. Not to mention the problem going on within their beloved city. This book has all you would love in a fun package — supernatural beings, fun, action, and romance. I hope this series never ends.

If you are a fan of quirky supernatural romance, this book and series are for you. It can be read as a standalone, but the whole series is so fantastic, you should really read them all.

Eye of Death (Vampire State, #3)Eye of Death by Alexander Charalambides
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I give Eye of Death: A paranormal romance (Vampire State Book 3) by Alexander Charalambides, 4 stars.

Rowena is back and just trying to figure things out in this her new life. She has ideals, things she strongly believes in, and will do anything to uphold these. You really see her grow and learn to make her own decisions. She is a very strong character, yet she has her issues like anyone. She is what makes this series so good. The story itself is gripping and interesting, dystopia at it’s best.

This is the third book in the series and you really have to read the first two before you read this one. The one thing, I wish there was a short lead-in or reminders of what happened in previous books. It has been a long time since I read the last book, with many other books in between. It took me a bit to not feel lost. Of course, I do have a horrible memory. However, once I got into it, I could not put the book down.

If you are a fan of supernatural dystopia, I recommend this book and series.

I have read this series and while I know it’s going to be good, I always forget just how fun this series is. This book is no exception. Just the concept is hilarious and it is done in not only a fun way, but it is so interesting and keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole time. If you are familiar with the series, some of the characters you have come to love are back, and obviously we meet some new ones too. Santa and Mrs. Claus are great. The originality in this book makes the story so exceptional and you will be wishing there was more. At the same time, it is a complete story, the author does not leave you wondering.

While there are reoccurring characters from previous books, this one can easily be read as a standalone. If you are a fan of fun supernatural books and looking for something a little different for the holidays, this book is for you. In fact, considering the way this year has been, this is a refreshing, fun way to end the year.

What a fun read! This is my first book by this author, so I knew nothing about the characters or world this is set in. While I liked Joanie in this book, I hope she grows more into herself in future books. However, this book seems like it’s leading up to things, which is great for me, you are constantly waiting for the next thing to happen. Trying to solve the puzzle is the best part of a cozy mystery and this book exceeds expectations in that part. I love this inclusion of the gnomes too, what a brilliant, fun, and original idea! The other characters in this world really make this good book exceptional.

If you are a fan of paranormal cozy mysteries, I definitely recommend this book.

The characters are what really make this book for me. Jake and his dog have both been through a lot and struggle with their pasts. Finding each other was the best thing that happened to them both. These characters I found so endearing and realistic. The secondary characters round out the story well too and really make this a great book.

Then there is the story itself. Very detailed and suspenseful, the author has a way of making you feel like you have been dropped right into this book alongside Jake. I loved the progression of the story and could not put it down until I was finished.

If you are a fan of strong characters and a thrilling story, this book is for you.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I give Hunted by Sarah Biglow & Molly Zenk, 4 stars.

I really enjoy how the authors put their own spin on this vampire romance. Introducing the role playing game to me was ingenious. It made for an interesting and new base of a story. But this is not all this book has to offer. The characters in the story are what really makes this book so good. It’s not only the main characters, either. There are so many secondary characters that were quite interesting as well. I hope to see more of them in books to come too. But let us not forget Edith and Darren. They both have their own issues and misconceptions they have to try to overcome. The struggle and how they deal with them really make this book shine.

If you are a fan on interesting vampire romance, this book is for you.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I give The Devil’s Day (The Lucky Devil Book 3) by Megan Mackie 5 stars.

This series grabbed me from the very beginning and each book gets better and better. This one is no exception. There is plenty of action and suspense going on, but we also see how much Rune and St. Benedict have grown, and continue to grow. The characters are what really make this series. But they are not the only ones in this book. You will see those from previous books return, as well as some new characters. The story itself is so complex and enchanting. The author does a fantastic job of creating a world and story unlike any other. While in the same world as the previous books and an obvious continuation, this story is unique and enthralling. I hope this series never ends.

If you are a fan of urban fantasy with realistic main characters, this book and series are for you. In my opinion, it can be read as a standalone, but you will understand more if you read the previous books first.

This book was incredible. I love how it incorporated the whodunit with the supernatural. Yes, I have read these types of stories before, but the author really put her on spin on it. The story is gripping and very interesting. I was left guessing until the end. And then there are the characters. Delilah is absolutely wonderful and a new favorite main character. She is real and flawed, yet still has a big heart. The secondary characters are also great and make this book and world even better. Another thing I like is the variety of supernatural creatures and relationships that we see in his book. I get tired of seeing the same thing over and over and over, so I appreciate variety that much more.

If you are a fan of supernatural murder mysteries set in an incredible world, this book is for you.

WAR OF THE DAMNED (Relic Hunters Book 3) by Martin Ferguson – Review by Erin Wolf

War of the Damned (Relic Hunters, #3)War of the Damned by Martin Ferguson
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I give War of the Damned (Relic Hunters) by Martin Ferguson, 5 stars.

I forget just how good and engrossing these books are until I start reading another. This book follows along the same theme of hunting ancient relics but this time it is revolved around World War II. The story of the soldier in the thick of things in the past, plus the present day story of the hunters essentially trying to stop evil and bad people are what really makes this book. You have have two different stories, blended together wonderfully that could easily each stand up as separate books. The time and thought the author put into this really stands out in this exceptional book. Not to mention the research this author has evidently done to make it feel so real. I will admit, I have learned so much more about elements of this war than I ever did in history class.

The story of the past is new with all new people, but the current day story has the hunters you have come to love if you have been following the series. There are also new people we meet along their journey, both with and against the hunters. Oh, and what about those ones that got away in previous books? Well, you just have to read to find out.

While this is a great continuation of the series, it can be read as a standalone and I highly recommend it to those who like adventure with a dash of history mixed in, and some possible supernatural elements thrown in.

Soul’s Day Boxset: Horror and Paranormal Halloween Anthology – Review by Erin Wolf

Soul's Day Boxset: Horror and Paranormal Halloween ThemeSoul’s Day Boxset: Horror and Paranormal Halloween Theme by Erin Lee
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I give Soul’s Day Boxset: Horror and Paranormal Halloween Anthology 5 stars.

This collection of horror and paranormal is perfect for any time of the year in my opinion, but especially fitting around the spooky time of the year. Based around Halloween and/or All Soul’s Day, this set is so eclectic, you will not be disappointed at all. While I had my favorites (a girl who grows up in a funeral parlor, a carnival in purgatory, strange happenings in an eerie motel, a necromancer), all these stories are quite good. They are all written so well and each one is very unique from the next. These authors obviously have such wonderful imaginations and I will definitely be following up on some of the new to me authors.

If you like things that go bump in the night and things this side of normal, I highly recommend this set. However, you may need to leave the lights on and ignore that noise in the other room…
