Murder at Lolly Beach (Eve Sawyer mystery series Book 2) by Jane Suen – Review by Anantha Rusum

Murder at Lolly Beach (Eve Sawyer #2)Murder at Lolly Beach by Jane Suen
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A very fast paced read revolving around a murder mystery, Murder at Lolly Beach is about Eve Sawyer, a journalist student who is invited to a vacation to a beach by her close friend. Eve goes to the beach without any hesitation to have some peace time, but instead finds herself in the middle of a murder when the truck of her chef friend meets with an accident and her friend goes into a coma.
The local reporter, Jake, invites Eve to investigate the case along with him. And then starts the cat and mouse chase to find the murderer, who seems to be always one step ahead of them and keeps wiping off all the clues and the witnesses.

Tension mounts as the plot goes through a lot of twists and turns till the murderer is revealed.
A gripping plot, pleasant characters and an easy read, I liked this book. I am thinking of going back and reading book 1, which I haven’t yet.

Murder At Lolly Beach: An Eve Sawyer Mystery by Jane Suen was a really good read. I wasn’t sure exactly what to expect going into this novel, this is the first I’ve read from this author, and I wasn’t disappointed. It was a really good read, but also just kind of bland to me. It didn’t grab my attention and hold me that I expected it would. I’m not sure why, because I was expecting a little bit more. It felt not rushed exactly, but a little hurried. It was a very quick read and an easy read. Th characters were interesting as well as the plot. It did have a twist to it. I thought it was pretty predictable up till the end. All in all this was a solid read and I would definitely read more from this author in the future.

Murder at Lolly Beach has just as much suspense and mystery as book one. Once again Eve Sawyer cant stay away from a good investigation. But this time she ventures out to the beach to visit her friend when a mystery just lands on her lap. Eve is a stubborn young woman who will always find a way to get involved whether her help is wanted or not. This can be read as a stand alone, but if you enjoy this then you should read book one.

I have to say, I didn’t enjoy this book as much as the first in the series, I did still enjoy the story line though. I loved seeing how ambitious Eve was once again. Even on holiday she was willing to drop everything just to help out with a local crime. I really enjoyed the dark twist at the end, I would never have guessed that happening.

Murder at Lolly Beach (Eve Sawyer mystery series Book 2) by Jane Suen. I LOVED this book. Its the story of Eve Sawyer who is a college student and part time detective. During Summer break Eve accepts her friend Cassie’s invitation to stay at her grandma’s beach house with her and another friend. Eve thinks she is going to enjoy a relaxing time of naps on the beach, fun dinners and nights out on the town but what actually happens is Eve gets drug into a murder investigation. Eve meets Jack Thorne a beach reporter and they begin to investigate a food truck owner’s attack. Will Eve be able to figure it out before someone else gets attacked? Book 1 does not have to be read before this one but it will make the story much more enjoyable due to a few details you learn. I highly recommend this series.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I give Murder at Lolly Beach: An Eve Sawyer Mystery by Jane Suen, 4 stars.

Eve is at it again, although this time she is thrown into it. The second book in the series, Eve is continuing to grow into her work, even having a mentor this time. While she did not choose to solve this mystery, she feels compelled to. It takes us on a journey into what is really happening and just whom is behind it. Like any good mystery, this is not a linear path. There are many forks in the road and the twisting story will have you guessing until the end.

I could not put this book down and highly recommend this book and series to fans of wonderful mystery novels.

Murder Creek (Eve Sawyer #1)Murder Creek by Jane Suen
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Murder Creek is the first book in the Eve Sawyer Muster series by Jane Suen. I love all of her books, as they are short but sweet. Every page counts with this book. So much is happening and it feels like a fully story despite its 159 page length. Eve is a journalism student with somewhat of a 6th sense. She passes over Murder Creek one weekend, and feels very drawn to it. Upon brief research, she discovers there was a massacre there centuries ago, as well as a possible killing/missing person case. She decides to investigate further, traveling to the small town. She quickly noses her way into the small town and its residents. I loved where the story ended up, wrapped up perfectly with a little bow. I don’t want to give anything away, but do yourself a favor and read this book. It will only take a day or two. Now, onto book 2 in the series!

Murder at Lolly Beach is the 2nd book in the Eve Sawyer Mystery series by Jane Suen. It can be read as a stand alone, but I chose to read it after Murder Creek. I did not enjoy this book as much as the first. It didn’t have that action packed mysterious feel that Suen’s other books do. Some of the characters felt somewhat not needed. I felt like the ending was a little rushed. When the main part of the story ended, I didn’t really even understand what happened. I didn’t have that ah-ha moment, and had to read the epilogue to piece it all together. Overall, it was an okay story, in my opinion. There was the mystery, and it was definitely a mystery- I didn’t piece it together and figure things out. I wish we learned a little more about Cassie and Blake, but I suppose it is Eve’s story…

Murder Creek (Eve Sawyer #1)Murder Creek by Jane Suen
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Murder Creek opens with a sketch of Eve Sawyer that introduces us to our protagonist. She is an empath with an acute ability to understand the actions and motivations of others. Being attuned to the people around her enables her to notice details that others might gloss over. She seems to have an innate sense of appreciating others, and that, coupled with her calm and carefree attitude towards life will be one of the key factors that will help her on her journey to solve the disappearance of Lacey Walken.
This book has a similar narrative arc as Murder at Lolly Beach, and I enjoyed it just as much. Eve is a likeable character, one who you find yourself rooting for without even meaning to. She is honest, focused, and tenacious in not giving up even when others wish she would. As the clues to Lacey’s disappearance become revealed, I couldn’t help but try to suss out who was responsible right along with her.
I normally have a preference for longer books, but I found this one to be just the right length for the story. It was a fun way to while away an afternoon at home, cozy in my pajamas, with a fire going for ambience. I definitely recommend this as a lovely way to spend a few hours.
Dig in and enjoy!

This time Eve Sawyer is heading on vacation with her friends from college Cassie and Bob at Cassie’s families beach front cottage and cannot wait to just sit back on the beach and relax, eat some good food and read a book, she needs the break after the craziness that was the last semester, and that is exactly how it starts out, they head to the beach and spend some time there before heading out to see Cassie’s grandma. These plans go awry when the next morning when Cassie takes Eve for surprise crepes for breakfast at a local food truck owned by a guy called Blake and when they get there, they find the place surrounded by yellow tape and there are police officers around it, Cassie’s face turned ashen and she looks scared, so Eve goes to see what is happening. As she speaks to a woman in the crowd, she finds out what happened and where the ambulance took him, the need to solve the crime wells up and she knows then and there that she won’t be able to rest until she finds out the truth.

While the Cassie and Eve have something to eat, Eve asks to go to Blake’s house and when they get there, Cassie talks about Blake, the apartment and the people how live below him, but decide not to talk to anyone as the police are doing the exact same thing, so they agree to go back later on. At the hospital they find out that Blake is in a coma and is not allowed visitors, but they are allowed to stand in the doorway and see for themselves and Cassie is shocked at his condition, it is at that moment that a journalist from the local paper turns up, who introduces himself as Jake and asks the same things as Cassie and Eve and as they leave, he follows them out and as Cassie gets in the car, Eve talks to him about Blake and while swapping information tells him why she is there and finds out that as well as being amazing at cooking crepes, Blake is also a strong environmentalist and was trying to get the local council to ban plastics on the beach, but there were a few people opposing it.

When Cassie asks to tag along with him to the interviews of the people who were against the ban, he asks the paper and they agree that she can be an intern while the investigation is ongoing and this is all the encouragement Cassie needs and so the investigation begins.

Will Eve and Jake be able to find out who was responsible for hurting Blake and why, or will the tangled web be too hard a mystery to solve? This is another great murder mystery which will leave you hanging on until you have read to the end and solved it with them.

Murder Creek (An Eve Sawyer Mystery) by Jane Suen is a great mystery. First off, I thought it was interesting that Eve Sawyer relies one her extra senses, the ones she doesn’t share with others, to help her solve things. Murder Creek got its name because of a gruesome murder of some young men in the 1800’s. Eve feels something strange when she goes over the bridge crossing Murder Creek. This leads her to start researching the disappearance 20 years ago of Lacey Walken, a beautiful teenager who disappeared without a trace. The story had a twist I didn’t expect but throughly enjoyed.

Murder at Lolly Beach is a delicious beach read that will leave you wanting more. This book is purported to be a standalone, despite this being the second book in the series, but I still worried that I would miss out on plot or details without having read the first one. I needn’t have been concerned… I dove right into this murder mystery and its characters. Eve is a great protagonist – smart, empathetic, and relatable. Her journey to uncover the murderer was crafted with fun, intrigue and heart. The descriptions of characters and plot are so lush that I could taste the lemonade and smell the beach air. I started this book and read it straight through to the end in one sitting! If you enjoy whodunnit mysteries and fun, accessible writing, this book might be for you!

BRB, reading the prequel now…

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, I loved the writing style and how the author described her surroundings; I could really picture what she was seeing. The author got the name for this book from a place she’s personally been to, which made this book all the more personal; that added to the fact I could relate to her when she mentioned having a morbid curiosity about crime made me feel all the more closer to the book and the author which I think is so important. This was a really easy read and I’m excited to read more from the author.

Murder at Lolly Beach is the second novel in the Eve Sawyer series by Jane Suen. It picks up shortly after the first story, Murder Creek, during the summer between semesters for Eve.

We get to meet more of Eve’s friends while she heads to the beach with her friend Cassie for some relaxation. Too bad it quickly turns into a trip not even remotely related to relaxation. After Cassie’s friend in town is attacked it all goes downhill from there. Unfortuntely for Eve, her curiousity prevents her from sitting it out and just enjoying the beach.

I enjoyed this novel because you get to know the main character of the series better! Sometimes I wish there was a little more “meat” in each chapter/scene, but this is a quick, interesting read!

This is a nice mystery that moves along at a quick pace. I like that this author uses short chapters to move the story along in a quick fashion. The story is good and even though this is the second in the series it can be read as a stand alone. The characters are choppy and they leave holes. But this seems to be part of the quick pace. Fully fleshed characters are not needed. Just read until the end to get all the answers.

Murder at Lolly Beach by Jane Suen a fantastic five-star read. This is number two in the Eve Sawyer Mystery series and they can be read as stand-alone, as they each tell a different story. Eve is a very good storyteller, she has a passion for words, and that makes her a great journalism student. But this time her passion is in need of a break, in need of some summer rest, but she isn’t going to get it as the mystery is too strong. I love Eve as a character, she has a passion for solving things and words, do not miss this great series as you would be disappointed.

Having read ‘Murder Creek’ the first book in the ‘Eve Sawyer mystery series’ and thoroughly enjoyed it I was looking forward to this second novel and I was not disappointed. I liked being back with our heroine, Eve Sawyer a journalist student as I fell in love with this likeable and relatable character in book one. In this story Eve is on a summer vacation but instead of a fun time she has a mystery to solve. Eve’s best friend Cassie’s boyfriend chef Blake Conway is attacked at his crêpe food truck and then Cassie’s beach house is broken into. Blake had been stirring up the locals with his plastics ban campaign. ‘Beach Beat’ reporter Jake Thorne takes Eve on as an intern and agrees to mentor her as they try to discover who’s behind these crimes. As Eve and Jake investigate they uncover many suspects and learn some dark secrets, and meanwhile a killer is still at large in the small town. I was hooked from page one and was kept guessing until the very end due to all the plot twists and turns in this cozy mystery. This novel is an engaging and enjoyable read and I’m looking forward to more Eve Sawyer mysteries.
