Evil Sushi (Evil Sushi #1)Evil Sushi by C.A. King
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was a really short and fast read that I really enjoyed, it had a very interesting and intriguing twit to it that kept me reading to the end. As humans save animals and the whole climate problem, humans decided it would be a good idea to also go ahead and destroy the oceans thinking it was a smart thing to do. As two fishermen try and catch something to eat, what they got instead wasn’t what they were really looking for. This book took me by surprise by every page and kept me hooked till the end. I really cant wait to read the next book to this installment, but highly recommend that you keep your afternoon free because this read will take that time and you won’t want to do anything but finish it.

Fiction or possible future, to a degree at least. I love C.A. King’s worlds she creates they are always so different than anything else and no two books of hers are the same. Other than their ability to fully submerge you in their world. Told from several perspectives including Rod and Ned.
Treacle is the epitome of small fishing communities. To live there is to answer the call of the sea. But times have changed in just five years, the seas are lifeless. No fish, no plants, no birds. Life tied to the water is gone. The need for food is worse now than ever before and all because people’s race to clean up the planet made them blind to the life that inhabits it. Until it was too late. Rod gets lucky, or maybe it’s unluckier when he renovates Old Bessy, his fishing boat. He finds a fissure at the bottom of the ocean. The secrets are hidden in caves, unknown fish and eggs fill it. Ned dreams of a better life for him and his daughter and all caution go to the wind. One decision changed everything.
What do they really find in those caves? Can they stop it before it’s too late? What will be left of Treacle in the end? Most of this talented authors books I can see myself living in them but honestly this one is just terrifying in all the best ways the suspense the story the growth it will truly pull you under from start to finish. Book two Sashimi, see you there.

I have thoroughly enjoyed every book I’ve read by this author, so it was a no-brainer to pick this book up. They create absolutely marvelous stories within the paranormal genre which this definitely falls under. I was surprised that this was a little over 200 pages because I breezed through it effortlessly. The flow of the story is naturally smooth while being one-of-a-kind as well. There are quite a few twists and turns throughout that I didn’t see coming! I liked the characters well enough but would love more depth to add a bit more oomph to the story. Even with that tiny note, I completely loved this book. If you enjoy sci-fi, horror, dystopian, and/or paranormal books, this should be your next read!

Evil Sushi is Book One in the Evil Sushi Series. It is a paranormal suspense full of mystery, intrigue, action, adventure, greed, secrets, and good versus evil. This is yet another cleverly written book by this author that never ceases to amaze me with her unique and creative stories. When two fishermen make a discovery, it has the possibility of changing things for everyone. The question is whether that change will be for the better or worse. This newest tale takes the world of fishing and turns it upside down with its take on environmental pollution, corporate greed, pandemics, politics, and desperation. With detailed and vivid writing the author fully immerses the reader into the story and the numerous twists and turns will compel you to read until the end. Looking forward to book two!

I loved this! It’s set in the future where all the big corporations’ have taken over the sea so there’s no fish for the little guy to catch and the seas are sparse with fish anyway. People are starving and struggling to make money; Ned & Rod are out fishing one day and they find a ‘new’ species of fish which could save them and the people in their town. It reproduces instantly using salt and can immediately grow bigger ready to reproduce; Too good to be true right? Well it was! Follow them as their lives are turned upside down. Discover what this ‘new’ species of fish really is and how they have to work to overcome this threat to humanity.
I couldn’t put it down! It started great, gripped me from the first page. It’s got lots of twists and turns to it. I thought the story was going one way then it turned in a different direction then again later it did it again! Brilliant! My favorite character was Ned; he’s funny and tetchy and bossy. Loved him. I will definitely be reading the following book.

Evil Sushi is the first book in the extraordinarily unique Evil Sushi series, by C. A. King. A truly original concept, filled with a little bit of everything, perfectly blended into one. I adored the fact that King wasn’t afraid to use the effects of climate change, and write a phenomenal supernatural thriller to call attention to it and give you one of those “what if’s” you’ll be thinking about for years. This book will definitely make you stop for a second and think, before immediately diving right back in, only to repeat the process. As someone who adores sea food itself, I assure you it’s gonna take me a while to be able to eat it again after reading this! Definitely recommend and waiting for book 2!

I’m telling you C.A King has to be one of the most uniquely talented writers i’ve ever seen. I have read some of this author’s other books ( which are crazy awesome, definitely check them out) but i was a little reluctant to read this one, but i just decided to jump in and omg i’m so glad i did idk why i waited so long. I should have known it wasn’t going to be anything less than awesome. It had just the right amount of horror for me. This is a what if story with twists and turns, that really make me think my fear of the ocean is justified lmao. But I totally look forward to reading the next books! I also look forward to reading more stories from C.A King

What an interesting concept for a book series! This was a quick and easy read from author C. A. King. In a sort of dystopian future, Fishermen Rod and Ned find a new species of fish at the bottom of the ocean. Little do they know havoc it will wreck on their small fishing town and the world. I did feel like the character development was lacking, it’s definitely more plot driven. But overall it was a fun and quirky read.

I’ve read some of C.A. King’s other stories and they were good but this one was probably the best one I’ve read so far. It’s a very interesting take on some of the global issues we have actually been facing and a nice spin for a semi-fairy tale. I really enjoyed it. I believe it would be a good book for young teens to read. It has elements that remind me of the writing style the Goosebumps were written in. Can’t wait to read books 2 and 3!

I kept going back and forth on whether or not to read this book. Why did I consider it? I have enjoyed other books by this author. The name and cover intrigued me. I love sushi. Why did I almost pass it up? The synopsis. It honestly didn’t sound like something I would enjoy. I ended up choosing to read it in the end because it sounded weird. I figured at the very least, if I didn’t care for the story, I thought I would be entertained. I also knew that I liked the author’s style of writing.
So did I actually like it? Well, I gave it 5 stars. This book was weird. It was unexpected. It was enjoyable. The story was well written and it was fast paced. The only complaint is that I didn’t really feel like we got to know the characters well enough. There was a bit of a lack of connection to the story because of that. At the end of the day, I would actually be interested in reading the next book in the series. It was an enjoyable read.

This book was definitely unexpected. A unique blend of horror and humor make for a weirdly believable scenario.

This was an overall engaging and easy read. Even with reading the synopsis and reviews, I wasn’t quite expecting what I got with this story. The writing style was surprisingly simple, making the story flow and easy to turn the pages. It was fast paced and unique. The setting was intriguing to me and helped setup the story. We find Ned, Rod, and Sally —our main three characters—in an east coast town during a time where people mostly think only of themselves and where food supply, especially fish, is depleted. In a town where fishing is a primary occupation, many are struggling due to the scarcity of resources. Then Rod and Ned make a discovery that will change their lives—little did they know just how it will change their lives as well as the world around them, placing them in the middle of a nightmare.

While the story was engaging and unique, I personally felt the overall story and characters were lacking some depth. Aside from that, the uniqueness really drew me in and I found the main characters to be likable. Ultimately, this was a fast read that I’d recommend!

I know we’ve all heard “don’t judge a book by it’s cover” but let’s be honest, the cover is the first thing that draws you in; and I feel that this one is lacking and might have pushed some people away.

I wasn’t expecting the book to be what it was, honestly, which I enjoyed. I know the blurb says not zombies, but I was expecting something similar at least. I think it’s cool and different how the author twisted this “breakout.” I liked the characters, I think Sally could use some work, I hope she has had some character growth in book two. I found Ned to be hilarious, he’s just your average, friendly, hillbilly but I like that he’s one of the main characters and that he’s going to be helping to end this thing. There’s humor, non-trusting government, a mysterious breakout, and an ending that leaves you wanting to read book two. This is such an entertaining and quick read that I believe sci-fi, dystopian, and maybe a little fantasy (magical realism) readers will enjoy.

I picked up this book as C.A. King has become an auto read author for me after reading several of their other works. The cover was also eye-catching and as an individual allergic to the majority of Sushi a way to interact with it without dying. That said I did not die from reading Evil Sushi but did enjoy this book. There was a lack of character connection and depth. The premise of the story was different from other books I have read.

Two fishermen in a world running low on resources find the catch of a lifetime! If only they knew the truth to these fish from down below. What waits in the dark depths of the ocean? Pick up the book for a most unique reading experience and find out!

I picked this book to read because of the cover. It seemed to intrigue me and it seemed so different from anything I have read recently, so I figured why not. To say that I was not expecting anything that happened in this book to happen, is saying the least. I wasn’t sure what to expect with the theme of this book. I was thinking maybe post apocalyptic or something along those lines. It is not. It is actually written very currently. I did enjoy that part of the book. Let me rephrase that, I did enjoy this book. I only gave it 4 stars because I felt a lack of connection with the characters. The characters are developed but there is a miss-connect between the story and the reader. Other than that, this book had a current and new look into the paranormal. It made me want to keep turning the pages and continuing to see what was going to happen next. I was very pleasantly surprised by what was on the pages. It is a fresh concept into a genre that I was not expecting. I will continue to read the following books in this series because maybe the characters will reach out to me in the following books. I am just excited to see what comes next.

I liked this book way better than I thought I would. The beginning was a tad slow. But it definitely set up the background information for what turned out to be quite a read. I didn’t realize I had read the entire book until it said “The End”. The characters were well developed. The author did a great job reinforcing the small town feel. Evil sushi gives me syfy television vibe. Like on the level of sharknado. Entertaining but really out there. I also was concerned how zombie sushi would come in to play but the creativeness of the “zombies” surpasses what I imagined. I cannot wait to read book 2. Hopefully we get a few more answers. Book 1 left me needing more. Do your self a favor and read this book!

I started the books out of order so I read book 2 first and then moved to book 1, and that is where I gained a great deal of insight.. This is story that is relatable and has a pandemic type feel. There is angst, drama, deception, mystery, deceit, intrigue, and a twist at every turn. It starts with 2 fisherman who unleash a worldly nightmare and the story begins from there. It will truly keep you on your toes and have you guessing.

With a name like Evil Sushi, I wasn’t sure exactly what I was getting myself into when I started reading this book, but I was wonderfully surprised to discover this thrilling tale was just what the title suggested: something terrifying yet playful. When reading this book, I discovered that this book touches on a lot of different things that I was thinking about over the last few years. I’m sure we’ve all thought about the effect our choice in diet has on the environment, even in passing, and that’s why this tale gave me chills. The classic horror nowadays centers around the impossible: zombies. But what if that terror came from the sea? What if our future looked just a little more like the apocalypse with sea life? Just a little on the joking side, but wonderfully serious at the same time, this book will have you gripping the edge of your seat and expectantly waiting for the next in the series!

I was not expecting this book to ring so true! The tale of what happens when human greed, misinformation, and ignorance all compile together to bring humanity to the brink of starvation and poverty! Or, is it a story of what our realities will become soon if we don’t focus on the larger picture? DUN DUN DUNNNN. In all seriousness, it is a creative take on a far fetched future based on realistic issues. Brought on by a theory that certain foods were to blame for causing damage to the globe, the over indulgency of another food has turned the world desolate. As it goes, large corporations took a once lucrative past time and monopolized it. Small time farmers make a discovery that has the potential to change this, or will it? Evil Sushi keeps you guessing. An enjoyable read that really makes you reflect on the state of our current world. It is at once entertaining, and a little sad. I am definitely intrigued to see where the story goes next.

Within the last five years, global warming and the decline of the environment have made people rethink the way they eat. Fish is the new hot commodity and Treacle is a perfect town to be a fisherman, until over-fishing and big corporations leave little to nothing left. Rod, a local fisherman with a knack for tinkering enlists the help of his friend Ned to go test out his newest gadgets. What they find in the murky depths shocks them, but what they think could be the end of world hunger might just be the start of a new source of food on the menu, us…..
This book was really fun to read with such a unique concept. The characters were really engaging and relatable and it made me want to find out what happens to them. What stuck with me the most is the things we do to our environment and what would happen when we take more than the earth can give back. I recommend this book to anyone looking for something fresh and exciting that will give you an adrenaline rush!
