Evil Sushi (Evil Sushi Series Book 1) by C.A. King – Review by Shadel Ayerbe

Evil Sushi (Evil Sushi #1)Evil Sushi by C.A. King
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Evil Sushi by C.A. King is a story of paranormal suspense. It is an amazing thriller that I loved to read. I loved the original story that this came to be.

They aren’t zombies, by the way. They aren’t the undead in any way. They’re not like the rest. Just when you felt it was safe to go back for seconds, something unexpected happens. Evil Sushi flips the script, reintroducing beef to the menu. Two down-on-their-luck East Coast fishermen make a once-in-a-lifetime discovery that could end world hunger for good. They find themselves hurriedly embarking on a mission to change the lives of people all over the world. There’s no denying that their discovery has an impact, but not in the way they had hoped. Is Evil Sushi a fictional book, the ravings of a maniac, or a prophecy that’s the true question?

I loved every page of it and was definitely not ready for the book to end. It brought me into their world and I enjoyed every second of it. I can’t wait to read book number two.

Evil Sushi was a chilling read that really had me on the edge of my seat the whole way through. I don’t usually go for this type of book but I have read work by this author previously and the story was so well written, that although it wasn’t my usual, I still really enjoyed it and would definitely recommend it.
The characters were really interesting to read about, the character development was excellent which is a strong point for this author in my opinion. I am definitely looking forward to the next book in the series!

I thought this book was fun to read, and definitely got me out of my normal comfort zone when it comes to reading. The story is nothing that I have ever read before. Nothing like a combination of Evil Fish and Zombies :). Story had action, intrigue, mystery and a bit of horror all wrapped into one. I loved the concept and story and I cannot wait to read book #2!

I love me some C. A. King! This is a great paranormal horror read. I really like how parts of this story could come to be reality. This book will have you turning pages into the night and rooting for the little guy. With Rod’s good heart and Ned’s sarcasm what could possibly go wrong? Evil Sushi has a little of everything thrown in. I cannot wait to read book two!!!

Evil Sushi (Evil Sushi #1) by C.A. King

This isn’t the first book I’ve read by King. She knows how to bring readers back to her books. I can’t wait for the next book in the series.

Rod is a fisherman and when he and a friend hit gold things start looking up. Sort of. He can see him falling for his friend’s daughter, but he doesn’t have anything to offer. The quote I chose for Rod is: “You’re in early, Ned. Did you have any luck out there?”

Sally has been taking care of her father since her mother passed away. She has her eye on Rod, but doesn’t think he feels the same. When her father and Rod bring in something that changes everything. The quote I chose for Sally is: “You’re the exception, I tell you. You want some water? Or I can make some lemonade, if you’d like.”

Highly recommended for Paranormal Horror lovers.

C. A. King’s Evil Sushi does what it says on the tin. There’s sushi. It’s evil. I would probably not recommend eating sushi while you read this book. Unless it’s vegetarian sushi – you’re probably safe there.
It’s 2021, so if you’re avoiding pandemic-related horror this is not the story for you. But if you enjoy speculating about how much worse things could’ve been, knowing easily something dangerous could spread and how hard it would be for authorities to stop it in its tracks, this makes for an entertaining read.
There are some great characters, as I’ve come to expect from King’s books. The story centres around two fishermen – Rod and Ned. Both very down-to-earth, practical men, they are both motivated by their love for Ned’s daughter Sally, who Ned hopes his younger friend will one day pluck up the courage to confess his feelings to. They struggle to make a living in a poorly regulated world where big corporations can easily take what they want, leaving little for anyone else.
This is a really entertaining book which left me wanting more (and, fortunately, the sequel is already out!). It gets five stars from me! I would recommend it to fans of quirky horror – if the evil bunny rabbit in Holy Grail is your idea of peak humour you’ll love this!

Evil Sushi (Evil Sushi Series Book 1) by C.A. King is a great read. I am all for taking steps to ensure our planet is around for generations to come, and this book takes us on quite the extreme adventure in doing so. In a rural fishing town, two fishermen find a shocking, new species of marine creature and the story hits the ground running! This story is a page-turner and really makes you stop and think about what could happen if we do not start taking care of our environment. C.A. King is a riveting author, and I recommend anyone who lives on the planet Earth to pick up this book. The best part is that it’s only the first book in the series, so there is more to come! You will not be disappointed! 5 stars!

Evil Sushi is the first book in the Evil Sushi Series by C.A. King . This is a horror/fantasy that is fast paced and packed with, suspense and mystery and so much more. I was on the edge of my seat throughout this story trying to figure out what was going to happen next. This is a story about the effects of climate change. Find out what happens when Meat consumption has been banned except for fish and two fishermen come across a different species of fish. Will this discovery change things for all? I can’t wait to read more from this Author. I highly recommend reading this book.

I didn’t think I would like this book at all. Turns out that I loved it! It was a thriller that had me hooked from the appetizer to the dessert. I’ve never read a book by this author previously, but the cover caught my attention because it reminded me of a geisha mask which I love. Reading the back of the book I decided to give it a try. And I’m thoroughly glad that I did. I will say I am a huge horror fan, and this is full of that. In fact, it’s got a bit of everything in it and will leave you scratching your head wondering what is going to happen next. I found it hard to put down and finished it in a day. I think that the author put a lot of time into the details and description, so you feel like you are viewing it in person. At least I did. I will certainly be looking for more works from this writer.

Evil Sushi (Evil Sushi #1)Evil Sushi by C.A. King
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Two fishermen are down on their luck, as are most of the others with the same livelihood all over the world since people started to blame the meat industry for global warming and which led to a huge increase in demand for fish and the opening of the international fishing routes, since then, the seas have been overfished and not replenished, even the vegetation on the sea bed is dead and people are fighting over any meat they can get a hold of. Rod and Ned live in the town of Treacle, it is a typical small community which centres around the fishing industry and traditions passed down through the generations which has kept it alive, albeit now the boats are all in need of repair but are having to wait until finances allow.

One day, Rod and Ned decide to go out and see if there is anything left after the big corporation’s boats scoured the area and used charges to get as much out of the sea as physically possible, but when they go out and use one of Rod’s homemade gadgets to see the state of play under the water, they find something unexpected, something which could well change their fortunes, so they decide to take a sample back with them to take a closer look. What they discover when they get home is nothing short of breathtaking and when someone accidentally tries to remedy a mistake, the consequences are miraculous, while Rod cautiously decides to do some research, Ned tries something a bit more drastic and when he says that they have tried it and nothing bad has come of it, they decide to try and sell it.

Early the next morning, they go to market to sell their find, but anger the locals when they accidentally start an auction and when Ned hears the amount of money offered by a businessman who doesn’t belong, he takes it upon himself to accept before Rod can do anything about it. This business man then asks for a repeat order a few days later and thinking that this is the end of it and that their luck maybe turning round, they try and pack up while avoiding the rest of the shoppers, it is only when a few days later and the mysterious businessman hires someone to take the rest of the stock by force and pay them for the privilege of staying silent, that they begin to think that they made a mistake.

Rod and Ned try to forget about the whole thing and get on with their lives until strange things start happening in Treacle and that feeling of unease is reinforced by hearing news reports of other strange events. Will Rod and Ned come clean about what they found and try to defend the reasoning behind it, or will the whole thing backfire and end up affecting the world in the opposite way they hoped? This is a horror story which makes you think about whether something similar could actually come to pass while keeping you hooked until the end.

I quite liked this book! While it began with a slow burn, I definitely enjoyed the story, especially once it started picking up steam. It also questions some aspects of environmental policy in the beginning, as well as addresses the cold, hard truth that we have not fixed things just yet. Even though this is a work of fiction, it is nice to see a wake-up call thrown in. This is the first book in the Evil Sushi series. This is a Paranormal Horror novel and is 219 pages. This story follows two east coast fisherman who are just trying to survive in their small town. This story is set not too much farther in the future and meat has been banned for consumption, so that only leaves fish. This book kind of shows what will happen with pollution and climate change. With corporate fishing taking hold, it is becoming harder and harder to fish. While out on a fishing expedition, they find something. It is either going to be good or go very wrong. This was a such a great read!

I was diagnosed with clinical depression after the loss of my mother, father and husband within three years of each other; all to cancer. 24/7 in-home care, coupled with the loss I felt, left its mark on my psyche.

Depression takes up a lot of my life. Reading and writing are the only things I have found that help (in connection with regular medication), even if only for a short time. To escape to a different world can make a big difference in my mood in real time.

To put things in perspective, when I was at my lowest point, I couldn’t open mail, talk on the phone, or even drive to the store. Walls of sadness surrounded me. As they closed in, tears would fall. There didn’t need to be a reason or trigger.

People ask me why I started writing. My answer is simple: I wanted to create a world into which other people with similar problems could escape. I wanted to share the one place that had helped me for many years.

I have always said that as long as one person finds a little bit of happiness out of my books, I am, in my opinion, an accomplished author. The same is true for every writer out there. Please don’t ever let anyone tell you different.

I read books as well as write them and have visited the worlds many different authors have created. Those worlds not only make me feel better, but give me the strength to face real life again. I want to thank everyone who writes—I want them to know they are making a difference.

Fast forward to today…

Evil Sushi by C. A. King. To say this book was way outside outside my comfort zone would be an understatement but I’m so glad I opened my mind to give it a try. This author just knows how to create an interesting story world that keeps readers coming back for more. The storyline is just well thought out and paced nicely with characters you want more of. It’s a mind bending storyline and definitely had me saying “what the heck” more than once in a good way. I like a story that keeps me on my toes and this author sure knows how to do that. If you’re looking for something a bit different and unique I highly recommend this story. I’m giving this story a four star review! Can’t wait to see where the author takes readers next.

Evil Sushi by C.A. King was an interesting read. I would give this book a four out of five stars. I can’t put into words how captivated I was with the story. I give Evil Sushi by C.A. King, 4 stars.

There was a time when everyone came together and you helped your fellow neighbor. That time has long passed and the world will never be the same. Now it’s every man for themselves. For the fishermen of a small East Coast community, life is really bad. Fish is the new hot commodity and the seas have been overfished. Not to mention the big companies have come in with their huge boats to take what little is left. That is, until two fisherman find what they believe to be the answer to everyone’s prayers. But remember the saying, if it’s too good to be true? Well, it looks to be the case here. The creatures just may be striking back…

The hardest thing is describing this book. In the beginning of the book, it almost sounds like it’s teaching us to change our ways and show us what can happen if we don’t. But the more you read, the more it turns into a comedy horror. Or does it? Whatever category you decide to put this in, one thing is for sure — I have definitely never read anything close to this before. It draws you in, even though you’re scratching your head in wonder. The writing is that good and the story that intriguing, you just can’t put the book down. The characters are something else too. But this book is definitely worth the time.

If you want something unlike anything you have ever read before, this book is for you.

I stepped out of my comfort genre for this book. I was quite taken with this book. This is a unique story line. I really like what the author has done with this story line. The characters are quite realistic even given the paranormal spin to the book. I found myself at the edge of my seat awaiting to see what would happen next.

I like how the author created the setting. I also like the chemistry between Rod and Sally. I could really relate to the work situation for the fishermen. I was really on edge as the book went on and things took a negative turn for Rod’s discovery. I really cannot wait to read more from this author.

Evil Sushi by C.A. King a five-star read that you will want to chow down on. This is the first in a new series and shows us again what a talented but scary mind C.A. King must have, the imagination of this author is second to none. This supernatural thriller has a bit of everything in it, it’s a rea thought provoking and startling story, it will make you stop and think all the while you are swept up and unable to stop reading. There were so many levels and depths to this story, so many layers like a fancy trifle some are sweet, but they may not all be. Sink your teeth into this story and if you haven’t read this author before, find yourself a new favourite author along the way.

I have seriously fallen in love with the writings of CA King this last year. So much so, that I have started to share some of her work with my tween daughter so that I have someone to discuss these awesome books and the worlds that are brought to life within them. Evil Sushi is one of those books that makes a dystopian world terrifying. I loved this book! As per King’s typical, she has created a world where the environment begins to fight back. I love that just as you think to know what to expect things become very multidimensional and adds twists and turns that one could never have predicted.

I won’t give you much more details other than what is already divulged in the blurb and my own thoughts on the book because I just couldn’t bear to ruin this story. I will say that this book will lead us directly to a second book, Sashimi! I will be anxiously awaiting it to see what will come next. I am sure that I will love it too! In the meantime go grab Evil Sushi and dig in today! Its one you don’t want to miss!

Evil Sushi is the first book in the Evil Sushi series. The ending leaves it open for the next book.

I loved the creativity of this story. This book encompasses several genres which makes for an entertaining read. I wasn’t sure what to expect because the blurb was a bit vague, but the intrigue of it all kept me reading. I finished the book in just a few hours because I couldn’t put it down.

I will say that I had a challenge liking the Sally character. I’m not sure what it was about her that gave me difficulty, but it didn’t affect the overall story enough for me to stop reading.

I’m definitely looking forward to the second book!!!!

If you love C. A. King books, you do not want to miss Evil Sushi. One thing I love about C. A. King is the fact that she grabs my attention at the very beginning of the story and she holds it until the very end. Ms. King’s characters are engaging and realistic like they are apart of my circle of friends, Her attention to detail is amazing. I feel like I am right there with the characters throughout the book. Evil Sushi is no exception. As the author left this at the end of her synopsis, “Is Evil Sushi fiction, the ramblings of a lunatic, or a prophecy as to what may come to pass? People get more ecofriendly but caring about methane from cows so fish becomes more popular. But because the population has exploded, the seas are becoming ever more barren. Evil Sushi (Evil Sushi Series Book 1) by C.A. King was a thrilling read that had me hooked.

Not my first read by this author, so I was excited to see this little wonder appear. The cover captured my attention (as does all the covers for this author) and once I read the synopsis, I was hooked, line and sinker.

As I am a fan of horror, and fantasy, this was a pleasant mix that really kept me reading. The detail was to shelf as per-normal with this author, and the story telling alluring. This book takes you into a darkness that has a bit of realism to it, making this read all the more heart pounding. The tone and flow matched and helped with keeping you not only engaged but on the edge of your seat.

Original and fresh this book is a must read, so please take my super high recommendation and my stamp of approval, that you will not beadle to put this book down, or look at certain things we eat, the same way again.

Happy Reading

This is my first book by C.A. King and while fantasy is not my go to genre, this was a pretty good story. It does not have a happy ending but instead it ends making you want to know what is going to happen. I look forward to book 2 and checking out other stories by this author.

The plot of this story is different and interesting. Losing all the fish in the ocean is believable, sad but still believable…the part of Evil Sushi, however not so much. The characters seem to be down on their luck thanks to big companies and government taking over everything. I look forward to seeing if the tables turn in the next book.

I have read a few novels by this author and once again she did not disappoint me. For me, Evil Sushi was almost a commentary on what life on earth could be like if we continue on our current path, minus the murderous sea monster of course. Evil Sushi has everything every good fantasy novel needs. It has suspense, a villain, a hero, and love. I cannot wait for the next installment of this series.
