What a cute little story about a piggy named Half-pint Porky. Patience is something parents and children must learn and sometimes that’s hard to do. My almost five year old loves all things Pirates so this was right up his alley. We read this story four or five times back to back he loved it that much. Half-pint Porky was so excited to start pirate school that when the day finally arrived she was nervous and wasn’t quite sure until a surprise treasure drifts in from the high seas. The little scallywag is reminded that good things come to those who wait. We truly enjoyed reading this book and the illustrations are very entertaining and colorful. We loved the adventure and look forward to reading more from this Author. We highly recommend reading this book and its suitable for children of all ages .
Writer, Mary Blackwehl, and Illustrator, Gabby Correla, have created an enchanting, delightful pirate story in their book, Arrrgh! Me Hate To Wait, which follows the tale of Half-Pint Porky as they take their first steps towards attending big kid school. It is the ideal book for helping children comprehend the progression from being a little kid to a big kid. My 4-year-old grandson simply loves it! The illustrations are vibrant and wonderfully captivating, enhancing the narrative even further.

Loretta loves exploring her world. When she was helping to collect firewood, she discovered a mysterious rolled-up leaf. When her mother explained it was a nest for leafcutter bees, Loretta wanted to learn more! As the seasons change, Loretta follows the progress of the bees to learn all she can.
This book is adventurous and informational. It is a good lesson on the life cycle of leafcutter bees and what they do for our environment. My kids were engaged in the story the entire time. The illustrations are bright and fun. There is even a cute activity included at the end! If you have an insect-loving kid, this story is for you.

What a cute little story for young readers. A lost bonnet turns into a learning experience for little Loretta. I read this book aloud to my five year old niece who is not a fan of bees. The book has her wanting to lose one of her hats outside for the bees to make a nest in too. We both enjoyed the story! The little helpful bee nest making instructions at the end was a bonus. This spring we will be making one to see if we can attract some bees to our yard for our flowers.

Read this book with my 6 year old. We loved it. We had recently learned about honey bees, so it was nice to learn about another type of bee! I like how she includes learning in books but makes it fun! Lois Wickstrom is a children’s book author I will continue to come back to over and over. Very cute story.

Amaeigha and the Big Idea by Janice Pratt is such a fun and inspirational book for children. Amaleigha is a 5-year-old girl that loves nature and loves to explore. She enlists the help of friends and family to share the things she loves with the rest of the world. This is such a sweet book with lessons for young and old. It shows how you can enjoy the things you love even if others don’t agree. I love that in a social media-filled world, this book shows how children can enjoy the great outdoors. Such a wonderful story.

Half-pint Porky is very excited about the opportunity to go to pirate school like her older siblings. She’s got a bit of a wait though. Half-pint Porky does NOT like to wait! When she’s finally able to go to pirate school, she can’t wait for it to end.
This is a super cute children’s book! Kids will love the pirate language as well as the vivid imagery in the pictures presented. There are a few fun alliterations to enjoy too! I would recommend this book for children of all ages, including us more seasoned! My favorite aspect of this book is the focus on patience and how being patient can bring a bigger reward in the end.

This is a fun picture book that children between the ages of 4-to-8 will enjoy. The illustrations are bright and colourful and full of many things to discover that will delight little eyes. What child doesn’t dream of becoming a pirate and finding treasures and sailing the seven seas?
I read this to my Grandbabies as they liked it so much. It has now become one of their favourite bedtime stories.
Journey along with Half-Pint Porky as she dreams of becoming a pirate and all that goes along with it. Will she do what she has longed for, or will she give up her dreams?

This is an enchanting children’s book full of colorful illustrations that will draw the reader’s eyes. The unique pirate language and imaginative character names are just another bonus. I think kids and adults will both enjoy reading.
Half Pint Porky is anxious and doesn’t want to wait to go to the big pirate school like her siblings. When the time finally comes for her to go to big pirate school, she gets nervous and doesn’t want to go. Will she finally make it to her new “big” school? Will the wait have been worth it?
This is a really cute story that not only teaches about patience but about being nervous going to a new school and encountering new situations. I think kids will love this book and not even realize they are learning while enjoying the fun pirate talk and story. I definitely recommend this book to readers of all ages!

This was a really cute book! Not was only was it cute it was also informative about bees. This book is definitely for older children in my opinion, because younger children aren’t going to understand some of the science and logistics of this story. There are also some really neat and interesting crafts and projects at the end of this book that kids would enjoy!

Arrrgh! Me HATE to Wait! by Mary Evanson Bleckwehl is a fun and engaging illustrated children’s storybook. It has a fun adventure to follow while teaching children all about patience. The illustrations are fabulous, bold, and bright- bringing the whole story to life. The characters are well-developed, quirky, and likeable…. Making for quite a fun time.
Half-Pint Porky has been excitedly awaiting being able to attend pirate school. But when the big day finally arrives her nerves get the better of her. She is having second thoughts and things get quite interesting.
My grandson loved reading this book with me, and especially loved all the pirate jargon and references. Can’t wait to read more from Ms. Evanson Bleckwehl.

This is a cute story with a nice message. It give some good information about the leaf cutter bees for an adult and younger child. The illustrations are nice but I wish they were a little clearer since I knew nothing about these bees and wanted closer looks. In the back it gives information about making a home for these bees with every day products. This is a good story as well as informative.

Wonderful and lovable children’s story for all ages including adults that are child at heart. This book was fantastic with wonderful engaging illustrations and the characters names are just cute!
We follow along with Half Pint Porky as they are ready for “big pig” pirate school and not be in her little pig school anymore thinking they are missing out and impatiently waiting the the day…..and when the big day comes…..what does Half Pint Porky do when the big day arrives?
This is a book full of fun and adventure and I loved each page. I highly recommend this book …. what a wonderful story!

The artwork in this book is absolutely beautiful. This book is so fun to read to kids, because as an adult the names the author has given these pigs had me giggling. I love that Half-Pint Porky is all geared up to go to pirate school and whines about how she hates waiting, yet when it is her time to go she would rather stay home because she scared. She soon realizes that school isn’t so bad with friends around. Great children’s book!

A story about patience for children. What a great story line. My grandchildren loved reading Half-Pint Porky’s story. She was so ready to start school, but when the big day came. Everything changed even though she was excited, she now has reservations about actually going. I love all of the pirate jargon, so fun for the kids, makes for a grand story to read as well. The author opened up the word Patiences. A word for all children to learn and accept. The story is quick and easy to follow. The illustrations were fun and opened the door for making eye patches. I love this story and look forward to reading more from this author.

A winning story in this house! The story is bright, colorful. We were all laughing. A story of not wanting to rush but then being scared of new things. I loved the characters names. The story kept my grandchildren engaged. There was lots of interaction by all of them. This story is a must for your book corner. I may be buying one for all my grandchildren.

Loretta looses her bonnet while trying to chop wood for the fireplace. When putting the logs on her mother finds a box cutter bee nest. Her mother tells Loretta to go put the nest outside for the garden for spring time, and Loretta sees her bonnet up in the tree. Growing up in California, it feels like earthquake preparedness should be the “norm.” However, each and every time I experience a quake, I am always shocked. Always preparing for the “big one.” So I was really happy to find this book to help me explain all of this with my own kids. I know they teach some things in class, however, having two small kids with anxiety meant I would have to address it in a different way. Things are Shaking was the answer to this very problem! I highly recommend reading it to your kids to talk about scary things such as earthquakes.

I love these books by this author. Especially when she gives you a treat with an activity you can do with your kids after reading the book. In this story we learn about bees and their importance. The author makes it clear that we don’t fear bees but we do need them. In the back of this book is detailed instructions on how to make a bee home for your yard with your littles. This is definitely worth the purchase. Your kids will love it.

Bees In Loretta’s Bonnet is the second book in the Loretta’s Insects series by Lois Wickstrom. It is an interesting, educational, and entertaining illustrated children’s storybook, with an engaging story that even has a project step-by-step guide to building a bee nest, to attract wild bees to your garden, at the end. This is a fun story, and we get to learn all about wild bees along the way.
The story is cute, while inspiring children to learn while they read. I enjoyed reading the story with my grandson, but the illustrations weren’t up to the standard of most of her other books that we’ve read, so they didn’t hold his attention like others have. Still, an interesting read, though.

Another enjoyable story by this author. This author writes really fun stories for children. The stories are easy to read and I really think all children will enjoy them. This particular story was really interesting. It explored a child’s imagination which is always a good thing. This author’s stories allow children to explore their creativity and imagination.

Loretta is out getting firewood when she discovers a mysterious tube. After her mom explains that the tube is actually a leafcutter bee nest, she places it in the woodpile. Loretta waits and watches as the season changes to see if the bees will hatch.
I really enjoy Loretta’s stories. These are educational and have an activity in the back of the book. Great for children who like science.

There is always excitement on the nights when we have a Lois Wickstrom book to read in our house. And I think this one has to be one of our favourites. It had a slightly slower start than some of her others and normally that would cause my two children to lose interest straight away. However, the fact that they not only kept reading but were actively engaged is testament to how much they love this author!
The story was fantastic, as always. It was engaging, lively and fun. We all seemed to connect with it and we have already read this book multiple times. My daughter is looking forward to when we have time to follow the craft instructions provided at the end. Yet another hit but a brilliant author. I can’t wait to see what is next.
