I enjoyed this book. This is a new author for me and I can’t wait to see what is next for her. This is a great collection of stories that are about family and going back in generations with some of them. I enjoyed how this author wrote with a lot of heart and you can feel that with each story. They are stories of an African American family and will show you that racism is real and it happens all over the world and not just in your area. The characters will pull at your heart strings and felt as if you were right there with them. They are connectable and strong to go through what some of them have. I really enjoyed this book and how it brought the issue of racism to life. I highly recommend this book.

Jane Suen is not a new author to me. When I see her books, I will definitely pick them up because I know I will like them. This book is full of 3 short stories and 1 bonus story. My favorite one is Grits Girl. It is a love story that starts over grits. It is a touching story that made me smile. I shared this story with my husband because we met over a similar experience. The other stories are just one or two pages and are quick reads. The Accident brought tears to my eyes, while The End of Summer made me realize that we should have adventures. I highly recommend this book.

This book was amazing. I was truly educated more after finishing it. While I was entertained at the same time. I enjoyed all the different perspectives of the characters. I feel like a better person. I will use what I have read in this book in some of my everyday life. I am definitely going to read more from this amazing author.

Beginnings and Endings is a collection of four short stories. Each one is unique, and really hits home as far as lessons that can be learned from them. The stories touch on how a single moment can change our entire lives. I enjoyed the stories and the length of each was appropriate. I would highly recommend this book to everyone. The last story is so so sweet!

Beginnings and Endings: A Selection of Short Stories by Jane Suen is a collection of short stories that are heart warming and emotional. I was surprised by the level of detail the author had managed to fit in to such short books. Nothing felt rush or forced, they all just flowed so easily. I love how versatile this author is. All of her books are so different from each other but each are just as well written and interesting. I really enjoy the fact that I never know quite what I am going to get when I start then next one. This is a great book and one I would certainly recommend.

Manifested Dreams by Dr. Yvonne Johnson surprised me , in a great way. I think I was expecting something with a bit more of a documentary/journaling style to it- which may have been boring…. But instead I was immediately pulled into an intriguing story that held my attention right through till the end. It is a very short story- which made for a quick and easy read, but don’t be fooled, this story may be short on pages, but it packs quite a lot into a small space. It is well-woven, with detailed descriptions, filled with thought-provoking elements, plenty of emotion, and interesting characters. The story is complex, with several threads woven through it. Through the characters we see life through their eyes- moving from past to present, from the 1860’s to 1919, and then we work our way through to the 1990’s and then to 2008. The story examines racism, slavery, segregation, family, and the lives of African-Americans through history. We get an honest history lesson delivered in a very original, interesting, and thought-provoking way. Definitely worth reading!

Manifested Dreams is a wonderfully told yet heart-wrenching story of a family’s journey from slavery to freedom and beyond. The letters from the family members describe their personal experiences with slavery, post-Civil War living, the Harlem Renaissance, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and President Barack Obama becoming the first African-American president. Within these positive and uplifting stories are sad and calamitous stories of the Memphis Massacre, the Read Summer of 1919, and the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
As a white woman born in the South, I have always felt the aspects of racism in my life. As an open-hearted person, I have believed since I was six years old that every person no matter skin color is equal. Our biology is the same. Only the color of our skin and our experiences separate us. It is truly powerful to hear the stories in these letters which validate that racism has always been a part of our country’s heritage. I appreciate Dr. Yvonne Johnson for sharing her family’s stories. I hope that she continues to share their history so that we all can better understand our country’s heritage.

Beginnings and Endings: A Selection of Short Stories by Jane Suen. I loved this series of short stories. It is about how changes can be a good thing which I need to hear! This book kept me turning pages and turning pages until I was finished. My favorite story was Grit’s Girl. It is about a girls love for grits and how she met the man of her dreams. If you need a light read that will keep you interested for a short while, get this book. You won’t be disappointed. There are 3 stories and 1 bonus story and they were all very good. The bonus story Pick Me is a short read that teaches us that even stuffed animals have feelings! Just an all around feel good, upbeat read!

I loved this book that was written, it was more than just heart felt, its a book of truth, and honesty, and all the emotions and feelings that go along with it. I felt so much from reading this, I felt sadness, hope, the need to help, the want to make the world to change into something more than what it is, we can all hope and dream for a change, for improvement, or the whole idea to make the world a better place, but how is that ever going to happen if we keep the world going in the same repeating matter, we need all to stop and think and take actions now….
Again, I loved reading this, it was amazing and it really can open ones eye to a glimpse to what others have to live and still live to this day! People should not be provoked, out casted, or be treated different just because say if their skin color is not the same as the person whose is provoking. Its more than wrong its down putting, and needless to say unfair is a simple word to say that this needs to stop happening.
the stories of the characters in the family, what they went thru, what they had better hopes for, for what they wanted, they had to fight and be strong just to live every day. I thank this author for amazing collection of stories, I will defiantly be reading this again and again and defiantly going to have my husband and recommend to others.
The book is full of feelings and its all truth. I honestly wanted more when it came to an end. I longed for more. It truly touched me in a positive and a emotional way. I thank this amazing author for writing this, as I know this is not an easy thing to talk about and to put down on paper.
I will defiantly be reading more from this author. I highly suggest you grab a copy and read it, open your mind and heart, its something we should all read, it certainly leaves you to think when you finish it

This a a nice collection of short stories. There is a little glimpse into the windows of these lives. The author does a good job even hitting on the *feelings from these characters. It ranges from surprise, confusion, sadness and strength. While it only took a few minutes to read it is well written and enjoyable.

She currently serves as a Special Education Advisor with Shelby County Schools in the Division of Exceptional Children where she supervises special education classes at several schools. Yvonne is the co-author of The Ride of Pride, a children’s book that tells the story of African American inventors and how we use their inventions daily.
Dr. Yvonne Johnson is very active in the Memphis Community. She is a charter member of the Memphis Metro Clark Atlanta Alumni Association where she currently serves as the Vice President. She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated where she previously served on the Leadership committee, was the Health Initiative chairperson, and Pan Hellenic Council representative. She was a former Historian for the Pan Hellenic Council. She is also a member of the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Incorporated. Recognized as Alumni of the day from Clark Atlanta University, Alumni Association. She is a Leadership Memphis graduate. Yvonne serves as a volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House, which provides services and housing for parents/family members of children with childhood cancer while they receive treatment at St. Jude Hospital. She volunteers with the Union Mission, a local homeless shelter. She is a former member of the Feed the Need ministry, a program that feeds homeless individuals throughout the Memphis area.

Beginnings and Endings: A Selection of Short Stories by Jane Suen was an interesting read. Each short story is very quick, I read this whole book in about 20 minutes. I would have to say, Grits Girl and The End Of Summer were my two favorites. The Accident just left me wanting more. I didn’t particularly like how the story ended on that one. The End Of Summer would be great to have a sequel. I would love to find out what Mikey’s response is at the end. All in all this was a very quick, entertaining read, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading this collection of short stories.

A very enjoyable and engaging book of original short stories based on the theme that “life never turns out like you expected”. Each story is a very quick read but is also a complete story and Suen makes the reader feel fully immersed in each storyline. For such short stories the characters are really bought to life by the wonderful writing and I felt as though I had been on an emotional rollercoaster by the end of the book. The first story ‘Grits Girl’ looks at how love blossomed over breakfast leading to a surprise question during a couples weekly ritual. ‘The Accident’ follows a couple as their life is changed dramatically following an accident. ‘The End of Summer’ takes us on a heartfelt journey along with a father and son and the stranger that takes a detour with them. The bonus story, ‘Pick Me’ definitely left me with a smile on my face. Each story had twists and turns that made the stories unpredictable. These short stories have left me wanting to read more by the author Jane Suen.

This was a really sweet book with short stories. The author does a great job of telling the stories so that even though they are short you get the complete story and don’t feel like you are missing out.
There are 3 stories and they all deal with different situations.
Grits girl- this story is about a couple who have always had a routine for visiting the same place as she loves the grits. This one time though she gets a surprise which starts a new beginning.
The Accident- This is a moving story about how life can change in an instant and when you least expect it. It is about the ending of life as you know it and trying to begin again.
The End Of Summer- this is another moving story about a hitchhiker who gets to face his childhood past and relive it in with new eyes and appreciation.

Though a short book of short stories, it will make a large impact on your heart. Every story makes an impact and leaves a message. You will have to figure out that message. I did find a tear rolling down my cheek at times because it was very heart warming and sad at times also. Quick read and highly recommend.

Even though this book is just a selection of short stories, I so enjoyed each and every one. The first story of “Grits Girl” just totally made me smile over a girl who her grits and got a happy ending. The second story of “The Accident” was heartfelt. Adeline taking care of her after an accident. The third story of “In the end of summer” was fantastic. A young man hitch hiking a ride to Virginia and meets another man and his son. The story was heartfelt over a carnival and how Mike comes to terms to have a conversation with his son about his mother. The Bonus story of “Pick Me” totally made me smile from beginning to end and and at the end you find out what was “picked”. All these short stories were fantastic. This is an easy read and just wonderful! Well done Author Jane Suen!

Beginnings and Endings: A Selection of Short Stories by Jane Suen was a quick read and entwined the different short stories very nicely. Each story was short but very lovely and encompassed the emotions the author desired to give, whether it was a happy or sad story. This is one to sit on your living room table for others to peruse while visiting. You are not enclined to get too engrossed because of the shortness of the book as it is easy to read in one sitting. Nice stories strung together beautifully for this collection.

This is such a sweet children’s book with nice illustrations. This is a story most children will relate to, especially those who are interested in the animals. There are many endangered species in this world and Mornin, the super bird realizes that he does not want to go extinct. He wants his friends and family to thrive and flourish. So he sets out with a staunch determination to keep the animals, and the nature from extinction and he passes on his learnings to the other birds and also to the young readers. It is a very captivating read, I enjoyed it thoroughly and I would give it to my boys to read it.

So, this was the first book by Misty Hayes that I’ve read. She currently has 4 books out, 3 are a trilogy and Shield and Shade are the start of a new series. It’s the story of a girl who’s life gets turned absolutely upside down- and shattered by family secrets. It’s full of so much action, and it’s such a page turner! I seriously cannot WAIT to see what the next book’s going to be about- and I’ll be reading her trilogy here soon! I can’t tell too much of what happened in the book without giving any spoilers, but if you’re someone who LOVES plot twists- this is definitely the book for you, and you will NOT regret it!!!!!

Cute book with a great message! This book is a great way to teach children about extinction and how they can help. I liked that it was written from the bird’s perspective. This would be a good book for lower elementary students to get them to help animals. Teachers could include this book in their science units. But within those pages, children will learn about the different birds and their habitats. As Mornin goes about his day of picture taking, he discovers some birds are missing. He called upon his friends (the readers) to help save the planet. This story is well written and easy for the younger children to follow. This is such a great story to help teach young children a life lesson. I think that the author has done such a great job of putting together a way to help teach children about extinction. The characters are uplifting and thought provoking.
I like how the author has approached this subject and think this is a really great book fro young children. I wish my children were younger so that i could share this with them. I really think this is a great book to have and read. I will definitely read more from this author in future.

Mornin the Super Bird- Mornin Finds A Way To Fight Extinction by Jules Heartly is a book for young readers about preservation. Mornin makes videos to share with his friends when one day he finds statues of animals that have become extinct. In an effort to prevent his friends and family members from going extinct, he recruits his animal friends in spreading awareness to people. The video featured the various extinct animals but ended with a song to motivate children to save future generations from going extinct.
This was a cute book that portrayed a message of preservation. Heartly includes links that are teachable articles. She also includes a YouTube video for a read along of the book. I found the words in the book to be simple and easy to read which make it perfect for school age children. I rate this a 5-star book for its informative and imaginative delivery against environmental destruction.

This was such a cute book and I really enjoyed it. Jules Heartly has created a really cute way to teach young children about caring for the planet and how we all need to work together to save it. The book allows children to see the extinction of animals from the point of view of the animals. Animals have feelings too. I enjoyed this book by Jules Heartly and I think she has a future in children’s books.

This will make an excellent storybook for preschool to second grade. The plot is simple and the pictures are colorful and majestic.. This is an educational book and an entertaining story.. Once you start reading this story, it has a theme that reinforces the theme of the story. It tells of Mornin, a small bird who gets all of her friends together and they talk about extinction. I enjoyed this book and I cannot wait to share it with my granddaughter.

A fabulous and beautiful tale that is truly for all ages. I loved the story that the author lays before the reader and appreciated the detail on each page. The illustrations were beautiful and this book is the perfect addition to my library to share with my children.

Mornin’ the Super Bird is a cute, sweet story that shows children the importance of taking care of the planet for not only ourselves but animals too. The examples given in the story are simple, easy ways that children of all ages can do to make a difference. I also appreciate that there are several references at the end of the story to help children learn more about what they can do to help the Earth and its inhabitants!

This book kept me on the edge of my seat, a real page turner, I could not put it down. A little girl named Tally started off with a very sad start, but her mother left her something special. She found courage and bravery to keep going. Tally and her dad went off to India for his work. A time when children were going missing like crazy, Tally finds herself in the middle of all the chaos to find and end this. With the strength to stand up, and with the encouraging words of her angel, some even called her an angel. This book was very good and would recommend it to anyone that loves reading, packed with page turning advents and a little girl that finds a place to call home.
