OhMyGosh! This was the most adorable story that I can wholeheartedly recommend for children of all ages. Louella, a feisty, brilliant, little swamp girl is the heroine we all need. She is unabashedly herself, in all her feral wonder. She is clearly different from the other people she meets, she seems to be able to run faster, climb higher, and outfox enemies whenever needed. When she must seek out the fairy tale land of Storey that Gramps has taught her about, she shows all of the bravery and skill he knew she possessed. The characters she meets along the way are beautifully drawn, I felt like I could almost see them myself. This book is full of wonder and plain loveableness! L.B. Anne, I pray that you have a follow-up in the works!

I really enjoyed this story. It was a lovely adventure about a group of friends. All of them have supernatural abilities and all of them are misfits. Some struggle with their abilities and some just don’t fit in with their peers. However the group join forces to solve the mystery of a thief in their school and realising that even if they are misfits they all fit together perfect.
The authors do an amazing job of building the world and the characters. The characters are all well written and you are invested in the story and their progression right from the start.

As if middle school was not hard enough, finding out you are supernatural can be a lot. This mother and daughter duo have created a wonderful world full of great characters. The Southland Academy for Supernatural Youth may be aimed at younger readers but I did enjoy this book so much I recommended this book to my seventh grade son.

What an utterly fun read for a lazy afternoon! This little mystery has great characters, a well-timed plot, and an engaging mystery for readers to solve along with Sunny Baker. As noted, it does have a “grown-up Nancy Drew” feel to it, and made for a captivating story. The heroine, a 42-year-old librarian in a small beach town was relatable and fun, an ardent supporter of reading and comfortable in her own skin. I liked that she had a bit of sass and jumped into rescuing her library despite some fears she had. While this is called a Christian mystery, you certainly don’t need to be Christian in order to enjoy it. Sunny is a woman with faith, but the book doesn’t centre around this – it’s just an aspect of her personality. If you are looking for a fun cozy book to curl up with today, this might be the one!

The story is humorous, and the characters are a band of misfits that are quirky and don’t quite fit into their category of magic or specialty. This entertaining tale will leave you with all the feels in a good way. Mother and daughter have done a great job.

Southland Academy for Supernatural Youth by Sandra Tentler and Brooke Tentler is such a fun read with sweet, Charismatic characters. The story follows a group of young supernatural students who become great friends while learning about themselves and their supernatural abilities. The story is full of heart and shows us that acceptance and being true to our “real” selves is achievable. The authors have done this in a light hearted fun filled way that doesn’t dampen the readers spirit. I say bring on more Southland Academy adventures.

Devlin Wolfertz is an athletic middle schooler that loves to be center stage. Waking up on his thirteenth birthday gives him quite a surprise as he has hair literally everywhere. His parents inform him that they will be taking him to the Southland Academy for Supernatural Youth, so he can learn how to be a proper werewolf.
Devlin arrives thinking he will be the only misfit, but he is mistaken. His roommate is a vampire that doesn’t like blood and isn’t very coordinated. Another new student is a witch that is “glitchy”. Their other friends are shifters: one is a ferret shifter, another a snow owl shifter, and finally, a black tip reef shark shifter.
Shortly after arriving at SASY, the group and other students notice that their things have started disappearing during the night. This misfit group of supernaturals decides to solve the mystery themselves.
This young adult novel by Sandra Tentler and Brooke Tentler is an excellent read for middle school students. The story is very easy to read, and the characters are wonderful. You almost feel as if you are at SASY watching them day by day. A definite must-read for a tween who loves mysteries.

If you love Nancy Drew then you are going to love Ms. Montgomery’s Betrayal at The Beach. I was originally drawn to this book by the front cover, it’s colors and beach theme really drew me in, but once I started reading it I couldn’t put it down. It has everything that a good cozy mystery book should have including a great sleuth, and her friends, a mystery that will have you guessing until the end, and a wonderful meaning. As with many of Ms. Montgomery’s stories the meaning behind this one is all about body positivity and I love it. If you are looking for a warm and cozy mystery book to curl up with on a rainy day then I highly recommend Betrayal at The Beach.

Sunshine Baker work in the Bryce Beach Public Library as a YA and she has been working with the Friends of the Library Committee to organise and throw their yearly Gala to raise funds for the library, as well as her role at the library itself and has been enjoying every minute of it and as the night of the gala arrives, she is hoping that everything will go well and that the invitees will enjoy the evening. From the start it looks like everyone is having fun and the catering, magician act and music are keeping everyone entertained, when the food is served and she finds out that she has to make the first speech and introductions, she is terrified, but manages to get through it and the rest of the evening inscathed, that is until after they have counted the donations and are presenting the total to the audience when there is a crashing of glass and a scream where the crowd is shocked into panic. The Founding Fathers Bible, a priceless artifact has been stolen and when Sunshine goes to check on the donations in the locked room, she is devastated to find out that they have been stolen too.
The police are called and statements are made, but when she arrives at work on the Monday morning, the Chief of Police is there to see her and ask her some questions, however, she is surprised to find out that they suspect one of the employees and that they need the information of all who had access to the room that the donations were being kept in, whether they were at the Gala or not. This has Sunshine worrying and this is increased even more when she goes to see the head of the Library and is asked for her opinion and then to look into it in her own time as well. This spurs her onto asking questions of her friends Evangeline and Molly, drawing up a list of attendees and talking through the events of the night again, but all this does is throw suspicion around with no strong leads bar one, so the next day Molly and Sunshine make plans to talk to them, but in a non-threatening way to try and glean some more information from them about that night. As these conversations take place, more tidbits and accusations are thrown around which are making Sunshine feel even more uncomfortable as they are mostly pointing towards one of her friends and another colleague as the police appear to be less than interested.
As the stakes are raised and jobs are on the line, will Sunshine and her amateur sleuthing skills solve the mystery before jobs and a priceless artefact are lost forever? This is a cozy mystery which will keep you guessing through to the end as the hunt for answers throws light upon a small community with secrets and stories to tell.

This is the first book in the Dangerous Curves series and it was a really enjoyable read. The author does a good job of building the scene and character. The descriptions of both make this story come alive. It is a cosy mystery which keeps you guessing.
Sunshine Baker works in the library. When their is a robbery that takes most of the donations for the library and a precious heirloom that is significant for the town, Sunshine along with her friends decide that together they are going to solve the mystery of this disappearance and find out who was being the theft before its too late.

This was a delightful & fun read from the very beginning. I read this book in about 3 hours that was how much I couldn’t get enough of it. The main character is such a smart, adventurous, and brave girl. She reminds me a lot of Merida from the Disney movie “Brave”. However, I think the author did a really great job with all the characters as they all have their own abilities and skills to use in various ways. She did an amazing job describing the surroundings as well and I feel like I need to take a trip there. This is a great adventure and a definite recommendation for your kids. Especially the ones that love fantasy worlds. And I must say that as an adult I thoroughly enjoyed it and recommend it for you as well. Or perhaps, pick it up and read it to your kids. I think this would be a great bonding and sharing time story.

Southland Academy for Supernatural Youth by Sandra Tentler and Brooke Tentler is Paranormal story that can be enjoyed by any age but is aimed for early teen. It’s a fun little story that is fast paced and kept me turning the pages. I had to know what was going to happen next. The characters were fun and realistic. Strange things start happening at Southland Academy for Supernatural, and things come up missing . So this group of six young adults start to look for clues and looking for the missing ring. I highly recommend reading this book to find out what happens next. I look forward to reading more from these two. I can’t wait to share this with my neice who loves to read.

Betrayal at the Beach is the first book in the Dangerous Curves series by K.L Montgomery. This is something a little different to what Ms. Montgomery has done in the past- as this is a cozy Christian mystery, so I wasn’t sure of what to expect, but knew anything she wrote was going to be good- and of course, it was. I loved the setting, Bryce Beach, a small town beach community- as well as all the quirky and interesting inhabitants of the town. It was the perfect setting and cast for a cozy mystery, so I was hooked right from the start. Sunshine Baker is one of the local librarians who has worked incredibly hard on the annual fundraising gala hoping to raise enough funds to keep the library running. As the night arrives, Sunshine hopes everything will run smoothly as there is a lot riding on the night’s success. Just when Sunshine begins to think the night couldn’t have been better, a robbery brings the festivities to a screeching halt. Not only has the thief taken the large amount of donations, but also a priceless antique that is steeped in historical significance for all the township. It is now up to Sunny, and her friends, to get to the bottom of it all, to find the thief and return the funds and heirloom, before it’s too late. This was such a fun little adventure and a fantastic start to a wonderful new series. I can’t wait for book #2.

This is a wonderful story about how a group of misfits tackle what is thrown to them. A bunch of supernatural teenagers are at a school called SASY (Southland Academy for supernatural youth) and there are random things disappearing from the school. When six of them decide to dig into the issue, they reveal something else. It is a fun read, even middle grade students can read this book. There is no violence or sexual content. The characters are well developed and though they are full of imperfections, they are very adorable. And together, they are a perfect team, while helping and supporting each other. It is overall a fun entertaining read !

Southland Academy for Supernatural Yoith by Sandra Tentler and Brooke Tentler was a really good read! This was a very quick read to me, and a cute one at that, and I thoroughly enjoyed it! It had some humor to it, and all the characters were very well written with some amazing personalities. I loved seeing how they developed throughout the story and prevailed at the end. This is definitely a story for everyone, and is a very easy, quick and light read. I would definitely read more from these great authors in the future, and I would absolutely love to revisit these characters again in the future, with another story!

These are new authors for me, but I love this type of book so I decided to give it a shot. I wasn’t disappointed. This book introduces us to 6 main characters. Vlad, the son of the world’s most famous vampire. Devlin, the werewolf shifter. Lily, the daughter of the most well-respected warlock. Amber, the ferret shifter. Fiona, the quick-witted snow owl shifter and Sakana, the black-tip shark shifter, also pitch in along the way. I liked this story! I hope there’s more coming.

Such a fascinatingly, cute read! It was full of adventure that ended entirely too soon! The author did an excellent job of accurately describing relationships with people through the eyes of a child. Luella is an extraordinary character with exceptional powers. Her “Gramps” did a wonderful job raising her to make good decisions; even when it was hard. I hope that there will be more stories to come from the world of Storey!

This was a highly entertaining paranormal children’s story. I personally can’t wait to see how and what develops in the next installment. These characters were so entertaining I connected with them from the beginning. In my opinion, the characters brought this story to life. This is written by a mother/daughter author team and THEY DID A GREAT JOB! I found myself flying through this book. It’s aimed at early teen readers, but like the Harry Potter books, this is a great read for all ages. I highly recommend parents sit down and read this book alongside their kids. I will say I would like to see this book come to either a TV or movie screen in the future. I loved it.

I grabbed this book because of the cover and I thought it would be something my grandkids would love. The thing is, I read it, couldn’t put it down, and fell in love with it. Although it is suited for 8 – 12 year olds, this much older reader thought it was such a fantastic story and found herself on the edge of her seat most of the read because it flowed so well that you really had no idea what was going to happen next. I read in one of the other reviews that they were hoping for a series. YES PLEASE, what happens next was something I really wanted to know. It did not end on a cliff hanger but after following the birds for so long I really wanted to know more.
This is my first ever read by this author and I have already mentioned her to my daughters and I will be buying a copy of this for each of my grands! I simply loved this story and the character of Lu was so amazingly written.
I can’t recommend this high enough for any age..it was a fantastic book!

I felt like there were a lot of unresolved questions and the ending felt a little rushed. With magic and mystery, love and family, secrets and friendships. A great collaboration with the author and her daughter. The book itself is extremely well written. I loved that the characters are relatable because all youth go through similar feelings when hitting puberty, or just in general when they do not feel like they are appreciated enough. The book starts us off on a great beginning to lead us on for other books to come, and friendships blooming. This is the perfect book for children 10 and up I believe, but if your child is on a high reading level even younger youth can read it. Don’t mistake this review to mean that adults cannot enjoy this book because I am an adult I got immense reading pleasure from this book.

What a fun read! At first I wasn’t sure I was going to be able to get into the story, but I quickly became engrossed in this book and reading quickly to find out what would happen next. I really enjoyed all of the characters, especially that of Luella. She is a brave, smart and adventurous girl. I love the fact that she has some sort of special power if you will, and can sense things, and that she is from a fantastical world called Storey. I never really understood who the men were that were trying to get her, but the fact that she evaded them for so long was amazing and shows her skill set and that she listened when her gramps was giving her all his many lessons and advice. When she meets Wren and Robin on her adventure to find her Gramps and Storey, I kind of had a feeling that these girls were somehow connected to her in some way. I really enjoyed this author’s writing style and the flow of the book. I look forward to see what comes next.

The Way To Storey by L.B. Anne is a great YA book that is imaginative and interesting. For me this whole book is about Luella. I fell in love with her straight away and had to read the book to find out what happened to her. Her journey was such an interesting one and I enjoyed going on it with her. I thought the story itself was good. It was well written and had a great flow to it. It is the kind of book that would appeal to more than just its intended age range and is one I would certainly recommend.

I very much enjoy stories about the supernatural. I never stopped to think that maybe they weren’t just born knowing how to be great. Southland Academy for Supernatural Youth is where you go to learn and perfect your abilities. Can this band of misfits; a werewolf who can only partially transform, a glitchy witch who messes up the easiest of spells, a vampire that faints at the sight of blood; can they solve a mystery? Can they bring out the strengths in each other to overcome their weaknesses? This was a very cute story that had me giggling to the end. 5 Stars Betrayal at the Beach (Dangerous Curves Book 1) by K.L. Montgomery
I absolutely loved this book. Betrayal at the Beach is the first book in the Dangerous Curves Series by KL Montgomery. This is a Cozy Mystery that once you start reading you won’t want to stop until you’ve finished. I’m a big fan of this author and never hesitate picking up a book from her , her style of writing and attention to detail simply blows me away every time. This is a story about Sunshine, she works at the library and finds herself managing and planning a fundraiser. What she didn’t know is that it would lead her to having to solve a crime to save the library. Sunshine along with help from her friend Molly search for clues for the missing Founder’s Bible and the stolen money . Find out what happens next in this absolute must read. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series.

This is my first book by Sandra Tentler and Brooke Tentler. The cover is what grabbed my attention and I wanted to read it. I am glad I decided to read this book. The plotline is a mystery story with supernatural characters. This is a fast-paced book that kept me turning the pages. The characters are cuts and some characters have recognizable supernatural parents. There are some shifters and the animals are new to me. I really like how these six different characters worked together to find the missing ring. There were some twists and turns that had me second-guessing what I was thinking who did it. I really enjoyed reading this book and I recommend it for fourth grade and up.

Jake the Growling Dog Goes to Doggy Daycare: A Children’s Book about Trying New Things, Friendship, Finding Comfort and Kindness is the second installment in the Jake the Growling Dog! A children’s picture book series written by Samantha Shannon and illustrated by Lei Yang. Through this book’s fifty-two vibrant pages children will able to learn about healthy ways to overcome their own fears, deal with stress, and cope with new situations.
The book is told through the eyes of the series star character, Jake. He is a sweet and joyful dog who has a tendency to growl. In this particular book, Jake is faced with the adventure of going to Doggy Daycare for a couple of days for the first time. This makes him nervous and scared. With the help of his best friend Neet helps Jake overcome his fears in the beginning. After settling in, Jake is able to overcome his conflicting feelings when faced with more situations. By the end, he makes new friends at Doggy Daycare.
The story is told in rhyming verse with colorful pictures featuring Jake that will capture young readers’ minds as they relate to his struggles. It is a great read for young children who might be faced with new situations or people. They will encounter guidance that can help their own self-confidence in these situations and empathy for others in similar situations while encouraging friendship. I recommend this book to school-agers, and parents to read to their children.

Southland Academy For Supernatural Youth by Sandra Tentler and Brooke Tentler is such a fun read. This is a paranormal mystery aimed at early teen readers, but really can be enjoyed at any age. At the Southland Academy for Supernatural Youth, strange things seem to be happening. Things are going missing, and trouble is brewing- but our band of endearing misfits is on the case- and so starts this wonderful little story. I really enjoyed exploring this book and joining the quirky band of misfits on their adventure. Looking forward to more from this duo.
