Who wouldn’t love a book where a dog and a squirrel are best friends? While this is a bright eye-catching book with fun illustrations and a great story about trying new things and friendship, the really amazing part is at the end of the book! Shannon has provided a wonderful tool to talk with young children about how they may feel just before trying something new or when they are stressed. It has age-appropriate explanations for what the child may be feeling, how they can manage those feelings, and how to turn it around with self-confidence and imaginative play, and drawing/writing. This is such a wonderful conversation starter to help children learn confidence, bravery, and great mental health habits. Shannon created an interactive “guide” that allows children to learn that they are in charge of their body and can manage their feelings, and how their body responds so that they can practice mindfulness and go through life with tools to help them grow into confident, happy, kind, amazing human beings. I can’t recommend this enough to teachers and families of little ones! Your child will love Jake’s adventures with Neet, and the adult will love knowing they are preparing their child for a bright future!!

Jake the Growling Dog Goes to Doggy Daycare: A Children’s Book about New Experiences, Friendship, Stress Relief, and Kindness is the second book in the Jake the Growling Dog series by Samantha Shannon. The author has a background in educational counseling, and uses that to create this fun, bright, and engaging story for children (of all ages!). Jake does not want to leave the comforts of home and his snuggly bed in order to be around the other animals at Doggy Daycare. He is worried about new things and faces and what the others will think about him. With the help of his new friends and the Kindness Critters, Jake shows the reader that feeling this way sometimes is okay, and shows them how to work through it instead of running away. This story is interactive and the illustrations are vibrant and interesting. This will be a great tool for teaching our little ones how to work through certain emotions instead of being afraid of them. Whether at home or in school, Jake the Growling Dog would be an excellent resource to share with your children. I recommend this book with 5 out of 5 stars and will be checking out the other books by this author for future use with my daughter.

This is a delightful and cute story that I can see myself using with my students when we discuss new experiences, being nervous, and friendships. Though Jake and Neet are an unusual friend pair, they prove to us that friends come in all shapes and sizes.

Shannon reminds the reader that it’s okay to be afraid, to be nervous, and to lean on someone. That true friends help each other get through scary times through support and encouragement. Together we are invincible!

This story was very entertaining. The kids of great paranormal monsters are not so great. It gives you a view of the what if. These kids are not as amazing as their parents but they’re amazing in their own way. I enjoyed the story for the most part. There were some moments that I was felt could be better. The kids were good characters. I think the plot needed some work. The base was there with the characters it was just a meh story line. I feel like these kids could do anything. Would love to see them brought back with a different story. Overall I would definitely read from these authors again especially about these kids.

Betrayal at the Beach (Dangerous Curves Book1) by K.L Montgomery is a fun, entertaining cozy mystery. Sunshine Baker is the Young Adult librarian in her hometown of Bryce Beach. Sunshine is tasked with planning the annual Friends of the Library Gala this year. The Gala is very important to the library because funds have been cut and the Library needs all the help it can get from this fundraiser. Of all the possible things Sunshine had worried about happening at the Gala, theft of the money raised and of the 400 year old bible that was brought over by the town’s founding members at the Gala wasn’t one of them. When Sunshine finds out that the police think one of the library employees planned the theft, she vows to find the culprit!

This is the first book I’ve read by this author. I really enjoyed reading this book and can’t wait to read the next book in the series. I love that Sunshine and her librarian friends are women with curves. We all come in different shapes and sizes and this book shows that everyone is important.

K.L. Montgomery is an amazing writer. I have read her books before and I knew I would like this book as well. Her plotline is a simple mystery. She makes you feel like you are a part of the story. Her characters are simple but complex at the same time. Sunshine is the librarian for the small town of Bryce Beach. She was in charge of finding the person(s) involved in robbing the library. She is a bit nervous because her job depends on her finding the culprits. Can Sunshine and her squad find the stolen items? Will the robber be a colleague? I highly recommend this sweet cozy story.

Flowers in December AUDIO BOOK by Jane Suen was such an emotional read. Having lost a family member recently I felt the thought process was very human and realistic. There are a lot of human moments and acceptance in the process. While it was a quick story there was a good plot, lots of details, and an emotional journey. I found the narrator’s voice really soothing and the pacing well done

Betrayal at the Beach: A Cozy Christian Mystery by K.L. Montgomery is the first book in the Dangerous Curves series. This is a fantastic book that is so entertaining from start to finish. It is a little different from what this author has written previously but it has been done so well that you would never realise. The characters are all so interesting and all have the perfect role within the story. I also loved the fact that Sunshine actually felt like a normal person – it was so easy to imagine her and relate to her as though she is someone you would see on the street everyday.

I thoroughly enjoyed this enjoyable and engaging cozy mystery which is the first book in a new series about YA librarian and amateur sleuth Sunshine Baker, and is set in the fictional small town of Bryce Beach. Sunshine who is a curvy redheaded librarian who despite her surname can’t bake works at the Bryce Beach Public Library and she jumps into action when there is a mystery to solve. When the proceeds from the library’s annual fundraising gala and Bryce Beach’s Bible, a priceless historical artefact which contains the town’s founding fathers’ signatures goes missing, Nancy Drew fan Sunshine despite no sleuthing experience is keen to discover the culprit. However she soon starts to wonder if it’s one of her own colleagues who is out to destroy the library. I love Sunshine and her catchphrase of “Jesus, take the wheel!”, she makes a great main character who really does bring the whole story together. Her colleagues, children’s librarian Molly Simmons and cataloguer Evangeline Dupree both bring different elements to the story and I loved the relationships and dialogue between the fellow librarians.
The descriptive narrative really bought both the characters and the setting to life and I felt immersed in the story as though I was on the adventure alongside Sunshine. The plot twists kept me guessing until the end and I was gripped by the storyline and found I could not put this book down. ‘Betrayal at the Beach’ is the first book in the new ‘Dangerous Curves’ cozy Christian mystery series, and this is a great introduction to Sunshine and Bryce Beach. I look forward to reading the future books in this series and being back in the Bryce Beach Public Library with Sunshine and her colleagues.

Betrayal at the Beach (Dangerous Curves Book 1) by K.L. Montgomery. I love K.L. Montgomery and her body positive books so it was no surprise when I fell in love with this book. I read it entirely in one sitting. Its the story of Sunshine Baker who is the Young Adult Head Librarian and is a plus size girl. She and her friends at the library are in a pickle because Sunshine is planning the Friends of the Library gala and its a huge success until someone steals all the proceeds she raised from it. That is how the library is able to stay open so Sunshine is determined to figure out who took the money and get it back. Sunshine thinks since she’s read a few Nancy Drew books in her time she can figure it out in no time. Sunshine along with her friend Molly begin to find clues and the culprit will leave them shocked! I was super excited to read this book because I had heard so many good things about it from my reader friends. I have read a couple of books by this author previously so I was pretty sure I knew I would like it. Turns out, I didn’t just like it. I LOVED IT! The author did a wonderful job writing for “plus-sized” women that don’t normally get this joy. I think it adds to a positive image for the readers and makes them feel confident and comfortable in their skin. Which is the way that life should be for women. This book also contains some religious undertones which I have never known her to do before but think that they are perfect, and I hope that she continues to use them. The world needs more of that in my opinion. I fell in love with the main character and really want to be her in another life. The writer did such an amazing job describing her and everything little detail around her and her world. This is a mystery as well, but without all the typical gore and brutality. I loved the ending and absolutely cannot wait to read the next installment when she puts it out. This is a very quick read and once you start you won’t want to put it down. I highly recommend you read this book for yourself. And then recommend it to all your girlfriends to read as well.

Sunshine Baker is the young adult librarian at Bryce Beach Public Library. This year she is planning the Friends of the Library Gala. The gala is how the library gets its donations for the year. The gala is a huge success until something terrible happens.

During the announcement of the funds raised for the library, the library is robbed. The most famous book in the library, the Family Bible of the Bryce’s is stolen from its case. Upon further investigation, all the donations have also been taken.

Sunshine is asked by the chief of police and her boss to look into the people in the library. Sunshine is very uncomfortable looking into her colleagues knowing that each one would benefit from the donations to the library and some might even lose their jobs without those donations.

Sunshine begins her investigation and automatically goes into “Nancy Drew” mode as she calls it. With the help of her friend, Molly, Sunshine uncovers piece by piece of the puzzle. The actual culprit is a huge surprise to all involved.

This cozy mystery is a quick read. The body-positive messages are great for anyone who struggles with feeling good about who they are. I really enjoyed the story and the way the mystery unfolds leading to dead ends and then the finale.

In this book Sunshine basically gives her backstory. Then a crime is committed in the library and she’s asked to help the police solve it. It’s a good story and I will be excited for the next book in this series.

This is a well-written book. The rhyming pattern kept if flowy and fun. Jake the growling dog is so relatable in this tale. He is experiencing a new situation. He is going to doggy daycare for 2 days. He has never been there. He is nervous. Will the other dogs like him even though he growls all the time? Will he make new friends? What if he is scared? What if the others are scared of him?
We all go through these situations. The fun activities at the end of the story help remind children that what they are feeling is normal and okay. I do love the mindfulness activities. The breathing exercise has been very helpful with my grandson.

I loved listening to this entertaining audio.  This is my first audio from this author.  I loved being pulled into the story by the voice of the narrator.  This is a great author who has chosen a great narrator for her story.  I enjoyed the tone of voice and the voice changes throughout the story.  This is a story about loss of a parent and loss of yourself.  The characters are lovable, connectable and will pull you into their world.   A story of a man who loses his mother and has returned home to realize that he has no one left in his life. He finds companionship in the cat that his mom left behind. Will this cat be the healing that he needs? Will he finally be free of the evils and be able to heal?   I highly recommend this audio, it is truly worth the pick up

Betrayal At The Beach: A Cozy Christian Mystery is the first book in the Dangerous Curves series by K.L. Montgomery.

The main character is called Sunshine, and she definitely lives up to her name. She is in her forties, quirky, and very relatable. To be honest, I thought the whole cast of characters was amazing and helped to make this book so enjoyable.
Despite having no professional skills to do so, librarian Sunshine rallies the troops when she discovers that the library’s funds have been stolen along with a Bible that has a historical worth as well as a spiritual one.
The story is filled with twists and turns as Sunshine and her friends get closer to solving this mystery. I found this story very enjoyable and the author’s storytelling skills had me turning the pages late into the night.

This is the first book in the series. This audio book is just over two hours long.  This story follows Connor as he travels back home to lay his mother to rest.  Connor has barely been back to his hometown in over 20 years and he is not looking forward to it.  He has so many feelings of regret that he has carried with him throughout his life since he left.  Now he is all alone except for his cat, Tom.  This was such a heartfelt story of a lonely man facing his past and wondering what his future holds.

I’m one for young adult books and I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. The different perspective on each character gives you an insight on just what’s going on in a 13 year old’s mind. It reminded me very much when I was younger and wishing I had awesome friends like Vlad, Damien, Lily and the other misfits in the group. I had a good chuckle about the situations these kids got themselves in. I highly recommend if you need a good chuckle or want to remember being a preteen again.

This was such a delightful book to read. Who hasn’t experienced these feelings? We all have, and children especially in today’s world are experiencing this. I really enjoyed the main character Jake and was able to connect with him. The story flowed easily and had me wanting to turn to the next page to find out what happens next. The rhyming and “fun” of the words also made you feel like cheering on Jake and supporting him as his friend did. This is a book that could and should be read to anyone who is feeling either stressed, or about to have a new experience. This book shows what a little Kindness and friendship can do. I give this book 5 stars.
