Betrayal at the Beach: A Cozy Christian Mystery (Dangerous Curves Book 1)Betrayal at the Beach: A Cozy Christian Mystery by K.L. Montgomery
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I thoroughly enjoyed this enjoyable and engaging cozy mystery which is the first book in a new series about YA librarian and amateur sleuth Sunshine Baker, and is set in the fictional small town of Bryce Beach. Sunshine who is a curvy redheaded librarian who despite her surname can’t bake works at the Bryce Beach Public Library and she jumps into action when there is a mystery to solve. When the proceeds from the library’s annual fundraising gala and Bryce Beach’s Bible, a priceless historical artefact which contains the town’s founding fathers’ signatures goes missing, Nancy Drew fan Sunshine despite no sleuthing experience is keen to discover the culprit. However she soon starts to wonder if it’s one of her own colleagues who is out to destroy the library. I love Sunshine and her catchphrase of “Jesus, take the wheel!”, she makes a great main character who really does bring the whole story together. Her colleagues, children’s librarian Molly Simmons and cataloguer Evangeline Dupree both bring different elements to the story and I loved the relationships and dialogue between the fellow librarians.
The descriptive narrative really bought both the characters and the setting to life and I felt immersed in the story as though I was on the adventure alongside Sunshine. The plot twists kept me guessing until the end and I was gripped by the storyline and found I could not put this book down. ‘Betrayal at the Beach’ is the first book in the new ‘Dangerous Curves’ cozy Christian mystery series, and this is a great introduction to Sunshine and Bryce Beach. I look forward to reading the future books in this series and being back in the Bryce Beach Public Library with Sunshine and her colleagues.
