Amaleigha is back with some more big ideas. She is a smart six year old with a heart of gold. She loves to read and visits the library often. One day while there, she notices that while there is a large selection of books for her to choose from, there are not many books in other languages. This makes her sad knowing the bilingual children have to read the same books over and over. An idea starts forming but she knows that she’ll need help to accomplish her goal. This is a terrific book to show children how to think about and help others. I love how the author adds instructions at the back of the book explaining how you can do what Amaleigha did.

I love finding new authors. This is the first book by this author I have read and I wish my children were young enough to also read it. I like how the author brings the characters to life and how down to earth they are. The story was really inventive and creative. I really think that this book would inspire kids and help them learn how to help others. I really recommend this book for kids and believe that it teaches a good lesson.

This is a beautifully written and illustrated story. The story is what a parent/caregiver would wish for their baby – from filling the heart with love, beauty and kindness, to faith and courage, to peace and love and protection. All of the things a new parent wants for their baby. But – in the end, there is no need for magic- because the magic is the new baby and all that it brings into the world. The illustrations in this book are gorgeous and diverse – representing mothers/fathers/caregivers from all over the world and the joy that a new baby brings into their lives.
This is a great bedtime story – one that will bring sweet dreams.

Amaleigha is a 6 year old with a big heart who likes to spread kindness and LOVES books!! One day she noticed that her library didn’t have a lot of books for kids who speak a different language. So she came up with a plan to solve that problem and she enlisted others for help. She enlisted donations at school and in the community to raise money to purchase more books and make a book box that would be open for kids to get books even when the school and library were closed.

Amaleigha is a little girl who loves to read books. She visits her school library often and reads as many stories as she can. One day while visiting her school library Amaleigha discovers that there seems to be a shortage of books written in different languages. There are no books available to read for those from different countries that have come to live in her community. Amaleigha comes up with a plan and with the help of her school and her community they set out to solve this problem.

Amaleigha is a smart little girl that is wise beyond her years. She is great at problem solving and comes up with solutions before putting a plan into motion. Amaleigha is a true inspiration for children of all ages. This book was beautifully written, and the illustrations were exquisite. A must read for all ages!

She has become a little role model. I love reading her stories to my grandchildren. She has wonderful ideas and the author always posts tips and items about her ideas in the back. I loved this story. I am a bookworm myself and love the Little Free Libraries. Making a bilingual box was a fantastic idea and she had some amazing ideas to go along with how to do it and get it put together. She knew how to ask for help and to do this. I enjoyed reading the story. It’s fun and the kids are learning while being entertained. It’s also a conversation starter. That’s my favorite item about these books. They open the lines of communication between adult and child. I can’t wait to find more of these to read and add to my grandchildren’s library.

Sometimes when you dream, it takes a while for it to become a reality. I have wanted to write books since I was a little girl and fell in love with my home town library. I read books at school, at home, in bed and even in the bathtub. I just couldn’t get enough of far away places, brave heroes and heroines and the experience of getting lost in a new and amazing adventure in each book. Through the years, I became  the owner of a preschool, a public librarian, a school librarian and a children’s yoga teacher but no mater what I did I shared stories with children. Finally, at age 62, I have published my first book but I know it won’t be my last. Check out Amaleigha and her big idea!

My kids absolutely loved this book! Reading about Caspian’s and his hot chocolate socks. We giggled and laughed till our sides hurt. My kids were encouraged throughout the book to help with the adventures, and I loved it! My kids wanted to read it over and over again until it was well past bedtime.

Amaleigha and the Big Idea by Janice Pratt – Review by Codi Parham

A girl after my own heart! Amaleigha has a BIG idea. Her ingenuity is infectious! She sees beauty in the world around her and wants to share it with everyone. With a wisdom beyond her years, she incorporates the help of others to create a magical surprise.

Super Enemies by Lois Wickstrom – Review by Jamie Burns

Lois Wickstrom created a realistic and entertaining story of the relationship between a brother and a sister. The siblings cannot agree on an activity much less get along with each other. Wickstrom shows that even if you do not always get along with your sibling or do exactly the same activity, you can still do things together. This story reminds me of many squabbles with my own brother. I recommend this book to any parent at their wit’s end with their children who have declared themselves enemies.

Super Enemies by Lois Wickstrom. This is such a great children’s book. The story is so true for most siblings. My brother and I fought to the death and are now super close and that is what this book reminded me of. Mira and Carl are brother and sister and they fight about everything. If Mira says its black Carl says its white and vice versa. Everything little thing turns into an argument from games they play to what they want to be when they grow up. They really enjoy trying to outdo one another and I’m sure most kids can relate if they have siblings. Great read for children!

It is a good story and I think many kids will enjoy it.

This author has quickly become a quick staple in our household. Each and every book we read by her is just as good as the last and we all get so much enjoyment out of them. I have to say this book probably wasn’t my favourite out of the ones we read, but both of my children seemed to love it. They found it entertaining right from the start and actually sat at read it all with me.
This author really has a knack for writing great children’s stories and I know we are always in for a good one when we pick one of hers. I am looking forward to starting the next one.

This is such a sweet and fun story with an adorable character right at its core. I read this book with my daughter and I could see how much she engaged with the main character. Her inquisitive nature and how much she loved to explore really appealed to my daughter and her own nature.
I think I really connected with this character too as she is so close in age to my daughter. I found myself comparing them as we read through the book – which we did more that once! The whole story was fun and entertaining. This was a great read and I am already looking forward to when we read it again.

I throughly enjoy little stories like this to read to my grandchild. They are quick, thoughtful and the way the wand is passed around is perfectly done. The pictures accompanied by the lovely words make this one a keeper.

If you know me and have kids or are expecting…I will probably be sending you this one.

Moby Plays the Flute by Eeha Bhatt – Review by Jamie Burns

“The moment that you stop believing in yourself, you give up on yourself” (Eeha Bhatt)

Moby Plays the Flute is an amazing book with a powerful message, do NOT stop believing in yourself, and do NOT give up when life gets tough, you CAN do hard things! This book spoke to my heart today because it reminded me of my childhood and how far I have come in life. I struggled with school from elementary through high school, especially with learning how to read and anything to do with math. Without the help of amazing teachers and professors, I would have given up. I am so happy that I did not give up on reading, even though it was hard. It is now one of my favorite pastimes and ended up becoming part of my profession as a school librarian. As much as the message of this book spoke to me as an adult, I wish I could have read it as a child. This is such a beautifully encouraging children’s book.

Hi-lights that I love from Moby Plays the Flute:
– There is a QR Code that enables you to access an exclusive reading of the book!
– The illustrations- Oh My Gosh! Eeha Bhatt did an amazing job creating the illustrations, and the attention to detail is amazing! I just love the illustrations- they are adorable!
– The messages within the book… There are SO many! Hard work pays off, persevere even if something is hard, believe in yourself, and put effort into everything you do. “Effort comes from strong determination, having a goal, and putting in hard work. All of this is ignited by believing in yourself” (Eeha Bhatt).
-The back matter of the book includes all of the messages found within the book and are great discussion points with children. There are a few fun facts and activities included in the back matter as well.

4.5 Stars

The Sneaky Kitten is the fourth book in the Invisible Magic Wand Series by Lois Wickstrom. It is a captivating children’s fantasy story that has a really cute storyline, bright/colourful illustrations, plenty of fun, and adventure- with just a touch of sci-fi and magic.
Caspian and Grandpa notice a frisbee fly by and Caspian really wants to play with it. But when they find it, they also find a kitten who is stuck up a tree. They set out to rescue the kitten, and so their adventure begins. The kitten and frisbee are much more than they appear.
This quirky story was imaginative, engaging and fun.
Looking forward to more ‘Invisible Magic Wand’ instalments.
Happy reading…

Another great read by Lois Wickstrom! Caspian and Grandpa are out for a walk when a frisbee comes whirring by them. It gets stuck up in a tree and Caspian realizes he can’t reach it. Then he remembers his hot chocolate socks Grandpa gave him so he runs home to put them on. When he returns, he’s able to retrieve the frisbee but gets so much more in return when a sneaky little kitten is also stuck up in the tree.

Super cute book but you might have to let the kiddos know that hot chocolate socks aren’t actually a thing! 😉

This was a really cute book! It wasn’t very realistic, but it had a good story to it and cute illustrations. I think this would be a book that could make kids laugh. I would love to read this to my daughter but she’s too young to care or understand what’s going on. I would recommend this to any young child! Words have escaped me when it comes to this book! I love the underlying message of the book, that everyone has magic inside of them, but not the kind of magic one would think! This is such an important book to read to little ones, it will instill self confidence in them from an early age. The illustrations were also beautifully done, and I loved how they were inclusive of many different ethnicities and cultural groups in them. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who has children!

Amaleigha and the Big Idea by Janice Pratt – Review by Jamie Burns

Amaleigha loves everything about nature, playing outside, exploring the wonderful world around her- even the tiniest parts (insects), and watching the seasons change. There are many things that I adore about this book! First, let’s start with the fact that I was Amaleigha… Growing up, I was always playing outside, going on adventures, and building things out of items I found outside. Secondly, I love the rich vocabulary that is used throughout the book. As a teacher, I could think of many ELA lessons that could be tied to this book. As a school librarian, I loved the detailed illustrations created by Alina Kralia. Kralia’s detailed illustrations ensure that children can see the wonderful world of nature that Amaleigha loves. Readers can see the changes in seasons throughout the book as they explore the world with Amaleigha. The thing that I love most is the message that even though you are young, you can still do great things like Amaleigha.

This is a delightful book for any nature lover, it makes me just want to get outside right now and explore! I think this book would be fantastic to share while on an adventure with your little one. Take a blanket and Amaleigha’s Big Idea outside to enjoy, then go on a mini adventure of your own. Build a love of nature and books within your child! 🙂

I would give this book more stars if I could because I absolutely loved it!

Another great open ended book for children. One I can honestly say kids will love. Caspian sees a kitten stuck in a tree. Using his gifts from his grandfather, he is on the rescue. This author has children in mind when she writes her stories. She encourages the children to interact with the story as well. I have recommended this to many of my grandchildren and they LOVED it too.

Caspian uses his magic socks from his grandpa to help keep a sneaky little kitten safe – safe from being in a tree, on a log in a river. When they go back to the tree where the Frisbee is, the kitten jumps on the Frisbee and a bubble grows around it. The kitten zooms around on his little Frisbee ship. Caspian is sad that he didn’t get to play with the Frisbee or rescue the kitten. Grandpa points out that the day was fun anyway – and that is what matters.

The Sneaky Kitten (Invisible Magic Wand Book 4) by Lois Wickstrom – Review by Jamie Burns

The Sneaky Kitten by Lois Wickstrom is a cute book with a twist. You can tell that creativity and imagination were used when writing this book. I originally thought this book was going to be more about a kitten from space causing mischief on Earth. I was pleasantly surprised to see this book was more about Caspian helping the kitten after it gets into many challenging situations. The Sneaky Kitten is the perfect book for any cat lover or child who loves to use their imagination. Cuddle up with some cocoa and read this book today! You’ll thank me later for recommending the cocoa! 🙂

Parents always want only the best for their children. If I had a Magic Wand by Melissa Lavi is a heartwarming book about parents’ wishes, dreams, and hopes for their children. Lavi’s book captures the beautiful bond between parent and child. The illustrations by Ela Ward are simply enchanting and add a whimsical flair to the story.
