This is a beautiful children’s book! The illustrations are my favorite part of the book – the colorful starfish and the cool crabs that show up on every page. A counting book with information on starfish at the end – one you can read with your child, count the starfish and learn about them all at the same time. If I still had littles, I would have this one on my shelf.

Hole in the Rock is a fast paced adventure book for children aged 8-12 but I thoroughly enjoyed the book . I think it has a message for adults as well. The story is centered around 12 year old Lizzy , an animal lover, whose ideals do not exactly match with her parents. She has her own share of adventures with her friends and does not like her father’s job. Things take a drastic turn when her father decides to move their home into a cave. Lizzy makes few choices and they do not always turn out right. Her parents set few expectations and that does not always turn out right. The story is mainly about both Lizzy and her parents understanding that actions lead to consequences, which might cost us dearly, not everyone agrees to our actions and we all make mistakes. There is a huge lesson to be learnt from this book for everyone and I highly recommend it.

Ten Little Starfish is a counting book written by Kim Ann. My daughter loves the beach so this was perfect for her. It kept her attention well and she said she likes the pictures. She liked counting the starfish on each page. I loved that there were a few starfish facts after the story and a few games too. It kept my little reader interested in the story and made it easier for her to want to read it again. I’m always a fan of stories where we can learn without trying too hard! I’d love to share more stories by this author with my kids!

Hole in the Rock was the first book I have read by Rebecca. She did a really great job writing and describing the main characters, Lizza was one of my favorites in the book. She was cute, funny, and annoying all at the same time. The book alone was funny. I would say this book is more for middle school aged kids. I would definitely read more books written by her.

This was such an amazing read. When I first read the blurb, I wasn’t really expecting there be so much emotion in the story and for what I was reading to be so powerful. It really did feel like real lives I was reading about; I was really invested in the story and what Claire would do. Claire really was an amazing character, for her age she had such strength, care and loyalty and that really shone through. She had such difficult decisions to make that would not only impact on her life but also of that f her mother and her baby brother. There were some good twists in the story and a great character in Claire’s Uncle who you just have to hate! This was an amazing read and definitely one that shouldn’t be missed! I 100% recommend Complicated Choices – it’s a wonderful read.
This is such a fun counting book filled with beautiful illustrations that any young child will absolutely love. I also really loved all the little facts about starfish at the end of the story.

Ten Little Star Fish: A Counting Book by Kim Ann. It is a fun learn-to-count picture book that is accompanied by lovely, cute, interesting, and colourful illustrations that easily captures your attention, while bringing the whole story to life. The rhyming verses that told the story are a great way to help teach young children to count. This also has the added interest of having some starfish ‘facts’ listed at the end of the book, as well as a ‘finder’ puzzle that made this storybook both educational and fun. Highly recommended. This is a cute little book that will be great to teach a little one how to count. The illustrations are very vibrant and can help to teach colors as well. The story is narrated by a crab and tells about various aspects of starfish. At the end of the story, there is a brief activity to reinforce learning, as well as a song that can be downloaded to sing along.
This book would make a great gift, be an amazing find in a library (personal, public, school), or even in a daycare setting.

This was a fun book to encourage counting in young kids. Not only was the writing and story lovely, but the illustrations were also beautifully done. The rhyming was fun and the bright colours engaging for children.
I liked the small selection of starfish facts at the end, there was one that I didn’t know so I learnt something too!
I would recommend this book if you’re looking for a fun book to help young children count to ten.

This book is a fun and entertaining counting book that is perfect for young children. It is probably the first book that is better suited to my younger child which was a nice change. It was lovely to see my daughter reading it to my son, teaching him the numbers. The images in the books kept them both engaged from start to finish and I loved sharing the book with them both. The educational element is made fun for the family. This is a great book that all kids should read.

What an engaging, colorfully illustrated, fun book of starfish as we count from 1-10. The story is wonderful and I love the rhyme that goes along each page. The starfish are in the sandy beach floor as they find their way to the rocks or on the ocean floor.
I loved that learning tidbits at the end of the story as well about starfish….this book can be enjoyed from very young to old….I never stop learning and I learned some interesting facts about starfish!

The art in this book is absolutely beautiful. I love the way this book is interactive, so the child will have to count the starfish on each prior to reading. Love the illustrations This engaging picture story counting book is brilliantly presented. L. Small is the author of fantasy stories for the young and the young at heart, including A Dress To Remember: A Fairy Tale, the Brass Ring fantasy novels for young readers, and the Strand trilogy for young adults. She was born in Queens, New York, the oldest of nine children.
She was an avid reader as a child, and her father often told her “to get your nose out of that book and go outside.” While she did go outside, she never lost her love of reading, especially horse stories and fantasy novels. Some of her treasured possessions are several much-loved books by Marguerite Henry. She has taken one of the books, Five O’clock Charlie, into classrooms for the Great American Teach-In and shared the story with children, along with the letter she received from Ms. Henry in response to her fan letter to the author.
She attended Binghamton University, starting as a Creative Writing major. After earning a master’s degree from Syracuse University, she spent her professional career in the electric utility business in a variety of roles, ranging from environmental work, community relations, communication, and change management.
Her childhood dream was to own a horse and be an author. She is living her dream in Brooksville, Florida, with her husband, Rick, on a ranch called Carousel Acres. They own two horses: an off-the-track Thoroughbred named Rory and an American mustang called Skylark. They share the barn with three cats named after the Golden Girls: Blanche, Dorothy, and Rose. A fourth cat, Stan, has decided to join the barn crew.

4 out of 5 stars for the reason I gave it a four it was not because I did not like the book but it has some true life decisions when it comes to having a child. This book is an amazing true-life story when it comes to a teen girl and a child. Clarie had to decide to keep the baby or let it go so she can go back to normal but what is normal to Clarie? Life is not the same for Claire. The book got me to tears and I couldn’t let go of it. Well done to the author for bringing life into a story.
Complicated Choices indeed! It is a contemporary YA coming-of-age story by Risa Nyman. I have read all of Risa’s books and each and every one is about strength, resilience and love. This relatable fast-paced complex story is full of secrets, fear, yearning, hope, helplessness and many more emotions. It will hit you in all the feels. It is a story where the sassy MC has untapped strength, maturity, is a fighter but has to grow up before her time due to circumstances. Being a senior year of high school is bad enough with all the insecurities, angst, uncertainty, and hormones and not knowing where you are going but add in being responsible for a baby, yep it is hard. This one cut a little closer to home. Raising a younger brother brought back memories, struggles, although mine are not bad it still took me back. Depression is also not a stranger. There is drama and some humour and being able to cope with the help of a BFF and boyfriend. What would you do for someone you love? Ask yourself that question as you work your way on this journey with a young woman facing what seems like insurmountable odds. Complicated Choices is definitely worth a read.

It is a story of choices, coming of age, self-discovery, family, responsibility, challenges, teen angst/drama, complex issues, secrets, dramatic developments, and heartwarming moments. Wow, this story was powerful, hard to put down and I totally devoured this book, drama filled and overall compelling…….I loved this story so much.
Claire Jackson is to have fun and freedom during her senior year of high school. This changes when an accidental pregnancy upends her plans…..her mother is pregnant and has a little boy, Harry. Claire’s mother goes on a downward spiral of mental health and depression issues….leaving Claire to take care Harry from morning to night…..but Claire’s resilience and loyalty toward her baby brother, she will do anything to protect him at all costs…even when her own uncle threatens to take away Harry…will Claire’s battle keep her baby brother with her and what happens when the truth finally comes…
I loved Claire’s loyalty and her thoughts of all her “complicated choices” that she had to endure throughout this story. This book was emotional….and overall fantastic.
Claire is in an almost impossible position as she navigates her senior year being nothing like she expected. Instead of being with friends and enjoying a carefree life, she’s parenting both her baby brother and her own mother. Then Uncle Patrick throws her a lifeline, if Claire gives up her baby brother, Patrick will give Claire her old life back. Claire’s oldest friendship is tested beyond measure and new friendships are forged as she settles into her new life. Only time will tell which choices Claire makes and which friends stick around to support her. Nyman hit it out of the park with an emotional read sure to grab the reader from the very first page and not let go until the last.
What a fantastic and engaging YA story this turned out to be. I fell in love with Claire and how string she was. No matter which path she decided on it would be a tough road for her. I wanted to make everything easier for her and lighten her load. The author really created a brilliant story with this book. It is unlike any other YA book I have read which made it more enjoyable. I would highly recommend this book.
A heartwarming and at times heartbreaking YA novel which kept me captivated throughout. The main character, high school senior Claire Jackson is an inspirational teenager who’s life changes dramatically following an unplanned pregnancy, the twist though is that the baby is her mothers, not hers. Claire finds herself taking on the main caring role for her half brother so much so that most people seem to think he is her son. No one seems to know who Harry’s father is and Claire’s mother is sinking deeper and deeper into despair. Things get worse when her mother uses Claire’s college fund to pay for day care for Harry, however when her uncle offers to replenish the fund on the condition that Harry be given up for adoption, Claire has a complicated choice to make. This was a real page turner of a novel and it had me hooked from from start to finish.
