I thought this was a really awesome start to a great series! I loved getting to see Ian and Katherine’s story play out and I am so excited to see more of them and the rest of the vampires, werewolves, and other magical creatures. This was definitely a book I couldn’t put down until the final page. The author has created a magical world where mythical creatures still exist and Atlantis is real. I thought she did a great job of really drawing you into the story and building scenes that you could really visualize. If you love a modern paranormal romance, this is an excellent start! Can’t wait for the rest of the books!

This is an intriguing book that has a unique take on the legend of Atlantis. It was great how the author took a topic well known and turn it into something different. I became invested in this story very quickly and couldn’t wait to see how things would turn out. The story was exciting and full of ‘monsters’ and fantasy. This isn’t the first book that I have read by this author but I think it is my favourite so far. I loved the new perspective and I thought the story itself was well written and engaging. The characters all added even more to the story and I enjoyed how they each played their part. This is a great book and I am looking forward to more of this authors work.

I enjoyed this novel. It is always interesting to read stories with a different perspective on vampires and werewolves. This story definitely had a different take on the origins of these species. The story of Katherine and Ian had adventure with a touch of love. The story caught my attention and kept it to the end. I look forward to reading more about from this series and author.

This was such a wonderful story and would make an amazing book on any child’s bookshelf. It will certainly evoke the imaginations of the children who read it whilst also providing some great opportunities for discussions. The story takes us on a magical fantasy adventure with the main character Russell – the writing for the story was brilliant, such vivid descriptions which made it so easy along with the illustrations to imagine what was happening. A wonderful read and I’m looking forward to seeing what happens in the next book.

This is the first book I have read by this author and I was not disappointed. It is packed full of adventure! A very hard book to put down for sure. It will have you tearing through the pages, craving more and more. Originally I was expecting to not like this book but I will admit that I quit enjoyed it. Don’t judge a book by its cover because it will make you miss out on the magic within. Highly recommend this book.

An interesting, paranormal book full of myths and legends, all centered around Atlantis. What if Atlantis truly was ruled by vampires? The author gave life to a unique book and I found it to be very captivating. I do feel like the story was rushed at times though. I wish there was more to the story.

The title is what really got my attention. I love reading about vampires and the city of Atlantis has always intrigued me. I was not disappointed. I love the fact that Katherine isn’t a pushover and I can definitely relate to her character. The story moves pretty quickly and keeps you hooked from the beginning. There’s plenty of action and some steamy parts. There has to be a second book because I need to know if she finds the stone and many more things. I definitely recommend this book.

Wow what an adventure. First off let me just say I was totally fascinated by the cover so much so I jumped in head first. What I wasn’t expecting was to be pulled into a wonderfully world. Misplaced Faith. My biggest goal for this year was to discover new authors Scott Warren is a new one for me. The cover, while interesting it was the synopsis that made me say “why not”, as in give this book a try. Also, seeing the genre humorous fantasy gave me intrigue as I had never read or seen a book in that genre before. Being a gamer as well as a big bibliophile, I found that the game Neverwinter kept coming to mind while reading this book. Paladins, no matter the race, are great warriors, fighting for their gods and continuously earning their grace and power. A great deal is known about paladins’ great deeds and victories over evil or darkness, but what happens to those that lose their grace, their power. Disappearing from history the author finds a way to fill in the blanks of history in this world. Marluck is a half-orc, who was a great paladin until the day he lost his powers. Lost and searching for purpose the newest oathbreaker finds a group of his fellow ex-holy warriors. An unfair punishment Marluck would do anything to get the “divinity” back that was taken from him, to return to the good sides of the goddesses. Hearing of possibilities to get back what he had lost Marluck will stop at nothing to reach his goals. Will Marluck and his little group find a location in time? Is it truly possible to get his “divinity” back, to return to what he was before his fall? From page one I was glad I took a chance on this author and his world. The way the author not only writes but how he builds up the images in your mind of the world they live in. The good, the bad and the hilarious, I found myself smirking at the details. While the characters are not everyday men and women it was interesting to see how relatable the different races are to everyday real-life humans. I was even able to Invision people in my life as the characters bringing a little extra humor to the story personally. This book kept me engaged from start to finish, entrapped in the story and the mystery of how things would work out and come to an end. I hope to see more books set in this world and I will certainly be going back and looking through the authors’ other works just to read more of this talented author’s work.

The Magic Carousel (The Brass Ring Series Book 1) by K.L. Small. This is the perfect read for a middle school boy or girl. I think boys will relate better because the main character is a boy. I really enjoyed it as a older woman. Its about Russell who is in 5th grade and dreams of being a firefighter but is scared he’s not brave enough. He is bullied at school by one of his former friends and his dad is a raging alcoholic. When his eccentric grandfather has to be walked to the park everyday its Russell’s job. When his grandfather wants to ride the Carousel everyday its embarrassing. When his grandfather convinces him he has a secret ring that will get them to the past with horses and adventure Russell ends up riding the Carousel too. What ensues it all kinds of fun and adventures. This story is so good and it has the lesson that you can be anything you want as long as you try and believe in yourself!

What a great story! I enjoyed all the adventures that Russ goes on with the magical carousel. This is a wonderful story but has a lot of factual information and some learning/growing that takes place. This author has an imagination and I like how she incorporated it into the different horses on the carousel. I myself have often wondered about the history or back story of each horse. That she brought that to life as well as show us how important horses were to our history is just excellent.
This is written for a median age child but I enjoyed it and think it would be a cool book to read to a child and keep an eye out for illustrations of our hero in action. Many discussions could take place after each chapter. I also recommend reading the “Things you might want to know” after reading. It is very interesting and might answer some questions from a child. I especially like the author’s thoughts on horses and her cute photo at the back. It rounds out the whole book nicely.

I didn’t realize this was a spin off series from A Crown of Stones and wish I had read those first. I enjoyed the book, it was well written and full of adventure. I read it on one day and was entirely sucked into this fantasy world, but I felt like there was inside knowledge that I lacked about the characters.

Ian Troy and Jarryd Kane have left the land of Mirra-kelan, a land finally at peace after centuries of war and disputes and Ian in his usual brave, but rash way has had a bog and in it and in the process taken on a burden for all of his race and after this deed, he is wanting a fresh start and so he and Jarryd head out to see to retrace the steps of Ian’s Shinree ancestors, the first port of call are the Wandering Isles, a place renowned for strong spirits, but although they have a direction to head in, they have no idea where the Isles are, or if they will find them, what they will find there. So after months at sea, something unexpected happens and both Ian and Jarryd find themselves separated and unable to find each other, on what appears to be a series of deserted and very rocky islands, there also appears to be no life there either, instead it is abandoned.
As the two friends try to navigate this seemingly endless expanse of land, they encounter and unknowingly enter a trade with those who do reside there, it appears that these islands were not as abandoned as first believed and so they pair enter into trials the like they have never seen or experienced before and Jarryd becomes lost in them, however, Ian is extremely wary and suspicious of the beings he encounters and what their end goal is. While completing these trials, Ian comes up against his past, present and possible futures as magic, memories and sinister motives come together to bring endless tortures and scenarios together in a creatively devastating way.
As these trials are worked through and the different torments pass, Ian comes to the realisation that the only way off of these islands is to play this despicable game and find Jarryd in the process, but will these beings allow him to do that, or will he lose this game and everything he is playing for? First book in the Atlantis series, Vampires of Atlantis by Courtney Davis.
This book is about a mission and when Ian breaks topside he intends to complete that mission that night in hopes to be back home before sunrise, and things take a drastic but thrilling turn.
This storyline is about the course of a week maybe two and projects Ian and his love interests point of views.
This was definitely a gem, I went into this book with no expectations. At first I didn’t know what to think of it until everything started to fall in to place. The character building was there, and the world building was straight cut and to the point which I enjoyed which made getting to the good stuff that much faster.
Courtney Davis did a phenomenal job, she took a paranormal genre with delicate balance and made it more. It wasn’t just a book solely attached to one supernatural/ folklore/ mythic species but multiple which was refreshing.
This paranormal romance will have you breathing rapidly, maybe a little erratic with hair pulling, but also loving every bit of it. I would definitely recommend this book and I look forward to more this author has to offer.

I really enjoyed this middle grades adventure book. It was fun to meet Russell and his Grandpa. Rusty learns many lessons throughout this story = the importance of his grandpa, friendships and trust. When Grandpa takes Rusty on his first ride on the carousel, Rusty learns why his Grandpa loves to visit the carousel every day. Rusty continues to visit the carousel after his Grandpa has a stroke – he searches for his lead horse and finds Jimmy = the one that takes him to the most important time period of all.

This is the first book that I have read from this author and she blew me away. I loved fairy tales as I was a kid and this brought me right back. I was so excited to read this that I started immediately after I got the book. I could not put this book down until the end and I can’t wait to see what she will write next.
A girl in New Mexico is very jealous of something that she can’t have so what she does is takes it for herself. A boy in the Rocky Mountains is watching a girl but what do they have in common, fairytales. The girl and boy downs realize it but they are both in their own fairy tale. I enjoyed this novel, following Ian and Jarryd as they continue on their journey together. I don’t want to give away too much of the storyline, but I like how the story dives into the affects our past makes on our future. Especially when surviving so much, decisions made and the things we have done are never far from our thoughts. Some haunt us forever. Ian and Jarryd have a special bond that tightens their relationship even more and works to help them help each other, while dealing with their own demons. Great read – now on to the next one!

She gets seperated from her pack. And at the end they are able to track wolf girl’s pack and reunite them together. Bones of the soul- one of the best takes of Pinocchio. Nazar is slowing freezing because of his disease. Doctors said by 18 he would no longer be. Nazar only painted people he had some connection to. At the end how two of his muses meet when Nazar pass and connecting everyone together. It was beautiful. This book isn’t what I expected at first. It was a little slow in the beginning but as the story went on it did pick up the pace quite a bit. The characters are very well-developed and they complement each other really well. I like how the characters are misfits and each has their own strengths and how their personalities are unique to their person. Also, the journey the group is on is not what I expected either, it’s very intriguing.

This is the first book in the Atlantis series, on the shorter side but interesting nonetheless. The genre is right up my alley, paranormal romances – throw them all at me!
Firstly, I absolutely loved the concept and plot – using Atlantis as a prison for supernatural creatures! It was a brilliant idea and the story behind it all was great! However, having said that, there were times that I felt there was something lacking. This doesn’t mean that I didn’t enjoy this book, because I did, but I think it would have been better with more in-depth character and world building/background. I feel that if the book was a little longer this may have come together naturally but overall, it’s still very enjoyable and I’m hoping these gaps will be addressed in future books.
The author’s writing style flows nicely and is clear which made falling into the story that much easier.
I loved the plot and this was well-written, despite the issues I had with it, and this series shows potential to enter my favourites. I look forward to the next book and will look out for more from this author in the meantime!

I thoroughly enjoyed this collection of magic infused fairy tales. Each story is a noir adventure uniquely written and keeps the pages turning. The effort of rewriting the stories so they have their own personality instead of being a standard retelling. The creative nature of these modern stories is what you’ve been looking for!

When Magic Calls is a collection of fairy tales that were modernized. I enjoyed most of them, some were exciting, some were boring. To each their own. The author did an amazing job delving into old tales and turning them into something more relatable.
My favorite story was ‘Borrowed Skin, Borrowed Year”. It was about a girl, named Cassidy, who found out her boyfriend was cheating on her and all her friends weren’t good friends. There was a tradition she learned from her grandmother to open the front and back door on New Years to let the old year exit and the new year enter. After doing so, Cassidy met a strange naked man injured on the beach. She brought the man home and this started a year of friendship. It is hinted throughout the story that the man is a selkie.
There are also tales of sirens, changelings, human/wolf hybrid, and so much more. There is a tale for everyone!

I didn’t know what to expect when I picked this one up, but it really blew us away! The cover pulled me in as it is just beautiful, and the synopsis painted a cool picture as well. I read this with my middle schooler, and we were pleasantly surprised to see the different kinds of fairy tales that we aren’t accustomed to. I loved that each story we read felt like jumping into a completely different world. Even though this is aimed towards a teenage audience, I thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend to anyone that likes a collection of creative folklore!

I love short stories! This is an awesome set of short stories, but I would have to say my favorite was the last one called Bones of the Soul. I was nowhere near ready for it to end the way that it did. This set is not what I was expecting, but instead it was so much more! These otherworldly tales roped me into Berve’s imagination and let me tell you, I was not fighting to get back out!

I really enjoyed this story. The story has so many creatures to keep my imagination overflowing.
Katherine is a human who works at a museum cataloging artifacts. When a monster escapes from Altantis to the human world, she is attacked and she has no idea why. She wakes to Ian the (King) of Altantis who has healed her as much as he could.
He finds himself extremely drawn to her and is irrationally feeling he can never let her go. The feeling to protect and possess her is very strong. Katerine is a strong stubborn woman and won’t put up with being told what to do. Ian will learn this lesson the hard way as they both try to figure out what is so special about an artifact the beast from Atlantis is trying to find.
The story will keep you glued to the pages to find out how the twists and turns are all resolved.

Life changes drastically when his grandfather comes to life with him and his family. When Russell’s grandfather ends up in the hospital he is given a precious item by his grandfather. Russell takes magical journeys that will keep young readers interested and entertained as well as gain the confidence they may need as well.
