I can not wait to see what comes next! I have read many high school bully romances and none of them have left me craving more as much as this book has. I already have a feeling about what could transpire between Riley, Cole and Damon. I have a strong feeling the three are going to be in a strong desire and hate relationship at first and I can’t wait to see it all unfold.

  1. Book 1 was Amazing! Book 2 was Amazing x2! Can’t wait to read Book 3.
I’ve gotta say I fell in love with Austin in book 1. Of course I had to read book 2 and it definitely didn’t disappoint.
The chemistry between Austin & Casey is magnetic. Austin has been drawn to her since book 1 but he allows Mavis to cloud his judgement.
I love how the author has several love stories going at once. So we get to see a continuation of book 1, of course we get Austin & Casey’s story, and a look at what book 3 will be about with Lauren.
Overall a great read. Super steamy. I couldn’t put it down.

Half-Pint Porky is absolutely adorable and fun. As with anything exciting you wait for she’s impatient for pirate school because it’s her first time at big kid pirate school plus her siblings will be there. Unable to wait to go, but frightened when it’s time Half-Pint Porky has a lot to learn.
Cute story made to teach valuable lessons to our own little Porkys.
A story that teaches kids in the most positive abs fun way. Big lessons in learning to be patient, and being confidence.

Beautiful illustrations and hilarious pirate banter will have any kid ready to read.

If you are like me and love a detailed story then this book of for you. The author doesn’t skip over even the smallest of details making the picture form that much more clearly. This cute (yes, I know cute is an interesting word to use to describe crime) mystery is full of drama, intrigue, fun and charm. This was my first book by this author and they did not disappoint. I felt the both the storyline and the characters were very well developed and complementary toward each other. While this was a fairly quick read I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Savage Start is the prequel to the Hidden Valley Elite series and debut novel by Isla Vaughn. It is a very short (50pgs) story that gives a very small taste of what to expect from the rest of the series. It made for an intriguing, quick and easy read. I read it in well under an hour.
This is a New Adult (High School) bully romance, although there was very little in the way of romance, bullying, or really much else- as this basically just lays the ground-work for the next instalment/s, giving cause as to why the bullying/enemies to lovers/ angst/ and emotion aspect of the story arises- which I imagine will come in the next instalment/s.
The ‘Elites’ are the top of the food chain at the Hidden Valley Elite high school. They are brothers Cole and Damon and their cousins, twin brothers Phoenix and Shane. They are their high schools football stars and every girls wet dream- and they know it. I guess as the series goes on, each of the elites will get their own book/s. This prequel sets us up for Cole and Riley’s story, which is set to continue in the next TWO books- “Savage Lies” (Book #1) and “Savage Truth” (Book #2).
This book depicts a toxic family environment, with parental conflict/cheating/yelling matches etc- as well as suicide- darker topics- so this may be triggering for some readers.
It ends on a cliffhanger and the story continues in the next book.
Happy Reading…

Thank you, Isla Vaughn!

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This quick read gave just enough information for me to be interested in reading the next book in the series in order to find out what happens.
Riley and her mother move from town to town…conning their way to survive. They have recently arrived in Santa Monica and her mom promises her that this time will be different. Feeling wary of her mother’s promises, Riley finds herself gathering information and storing it away…just in case. However, a kiss from a stranger puts a wrench in her plans.
Cole is caught between enjoying his life as a junior in high school and taking care of his mother’s emotional well-being. He often finds himself comforting his mother while his father is out of town. While at a party, he finds a stranger wandering around…and catches her stealing. Who is this stranger?
This story was easy to read in one sitting. The reader gets some good back story and character development. It leaves you with lots of questions that, presumably, will be answered and addressed in the series. Both of these characters seems to have a lot more going on than they let the world see…and I am intrigued as to how their stories will progress!

Savage Start: A High School Bully Romance: Hidden Valley Elite PrequelSavage Start: A High School Bully Romance: Hidden Valley Elite Prequel by Isla Vaughn
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the first book I have read by Isla Vaughn and though it was very short, being the prequel of a new series, I am hooked. It only took me about 2 hours or so to finish. The world the author creates is a very realistic one, the characters feel raw and real in their reactions to things. With a dual perspective of Riley and Cole, Savage Start sets off a whirlwind to come.
Riley is new to Santa Monica, along with her mother they have been running from city to city, from character to character since Riley was a year old. Always running from her father never safe until now, or so her mother claims. Cole is a local Elite of Hidden Valley Academy, along with his younger brother and two cousins. Cole’s life seems perfect on the surface, but the façade hides his crumbling family led by his father’s indiscretions. New to the city and a day of travel Riley finds herself walking on the beach before coming up on a house party. Allowing herself a few moments to do a “normal” teen activity she sneaks inside only to get caught stealing. The mystery man disarms her defenses stealing an epic kiss before she flees, but every moment her mind is consumed with fantasies of the kiss and the first guy to ever make her feel the dagger of desire.
Is Riley and her mother finally safe? Will the promises she makes come true? Will Cole’s brother ever learn the truth behind their mother’s mental decline? The author is beyond amazing, and I have already got my calendar marked for the release of book 1 in Riley and Cole duet, Savage Lies, March 30th, 2023, I can’t wait to read more about these characters and see where their story leads. The second book Savage Truth, April 27th, 2023, is the conclusion of Riley and Cole’s story with a happy ever after. I can’t wait to go on their journey with them.

Absolution by Anise Storm & Taylor L. Ray – Review by Beverly Finnie

AbsolutionAbsolution by Anise Storm
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

What a twisted story! But let me tell you how much I loved it!! I read it straight through and couldn’t put it down. There’s a lot going on in Absolution with some twists and turns. Especially emotional ones. The author doesn’t let up at all. Putting the reader through the ringer. At the same time making you fall in love with the characters as well. I figured the two big twists out before reveal but it was worth the mystery and suspense of it all.
If you don’t mind spice and you can look past it to get to the meat of the story, you’ll be hooked. The spice is just an added bonus. You’ll be the one trying to solve the mystery and get closure. You’ll be emotionally invested that you will need to finish. That you will want to know if you’re right or wrong. It’s the challenge of figuring out the puzzle that keeps one glued to the pages.
Whitney has an uncanny resemblance to Dominic’s ex-girlfriend Juliana. So uncanny he thinks she’s here back to torment him. Her family put him through the ringer when she disappeared and now he was prepared to get his revenge. Which means she must be here to disrupt his plans. It’s too much of a coincidence.
Whitney on the other hand, at Juliana’s insistence, is the only one who will be able to bring him closure. It’s just a matter of how? Especially when Dominic loathes her, for someone he believes she is.
I drew a lot of comparisons when reading this story. For one spicy romance, which meets Count of Monte Cristo revenge, sprinkled in with a supernatural element. If that does intrigue you, I don’t know what will.
My parting words for anyone who comes across this book. READ IT! And TRUST me when I say, you won’t be disappointed.

This was a really good read! I was pleasantly surprised while reading this, not only because I wasn’t sure what to expect but also because this was a short novella, at only 55 pages. For only 55 pages this author packed a lot of story and content in this novella! This left off on a cliff hanger and there might be a TW for death/suicide if that is a trigger for anyone. But the ending and just the story in general has left me very eager to read the first book in this series! Kudos to the author for a great lead-up story!

My kids and I ( 6 and 8 years old) really enjoy reading books by Lois Wickstrom. Bees in Loretta’s Bonnet was a great addition to our kindle collection. I always enjoy learning from this author in the form of a fun storyline. Tonight’s theme was obviously bees. While it was great for our home library, I think it would be a good addition to any elementary school class as well. I really enjoyed the illustrations too but my FAVORITE part is the activity included after the story itself.

My heart broke for Lily when she found out about her mothers lies, not that I will say any more about that because I don’t want to ruin anything for anyone still to read the book yet. My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is a sweet love story that doesn’t start out on the most promising path. Rhia is determined to punish the prince for taking her chance at choosing for herself whom she will marry and Emerys is there to show his father, the king, that he isn’t worthless. After many hurt feelings, and misunderstandings they find that they aren’t quite as different as they thought they were.
I found myself wanting to finish it all in one sitting as Rhia and Emerys figured things out the hard way and then together. You may not look at snails and mud the same way after this.
My favorite little tidbit was the apology box, I may just have to use this the next time I need to apologize!
If you are a fan of strong women learning to not carry the burden alone, and finding strength and comfort in unlikely places this is the story for you.

I was so totally hooked on this fantastic book right from the start that I literally couldn’t put it down so I stayed up until 2am to finish it! LOL
Adam Tron and Cristy Valor are fantastic characters full of heart and plenty of Sass. In fact I loved all the characters in this book even the ones who annoyed me! Adam and Cristys connection is immediate and full of steam. Both are shocked with how much they feel for each other and they both in their own way need to come to terms with that. Add in the extra pressures of celebrity and it makes for a very entertaining read.
Once again I have found a fantastic, very talented author part way through a series so I will definitely be finding all the rest of the books in the series and reading them ASAP!! See I told you I am totally hooked and can’t wait for more.

I enjoyed reading this romance story, it has kind of a darkness to it as well. This is still a newer author for me which I have enjoyed reading. I found this book to be engaging and hard to put down. It is a well written story where the author brought the story to life by using their writing skills and details. It is a story that I had no problems connecting with the characters and the reality part of it. This is a fast paced story that pulled me in from the start. The characters brought so much to the story which made it easy to read. There is great growth of characters as well as their chemistry. I really enjoyed watching the romance between them. This is a great story that I highly recommend.

A prequel that definitely got my attention and now I can’t wait for the series

Riley is a loner, moved around her whole life trying to blend in and con people with her mother to make ends meet finds herself in an elite neighborhood where she most certainly does not blend in.
While out for a stroll in her new town she bumps into Cole who is somehow flipping on every desire for Riley and she Didn’t even know his name.
Cole ever the diligent son is always there for his mom because his father is a giant POS and this causes quite the tension in his household.

As these two start to gravitate in one another’s orbit and you can start to feel the chemistry that will undoubtedly burn the next time they meet you are left on an cliffhanger that makes your jaw drop … Looks like the series comes out in March I can’t wait !

Beware of the trigger warnings.

Anise Storm & Taylor L. Ray have collaborated again to give us another dark, dark tale. And what a tale it is. The story is a complex one where not everything is as it seems. With lies and secrets, struggles and suspense, emotions run high.
It is an interesting premise with paranormal elements. I wanted to be wowed but I wasn’t. I liked this story but didn’t love it. It has a lot of potential to be a great story but didn’t make the mark for me. There is a lot of unnecessary information/details and a lot of repetition which interferes with the flow of the story. There are twists and turns some you don’t see but others you do.
You will definitely question Dominic and his ways. He is domineering, rude, crude and ruthless and at times I wanted to do away with him but in others I wanted to hug him. The other characters were interesting but the whole ghost thing needed much more development and narrative as far as the sudden “gift”.
There is much more to the journey than what they realise. He is cruel and out for revenge and nothing else matters. She just wants to deliver a message.
There are elements of Kink and BSDM, death and doppelgängers, ghosts and murder, sex trafficking and much more.
This is an emotional read with a lot going on.

WARNING: there is violence and MM adult sexual situations.
The Man In Black is definitely an intriguing historical MM thriller/mystery. Imagine a brutal and bloody Wild West. Imagine questioning your sexuality at that time and imagine a MM relationship that if exposed is just as deadly.
It is a complex adventure and quite a long story but it keeps you interested so the pages fly by. There is violence and foul language but that is what you expect from deadly outlaw gangs who are in the crossfires. It is a dark tale that is full of action and the intensity is strong. It is a tale that is raw and gritty. There is a lot of characters to keep track of throughout and the narrative is cleverly written and an interesting way of telling a tale that is intricately woven together.
ON top of all that there is mysterious killings on top of daily grind and who is the very mysterious Man In Black.
You will have to read it to find out how it all comes together.

WOW!! Dayumn!!!! How could so much happen in 50ish short pages? We got to meet most of the main characters of the series. There was a brief but intense encounter between Cole and Riley. There was a heart-wrenching scene for Cole and Damon. Well, I meeeaaaaannnnn…..There was so much for Damon. He had to realize the father he idolized was the villain after all. Can’t wait to see how Damon grows and changes. There are sooooo many questions left unanswered. Is the woman at the conference Riley’s mom? What is up with the long lost father that they had to flee and hide out all these years? Where does the mysterious uncle fit in? Can Riley change her ways?

I can’t wait for the next one in the series to be released! They won’t get here fast enough! I have to find the perfect shelf for this series because I have a feeling it is going to singe everything around it!!! So hooked and left waiting and wanting more!!

Hot For Me is the fourth instalment in the Balefire series however I was already half way through before I realised. Now I have to go back and start at the beginning although it can be read as a standalone. It is an erotic contemporary adult rock romance story. The series focus’ on each member of the band Balefire and this is Adam and Christy’s story.
The story is told in dual POV and truly exposes who the characters are. There are secondary characters that help move the story along some you will like some not so much, some with good intensions some without. It is erotic, sensuous, seductive, passionate and intense coming together that may just ruin them.
Adam can’t help but fall for her even though she has secrets but there are those who want to keep them apart.
Christy’s past is about to be exposed. A past that hides a secret she does not want to get out. A past that she works hard to stay buried and one that has haunted her for years.
What will it be that tears them apart? Her secrets or those who you thought you could trust?

There is always a staple of high school and that is a bully and the popular kids. Savage Start is an enemies-to-lovers, new adult sports bully romance. It is a very extremely short read at 55 pages. It is a prequel where it all began. Yes there is a cliff-hanger ending but it continues with Savage Lies where Riley and Cole’s story is told and then it continues with Savage Truth and more.
This is not your ordinary romance story it is deliciously dark and scandalous that pulls you in. It is intense and intriguing and hard to leave aside to go to work. There is drama and angst, jealousy and deep-seated lies and did I mention bullying? And let’s not forget the hatred that reins. But for all that they’re the deadly Elite. They’re the Academy’s football stars. The privileged boys who rule on and off the ground. Those who play to win and anyone who stands in their way is taken down. You do not want to be on their radar because revenge is sweet. They are playing a dangerous game where lies and lives are at stake.
There are characters you will like but there are those who you just want to rip to pieces.
I look forward to delving into more.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Savage Start by author Isla Vaughn is the prequel story to the Hidden Valley Elite series. It features Riley, a teenager who is constantly on the run with her mother. They never can get too comfortable anywhere before it’s time to pack up what little they have and take off again. But there’s a boy she is swept away by and she has to know more about him. The handsomely popular Cole is often finding himself having to nurture his mother’s mental health while his dad is constantly gone for business conferences and working late hours. Will he find time to try to bump into the girl that comes along with blurry memories of a party, but definitely a kiss he can’t forget?

While the book is not even remotely lengthy, it certainly packed a punch and definitely has left me wondering what is yet to come. I felt like the bouncing back between Riley and Cole’s thoughts worked out very well and didn’t become confusing. I am definitely interested in seeing what comes next with Riley and Cole.

This story is another classic Benoit and Dayne story. Like the second book, this one did not seem like a series to me. Which is no complaint, I like my books to be free of the need for them to be in order. She perfectly restated who everyone was but still gives bits to the past books. This storyline is my favorite out of all three she has made in the Benoit and Dayne line. The twists were successful in the suspense of this book. Will you find out the answer before someone else is hurt? Is the killer someone they know? You successfully find out in the reading of Straight For the Kill.

Isla Vaughn starts Savage Start out very well. The story pulls you in and you get involved in the character’s life and waiting for more. It did have some predictable aspects but was well written allowing you to continue on despite. Only complaint, if you could call it one, is it was over before it really got involved. Or maybe I read it too fast either way, would definitely read again and be sure I have the rest of the series handy to complete it all in one sitting. Despite the length, I am left wanting more.
