What a fun and unique prequel! With only sixty-six pages this paranormal romance flew by. Acheron and Errapel deserve the happiest of ever afters and I hope Naomi Valkyrie expands on this intriguing world she’s created! Even though the book is short she includes tons of details and vivid imagery in her writing! I would love to and need to know more about Valkyrie’s amazing world!
This is a great original paranormal romance. This authors knows how to have the perfect blend of paranormal, action, suspense and romance. If you do not like M/M romance then you may not like it but if you read it as a book and put aside your feelings towards that kind of thing it’s a great book.
I really enjoyed this shifter story by Valkyrie. The short story is well written, with characters who keep you wanting to see what will be on the next page. I really enjoyed this storyline. I would recommend this book to others.

This book was a very unique read about fated mates and the path that they had to take to be together. What a wonderful story of a woman’s passing, and the final act of kindness that she was able to bring about as her dying wish. The fact that this story contains jackals, vultures, and other shapeshifters was so cool, I really enjoyed reading this short story. This had such a great moral to the story that no matter how different people may be, what truly matters is that we stand up for what we believe in, be a part of the change for good, and follow our hearts wherever they may lead us. If you like to read paranormal romances, I highly recommend reading this short story by the amazing Naomi Valkyrie. She never disappoints with her unique style of writing intriguing stories that interest you right up to the last page. Happy reading my friends, until next time! @Brandy Rymer 09/2024

Acheron is a Vulture Shifter, an outcast that has been shunned by other shifters for touching the dead. Someone has to though, right? He has been feeling restless as of late but has the opportunity to travel to the town of Mandara at the request of a dying soul. There he meets Clarissa, the dying soul that requested his presence, and Errapel who happens to be his mate. Acheron follows the rules and one of the major ones is that he should never take a mate. How can fate have played such a cruel joke? Will Acheron and Errapel get a happily ever after? This was a quick read that can be read in about 30 minutes. I have read a few other books by this author, even under another pen name, and they were all good. I enjoy the writing style and how she described these characters. There was a lot packed into roughly 60 pages and I wanted more once it ended. I will hold out hope for a longer version.
Acheron is a vulture shifter and he is going to the city on a mission but he must be careful as his kind is not wanted in the city. Yet Acheron feels a pull to the city that he cannot ignore. When Acheron meets Errapel he realizes just what has called to him. This is an interesting book that dealt with different shifters than I am used to. I found the journey that Acheron and Errapel go on an engaging read. The two are good together and it was nice to see the way their bond builds. It was nice to be along for the ride as the two decide if they are going to grab and hold on to what they could have or let it slip through their fingers. Their story is a quick read that pulls you into the world and its characters leaving you wanting to return to this world for more from these characters.
Fate, Frankincense, & Funerals by Naomi Valkerie is a short but interesting MM fantasy romance. While a quick read, I enjoyed the twists and the unique Shifter types you don’t see often! I do wish there was more, as several things intrigued me about Acheron, Errapel, and Carissa, as well as the way their world reacted to them. I can’t ever seem to put down Naomi’s books, and always look forward to seeing more from her!
Fate, Frankincense & Funerals by Naomi Valkyrie. I love Naomi Valkyrie so I knew this book would be great and I was not wrong! Its the story of Acheron a vulture shifter who feels a very strong pull to the city that he’s forbidden to go to. When he gets there he realizes its Errapal. Errapal is a nurse to the dying and I know I’ve been sent to help him. My attraction to Errapal is out of this world and I can’t deny it even though Vulture Shifters are forbidden to take a mate. As they spend more and more time together Acheron is more in love with Errapal than ever. Can they fight society and win to be able to be together? This is a great Paranormal romance that is steamy as can be. Its also very short so if you are like me you will fly through it in no time! Read this amazing story to find out what happen!
Fate, Frankincense and Funerals by Naomi Valkyrie Archeron is the main character of the story. He is a vulture shifter who according to the rules of their society must never choose a mate or life partner. He is sent to help someone transition to death. This is what he is born to do. He takes the job despite the fact that it’s breaking All the rules, and leaving the area that he’s meant to stay in. When he gets there he meets her nurse (Errapel). Together they navigate this transition. This is a love story and also a story of fighting your own dreams. This story does have minor mention of m/m physical relations. It’s not prominent as the main story is about their love for one another. It flows nicely and the characters are developed well for the most part. It does leave enough open to where there could be a sequel. Which could give some questions if there is no sequel. The story went much quicker than I thought it would go and before I knew it I had finished it. Overall, I enjoyed the story and the way that I was written. It was very easy to read. Would enjoy reading the sequels if they are written.

Another fantastic read from this author!! This is a short stand alone book, but I’m hoping she will continue on with this story and these characters. There are so many more ways to extend these characters, their beliefs, their way of life, and a lot of the ways and why’s of the different characters. This is an M/M romance that’s paranormal with werewolves and shifters and so much more. I found myself wanting to know more about the different rituals surrounding this book. So, so good!!

Another great book by Naomi Valkyrie. My only complaint is I wanted more story, more explanation of why things were the way they were. I really enjoy the way this author writes. I really liked Acheron and was hoping to learn more about vulture shifters and their roles. Normally this author doesn’t write too steamy of love scenes, but I was glad she went a little more in that direction this time. As always, I highly recommend this book and any book from this author.
I love finding books with shifters that aren’t the usual wolf and bear. This one has vultures, jackals and bats. I thought it was interesting that the vultures help send souls over into underworld. I would love to know more about the shifters and how their world works since vultures really can’t leave their city and I’m not sure if it’s all shifters or only that no one can marry a jackal and vulture. It’s all interesting. The story also includes romance and a little spice. I enjoyed the short story and am now trying to find the series to learn more about the world.
This author… I am obsessed with her books. I cannot get enough of them. She has a way of putting an entire world in a short book. This one is no different. A part of me was like wait, I need more! But it didn’t leave me feeling like I was missing anything. I would probably still feel that way if she wrote a book that was 700 pages long. Her books are cozy. Not really like a cozy, fireplace, leaf vibe. More like a witchy, supernatural, potions and magic kind of cozy, if that makes sense. On to the actual story here. This story has shifters. Not the usual wolves though. There is nothing usual about this author’s stories. In this one, we have a few different ones. Including the main character – a vulture shifter. Acheron, leaves his safe place to follow a “call within”. Why did he feel this? Was it a mistake to follow this pull? Can he get his happy ending? Read to find out! Seriously, you need to read.
From the second I laid eyes on this beautifully captivating cover, my curiosity piqued. As soon as I realized who the author was, I knew I had to have it in my hands! This author has a remarkable ability to weave intricate tales that always draws me in, and each book feels like a journey into a gorgeously crafted world. This one is no exception!
Although this is a shorter read, it is masterfully filled with rich detail and depth. It’s beyond my wildest comprehension how she manages to create such an immersive experience without losing any momentum! The story flows seamlessly with each chapter unfolding at a natural pace that keeps you engaged from start to finish. I fell hopelessly in love with the characters and felt invested in them right away. The chemistry sizzles and there are twists that I didn’t see coming. I don’t want to give anything away and spoil the experience for anyone! I wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone looking for a story that combines fantasy with heartfelt emotion.
Fate, Frankincense and Funerals tells the tale of shifters, 2 of which are considered outcast because they touch death and are forbidden to leave their territory or take a mate.
Acheron meets his mate on a death call, where he writes the dyings life stories and a dying wish, and helps prepare them to the afterlife. His mate is a hare, and he was told by the dying to accept the mate bond to end the unjust separation of the vultures and jackal shifters.
The dying, Cassie, also has a secret that involves the highest Jackal shifter.
The story is original. It’s not like any other stories I have read which is one of the reasons I love Naomi’s books. Her stories are always original and descriptive. This one was a short story about forbidden love. The divisiveness and is relatable to real life. It does have some graphic mature parts but it is a really sweet story. It did keep me engaged and wanting to read the rest of the series.
This isn’t the first book I have read by this author and I am finding that I am always blown away with how well written her books are. This is a shifter book that doesn’t center-around the normal everyday shifters. This book has jackals, bats, and vultures. These are not in the norm of any shifter books I have read. There is also a twist by it being M/M. I am not as well versed in reading M/M but this book did not disappoint with that aspect at all. There is some spice to this book which just adds to the thrill of turning the pages. This books perfectly pieced together and the words just flow off the pages allowing you to visualize everything that is going on in the book. I love the character development that happens in this book. There is a struggle with the circumstances of the shifters in this book that each of the characters must overcome. That made this book a super quick read for me because I was dying to know what happened and I couldn’t put it down until it was finished. I am constantly trying to solve what is happening before I actually get there in the books that I read. I found myself not able to predict what was going to happen which makes this book even more special. Reviewed by: @bbohls
I always enjoy reading books written by this author. She creates interesting worlds and characters that are relatable and make the story interesting – like Vulture and Jackal shifters. This book is a shorter story filled with some loneliness, angst, and romance. It’s an easy read that you won’t want to put down even after you realize the story is finished. This kind of story might not be what you’re used to but the author’s imagination and writing style will connect with you in ways you don’t expect.
While this is not a book I usually read, it captured me from the beginning and I couldn’t put it down. It is a very short and quick read, and left me wanting more. Highly recommend reading!
This was an amazing read. For it being a short story and only being 57 pages long, I wasn’t expecting much. I was proven wrong! Naomi put so much in these short pages, it felt like I was reading a fairly large novel! It was well paced and I quickly found myself immersed in the story. The one thing that I loved about this story was that the main animal focus was a vulture, not your typical wolf shifter story. This story also didn’t have your typical “aplha hear me roar” type trope. Vultures aren’t supposed to have mates in this world. It’s actually forbidden because of them guiding those who have been touched by death. I’m not too into m/m stories, but this was beautifully well done m/m romance! I will for sure be passing this along to my LGBTQ friends!

Acheron – Vulture shifter – Shunned from society because he touches the dead…
Kharon, the only place I’m safe, is in my rearview mirror as I take the treacherous journey to Mandara.
I know it’s dangerous, but I have to go. Something is pulling me to the city. When I get there, I’m surprised to discover it’s a person – Errapel, nurse to the dying soul I’ve been sent to assist. He’s a breath of fresh air to my stagnant life, but the law says vulture shifters are forbidden from taking a mate.
Is there anything that can keep us together? Maybe, but I have no idea what it could be. Society is a difficult thing to fight. Can a vulture shifter outcast, and a sweet hare shifter nurse, beat the odds, or will the archaic laws tear them apart?
Naomi Valkyrie, often called a Firebrand Provocateur, brings her unique Autistic perspectives and curiosities to life by weaving tales of deep connection, mystery, and romance. She is inspired by being able to spontaneously create a thought that takes on a life of its own, opening up new adventures for her readers.
The Paranormal Romance and Urban Fantasy realms are particular areas of interest for Naomi as they allow for the vast exploration of magic, adventure, and the impossible while creating diverse characters that her readers connect with on an emotional level.
When she isn’t attending to familial connections, Naomi loves a dark, comfy reading space surrounded by the symbolism of her spiritual archetypes and her daemon/familiars, while she sips her tea and immerses herself in imagination.
Even though I am usually not a short story reader, when I come across a book by Naomi Valkyrie I am always going to pick it up and read it. She is just one of those authors for me.
Fate, Frankincense & Funerals is a short read (yes I wish it was a longer story but that is just because I’m a greedy gus! LOL) that will hold you captivated from start to finish. Its fires your imagination and draws you in with intense characters and a vivid world created by this amazingly talented author.
