Ghost Talker (Madame Chalamet Ghost Mysteries Book 1) by Byrd Nash – Review by Julie Johnson

Ghost Talker (Madame Chalamet Ghost Mysteries #1)Ghost Talker by Byrd Nash
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

When the opening line of the book reads “Dead bodies interrupted my dessert course” the book can’t be anything but good!

Elinor Chalamet is a “ghost talker” and she’s been trying to solve her father’s death for many years. When a local incident arises where a ghost talker might be helpful, she’s summoned and finds herself at the Duke’s residence…held prisoner. The Duke keeps getting in her way and preventing her from doing her due diligence with these ghosts. The Duke is also relying on Elinor’s knowledge of precious gems to help him find a missing piece of the royal gems. Will the Duke move out of the way and allow Elinor to do what she does best?

This was a short little novella that I understand is part of a 6 book series. I look forward to reading more of Elinor’s adventures and seeing where the love interest goes.

This is the first book in this series. It was a quick, easy read. The story had a good flow and great characters. The one thing I feel could have been expanded on a little more is the Morpheus Society. It’s mentioned, but you don’t really get a feel for it. Although, it may be expanded upon in future books.
Overall, great read!

Personally, I love paranormal but then again, I also believe in the things that go bump in the night.

Byrd Nash is brilliant at creating this story!

Madame Chalamet is a Medium of sorts but calls herself a Ghost Talker. She is able to help solve a murder and some other interesting goings ons within the story.

I really like how the story is placed ‘way back when’ but written in modern English so that we can actually understand it.

This novella is book one in a series of six books, and the reader is introduced to, Madame Elinor Chalamet, who is a ‘Ghost Talker’. Elinor was trained as a medium by the elite Morpheus Society, and she now uses her skills to help the police when needed. However, her main goal is hunting for her father’s killer. The police ask for Elinor’s help when a dead body is found in the canal, and she would succeed in solving the mystery if Tristan Fontaine, duke de Archambeau, wasn’t interfering and getting in her way. Told from Elinor’s POV, the storyline flowed well and the intriguing plot had me hooked from start to finish. Elinor is a great main character who brings the story together, and the descriptive narrative brings the setting to life. This gaslamp story has a mix of fantasy, ghosts, mystery, drama, and a slow burn romance. I look forward to carrying on Elinor’s adventures in the next novella!

This is the first book in the Madame Chalmet Ghost Mysteries series. I really enjoyed this story it was a quick read but the story was gripping and so good I read it in one sitting. The author does an amazing job with the characters and I love Elinor Chalamet. She is such a strong and fiesty character. She knows her skills and what she’s good at and she will stand up to anyone who trys to tell her otherwise.

Elinor has helped police before with murder cases. Her ability to speak with the dead and helped them solve cases in the past. So when she is asked to come talk to someone pulled out of the river she willingly accepts. What she doesn’t expect it to meet  if Tristan Fontaine, duke de Archambeau.
Tristan is involved because the person has some link to the royal family. Now Elinor has to try and solve this case while not allowing Tristan to get in her way but because of the situation and who this person is Tristan is determined to work along side Elinor and make sure the secrets stay with her.

As they work closer together it’s not just the mystery of the case they are solving. As time progresses feelings start to emerge that neither of them were expecting.
Will they be able to find the killer before they strike again? Can Elinor keep her focus to find the killer or will Tristan because too much of a distraction.

This is an action packed paranormal romance and I can’t wait to read the next in the series.

This book grabbed me from the first line and wouldn’t let go! Ghost Talker by Byrd Nash is a perfect spooky mystery to curl up with, but beware, you won’t be able to put it down! The early 1900’s esque setting is vivid and beautiful and really works to set the perfect mood. I absolutely loved Elinor Chalamet’s Character, her skills, and her natural inquisitiveness. I also loved the scenes between her and the Duke of Archambeau, Tristan Fontaine, because they play off of each other really well and their relationship feels natural. Elinor and Tristan’s story is scary and gripping, with amazing twists and turns. Byrd Nash creates a truly satisfying ghost story that was a delight to read! I cannot wait to see what their next mystery is!

This was a great book! I love the mix between the time-period piece and the supernatural! Elinor is a wonderful character that uses not only her supernatural skill set but also her investigative skills to help those who are grieving. And then add to it some mythical creatures and you really have a story. I hope to follow Madame Chalamet on her future adventures and hopefully see the romance between her and the duke Archembeau blossom (or maybe I’m reading too far into their interactions).

This is a very intriguing Gaslamp fantasy story featuring Madam Chalamet who is a trained medium. I loved the setting and the characterisation. Elinor Chalamet isn’t one to be trifled with. This book has mystery, action and slow burn romance, a great combination. This is the first of six novellas, and I am keen to see where the story goes.

Ghost Talker is the first book in the Madame Chalamet Ghost Mysteries series by Byrd Nash. This is a superb Gaslamp fantasy with mystery, crime & investigation, ghosts, history, slow-burn romance, murder, paranormal elements, the supernatural, a dark and moody atmosphere, intrigue, adventure, humour, and much more.
I have loved everything I have read by this talented author, so it was never a question of whether I would read this book when it released. I love how Ms. Nash always seems to manage to bring us something different, fresh, new, and intriguing. This story is quite captivating as we join medium Elinor Chalamet as she uses her talents to help solve puzzling mysteries. This is a bit of an historical whodunnit which is cleverly woven into a Gaslight/Gaslamp fantasy period setting. It is fresh, and fun- with wonderful characters and a moody atmosphere which gives the whole story an extra element of interest.
This is the first book in this new series which looks to have six instalments- so I am excited to see what Elinor gets up to in the coming books.
Bring on Book #2- Delicious Death!
Happy Reading…

Thank you, Byrd Nash!

I went through many emotions reading this book. I laughed, cried, got frustrated, and even angry. This story follows Madame Elinor Chamalet and her plan to find her father’s murderer and finally gets justice. A certain Duke however has different plans for her and seems to keep getting in her way once she takes on the case of a murder in the canal and ends up in the deep end of the royal matters. Does she end up with the infuriating Duke or does she keeping? This book keeps you on your toes and reading to the very end to see what happens next. I found this book very well written, and paced fairly well. I cant wait to read the rest of the series!

Having read Byrd Nash in the past, I consider this a “trusted” author and I was looking forward to what this series would have in store for me. I am a believer in some paranormal things and was looking forward to reading this. The story did not disappoint at all. The main character was enjoyable and often times, humorous. I don’t often read historical books but I did enjoy the setting and atmosphere of this book as a whole. This is a quick read with the promise of 5 more installments. I look forward to reading more.

This book was by far a must read for me. I could not put this down. The story was full of intrigue, as well as the characters that really shaped how the story would go! A great read!

Personally loved Elinor. She was devoted in her search for the truth. She knew there would be danger in her quest, but she stayed persistent. The book was great! Ghosts, unanswered secrets, and a path that proved more to be found than what it seemed. I devoured this book! The characters were great, and some you loved, and others not so much! I cannot wait to read the continuation I very much enjoyed this book!

Great read full of intrigue and suspense. I highly recommend it. I think that everyone would enjoy this read. Especially around this time of year! For a spooky read that holds your interest, check out this must read!

Ghost Talker is the first book in this historical six-book series Madame Chalamet Ghost Mysteries. It is a Gaslamp ghostly fantasy tale. Byrd writes strong sassy female characters in her stories and this one is no different. The story is told in the first person POV. This slow burn mystery romance is a quick, and intriguing read with humour.

Medium Elinor Chalamet finds herself going up against a ghost in the Beyond whilst trying to catch a killer. However, a certain someone keeps getting in her way making things harder than they need to be in more than one way.

It will be interesting to see where Byrd takes the story.

Madame Chalamet is what is known as a Ghost Talker. When she is asked to speak to a dead body found in the river, she doesn’t hesitate especially since the Duke de Archambeau has taken an interest in this particular body.

Once at the morgue, Madame Chalamet calls upon the ghost and has time to ask it only three questions: who are you, describe the last hour of your life and who is the last person you saw?

Turns out Giles, the dead person, was an illicit relation to royalty. The Duke thinks that Madame has heard too much and takes her to stay at his home until some royal business is concluded. At the same time The Duke and Madame try to solve the mystery of the dead body and missing items.

There were some moments between the two that I got some minor will they/won’t they feelings. The main story of this particular novella concluded nicely but the author left room to continue in this world.

Personally, I had some difficulty following some of the lingo and titles which made it so I was not 100% immersed in the book like I would want to be.

This is a brilliant example of a fantasy book that would appeal to readers of all genres. The author has created a story that is clearly fantasy but it is done in a subtle and creative way. I loved the main character to the book. She was feisty and interesting in a way that makes you sit up and pay attention to her.
This is an author that I have become familiar with over the last couple of years and I am yet to find a book of hers that I don’t enjoy. She doesn’t’ seem afraid to try new things and to push the expectations of the reader. This was a brilliant book and a great start to a new series.

Now, I’m not one to usually enjoy mystery and intrigue style stories, but this one caught me with the first sentence:
“Dead bodies interrupted my dessert course.”
The one who uttered that sentence is the star of this book; a scintillating and headstrong woman by the name of Elinor. Her job as a Medium gets her in some interesting situations, and this time, she’s dealing with matters with the royalty.
I’m excited to continue reading these books, and see where Elinor Chalamet goes!

This is the first book in the series and with the name, I really was surprised by what I found out reading the book. First, I thought that the leading female being called Madame gave me a few different thoughts. Could she be a ballerina, she by all means in my mind had an authoritarian role and was elderly. This was not the case at all she isn’t even 30. She is working with police and talking with a ghost throughout the story. The author does give you a list of characters and pronunciations of everything, which I was grateful for. This is set in the 1900’s and the Madame is met with some people that don’t believe in what she does. However, she doesn’t let that bother her and she gets involved with this case. It takes so many twists and turns that I didn’t even know where the book was going to go. It was the first time in a long time that I was able to completely loose myself in a book. I completely enjoyed this book. It was well written and the characters had superior development. I am eagerly looking forward to the next book in the series.

This is a shorter story that packs a punch in the edge sitting suspense. A well written creative story that I read in one sitting. Spinning tales of subtle magic with unexpected twists, she packages satisfying stories that reads like no others. Byrd writes the book you need, not the one you expected.

Described by one reviewer as a “literary glass of bourbon after a long day,” and another: “When I get a Byrd story, I know I’m in good hands.”

Whether it is a Doppelgänger who was once a medieval knight now working in college administration, or an updated Red Riding Hood escaping a post-WWI wolf pack, her characters all feel real.

That Celtic goddess at the pet store? She’s someone you know. A medieval queen fleeing an abusive marriage? You experience her pain and triumph.

With a B.A. in journalism, she worked as a newspaper reporter, covering news, schools, and lifestyle for both weeklies and dailies. She was the first journalist to serve as director of The Forest Heritage Center in Beavers Bend State Park, Oklahoma.

Her hobbies include reading, nature hikes, and traveling when she has the money. She seldom has the money. Married to a man who reads all her books but with two adult children who never read them. Byrd has cats, which makes her a legit author.

Embers on the Wind by Lisa Williamson Rosenberg – Review by Colleen Noyes

Embers on the WindEmbers on the Wind by Lisa Williamson Rosenberg
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Embers on the Wind is a very complex, thought-provoking, novel. It spins back-and-forth over several generations and deals with some sensitive subject matter. It took a little while to get into this book, but about a quarter way through you can really start to put everything together.

The story has multiple characters that are both despicable and likable. You have to pay very close attention in order to keep track of everything that is going on, but you will find yourself understanding more and more as the book progresses.

We read this book as part of our book club and to get the feedback from different individuals and what their thoughts were enhanced my joy of this book even more. This author has a very unique writing style that takes a little getting used to but you can still enjoy everything about the story. At times it was hard to read parts of it and there may be some things that are a trigger for folks. I appreciated that at the end of this book the author already had book club type questions that brought about even more forethought and discussion. This is not a book that I typically read but was pleasantly surprised.
